Indian Idol 4 - Boys Face A Shocking First Elimination

Indian Idol 4 took a dramatic turn this Friday as the first four boys faced eliminations. The elimination episode was recorded live at the IBN7 Studio and the only people present were host Hussein Kuwajerwala, judge Anu Malik, and the 15 male contestants themselves.
The show began with a lengthy discussion on who should and should not be eliminated. All of the contestants were asked to vote who they thought should be eliminated this week. As expected, Remo Ghosh and Keshav Prasad received the most votes from their fellow contestants.
Back in the studio, Hussein asked Remo what he thought of them thinking that he should be eliminated. He replied that, "as far as that day’s performance is concerned, I think I should be eliminated. I don’t believe that I am not worthy of this competition. "
AM jumped in and asked him to not be diplomatic, but rather, to say what he feels. Remo said that they probably said that because they didn’t like my song. AM asked whether he thinks that he didn’t sing well. Remo responded that he didn’t think he sang that badly. Even judge Javed Akhtar thought it was good, as did AM. Remo didn’t think he should be in the Bottom Four.
Hussein then moved on to Keshav and asked him his opinion. Keshav said that he picked a tough song and challenged himself to sing in a different genre, something that even AM pointed out. And as far as I know, there are only a few here who have the ability to sing playback, even though everyone is a singer. There’s a different between an imperfect performance and imperfect singing. AM said that the competition is also about who handles the pressure well. All in all, Keshav said he tried his best and that he should not be in the Bottom Four.
Then Ali Hussein was asked what he thinks will happen. Ali was also unsure about who made what impact on the public in that minute and a half that they performed. He said, "I don’t think I should be eliminated so quickly because I can do better in the future."
(Deepa’s rant about Ali: He was one of my predictions for elimination this week, not because he didn’t sing well, but because of his attitude. He comes off as very arrogant in all of his interviews. In the theater round, he blamed his forgetting the lyrics on his partner. During his interview at the end of the show, he also said something along the lines of “my elimination will have such an impact that other young people will not make a career out of music.” Really? Please stop talking.)
Then we moved on to the very shocking Bottom Six. I’m going to cut through all the crap and just lay it out. I will say that AM was very, very upset at this list. He was shocked, hurt and frustrated.
The first person in the bottom six was…hold your breath…Rajdeep Chatterjee. Okay, WHAT???!!!! I am seriously shocked about this and am doing everything in my power to stay calm. This is the guy who basically had the best performance on Saturday, hands down. No one, and I mean NO ONE, would have ever predicted this. And it got worse.
Here, Anu Malik actually asked Hussein if he was sure. Hussein said that it was shocking but true. AM responded that he was very appalled and hurt, and that this was the worse thing anyone could do to Rajdeep. He is the find of Indian Idol. (This whole time, Rajdeep looks like he’s afraid to breathe less the public find fault with that, too).
Pranav Srivastava was in the Bottom Six. (He was also one of my predictions for elimination).
Ali Hussein was in danger. (Can I just say that I totally called this one?)
Anu Malik was still in shock, especially now that Ali is in the bottom. He had his own little rant about this, and for the first time, I actually felt bad for him!
The next person in the Bottom Six was Sourabh Mehta.
Parashar Joshi was announced in the Bottom Six. I’m sorry, come again?? Yes, Parashar wasn’t the best on Saturday, but he was not bad enough to get eliminated. This one was another shocker for me.
There was another rant from Anu Malik, after which Keshav was announced safe. (Uh oh!).
If I had been shocked about Rajdeep, Hussein’s next announcement sucked the life out of me. I think I became a ghost!
There was one spot left, and it belonged to either Prosenjit Kosambi or Mohit Lalwani. I had predicted Prosenjit to be eliminated, but at the rate things were going, I was convinced that Mohit was the one in the Bottom Xix. Anu Malik still couldn’t get past the fact that Keshav was safe and Rajdeep was in the bottom.
A very scared Prosenjit asked Anu Malik what else they can do to impress the people. Dance on their heads, came the reply from AM.
Then Hussein proved me right and announced that Mohit was in the bottom.
This may have turned me violent had I not kept reminding myself of Bhavin Dhanak from Indian Idol 3, who had the potential to make it big but got eliminated in the piano rounds. I’ve been comparing Mohit and Bhavin since the start of the season.
Mohit was too stunned to even sit down in his chair. Anu Malik didn’t even know whether to laugh or not.
So the contestants who were safe were Prosenjit, Remo, Keshav (still upsetting), Kapil Thapa, Sandeep Ubale, Bhanu Pratap Singh, Roshan, Kuldeep Singh Chauhan, and Charit Dixit.
Hussein asked Mohit what he thought and all he could say is that he tried his best. Anu Malik told Hussein that there is no way that Mohit or Rajdeep are eliminated because then we would lose a potential Indian Idol.
Rajdeep finally spoke and said that he never thought he would be out this early. He has been working day and night for this competition, and that only he knows how hard he is working. All that he has been focused on is singing and getting into the next rounds. The judges liked it but why the audience didn’t like it, he couldn’t say. Then, bless his heart, Rajdeep smiled. Poor Parashar couldn’t even say anything!
Finally, after much discussion, Hussein announced that Rajdeep and Mohit had gotten higher votes than the other contestants and were, therefore, safe. At this point, Mohit lost it and had to be consoled by Anu Malik.
So the four contestants to be eliminated were Parashar, Ali, Pranav, and Sourabh.
The rest of the episode showed the eliminated contestants going back to their residence and telling the female contestants. None of the girls thought that it was true – they all thought that it was joke. Much sadness ensued when they figured out that it was the truth.
The episode ended on a high note with Nirali Fauzdar, Tulika Ganguly, Bhavya Pandit, and Roshan doing a show in Ahmedabad, Nirali’s hometown. Anu Malik was there to support them as well.
Up tomorrow…the girls’ second piano round.

Oh I just came home and heard the news from my mom and sister. I didn't even watch the show but came straight to curlio to find out whether it was true.
Seriously what the #$@##@ how on earth could Rajdeep of all be voted out?
Forget about the fact that Remo (I have an inkling that he will be the next hated one here down at curlio) got the most votes but for shiva's sake did they really have to eliminate this guy.
I mean after his Laaga chunari men Daag?
I just don't get it - was this the shock card they wanted to give? If so it's just a stupid TRP move because he was one the guys that would have made us tune in every week.
I honestly don't get it!

Guahahahah!!!!!This is simply ridiculous. I mean-HOW GULLIBLE CAN THE INDIAN MASSES GET? I think its the same gullibility that forces us to elect the SAME failed govt again and again and again. What is happening here is VERY simple. II4 is not getting enough votes-at least not enough to fill the producers' coffers. Reason-too many reality shows out there-and therefore too many SMSes per viewer. So share of SMS is dwindling. What to do. Brilliant plan. Take 4, add two contestants-one who is a mindblowing singer, another who looks like a rockstar, and put them in the danger zone. What happens? people say-OMIGOD (like deepa's reaction) and say-out with my cellphone-I must vote to keep rajdeep in (for those who go by music) while I must keep mohit in (for those who go by looks). And up goes the SMS count. How can this be any different than racking up TRPs by killing MrX in some 'K' serial, then bringing him back 6 weeks later? probably-no money (read SMS) is involved there.
The surprising part is-the indian public CANNOT see it. and therefore-they rule-be it the producers-or be it our politicians.

Well it was wrong but not shocking apart from Ali i think none of the four were good. But Rajdeep and mohit got safe & that is fact. May be ali will be called in wild card round.
I just think that all these eliminations show that failures are tough to take but everyone takes it his way. Like if torsha or rajdeep go may b i wouldnt watch the show either but failures are personal & they should be.
Else they should have shown the recorded girls episode like the last episode where eliminations & performances happened simaltaneously so we get a move on with the season.

I know, I felt the same way. Thank goodness he and Mohit are still in. But for how long, that's a different story.
Do you feel up to covering tomorrow's piano round?

Yet, you forget that a lot of us don't live in India, and therefore cannot vote.
This is the nature of a reality show - if people don't want to see their favorite go out, they have to vote. It's the very definition of the "reality show."
And I'm so tired of all these conspiracy theories about corrupt TV producers. Show me some hard proof that the results are rigged, and maybe I'll listen. Otherwise, please spare us the holier-than-thou attitude about how everyone's gullible.

I don't mind the show with only eliminations. I just truly think that this elimination, Rajdeeps elemination is undeserved.

Well there is difference between disagreeing and being a totall (...). I think our guest was the latter.
Don't bite!
Some guests are just here for the sake of throwing bait.
Anyways, I'm happy to do tomorrow's episode however I'm afraid I will only have time by Monday to do it. Hope that's not a prob.

Deepa-I can give you proof-question is-will you be ready to believe it? I certainly cannot go and use spycams to bring out the truth (even that does not work nowadays). What I will say, and I have already said-is that it was enough to be on the sets for just one episode. I SAW the judges reading comments from scripts (FYI-the contestants probably rehearse a couple of times before the actual performance, and judges can be fed the feedback from there). I also saw how the show is edited and how what happens on set is different from what is shown.
I have no personal vendetta against anyone here-its just that I am surprised (and partly by the fact that elections will be coming up soon)-that people can be fed some cock and bull stories-and they believe it-again and again and again. Same in our TV-same in our govt. Perhaps that's why its called reality TV. cos today even reality is doctored.

Also, and I know Deepa can stick up for herself, an attack en persona is in my opinion getting personal.
It's not a discussion anymore. We did the whole I hate II for two years and it sort of kills the mood. So we know not everything might be that kosjer but well let it be. Some of us at this point just want to enjoy the show.
I actually agree with you that a lot of the show don't make sense because some shows are not live or recorded after each other. But in the end it's great entertainment.
Well sort of. ...
One minor request - could you give yourself a name? it's easier to seperate you from the rest that way.

Yeah, for some reason, this particular elimination dragged on forever! Even the girls elimination was quicker. They did it in less than 15 minutes. This one went on for an hour. Completely unnecessary, especially considering they could have done two episodes in one and saved us all grief.

What is shocking about Keshav being Safe??? There were many others who didn't do justice to their songs!! Keshav truly took a tough song but that wasn't his choice!! Each singer has been assigned a song and this song in particular has tough lyrics to go with the tune which appears as though the singer is hurrying through the song.Listen to the original track and you'll know.Like all the other contestants Keshav also gave his best and also made up after the initial mistake. So no need to be surprised or shocked at his not being in the bottom six.
He didn't deserve to be in the bottom six!!!

Deepa, I think you don't understand Hindi well. Else you will never rant against Ali Huseein.
1. He never blamed his forgetting the lyrics on his partner in the piano round. Infact, it was the other way round. Ali had begun the song well concentrating on the lyrics. But Tanushree ( I guess that's her name) forgot the lyrics and tune from the word go. But anyhow she kept the song going using space-filler lyrics.
It's in the stanza that Ali lost it and stopped. Then after coming out Tanushree started blaming him in front of Hussein that he forgot the lyrics and didn't even catch the sur. Ali defended himself saying that unlike her he isn't able to use space-fillers and she needn't teach him sur.
When they were called back by the judges for the results Tanushree continued her attack on him when he said that he accepts that he forgot the lyrics but he's as serious about the competition as the rest of the contestants.
So it's not like Tanushree herself was the epitome of of perfection. She lost the lyrics and tune even before Ali but blamed him just because he didn't use space fillers.
The judges said that it's forgiven that he forgot the lyrics coz he's a good singer and he was in.
2. He DID NOT say that due to his elimination other young people will not make a career out of music. I'll translate exactly what he said " I consider this the failure of my years of practice. But I will make sure that my future generation (i.e his children) never come into full time singing". Which is justified because he's realized that it's not safe enough to put all your eggs in one basket.

Nitish Kumar Again
Sometimes we hate people, but can't help remembering them. Very true.
The praises for you will always be there coz of having credits of being a full time music news site, who covers each and everything in details and so the viewship, which no one else could claim of.
Anyway, I was to introduce something in reference of Indian Idol as you could expect. I am coming up with a blog indianidol4.in, which will be including the complete videos embedded, which could be taken as reference.
Just to share this much. Enjoy a nice time.

Ok now all Torhsa Sarkar supporters must see this episode again nd again. For me it was payback time on Aisha's elimination last year.
I honestly wont complain at any elimination as long as torsha, rajdeep & sandeep remain safe whether they come in bottom six or top six.

I think Saurabh is a very good singer who was not given much attention. He sang the Sarfarosh song very well. I don't know what reason was there to complain about the choice of song.
Parashar, Mohit, Remo and Bhanu are relatively lower quality singers compared to the rest and they should have gone.
The girls were just great. Torsha was really really amazing.
