 FCC approves Sirius-XM satellite radio merger curlio

Money Matters The Federal Communications Commission has voted 3-2 to approve the proposed merger of Sirius Satellite Radio and XM Satellite Radio. The holdout vote was Deborah Taylor Tate who wanted the two companies to settle charges of violating FCC rules before she would vote.
Subscribers will not have to buy new radios to receive a mix of programming from both services, according to the companies. But if they want to pursue a special pay-per-channel a la carte option, they will need new sets.
The merger means that the companies might finally make a profit.

The two companies agreed to a set of conditions that may lead to greater competition between manufacturers of their radios as well as a three-year price cap.

There was just a lengthy discussion on this topic on CNBC.

Bottom line, both companies are seriously overborrowed and 2+2 does not equal less than three, which is what both companies are claiming will happen when they merge.
