American Idol picks their final two curlio
 2008-05-14 22:09:30
Television American Idol finally whittled down their Idols to just the final two tonight. After much speculation that it was an assured David-David finale, what would America actually decide? Many times has the Top Three held the most shocking result of the season!

Ryan Seacrest quickly moves the show into motion tonight by heading straight for the group performance. The Top Three performed "Ain't No Stopping Us Now" with some simple choreography. They did okay with the moves, though both Davids look awkward with dancing. Randy Jackson and Paula Abdul were up and dancing too.

The Ford commercial features the Idols as music stars after having their fortunes told while singing "Heaven."

Ryan says that there were 56 million votes yesterday before giving us our recap of yesterday's performances.

Fantasia Barrino returns to sing the song "Bore Me." I love her flashy hot pink hair, but that was about it. The song had more singing by her backup singers than by her. She has gotten even more loud and shrieky since she won. How can she even have working vocal chords singing like that? The look on Simon Cowell's face at the end of the performance said it all. Fantasia has finished a stint on Broadway in The Color Purple and is now headed back to the studio - lucky us.

Ryan teased that we would be getting some results, but naturally they are saving that for the very end of the show. David Archuleta came out first to have his hometown video shown. He returned to Murray, Utah, where he was mobbed by screaming girls and high school cheerleaders (who probably didn't know he was alive before AI, I might add) everywhere he went. Eventually, when he goes to a mall, the emotions overwhelm him and he starts crying. He didn't think so many people would show up to support him. The cutest moment was when he said "Gosh, where did they park?" Mayor Snarr declares the day David Archuleta Day. Archie says the clip was embarrasing because they showed a lot of him crying. Ryan tells him it's okay to show emotion, then asks about his biggest obstacle. Archie says that learning three songs with everything else that was going on. Ryan says that this is a close race and there is a possibility that this will be Archie's last time on the show, so we get the clip of his journey so far.

Syesha Mercado went back home too. She first goes to Sarasota, then off to Bradenton where someone hand her a baby. She also has the day declared Syesha Mercado Day. She returned to her old high school and goes on a helicopter ride. On the way back she also gets emotional as she is living her dream. Ryan asks her about Paula's comments that she won't make the final. Syesha says everyone has their opinion. Simon thinks Paula was too harsh. We then get a clip of her journey so far.

David Cook then came onstage where he said that it wasn't his idea to audition. He originally went to be his little brother Andrew's support. The hometown video plays. He is greeted by screaming girls everywhere too. He does a concert downtown, then heads to his old elementary school to thank his music teacher for inspiring him. He too breaks down at the overwhelming support, as does his little brother. He even heads to a Kansas City Royals game to throw the ceremonial first pitch.

Randy told the idols to be proud of themselves and give themselves a round of applause no matter what. Paula told them they are standing in a path reserved for great things to come. Simon said he likes these three and if it's the final he's hoping for we'll have a humdinger next week.

The final will indeed be the heavily predicted David-David finale. Syesha didn't know what to say to all of her supporters, just thank you. She then performs for the last time on the show. Hopefully, when Cookie wins, either he will have enough strength to resist the pressure of the AI machine to churn out crap, or the AI machine realized the mistake they made with Bo Bice by forcing him to churn out crap.

I agree with Winona and the rest, I want a spectacular finale. We have all known that the final two would be the two Davids. Now, I want them to duke it out for the crown. I could care less who wins. I know I won't be buying any of their albums.

Waiting for the real show to start...

I think that we all want a spectacular finale...but seriously, has AI ever had a spectacular finale?

I can't remember one, and I've been watching since Ruben vs. Clay.

I remember spectacular Top 3 nights, but I don't ever remember a spectacular finale.

Part of the reason that there's never been a great finale is that the contestants are always saddled with a 19M song that always sucks. Most years, the song has been so bad that even the judges comment on it sucking...remember Randy's comment regarding "Inside Your Heaven" - the song with which Carrie and Bo got stuck - "The good news is that you did the best that you could. The bad news is that I don't know about that song..."

Finale = one guaranteed bad 19M song + one retread/song previously performed by the contestant + X (has varied by the year)

Most years, even X has sucked.

This is not a formula for a spectacular finale.

HOW TO VOTE ON THE WEST COAST
Fellow Westerners, have you realized that since the show airs 3 hours earlier in the east coast you can actually vote as soon as the show ends on the East Coast. You do not have to wait until the show is over in your area. The phone lines are for the entire country and not blacked out in any area because the show has not yet aired in that time zone. But how do you kn ow that number you favorite contestant has that week? Just read the summary of the show on Curlio and figure what position your contestant performed. The number to call for that person is 1-866-IDOLS 01; the second performer is 1-866-idols 02, ect. You can start voting as soon as you know who's who. Happy voting.
