American Idol sends home another curlio
 2008-03-26 22:04:24
Television American Idol lowered their number to nine tonight with a result that was both shocking and expected at the same time.

Ryan Seacrest first announced that they received over 30 million votes for last nights performances. After an intro of the judges and a pimping of the songwriting contest, we were treated to the Top 10 group performance. It was okay but nothing spectacular. They sang "Right Back Where We Started."

Then we get a backstage look at the whole iTunes thing. The idols record full length versions of the songs they perform. They all talked about the recording experience. They then recapped the show from last night.

Getting to the meat of the show, Chikezie was placed in the bottom three, which he knew as he was pointing to the silver stools before Ryan announced that he needed to go to the silver stools. Brooke White was safe as was Carly Smithson, who was apparently surprised by the "news" that she is pregnant. She isn't pregnant by the way.

The Ford commercial was cool tonight. They sang "I Want You to Want Me" on t-shirts, posters, and CD Cases. I loved it. David Archuleta was safe, he said he had fun and maybe got carried away a bit so that might be why Simon Cowell thought it was a theme park performance. David Cook was also safe. Ryan talked to Chris Cornell, who loved Cookie's version of Chris' version of Michael Jackson's "Billie Jean." Syesha Mercado was in the bottom three, leaving Michael Johns safe on the couch.

As we head back from commercial for question time, we get a shot of Constantine Maroulis. Sarah asks Chikezie if he's single, yes he is. Nicole wants to know how Archie picked the song last night. Archie says it's one of his all time favorites and he loves the words and music. He adds that he did pick the song himself. Ari wanted to know how she can take Ryan's job. Simon said it doesn't take a lot of talent, so there's a chance for everyone. Caitlin asked Brooke who she would do a duet with. Brooke's answer was John Mayer. Last, Vanessa wanted to know if Simon thinks he's the best looking on the show and why. Simon says it's not what he says but what other people say.

Then Kimberley Locke returned to Idol. She talked about her experience in Season 2. She's also opened a restaurant outside Manhattan now and lost 40 pounds. She sang "Fall." It was an okay song, but nothing really spectacular. Ryan teased that they would go to the judges now. Kimberley said they had to skip Simon.

There was another pimping of Idol Gives Back and all the good they did with the money from last year. They did new programs for students, to feed people, giving kids books and all the other wonderful things the money has done.

Then we were finally back to more results. Ramiele Malubay was safe, leaving me with a heart attack as either Jason Castro or Kristy Lee Cook would be headed for the Bottom 3. Kristy was safe, compounding my heart attack. Paula Abdul said that someone has to go at this stage. Jason said he expected something because he hadn't been out this late before. He was prepared for it. Ryan quickly ended my heart attack though, sending Jason back to the couch with my promise to vote for two hours next week.

That leaves either Chikezie or Syesha leaving. Simon says that Chikezie's biggest hurdle is that there are better performers. He and Jason picked the wrong songs. Paula says that's not true of Syesha. Randy Jackson says the public doesn't get it because she was brilliant last night. No, the judges don't get it because the public just does NOT care about Syesha. She's doesn't win the "worst performance" poll, she doesn't win the "who will be the next Idol" poll. She just doesn't connect. But she has another week to try to learn how to connect, as she stays while Chikezie is headed home.

Next week we get the country theme, which will probably send either Kristy or Syesha home. I just hope that Jason has been given a rude awakening now and will get his behind on track again.

What is up with you people? Chikezie was amazing tonight even after being told he was heading for home.

Kristy Lee Cook should have been kicked off weeks ago.
Come on guys, quit voting with your d1ck.

Oh well lets see how you do at the polls!

I vow to be joining Curlio with the voting next week. Jason is just too cool. He might not win it, but he has to stay in it a while!

I hated to see Chikeze go. For one thing I have just learned how to spell his name. I listened to him tonight and he does have a Luther Vandross smoothness. I just don't think he fits the sterotype for black male performers right now. And his crazy performance a few weeks ago will probably go down as my favorite this year.

You know, as much as I hate to agree with Paula, there are really no "bad" singers this year. No Chicken Littles or Scott Savols. There are just those who connect, and those who have different and unusual styles.

I can't wait until next week. I love Dolly Parton. Not crazy about country music, but love Dolly. I wish they would do her songs only. That would be such a stitch! I don't think Simon will be able to handle Dolly if she comes on the show!

first things first: jeez will pay attention man. i said..'on the odd occasion you do actually have interesting things to say'. that means that once in a while you do have interesting things to say. read it first silly willy - then read it again. ohhh

lets hope that this week shook the sheebzies out of jason and he applies himself. perhaps he has not been at it long enough to be hungry enough. maybe he has had just enough of it to really start to want it. this next week will tell the tale.

Jason was in the bottom 3 but Kristy wasn't? Sure her performance had improved from hillbilliaty to borderline ok but does she really have the range or personality to win? Sorry guys, but that woud be a no.

And for the record, I thought Syesha did pretty well last night. Not enough to make me a fan, but enough for me to remember her.

If they are doing country next week, I'm guessing Kristy might be safe again, because it IS her cateorgory. Yet another week watching her lacklusterarity and hoping she'll be sent home only to be disappointed. Its like a weekly ritual.

I'd love to see Cookie, Ramiele, or Jason doing a country song. Knowing some people, they'll probably pick ballads. Country ballads are okayish, but I just cant stand upbeat country music. Which is probably what Kristy will do. Yippee. She's not so bad on mute though.

Does anyone else think Jason kind of looks like John Travolta with his dreads back? The resemblance is eerie.

Yes, Jason does kind of look like John Travolta, and he also looks like Dr. Lisa Cuddy on "House".

And I'm so mad he was in the bottom 3!

I think it's right decision that america sent jakuzie home
hpwever i am surprise that syesha is in the bottom 2 however we will see her next week.

I am glad that kristy lee is not in the bottom 3 because her performance is best that she performed.

I have to say that i am a filipino and i am leaving in the philippines so i am supporting ramielle to be the next american idol.

There is an upcoming local version here in the philippines called pinoy idol these upcoming april
they just finished there 8 city audition tour.

As for the final note i am not surprise that jason is in the bottom 3 because he did a bad performance.

Must this crap keep coming up?!?

This is a SINGING COMPETITION.

Ramiele is a LONG WAY from the best singer. She has a decent voice (at least she is better than Jasmine Trias), but no originality or charisma while performing.

I shook my head at how glaringly stupid Indian Idol's unadulterated regionalism was this past season. But, it does strike at home as well. It has shown up on American Idol every time that a Filipino has made it into the Top 24.

Then again, it also shows up anytime that a contestant uses their "assets" to secure votes based on anything that is seen and not heard.

Peter Noone put it best - this is a voting competition, not a singing competition. I keep hoping he's wrong.

I think Dusty has been voting for Cookie. I'll have him check who voted for Kristy though, because I too want to know which member has such horrid taste and therefor whose opinion to start ignoring. Ditto for Ramiele

I switched my votes to Cookie, because Jason, while adorable and whose CD I will buy (making it the first AI CD I'll buy - really) and whose concerts I will go to, didn't earn my vote this week. Besides I'm convinced that AI sees their mistakes with Daughtry and they don't want a repeat. Yes, in retrospect I think Daughtry should have won. At least he wouldn't be a disgrace like Taylor Hicks.

Cookie- It proves how uninformed the judges are when Paula (I think) said that he was so original in his arrangements. From what I've heard, Cookie plays other band's versions of songs every week. Take 'Eleanor'. He ripped that one off Doxology. So at least props were given this week. But still. It was pretty good.
The producers want him to win, so I'm looking for Ryan to make sure that props are given more often. They remember how bad it hurt Chris that he "stole" and didn't give credit where credit was due. They don't want that to happen this time. But honestly I don't think it's bad to use someone else's arrangement instead of your own. Not everyone has that talent with music - at least not the ability to do it in such a short time frame. Most of the people who watch AI probably went "Chris Who?" - including the emo kids who make up Cookie's fan base. And lets face it, emo kids wouldn't know great musicians like Chris Cornell if Chris parked his adorable *in front of them (have I mentioned I like tall, dark and handsome in a man?). Not that I don't think Cookie isn't great as well. I just think that he's greater than the whole emo genre that he seems destined to be stuck in.

We knew it would happen as soon as they put her in the Top 24. My prediction is Top 3 for Ramiele based on the biased voting pool. Apparently a good sized block of Filipinos are unable to think about anything other than race. Ah well, she won't win anyhow, the producers will never allow another dud to win. They'd be forced to admit their failures then. We haven't had a decent winner since Carrie. They need to change that this year or face even more calls of "irrelevant" from the critics.

I was sorry to see Chikeze go, I didn't think he deserved it this week. It should have been Kristy or Ramiele. But after listening to Kristy sing such a patriotic song, I knew she would still be kept on for another show. She's very pretty, but she cannot sing well enough to be even this far into the competition. As for Ramiele, she's got a decent voice, but her rendition of "Alone" was atrocious. Sorry!

Here is what bugs me about this show. Simon is the puppet master for America. Whatever he says, America listens and votes appropriately like the sheep they are. Last week, he called Amanda a one-trick pony when there are obviously more than one of those in the competition. What happens? She gets voted off. This week, he tells Chikezie that he is not "original" when it seems that Chikezie has been the only person who has done anything original all season long. So, America puts their heads up their a**es and say "I guess he is right," and votes him off, allowing non-talented contestants like Kristy Lee and Ramiele to stay. Chikezie was one of my favorites and I was ticked off last night since, as Shenova pointed out, this is a voting contest. For those who are in love with Castro or Brooke or whoever, you'll soon feel the same pain I felt when they get voted off prematurely and Ramiele stays yet another week.

Speaking of "unoriginal", I learned that none of the "original" arrangements that Cookie has done as been original. His cover of "Hello" was originally done by Incubus for example. This guy is a grade-A phony. I assume that Cookie will "scour iTunes" until he finds a rock ballad that was once a country song and then rip that off. I hope he does Live's version of "I Walk the Line" just to expose how much of a phony he is. Simon is obviously pimping him this year by saying that he is original and other BS. I guess AI saw how many records Chris Daughtry has been selling and want to get in on the action.

Waiting for the real show to start...

I don't completely agree. Two names that were the bane of Simon - Sanjaya and Scott Savol. In both cases, Simon was saying that they would be the one leaving for weeks before they went.

I do see your point about David Cook and my first impression of him wasn't good, either. To be honest, I would have probably ignored him last season. But in this season of niche singers where there is no strong "all-arounder", he strikes me as more talented than most of the other one-trick ponies. Yes, his versions are not original but at least he has enough breadth to know many artists in depth and can draw from his knowledge.

By the way, he graduated from Central Missouri State University in Music. This is actually one of the stronger music programs in the state. CMSU's mascot is the mule and you can make all the cracks that you would like about this...

Your honor, ladies and gentlemen of the jury, my dear O-ponent here, says that skinny girl/man with the brain and personality of a cigarette butt is worthy of adulation and respect for his singing ability, can't you say, a HO HO HO, with me, come on, HO HO HO, women, evidently from the stress of childbirth and running the whole darnation, have lost the ability to reason, and therefor I beg for your quick resolution to this matter, 20 years for the Frogwoman! Oh, yeah, wrong case your honor, and they can't make decisions without their What Whats and yep isn't that pretty boy John T a Flying Girlyman? Your honor, the defense rest. I have to defend Ramiele at least to some degree here. She's more than just Filipino. She's also very pretty, and probably the most like-able contestant. 14 year old boys get a vote too.

And if we're still on the Filipino thing. What about southerners voting for Kristi? What about Australians voting for Micheal? What about rockers voting for David Cook? Women voting for Jason Castro? What about white people voting for Brooke? Black people voting for Syesha? The Irish voting for Carly? And like ben1974 said, what about "Simon says" voters voting what Simon says?

As far as talent goes, her biggest problem isn't necessarily talent; it's nerves. And her biggest mistake is she should be singing blues, soul, and R&B. That's what her voice is.

I agree 100% with ben1974. Remember that childhood game called Simon Says? I swear, it applies to this show because what Simon says is what goes! Many people say that Chikezie was not very good most of the time when David A. (the chosen one?) is starting to stink more and more each week! Next week is country week and Chikezie would've shined with this genre.

Just because you are filipino and living in the philippines doesn't mean Ramielle is good enough to be the next American Idol. Ramielle is a good singer but not the best one.
I'm sorry Chikeze left too soon. And Ramielle should have been in the bottom 3, along with Kristy and Syesha.
My favorites are David Cook, David Archuleta, Jason, Brooke, and Carly.

I think the biggest joke of the season is fat, disgusting Randy Jackson lecturing America on eating right & exercise. The only exercise that guy gets is running back and forth to the food bar at "Ole Country Buffet". What's next, Paula doing a "Just Say No" spot?

So sorry to see Chikeze go, but AI didn't want another R&B dominated season. (remember last year?) I don't think he would have won, but at least he brought personality, charm and some attitude. Sorry I can't say the same about Ramiele.

First Carly and now Jason in the bottom three! Do you really believe that with all those teenagers voting for Jason? Just another layer to the controversy. And why did Ryan let him stay in the botom three for all of five seconds?
