Last month, Scott Weiland was sentenced to eight days in jail on a DUI charge. There was some concern over the sentence as it might interfere with the planned Stone Temple Pilots reunion tour that singer Scott was to be a part of. That worry was for nothing as Scott spent a whopping 14 minutes in jail.
Scott turned himself in to the Van Nuys around 9 AM on Monday morning. By the time he went off to booking, it was 12:15. In what might be a speed record, Scott was assigned a jail cell at 6:41. A mere 14 minutes later, he was released.
Scott will naturally still have to abide by the rest of his sentence which included an 18 month alcohol program, 4 years of probation, and a $2,500 fine.
To put the jail sentence into perspective, the time spent in jail was less than one percent of the actual time of the sentence. If we give him credit for the entire day, that puts it at slightly less than 10 hours, which would be 5.2 percent of the time he was sentenced to. Under that theory of justice, a convicted rapist or murderer sentenced to 20 years would serve little more than a year.
Now, was he released so quickly because he's famous or because the jails are that full? Why even bother with jail sentences then? We could save the tax payers a ton of money by just smacking their little hands and telling them that if they don't behave they'll be sent to bed without supper the next time.
