American Idol does Part Two of the Beatles

The Top 11 on American Idol tonight did part two of the theme from last week. While it seemed predestined to be a boring redo of last week, the contestants for the most part tried to improve or change from last week.
This week's theme is not just the Lennon-McCartney songbook, but the Beatles. Ryan Seacrest asks Randy Jackson if the contestants learned lessons last week. Randy hopes they did as this is a vast songbook. Ryan asks Paula Abdul what she expects since last week some people took risks. Paula expects the same people to take risks. Ryan asked Simon how much is talent and how much is a popularity at this point. Simon Cowell says it's about 50-50 right now. He says that singing well will win him over.
After a clip of "How Awesome the Beatles were" we get our first performance by Amanda Overmyer. She says her most memorable moment so far was moving to the big stage and feeding off the energy of the crowd. She chooses "Back in the USSR" because it's upbeat. She says she'll put her southern rock kick to it. She seemed out of breath and pitchy, but doesn't she always? Randy had a couple of issues, calling it pitchy but it picked up by the middle. Paula said she was ahead of the beat and would love to hear a ballad from Amanda. Simon said it was predictable and a mess in parts. He says its the same thing week after week. She needs to do something new or she'll get boring (bow of "I'm not worthy" to Simon for jumping on the bandwagon so quickly!). Amanda says that ballads are boring. She says she only gets 90 seconds to show what people would see at her show. Simon says that she's jumping the gun because her tickets aren't on sale yet.
Kristy Lee Cook talked to Ryan about her photo book that she keeps with her to connect her to home. He shows pictures of her dog and her horse. Her memorable moments include being the last one standing too often in the results nights. She picked "You've Got to Hide Your Love Away." It was pitchy and horrible. Randy thought the arrangement was interesting but boring and safe. Paula said it's sometimes safer to stick to the melody. Simon said that she's not a good performer. He said she makes no impact except when she's terrible.
David Archuleta has had some memorable moments too. He loved singing "Imagine" but didn't really like forgetting his words last week. He tries to concentrate on the positive though. He picked "The Long and Winding Road." It was a great performance with Archie back in top form this week. Randy thought he brought the hottness back. He told Archie that this song is the kind he could have inserted some runs into. Paula said it was a wonderful performance of purity. She also liked that he rose above adversity. Simon said that while last week was a complete mess, this week was amazing. Archie made Simon's point in what he said to Kristy. Archie was a master class in how to sell a song and remember a performance.
After a plug for iPhone, Michael Johns is up next. He says his memorable moment was performing "Bohemian Rhapsody." He picked "A Day in the Life" for this week because it's one of his favorite Beatles songs. He thinks the Beatles were so free and the best band ever. He starts off pitchy and weird. His favorite moment has to be singing BR, because he's gone downhill from there. His performance picked up in the middle and at the end, but it's just so not living up to his potential. Randy said it wasn't one of his best and he isn't picking the right songs. Michael has that big old voice, but he hasn't found the right song to show that. Paula mentions that she thinks the earpiece might be throwing Michael off. Simon didn't think it made any difference because it was just a mess. Michael needs to start sorting himself out and just nail a song. Ryan talks to Michael and Paula about the earpiece thing. Michael says he isn't wearing one.
Brooke White talks to Ryan about her family. Ryan says she got to escape this week. Brooke went back home on Saturday and spent some time with her 5 week old niece. Her favorite moment was last week doing "Let it Be." She said it went so well and the moment was just bigger than her. She picked "Here Comes the Sun" for this week. Her performance is a stretch from what she usually does. It wasn't her usual folksy thing. She moved out of her comfort zone and did pretty good I thought. The judges thought otherwise. Randy said it was awkward and never gelled. Paula says you can't help but smile when listening to her and she has good low tones to her voice. Simon thought it was terrible, which earned a chorus of boos from the audience. Brooke tried to tell the audience it was okay that Simon didn't like it. She agreed with him. I hate that while Simon tells Amanda to move out of her comfort zone, they try to keep Brooke locked in hers and don't give her credit for trying to expand.
David Cook's memorable moment was also last week. He loved that rock concert feel and having the judges like it on top of it was was great. He picked "Day Tripper" this week. He said he found a version that Whitesnake had done before that he likes. His performance is great, playing guitar and even using a talk box for his guitar solo. Randy didn't know if it was the best, but another solid look. He says it's like another song at a David Cook concert. Paula says he's ready to sell records. She liked the talk box. Cookie points out that he learned how to use it yesterday. Simon didn't think it was as good as Cookie thought it was. He thought Cookie looked smug throughout. He thinks it was predictable and that he's lost the element of surprise. Ryan asked Cookie what he thought of Simon's advice, since Cookie thought Simon had been giving him good advice so far. Cookie gets extra points for a diplomatic, "as Simon said it's an opinion" and that he listens to everything the judges say and try to work on it.
Carly Smithson's most memorable moment was also last week getting the comparison to Kelly Clarkson. She picked "Blackbird" this week because she hasn't tried a soft ballad type of song yet. Pretty good performance, she's getting out of her comfort zone a bit. She started pitchy but really worked it out. Randy thought it was a very nice, very controlled performance. Paula says she has an amazing tone to her voice and the arrangement was beautiful. Simon thought the song was indulgent and didn't like the song. Carly explains that they've all been trying to break into the industry for a while and they get beaten down. Simon says now he feels they are all broken birds. Carly says they're not like that anymore.
Jason Castro's memorable moment was when he sang "Hallelujah" because even though he had a bad last note, no one seemed to care. He picked "Michelle" this week, because it's dynamic. It also has French it and he doesn't speak French. I thought it was an excellent performance, but then again I really love Jason too. He didn't play guitar, he moved around a bit. Randy thought it was a good choice but he wasn't sure if he got it. He didn't think Jason connected. Jason said it was just alright for him too. Paula says he has a charm about him, but he disconnects when he's away from his guitar. Simon is wondering if it was a good idea to do Beatles again. He says that because it is a TV show and not a radio show it was okay for Jason because his face sold that performance. Jason is charming and not obnoxious (and Simon knows obnoxious!) and that Jason has a doofiness that just works for him.
Syesha Mercado's family is here with her this week Ryan points out. Syesha's memorable moment was being in the Bottom 3 which inspired her to step up and choose "Yesterday" this week. She wants to touch everyone the way the song first touched her. I hated what she did with the song. You don't mess with perfection. Randy liked the changes and said it was a very good performance. Paula liked to see her change and be vulnerable, but she needs to work on connecting with her eyes. Simon said it was her best so far. He didn't think it was incredible, but she picked the best song and sold it well.
For his memorable moment, Chikezie picked the Hollywood round, when he was complimented by all three judges. He picked "I've Just Seen a Face." He starts out slow, but then plays the harmonica and picks up the speed. It was a decent performance overall. Randy thought it was some good and some bad. He didn't get the slow but the fast part was good. He thought it would be a good country song. Paula liked that Chikezie showed the depth and scope of his vocals. Simon thought it was okay in the beginning, but then the harmonica came in and it was attrocious. He thought it was gimmicky.
For Ramiele Malubay, the best thing was making new friends. Brooke takes care of her and Cookie is like an older brother. She picked "I Should Have Known Better" because she bored the judges last week. Her performance this week was back to her average karaoke, pitchy performance. Randy loved that she showed the confidence again, but the performance was just alright. Paula thought it was better than last week, but wants to hear that range in her voice that the ballads show. Simon thought it sounded terrible and amateurish. He thinks she picks mediocre songs that didn't show the best of her ability.
My Rankings:
Tied for number one are Jason and David Cook with a 10
Archie comes in close behind with a 9
Brooke earns an 8.5
Carly gets an 8
Chikezie earned a 6
Michael and Ramiele get a mediocre 5
Amanda gets a mere 4
Kristy scrapes the bottom at 2
Syesha gets a 1 for messing with a classic. She sang well, but the arrangement distracted me too much to earn her any other points.

i didn't like cook's performance and amanda overmayer's performance. it was just too predictable and boring. i don't understand how you can tie cook and castro as number one.

woah...I think your judgements of tonight are way off. jason can do SO much better than what he did tonight, I really didn't get his performance...and david cooks was not nearly as good as last week, but still good. and Syesha DEFINITLEY wasn't at the bottom tonight...i think she made a big comeback along with david, from his bad performance last week. I liked chikezie and amanda tonight. i didn't like michael johns' performance whatsoever. kristys was bland and just a waste of time, and brookes was mediocre, but she was just so sweet about the whole thing, its hard to hate on her. my rankings (not favorites, just tonights performances)...
1 David Arch
2 Syesha
3 David C
4 Chikezie
5 Jason
6 Amanda
7 Carly
8 Brooke
9 Ramiele
10 Michael
11 Kristy
and it was so difficult giving this from a non-biased point of view...Amanda is my favorite ever! Lover herr to deathhh! from my point of view, she was the best of the night, but thats just because i like her. apart from the fact that she is my favorite, i really did think she did do a good job tonight...the most entertaining of the night by a mile.

NOW LET ME GET THIS STRAIGHT: Michael Johns could NOT remember the words to his FAVORITE Beatles song, he could NOT remember the words to his deceased best friend's FAVORITE Beatles song, his performance was weak and a total mess, and he chopped to pieces the most incredible Lennon/McCartney song ever realeased...so why does this Loser remain on Idol?
Will someone please tell him that the train has reached Chicago and it is time to get off? Please?

Top 11 - Best to Worst
1. Carly Smithson - You see. Carly can contort her face just as much as Brook can. So there.
2. Brook White - Just like a veteren, but on a bad day.
3. Jason Castro - A little bit of fun can go a long bit of way.
4. Michael Johns - Quite enjoyable when he aint constipated.
5. David Archuleta - Okay, it's about time we discuss the excessive mid-verse lip-licking.
6. Amanda Overmyer- I'm not sure what week I saw this performance, but bouts of greatness makes you forget mediocrity, sometimes.
7. Chikezie Eze - Is this Chikezie Eze, Taylor Hicks, or Forest Whitaker?
8. Syesha Mercado - I like where SHE was going, but where was the pitch going?
9. David Cook - I admit his vocals were among the strongest, but uh ...
10. Kristy Lee Cook - So that was the chorus? That was your version of the chorus? But doesn't the chorus make the song? Doesn't that one note kinda make the song? What happened to my socks?
11. Ramiele Malubay - Didn't I just see her in the nutcracker last Christmas?

what a mess!
begrudgingly i am going to have to say that archie was at the top tonight. by default for the most part though he did ok.
i liked amanda. her voice is great. she free throws it around like she just don't give a dang. off pitch - yah - and so what?
kristy lee cook - without a push up bra? what for? looses all purpose for being there. what will the guys occupy their time with directly after the show? forget even commenting about the singing. what singing?
now wait...all is not lost. men unit in cheer. yes pulled out the 'big' guns just in time for your little friends. ammunition as it were cause hey a girls gotta do what a girls gotta do in order to get by on any given idol week. not only is she 'just' an actress but she is officially thrown out of the girls with respect club! a loose woman without a mission. feeding your kids - we forgive you. feeding your ego via the use of your titties? a sin.
cheesy. i actually am starting to really like this guy. he is adorable. not so much talent but adorable with positive energy will get you some place in this world.
bloody carly smithson can be summed up in two words - bitter much? looks like she has been ridden hard and put up wet. how the heck old is she anyway? dear carly: you are handed an opportunity of a life time - doin what you do in front of millions of people across the united states of america. suck it up grrlfriend - wipe off the i've been trampled on by the industry and start fresh. oh, that very same stab you in the back 'business' got you on the stage in the first place. quit your winning and make the best of it b+tch.
jason castro reminds me of being a teenager and making out with my 'guy' (who lasted well into my 30's) after a football game under the bleachers and over our clothes (he was still in uniform and to this day i just love me some padding) and giggling like a ... well - a school girl. the days when sexy and sweet went hand in hand. innocence was real and a kiss was going a 'long way'. love him. not a great week singing and i still think he has magic.
cookie was good. much better than simon went on about. he gets my number two/three spot and i am looking forward to seeing what he does next week.
most underrated and under recognized performance of the night? mikey. it gets my go back and watch it again call of the evening. it was good. no, it was better than good. back in the day (think inxs or live) he would be getting rave reviews. as far as i am concerned its a style issue. his style is 'old fashion'. his musicality - spot on and real.
brooke - oh how i wanted to like it. it was awful. a yellow pumpkin jumping on the stage and missing nearly every other note. i felt like i was at a high school talent contest. fingers crossed that she bounces back next week.
ramiele - i actually do not remember to comment about this girl's performances each week. zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz
seacrud - ala 'between the sheets' and fortune cookie readings we've added 'oh, eff off you obnoxious bast+rd' after each and every time crud says; and this is american idol. the things you see when you do not have a gun. can i get an amen?

How in the heck can these people screw up the Beatles songs so badly? I have to wonder what 25 songs were on this week's list. toad said:

Agreed, again. I'm tired of watching him do ballads and even slowing down what should have been an up-tempo number last week. Then again, I'm tired of most everyone on the show doing ballads except for Cookie and Amanda. toad said:

Me too. I can't figure out why I really like her, but I do. Love the fact that she tells them to screw the 3" heels and performs in flats. Yes, this is my kind of girl! toad said:

~laughing~ Yeah! What she said! She has a bullmastiff?!? You gotta be kidding me. My guess is that her boyfriend has a bullmastiff that she gets to show on national TV. toad said:

You've seen the light. I've liked him from Week 1. I didn't think that he was as good tonight as he was last week. toad said:

Gotta disagree here. Yes, she has been chewed up and spat out by the industry, but she's also taking the brunt of crap from Evil Website #1 this year.
"Blackbird" is one of my least favorite Beatles' songs, but I thought she did a respectable version. She gets a two/three spot from me. toad said:
not a great week singing and i still think he has magic.
Agreed. Paula Abdul also said "it sounded like a polka in parts". I complete agree with her. Listen to the French sections, its like he learned the words in cadence and that was the only way he could perform them. toad said:
cookie was good. much better than simon went on about. he gets my number two/three spot and i am looking forward to seeing what he does next week.
I agree. I don't think that the voice box added anything to his performance. I think that Simon is on drugs stating that David is ceasing to surprise us. toad said:

I love Live and totally detest Michael. I also thought that his performance sheerly and utterly sucked, from a crappy arrangement to forgetting lyrics and beyond. toad said:
brooke - it was awful. a yellow pumpkin jumping on the stage and missing nearly every other note. i
I'd describe her dress as a yellow daffodil flopping in the wind. Her performance was hideous. It exposed her as having very limited vocal skills. She literally put me to sleep. zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz I fell asleep watching her performance and woke up when Cookie started "Day Tripper".
ramiele - karaoke, no more, no less
Best - Archie, Carly, Cookie, Amanda
Worst - Kristy, Brooke, Michael, and I hope Kristy is going home

Amanda - I like the bluesy rock thing, but I don't like her bluesy rock thing.
Kristy - I don't understand. She seems very likable and sweet, but her performances come across as wooden as Carrie Underwood's AI performances, without hitting the pitch.
David A - This was a good performance, but I'm getting a bit bored with all the somber emotional songs. Yes, it's what he's good at, but I can't see an album full of this kind of stuff doing very well.
Michael - It was a perfect song choice for him, if he hadn't had to cut it down to 90 seconds. The arrangement was cruddy.
Brooke - I really like Brooke, but this wasn't a great song choice for her. I think she has the ability to show more vocally, but it seems maybe she lacks the confidence to do it. My comment to my wife was that she should have sang "Yesterday."
David C - I thought it was terrific. By himself, he is showing that AI made a good move by allowing the artists to play instruments. However, I would like to see him change it up a bit.
Carly - I liked it. I'm not sure I like her as an artist, though
Jason - Bored, and I agree with Simon 100%.
Sayesha - The spots where she stayed on the original melody were very pretty, but I think as a whole the performance was uneven and she was too focused on showing off her voice in a controlled way to truly connect with the song.
Chikezie - I like this guy more each week. He's got bucketloads of personality, and he's actually more talented than some people give him credit for.
Ramiele - Vocally okay, but her stage presence was all karaoke.
Best - David C
Worst - Kristy or Michael

I don't normally disagree with you Curlio, but I have Sayesha in my top two of a very boring night. I Hated Brooke's performance, and Ramiele is not experienced to know how to project a song or connect with an audience.
Jason was not that good; he did not emote, and he should have done a better job with a great song choice.
While Michael Johns is yet to impress me, Chikezie continues to do so.
Top two: David Archuleta and Sayesha. Bottom three: Kristy, Ramiele and Michael Johns, with Kristy going home.

My thoughts
Amanda - stuck with what she knows and did well. She is a solid performer and has broken that non-smiling funk she was in a few weeks ago. I still like her a lot.
Kristy Lee - that arrangement did not help her for one second. The song was awkward, she was dull, and should go home because of it.
Archie - He has a Josh Groban vibe about him. No, he does not sound remotely like him, but it seems they have the same personality as well as share the same audience. Tonight, he did very well.
Michael - Back in the day, my best friend's favorite song was Eiffel 65's Blue (Da Ba Dee). If he had died and I was on AI, I would have never sang that sang because it is the kiss of death. Epic songs like "Day in the Life" is just as much of a kiss of death. Bottom three.
Brooke - I'm a fan of hers. Not a fan of the performance last night. Wrong song choice and she lives and dies on song choices.
Cookie - I cringed when I saw the voice box and am glad that he didn't go all Peter Frampton on it. Nevertheless, it was another solid performance. I still am not a fan, but think he'll do very well once this season is over.
Carly - she was boring this week. And, she was trying to emote with her eyes which made her look a little creepy. Her "Woe is me" crap that she laid to Simon turned me off even more.
Jason - Oh My LORD! That was cheesy and juvenile to the nth degree. Wrong song choice. Very weak vocals. Uncomfortable stage presence. Worst of the night.
Sayesha - "Yesterday" is a classic. It is also very flat melodically. I think Simon said last week why it has been covered so much - because it is very easy to sing. If she had stayed on the original melody, the song would have been boring. So, she tried to bring elements to the song to spice it up. I thought it was good until Simon said that she was doing another person's version of the song (Eva Cassidy). That turned me off altogether. People like Sayesha and Cookie and Kristy Lee and Archie last week need to stop doing other people's covers because most of the time, it never works and/or can be called out for being unoriginal frauds (Ring of Fire).
Chikezie - speaking of being original, Chikezie tried to make this song his own. I thought he did OK, but should have stuck with the straight performance this week, lest he be compared to last week's performance. Regardless, I really like Chikezie because he does take risks and does do original arrangements. He'll live or die by these arrangements from this point on methinks.
Ramiele - Terrible! All pre-1965 Beatle tunes should have been banned from the competition because (with few exceptions) they were mainly fluffy, repetitious pop tunes with zero depth to them. Ramiele accentuated that song to the fullest and she looked like an amateur. If she didn't have such a strong fan base, I would think she would go home this week.

At least Cookie gave credit where credit was due this week. I'm willing to give all the benefit of the doubt (including Chris Daughtry in retrospect). We don't know WHAT they say in the full version of their backstage clips. Perhaps even Daughtry gave credit where credit was due for ROF, but the producers didn't think it was necessary to air. We all know how they love controversy. I hate to let my inner conspiracy theorist out, but I don't trust those little *s.

jason castro reminds me of being a teenager and making out with my 'guy' (who lasted well into my 30's) after a football game under the bleachers and over our clothes (he was still in uniform and to this day i just love me some padding) and giggling like a ... well - a school girl. the days when sexy and sweet went hand in hand. innocence was real and a kiss was going a 'long way'. love him. not a great week singing and i still think he has magic.
Willy " for you and Beanstalker, "Got Batteries"?
cookie was good. much better than simon went on about. he gets my number two/three spot and i am looking forward to seeing what he does next week.
Willy "his mission is accomplished, he could care less if he wins Idol or not, he just wanted this air time, he will be probably better that Daughtery."
most underrated and under recognized performance of the night? mikey. it gets my go back and watch it again call of the evening. it was good. no, it was better than good. back in the day (think inxs or live) he would be getting rave reviews. as far as i am concerned its a style issue. his style is 'old fashion'. his musicality - spot on and real.
Willy, " Very hard to remember the words to Acid stuff like this, it's like Dylan's "motorcycleblackmadonnatwowheelgypsyqueen and her silverstuddedstallion made the greyflanneldwarf scream......the gates of Eden..."
brooke - oh how i wanted to like it. it was awful. a yellow pumpkin jumping on the stage and missing nearly every other note. i felt like i was at a high school talent contest. fingers crossed that she bounces back next week.
Willy " Great girl, bad arrangement, last night is an example of the wonderful (Not) work the "19 Group" will do with you talents if you sign. Be yourself, you are what we like, not the silly puff, don't be sold by pretentious fools."
ramiele - i actually do not remember to comment about this girl's performances each week. zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz
Willy" ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ, wanna spoon ZZZZZZ!
seacrud - ala 'between the sheets' and fortune cookie readings we've added 'oh, eff off you obnoxious bast+rd' after each and every time crud says; and this is american idol. the things you see when you do not have a gun. can i get an amen?
Willy, " Well with Miss Sly, I really didn't think that song could be made to sound so soulesss. Good voice and really bad advice from the idol helpers, they seem to scrimp in every way on that show."
-- toad-licious

" I would say that sometimes it is much better to free your titties, remove all the restrictions that prohibit the full expression of their perk-i-tude, and firmly yet some how bouncily let them express what God has deemed precious, Can I have an Amen??????. Thank God for Pledge multi-purpose wipes. I spewed Dr. Pepper all over the monitor. I think we might finally need a new keyboard after this incident. [bWill-da-beast growled:[/b]
" for you and Beanstalker, "Got Batteries"? A woman is never without a ready supply of the appropriately sized batteries. One should never rely on anyone else for such things (especially a man!)
Oh, and hugefan, you're welcome to disagree with me. I concede that Syesha sang very well last night. I just ADORE "Yesterday" and have yet to hear anyone else's arrangement of the song that I like.

[...]At least Cookie gave credit where credit was due this week.
I understand that. My point is, stop listening to other people's covers of originals and do your own thing with the song. Don't be a parroting sheep. It doesn't work.

I usually don't post, but I enjoy reading from this site every Tuesday and Wednesday. I just wanted to vent a tad and say that as good as Archuleta is, and don't get me wrong he is good, but if anyone else had sung the song he did the judges would have pulled out the 'boring' card. Remiele is technically just as good a singer, yet she does not engage. Methinks they may be pushing just a tad. Masterclass? The other David is much more Dynamic.

Btw: My guess for the bottom 3 are Kristy, Syesha , Amanda. with either Syesha or Amanda leaving.
Note that this my prediction, not my opinion of the show; some quick notes about the show though:
Carly; Awful outfit.
Archie: Great for a cartoon, definately would be easy to do as you can use a square for the mouth all the time.
Amanda's ;"I Won't change or try anything else" comment will backfire and only enforces the "one-trick pony"-comments.
Cookie; It still bothers me, a left handed guitar player.. just.. weird.
All in all; Beatles two weeks in a row was a bad idea. There was absolutely no surprises of any of the contestants.
However it will be even worse if they make next week a rolling stone or "The Monkeys" -week.

Early in the season I really thought the girls were the most talented but it's turning out the depth of talent is in the guys.
Bottom Three this week:
Kristie Lee---she's just plain terrible and should have never made it into the Top 12
Ramiele - a karoke singer at best who is outmatched unless she can find the songs that bring out her best
Sayesha--has a good voice but doesn't seem to have the fan base to keep her around much longer
Going home: Kristie Lee

OK, Where to start. From best to worst.
Carly: Lousy outfit, best performance of the night.
Archie: I grudgingly give him the second spot. Technically he is a good singer, but his voice has a quality I do not like. It sounds muffled or hollow, somehow. And all his emoting is nothing but mugging. On top of that, "tLaWR" is probably my least favorite Beatles song. He should have done "Hey Jude".
Cookie: Again I only place him this high grudgingly. His performance was fine, but covering a Whitesnake cover of a perfectly good jangle-pop rocker just screams "Poser" to me.
Michael Johns: Actually one of his better performances, but it is a tough song to do justice to and he did not quite succeed.
Chekezie: Hated the harmonica; thought the first half veered dangerously close to his lounge lizard persona; could have done without the steel guitar (why do they have to raise a big flag announcing "This is a country arrangement" every time?); absolutely LOVED the vocal in the second half.
Castro: Again personality trumps vocals here. A so-so vocal, a nice playful performance. I want him to surprise me again. I don't know if he can.
Brooke: Wow, that just looked uncomfortable: "Doot N Do Doo."
Syesha: One of her better performances, but ask me if I care anymore. And no, I don't think Brooke should have sung "Yesterday" either.
Ramiele: Every choice she makes is just old fashioned, pageanty, karioke and boring. (Did I get all the cliches in?) She takes a nice upbeat pop song and sings it like a Bond Theme -- but boring.
Amanda: Unfortunately she still can't break out of the "one trick pony" zone.
Kristy: I actually liked her voice on the verses, but when she got to the chorus it just fell apart. You can't do variations on the melody until you have established the melody and she just threw it out from the start. I had two questions when I was listening to her: 1) Has she ever heard the original? and 2) Does she have any idea what she is singing about?
Apropos of nothing I note that only Brooke picked a non L-M song even though they opened up the theme to "The Beatles".
I think Amanda's time is up.

Amanda...sorry but can this girl sing? You can't tell by this mumbled crap she's doing? Don't get it? Elvis wanna be
Kristy....the wild eyes make me cringe...I have a hard time hearing them say "well I never heard the song before" well honey listen to some real music someday and you'll see what people want to hear.
David Archie...oh my god...I can't look at this Opie clone/ with the Goober smile...sorry he just turns my stomach
Michael Johns... I still like him....just not this version of the song too condensed
Brooke...sorry boys I know you love the eye candy....but she's not my style...she sings ok....it's just too Joni Mitchell for me.
David Cook....yes, he's my favorite...the song was ok...he's the only one I'd put on my Ipod out of the whole group, well, Michael Johns singing Bohemian Rhapsody.
Carly ... she was ok...I didn't like the audience screams at the inappropriate times?? What was that? Every time she held a note they would scream...it really made the song unbearable for me.
Jason...is this guy John Travolta from Welcome back Kotter? Cut his hair and give him a wig ....there ya go...Barbarino!!!
Syesha...I really didn't like it...but he low cut gown was not there for me...maybe Will?
Chickezie...just a wrong song choice??
Ramiele...didn't get his one either...
I'm sure glad I taped this so I could speed through...but there wasn't much to show for the top eleven. At least not in my book....they can all go except my two favorites David Cook and Michael Johns
