American Idol sends all four home curlio
 2008-05-07 22:08:28
Television American Idol will be sending all four of their Idols home this week. One is leaving for lack of votes, while the other three will return to their respective hometowns for the traditional parade and performances.

Ryan Seacrest says that they had nearly 51 million votes, the highest vote total this season. He also said that the Top 3 were all within 1 million votes of each other, which he says is close. Ryan then briefly talks to the judges. Randy Jackson stands by his comments to Syesha Mercado yesterday. He added that he wasn't the reason she cried, it was the whole moment and what Paula Abdul said to her. Paula said she just wanted to help give Syesha her moment of recognition. Simon once again said he wasn't angry last night, just surprised at some of the bad song choices. Then the Top 4 treat us to "Reeling in the Years" with some lame choreography, but the singing was okay.

Then we get a brief run at the results. David Archuleta, the annointed one, is up first. Gee, wonder if he's safe? Ryan asks him how he's feeling. Apparently Archie hasn't gotten the memo, 'cause he's nervous. He says no matter how well you do there is always a chance. Ryan tells him he is safe, to no one's surprise.

The Top 4 went to Las Vegas on a private 737 to see the Cirque Du Soleil "Love" Beatles show. Jason Castro was mobbed by girls at the airport. They all got red carpet makeovers. After the show, they went backstage to meet the cast.

More results then as David Cook comes out. Ryan asks Randy what Cookie needs to do if he stays in the competition. Randy tells him to be himself. He has been one of the most original they have ever had. Cookie is also safe, naturally. Ryan then tells Syesha and Jason to come out. He starts to give them the results, to which Jason is all confused and asks if he's actually going to tell them now. Naturally, Ryan isn't.

The Ford commercial featured all of the Idols as matadors with a Ford Mustang as the "bull." They looked cute.

The "question and answer" round was back again tonight. Emily asked Cookie on a date. Cookie avoided by asking what she likes to do. Emily offered to show Cookie around Pittsburg. Ryan would get her phone number and hook them up. Sarah asked all what the biggest thing they have overcome has been. Syesha said it was stage fright. Jason said it was the brain being dead. Allison asked Simon why he hasn't been knighted yet. Simon said it was a good question that he asks himself that all the time. He adds to the Queen that he is available. Mara asked Syesha if she's proud of her accomplishments and how she feels being the only girl. Syesha is proud. Teresa asked everyone if they have gotten feedback from artists they have covered. Cookie got feedback from Our Lady Peace, who were happy that he did their song. Marla asks Simon if he has ever acted because he could be the next James Bond. Simon said he likes the questions this week and, again, is available.

Maroon 5 performed their new single "If I Never See Your Face Again" which features Rhianna, but Adam Levine sang her part too. He talks about the tour, saying he never really knows where they are, he just shows up and they put a guitar on him. Ryan asks if he has any advice for the Idols. He tells them to get ready to work. He says they will get jaded and hate it but really they will love it.

Bo Bice returns to perform "Witness." I was never really fond of Bo, but since he's been on his own and gotten away from the manipulation of AI he's playing stuff I can tolerate. I actually like this song. Ryan talks to him afterwards about how this year's contestants can play instruments. He thinks it's a great opportunity and that it was a nice mixture. He tells them to practice practice practice. He has watched and seen Cookie take risks with his arrangements. Ryan congratulates Bo and his wife as they are expecting baby number two, which will be another boy.

Then we're down to the final results. Jason tells Ryan that he did pack his bags like Simon told him to. He then says that someone told him he shot the Tamborine Man last night. Ryan asked him why it's been so tough for him. Jason was it's his inexperience hurting him. Moving up to two songs was difficult, so this week he tried to pick two songs he knew but he said that he still messed it up. As for Syesha, she talked about her emotional reaction to her second song. She said she feels like she is living her dream and the song meaning got to her. In no surprise to anyone, Jason is going home.

Honestly I think most fans of Jason feel like I do that he's better off not winning. They didn't abandon him, they simply made the choice that he was better off on his own. I salute Jason for his humble attitude that allows him to take the criticism thrown at him by the fans of the show and by the judges without lashing back. He has a great attitude, and that will take him far in this world.

I'm on board with that - Jason is now free to get on with his career, it's been launched. He's a sweet, humble, kid, and he showed us the fun side we've heard about, tonight. I can't wait for his first CD!!

My 2nd fav is David Cook.. not my style, but that kid can sing!

Thanks for the great commentary!

What I really like about Syesha is she's the only contestant who is improved with each week. Every week, she shows great improvement and for that, she wins more and more fans. At first, I don't fancy her but now I realize, she deserves in the Top 3. And give the boys the run of their money. In short, she has won me over. Now for the Top 3, whoever make a mistake like Jason will be sent home. And so Syesha, I hope you will do your best and not to disappoint your fans..Good luck!!

With Cook in the top 3, he won't avoid having to sign with 19. Hopefully they'll realize they should treat him like they treated Daughtry, rather than how they treated Bo Bice.

Speaking of Bo, my wife bought his first album for me and I never took it out of the cellophane because I'd already heard the crap they made him sing. I went out and bought his new one, which is pretty good. I've always liked Bo, and to this day, think his acapella performance of "In a Dream" is the single gutsiest thing any AI contestant has ever done. (Still on YouTube, as is his version of "Stand By Me" which demonstrates quite clearly why the judges are overblowing their praise to Archuleta).

!st off, Paula Abdul isnt a good judge & should be out of the competition. She wants to be loved by all contestants and be known as the goody goody judge by giving good remarks no matter how bad they sing. The most unqualified & crazy judge in history who screws up by not behaving while sitting on the panel like a drunken drug addict dancing while the show is on.
BTW was Syesha's pathetic crying helped her to score points to attract voters like what Paula & Simon did out of sympathy. Afterall it's only a singing competition WTH cry for?? Her image definitely changed for the better like her hair style.

Thank dog, Jason is gone. He reminds of Sanjaya from season 6 and Kevin Covais from season 5. Jason has no career; that would require a voice, which he is surely lacking. Perhaps he will release a CD, then go on to join the ranks of all the other teeny-bopper one hit wonders. BTW, that was THE ABSOLUTE worst Bob Marley and Bob Dylan covers ever, Rosie O'Donnell could nave done better.

It is good that Jason got kicked off because the only reason he stayed on for as long as he did was not because of his voice but because of his fan base... If you were going strictly off voice I would have to say that David Cook being the winner and Syesha Mercado being the runner up because the other David is a good singer but not someone you would want to win Idol he is to I guess you could say pitchy and also his voice is kind of Winy.

Castro went home, no surprise.

Syesha has followed in the footsteps of Elliott Yamin by consistently being in the bottom all the way to the Top Three!

HA! A person after my own heart! If you didn't read yesterday's webboards, I said that Archuleta's version of SBM didn't touch Bo's version...

I've also always liked Bo. In many ways, D. Cook reminds me of Bo in the way that he works the stage, knows where the cameras are, etc. Obviously, D. Cook has been much more aggressive about altering arrangements and actually embracing musical theater.

I saw an interview with Bo recently. He's quite proud of his current album but he openly admitted that it probably won't do as well as it would if he had been out touring non-stop. He said that he's put strong limits on how much he will tour because his #1 priority is to be a father to his 3 1/2 year old son plus his next child.

AI fans just do not get anything right, Jason is truly unique, not like all the boring voices like SM, DA all the same, Jason will be on top just like Daughtry, unique voices and good looking too, Jason I will miss you on AI, time to tune AI off, at this point who cares who wins, won't buy any CD from the remaining three

Are you stupid or just too blinded by your hatred of Jason to see straight? Even in the moments when I hated Fantasia, Pickler and Daughtry the most I knew they would have at least a measure of success just from their fan base. If anyone from this season could be compared to Kevin Covais it would be David Archuleta. Then again that's not really fair. Kevin wasn't nearly as boring as Archie has been.

I think Jason is probably the happiest one right now to be sent home. He's a folk-rock artist and now he can go and record an album of music that he wants to play. And to the people who say he's a crap singer, I have to disagree, because it's all subjective. Leonard Cohen can't sing, but man is he great! Jason always reminded me of artists like Jack Johnson, Xavier Rudd and Damien Rice. I think he will indeed find his niche out there. I for one will definitely check out his CD when it comes out. So good luck to you Jason!

It was good to see Bo Bice again. He is a really good singer and has a good head on his shoulders by putting family first. That is not going to help his career in the least, but he has good values. I thought the song he did was very good as well.

I don't know how far Jason will go in this industry. Yes, he has a unique voice. Yes, he has charm. Yes, he has a fan base. But there are two things that will limit him:

1. The Constantine Factor. Constantine was in the same shoes as Castro. Unique. Charming. Big fan base. People on this forum and my wife as well were swooning over him and saying they'll go to his concerts and buy his album. Well, fast forward to 2007 when his solo album actually came out and sold a meager 9,000 copies the first week and 25,000 copies total. Not exactly the same fan base that supported him in AI. My wife never bought the album, nor went to his concerts when he was in town (he even showed up for free at the Mall of America and she still did not go and she loooooved Constantine). How many people can honestly raise their hand right now and say that they have supported Constantine outside of AI? On the flip side, Constantine has made a nice career for himself as an actor, so I must give him respect for that. Anyway, Jason will experience the same thing. Once the honeymoon is over, people will wipe the soft lens filter from their eyes and go about their business. When Jason drops an album, we'll see how much support he actually gets.

2. The Slacker Factor. Jason admitted on the show yesterday that this music thing was tough. They are doing commercials, interviews, crappy choreography, traveling, and then choosing and rehearsing two songs to perform a week. If he cannot handle that, I don't know if he will be able to handle the music business. When the business makes him "jaded" as Adam Levine puts it, will he have the strength to keep going on, or will his "laid back" attitude overtake him? Is he the type of person that will "practice, practice, practice" like Bo Bice told them, or will he just get bored and yawn, like he did on Tuesday's show? I wish all the best for him. I honestly do not know if he has what it takes. The stereotypical slacker-stoner image doesn't help, but neither does "give up" attitude.

Constantine's problem was time. He took far too long to release an album. After he was on I did buy two CDs mainly because he was on them. I bought his band's album and I bought the Queen tribute album because he did Bohemian Rhapsody on it. I saw his solo CD the other day in the store and passed it up. He simply waited too long to get it out.

Look at Elliot Yamin by comparison. Many people hated him on the show, called him crap. Fast Forward to today where I constantly hear him on the radio. I don't think Elliot will ever rival Daughtry's success, but he'll have a living.

Jason's success depends on timing. As for the slacker factor, as long as he doesn't have an AI machine behind him he can work at his own pace rather than the heck that the Idols go through.

seacrud with his hands in his pockets the entire time bo brice rocked the house. even mugged to the cameras as the did fly by-s. that idiot is a nasty piece of work.

bo was wonderful.

ben ben ben. calling out constantine and castro in the same sentence? jason is a musician. constantine is an actor. more to the point would be to compare constantine to sayesha.

jason was happy to leave. i appreciate that he is aware of his inexperience. that the vast majority of what he has been put up to on the show does not suit him. i also appreciate that he does not belong in the ai machine. he will do just fine.

someone pointed out that cookie is not out of the machine if he is in the top three. i had no idea. blows the he should go this coming week to save his music soul. i guess he is just going to have to be the winner then.

I still stand by my points. When Constantine was on the show, he was a singer like everyone else. Everyone was trying to get a record contract, not a SAG card. After he left, he was loyal to his band and tried to make things work. It didn't and he went back to his roots and did musical theater. So singer/actor/whatever, I am comparing Constantine and Castro based on the audience swoon factor. And besides, Castro has already appeared on some crappy reality show as some girl's boyfriend prior to AI, so he is just as big of a fame loose woman as Constantine in my opinion. I'll let time be the judge on how successful Castro will be. I say it is completely possible, but the probability is lacking in strength.

So happy to see Jason go, after that pathetic performance on Tuesday. I compared David Archuleta's version of Stand by Me with Bo Bice's, and it just dawned on me why Bo's is so much better: David does not sing with any "soul". He has a good voice and all, but he is sooooo boring. Give a few more years to mature.

So happy to see Syesha standing again after being in the bottom two. This must be a record for any season. I didn't count, but she must have been there more often than Elliott two years ago.

She finds herself in the identical position as Vonzell Solomon and Kimberly Locke in their respective seasons: A female with little or no chance against two obviously stronger contestants.

As much as I liked Jason...it was time for him to go and I think he wanted to. Syesha is very talented and will go far on broadway....don't think she will have a great CD when and if she is signed. David A. needs to mature and don't even get me started on even comparing him to Bo. How many ballads can you listen to! David C. shows that he can be original and as much as I love Daughtry, I think Davd has a whole different sound to how he delivers a song. Beautiful range, soft and then turning it up several notches. Bo was awesome as always and he never missed a beat even when the band did! Should be very interesting next week and have to throw in a plug for Bo. Go buy that new CD from WalMart or download on I Tunes. You will be amazed as how many different types of music that man can sing. He is the true Southern Rocker!

You know I am so conflicted right now.

I agree, Jason was ready to go. I enjoy Jason the way I enjoy Jimmy Buffet. It's that care free, skrew the world, I am gonna have fun doing what I like to do. That is what I like about Jason. He doesn't conform, maybe because he dosen't know how. I don't know...

Back to the conflict---

Should Cookie win? He is the best, but could he do as well in the #3 spot without all the AI stigma?

Should Archie win? He is the chosen one from the judges. He has a great voice that doesn't usually come from someone so young. But his heart is not in his music. He is a robot, doing what his dad wants him to do, not what he wants to do. As several has stated, he has no soul in his singing. And he sings "old" if that makes sense.

Should Syesha win? You know, she "fits the suit" (Let's see who catches that) And she is the type of singer that Clive Davis loves.

So who should win? I think the fermented grape juice in my fridge wins tonight!

Dear Mr. Website owner, Let's not stoop to name calling such as "are you stupid." Again, Archie's future in as a Wayne Newton impersonator in a second class Vegas casino. If Jason is to have any sort of career it will be based upon his ability to make prepubescent girls swoon. Once they reach puberty I suspect they will move on to artists with real musical talent.

This has been a great season thus far. JC, thought you were great because of your unique style but sorry Bud, you blew it.....best of luck to you in your future endeavours...you'll be great!!! SM, you got me hooked, I cannot wait to see what you do next....you go Girl!! DA, you can sing Bud, but you gotta get away from those 'whinny' ballads....they are all starting to sound the same. David Cook, now here is the next Idol and America, he is a FINE example of a human/gentleman first, and a fine creative artist that can sing and would set precedence for the young people not only in the US, but around the world......DAVID COOK, no matter what...you are an AMERCAN IDOL.....Keep up your good work, and always keep your loving heart.....KEEP ROCKIN', BABE......

Oh, like David has been singing so many soul songs now? Of course he will be a rock singer!

And as for Carrie, she is perfect. She is country, Bo is rock. Carrie has won a lot of awards being in country which Bo may not have won.

But I do think Bo and Carrie were a tie on AI.

Nope, Cookie needs to be away from the pressure and conformity of the AI image with 19M. Hopefully, they've learned with Daughtry that some artists need to be given their space...

Didn't I read that Clive just regained the reins at one of the major record labels? At 80 yrs old, I just don't see Clive being able to repeat the magic that he had with Whitney...

Yes, Archie should win. It will be an all-out fight between 19M and his father, as I think that most of us have read about his father being recently banned from backstage. Since 19M has finally embraced that no publicity is bad publicity, their public feuds will generate lots of waning public interest in the reigning AI...

Will this hurt Archie? Probably. At this point, there's no way for him to live a life that is not marred by publicity seeking individuals controlling his future- be it his father or 19M...
