American Idol kicks off a girl curlio
 2008-04-16 22:18:55
Television Tonight, American Idol booted off one of the female contestants. It was pretty much a given that it would be a girl leaving us this week, but surprises like Michael Johns do happen.

Ryan Seacrest tells us that they had a whopping 36 million votes. Then we go quickly to the Top 7 group performance of "One Sweet Day," the Mariah Carey song that she performed with Boyz II Men. It was a very good performance. After the break, Ryan pimps the songwriting contest and the tour before heading to a recap of yesterday.

Ryan then gets to the meat of the show, bringing out Jason Castro first for his results. Jason is told he is in the left group. David Cook comes out next to find out that he is in another group. He is given another opportunity to explain his emotional state and he manages to avoid a real answer. I respect his wish for privacy. Carly Smithson comes out and has a talk with Simon Cowell about how he expects more because from her because she can do more. Carly joins Jason's group. Kristy Lee Cook comes out and insults Simon, calling him a butt. Kristy joins Cookie's group.

The Ford commercial features the Top 7 singing "I Want To Break Free" while being puppets on a string. Jason then comes and cuts everyone loose after seeing a Ford outside. Elliot Yamin comes back to the show to sing "Free." His makeover has really done wonders for him. He still looks like an Amish man, though. Ryan brings up that Elliot's mother recently died. Elliot says that this is the first time he's taken the stage without her.

More results with Syesha Mercado getting to join Jason and Carly (who I think are the bottom group). Brooke White comes out to join David Cook and Kristy. Logically if we follow our usual pattern that should mean that David Archuleta is safe and gets to pick the group he thinks is the top. But at the point of typing this I'm not sure. Ryan has been trying to change up his usual predictability.

When we come back from the break it's time for the questions. Joan asks Kristy about her horse and if she bought him back. No, she couldn't get the guy who bought her horse to sell the horse back to her. I think he should keep it. Editor's note - serves her right. You don't screw with some things in life.

Jillian asks the judges what was the first record they bought Randy Jackson bought Led Zepplin, the Beatles and James Brown. Paula Abdul bought the Jackson 5, Earth Wind and Fire and Carole King. Simon says he bought Paula's "Straight Up" when he was 10. Paula is then is asked what song of hers describes her relationship with Simon. Randy jokes that it's "Cold Hearted Snake" which Paula says is too obvious. Simon says it's "Straight Up." By the way, Megan, who asked Paula the song question, gives us a perfect example of why the live Q&A session is a BAD IDEA.

Denise asks Simon what the difference is between all of the various metaphors that he uses to describe the performance of the contestants. He says that they are all horrible and not something you want. Mallory asks Cookie if he's single. Cookie asks which camera to look into, then gives and emphatic yes.
Mariah performs her song "Bye Bye." After she talks to Ryan about Randy and how he takes credit for her success. She agrees that it is all Randy.

Back for results with our two groups. David Archuleta comes out to find out if he's joining the left group (Jason, Carly and Syesha) or the right group (Cookie, Kristy, and Brooke). Archie is safe, as expected. Ryan tells Syesha and Cookie to switch. Ryan tells him to join the group that he thinks is safe. He takes the route of the past contestants and sits in the middle. Ryan moves over towards Cookie, Jason and Carly and tells him that to move towards the safe group he would have to come that way. Ryan then says if the safe group wanted to get closer, they would have to come that way. Cookie comes and sits next to Archie. Jason then sits down. Carly is in a dress and can't sit down. Ryan gets them to all stand up and go over to safety. That means the Bottom Three are Kristy, Brooke and Syesha.

After the break Ryan points out that the three girls are roommates. Syesha is sent back to safety first. Randy says it's tough every week now. Paula thinks that everyone is very talented and that it's tough that someone has to go. Simon says there are no surprises, maybe Kristy's time is up finally. Brooke stays, while Kristy Lee Cook goes home. Brooke is very emotional as is Kristy.

Dusty pointed out to me that EW#1 AND EW#2 are both outed this week. One had her "safe" while the other deemed her the worst and worthy of their votes to save her. I'm happy at the prospect of no Kristy, and the loss to the EW's.

I am so sad.

I was unprepared because she was with Cookie and therefore I spent most of the show thinking she was safe. Boo Ryan.

I picked Kristy to win after the first audition show, back in January. I realized at the top 24 that she had no chance, so I was hoping she'd at least make the tour, which she did of course. If Kellie Pickler can get a deal and seemingly have a career, hopefully Kristy can too.

At least she got to call Simon a butt before she left.

Ditto.

The best part is that we are going to be spared hearing Kristy butcher any Andrew Lloyd Weber songs. That's a small consolation...I will be shocked if next week is anything short of horrid with this group of singers...

I would have been jumping out of my skin if last year's contestants did ALW songs...Melinda, LaKisha, and Jordin all had the range to sing his challenging musical numbers. This year, NO.

Umm, yes and no. EW#2 has had a really bad record all season this year and this week was no exception.

EW#1 was supporting Kristy, but they flatly stated: "We support you because you're the worst, but we still don't like you." Their darling for this year was/is Amanda Obermeyer. They've put more effort into promoting her post-Idol activities than anything else.

Amanda has scored some impressive post-Idol bookings - she's going to sing the National Anthem at the X-games (God help anyone who hears her!) and, in May, she's headlining the "Women of Rock" tour at the world-famous Whiskey in Los Angeles.

I'm happy with the remaining 6.

It's good there were all girls in the bottom 3.

1- David C and David A
2- Jason, Carly and Brooke
3- Syesha

I would like David Cooke or Carly to win the show. My prediction for the next to leave is Brooke or Sayesha.

I actually liked Kristy's performance last night...but I didn't want Brooke to leave so I was fine with it. I'm still waiting for Carly to knock one out of the park...but unfortunately I think her voice isn't standing up well with the grueling schedule. I remember her sounding a lot better at the higher registry...now she sounds like she's really forcing it.

I'm fine with Kristy Lee leaving. I think that she does win the "Most Improved" award since she has been sounding much better in the past few weeks. She's as good as Pickler and better looking, so a career in country would not be out of the question.

Other quick thoughts:

Cookie looked silly singing runs in "One Sweet Day" with Syesha.

Mariah's wardrobe people must be commended for the excellent choice of dress. Holy assets Batman!

Elliot did a great job last night. I'm glad that he is enjoying the success that has been given to him - he truly deserves it. Do you think Daughtry and Elliot would have been in the same boat that they are in now if they were the Final Two that season instead of Taylor and Kat?

Ladies, it's true that stomping a corpse is cathartic for the damaged 16 year old hidding in your psyche, but I have heard that if you cut off their heads and maybe gouge out the eyes, you are almost completely healed. Then perhaps you could stick the trophy on a big stick, as a warning, so other attractive girls would never consider such pursuits, less they bring out remembrances of your painful childhood suffering. Love my Curlio ladies, but sometimes, it's harder. LOL Willy

Dusty we'll have a prayer service to pray, not for rain but, for the opportunity to see Kristy Lee in that sexy white top again, and maybe even see her in person. A guy can dream!

Mr. Bean agrees with you about Mariah, Ben. Why do men like women to dress trashy? She would have looked much sexier with the hem of that dress to her knees. EVERYONE knows if drop the neckline, drop the hem line. Much more sexy.

Anyway, did anyone else think that Kristy was sort of bitchy toward Simon and the judges last night right before Ryan announced that she was going home? It was after she called him a butt, which I found funny. She was sort of mouthy with judges right before she was booted and I wasn't sure what she was saying, but she came across very immature.

If you can't be a good example, then be a horrible warning!

Did you see the Pickle at the CMT Awards? She's been made-over and she looked very much like Carrie Underwood now. I didn't recognize her. I'd guess that the same person who did the makeover for Carrie also did Kellie...the hair was exactly the same, same coloring, dress style, etc.

~snicker~ I knew the boys 'round here would stand up and take notice of that dress. So much for wondering if she'd had a breast reduction...no, she was just properly clothed (for a change) on "Idol Gives Back".

I might be the only one saying this, but David Archeletta should go. Admittedly, I am not in his target audience (I am not a 13 year old girl), but hearing the same thing every week is getting REALLY old. He does one thing well—sing ballads—but I am not ever going to buy any of his music.

Yes. Please don't stalk me!

I agree with your comments on Archie. He has made me bored and I am not a fan anymore. I'm honestly not rooting for anyone at this point.

Me either, which is a big change from the past couple of years. I'm just really not connected to any of the contestants this year - good or bad.

I'm glad Kristy is gone, but I really didn't loathe her the way that I did the Pickle.

Really, the only reason I'm watching is to see what sort of arrangements that David Cook has found or created, but I'm not particularly fond of his voice. He's just okay for me. I wonder if he'll be a big name producer 10-20 years from now.

P.S. - Ben, since you're reading this thread, have you been watching "Rock the Cradle"? A'Keiba Hammer is an old-school soul singer, albeit with less of a voice than Melinda or Jennifer Hudson.

I have not watched any of "Rock the Cradle". I have just given up on MTV. I need to rid myself of V-H1 and their reality shows and I'll be a much better person methinks!
