American Idol named the first three people to their Top 12 tonight. Nine of the American Idol hopefuls were eliminated with no hint of who might make it to the wildcard show.
Our results show started with host Ryan Seacrest telling us that there was an unprecedented 24 million votes. That is 10 million votes more than last year at this time. Ryan asked the judges about yesterday's performances. Randy Jackson said that some people stepped up while others faltered. Kara Dioguardi thought it was a good show though some disappointed. She named Stevie, Casey and Stephen as disappointments before adding Simon. Paula Abdul agreed that Simon disappointed. Ryan told them it was about during the show not after, then he asked Simon Cowell to judge Kara's performance. He thought she was amazing.
A recap of our idol journey so far came before we were treated to a hot steaming mess of a group performance. They tried to sing and dance to "I'm Yours" by Jason Mraz. It didn't work. They can't sing together and they are worse at dancing than singing. What will they do with the blind guy for group performances?
After a commercial, Ryan treats us to a recap of last night's crappy performances. Even in recap mode they sounded terrible. Then we have a chat with the contestants. Jackie Tohn would rate her performance an A- or B+. Anoop Desai said that everyone is relaxed now, looking forward to seeing if America thinks they are worthy. He then admitted he's never been more nervous in his life. Tatiana Del Toro just wants to keep her dream a live. Stevie Wright is proud she got this far but still confused by the judges. She wants to know if she should sing older songs or younger songs.
First up for results was Casey Carlson. She knows now she should have picked a better song. She is right, as she isn't in the Top 12.
Stephen Fowler might have picked the wrong song, but wanted to show a different side of himself. He should have stuck with the side that we saw before 'cause he was out too.
First into the Top 12 was the Cheap Crack Ho, Alexis Grace. She sang her song from last night again, "Never Loved a Man." She was much better now that I wasn't distracted by the Cheap Crack Ho' look.
We're apparently running behind as we move to dual results. Ricky Braddy and Jackie Tohn get their results at the same time. Jackie disagrees with Simon's comment yesterday that she blew it. Simon says they will see. Simon is right, they are both out.
Next up are Anoop Desai and Michael Sarver. Michael is in the Top 12, Anoop is out. darn, I wanted Anoop to stay. Michael performed his song from last night again, "I Don't Wanna Be."
By the way I'm very disappointed in my Indian voting block. I expected more racial loyalty out of you. After Michael performs, Ryan tells us that only 20,000 votes separated Michael and Anoop. I hope that means the judges will bring Anoop back for the wildcard show. Dusty and I figured that they pretty much blew the final result right here. They tell us that Anoop wasn't far behind Michael. Now we're 99% sure the girls didn't land two in the Top 3 after their dismal performances, so it's two guys in. Since Anoop was so close, that means that Michael was the 2nd guy and we still have the top guy to place into the Top 3 yet.
We then get a clip of the American Idol Experience at Disney World in Orlando. For the premiere all seven winners of American Idol showed up. Then we we treated to the return of Carly Smithson and Michael Johns from last season. Michael has an album coming out in May and a single in a few weeks. They performed "The Letter."
Anne Marie Boskovich, Brent Keith and Stevie Wright were all asked to stand in place, the AI kiss of death. Randy didn't think any of them lived up to their potential. He's right, they're all out.
That leaves us with Danny Gokey and Tatiana Del Toro. Tatiana, thankfully, couldn't talk. Paula said it's hard to say who would go on as you can't take anything for granted with this show. Then she picked Danny as the one going on. We'll find out who goes on after the break. After the break, Ryan asks Tatiana what the psychics say now. Tatiana said it's up to America and talent and faith now. Ryan asks Danny what he's thinking. He just wants it over with. So do I! Danny is through to the Top 12! He performs "Hero" again. They show someone from Danny's family/friends holding up a picture of Danny and his late wife, which makes me burst into tears.
I just have to say now that I think they were horrible to Tatiana. I know I hate her too, but even I think they were rude to her. After watching her auditions and Hollywood week she must have figured out that she was there mostly for the drama. She knew being saved for last tonight was just for the drama. Then Ryan has to rub it in with the dig about the psychics? Come on, I know she's annoying and all but give the girl a break.
Next week's performers will be:
Megan Corkrey
Kris Allen
Mishavonna Henson
Matt Breitzke
Allison Iraheta
Matt Giraud
Jasmine Murray
Kai Kalama
Jesse Langseth
Adam Lambert
Jeanine Vailes
Nick Mitchell/Norman Gentle
I agree. Although I don't like Tatiana, the producers were rather rude and insulting to let her go through that last bit at the end hoping that she would probably start crying and convulsing to their glee. That is just so callous! Did you notice how the camera just kept on oggling at her till the very end??
I absolutely adore Alexis!!! Cheap crack ho' look and all. People are trashing Danny, but, I am touched by him. He's inspirational, and I love watching him perform.
Tatiana may still be the wild card pick, so don't feel too sorry for her. She brought most of the hate on herself, and was the only one who couldn't manage any composure at the closing. I have a feeling the producers and judges will pick her as one of their wildcards just to give back the drama and so I'll wait until she's definitely out of the game until I feel too sorry for her.
I don't like how ya'll are doing American Idol this year.
It"s confusing and I liked the way it's been done in the past cause it keeps the audeince woundering who's going to be eleminated . I'd like to see the bottom 3
system back as well.
Everyone should understand that Curlio is likely calling Alexis Grace a "cheap crack ho" because she's showing her 2 y/o child on tv. They don't take too kindly of contestants bringing their children and displaying them on idol so get used to it.
okay first of all, I LOVE DANNY!!! he is amazing! But, how many groups of 12 are there? Im pretty sure there is only three. So if they are keeping 3 each week they will only have 9! I thought they are narrowing it down to the top 12?!
Dont agree with America for voting Michael Sarver, I personally think Ricky Brady and Anoop Desai deserves better, if you are talking about star quality.
No, Curlio refers to her as a cheap crack ho because of how she looked last night...which was indeed a cheap crack ho. Shelooked absolutely darling tonight and I'm happy for her.
Happy with the boys, but would have liked to see Anoop in there. Hopefully he's back for the wildcard!
Confused about wild cards. There are 3. Do the judges pick them? Does America pick them? Might they be any 3 of the "leftovers" or is there just one picked per group? I am very confused and I don't think the new elimination system was very well explained.
I was appalled by the "begging" that Tatiana did on the show on Tuesday night. I think that should not be permitted again. I have watched all seasons of the show and have never seen anything so blatant in my life. What, she didn't think that the other 35 contestants have dreams too? Somewhere there is a contract signed between the shows producers and the contestants....to me if this happens again the contestant should automatically be out - with nothing to do with the vote from America.
I think that Danny and Alexis deserved the spots. Alexis' outfit was way too old for her, though she normally has a cute and unique style. The girls this week were rough. I hated those awful stretch pants on the first girl. Her performance was just weird to me. Casey is cute and should probably just model instead. Taylor Swift is the only one who should sing Taylor Swift songs on-stage. The "Natural Woman" song wasn't terrible. It just felt like a pretty girl singing a song with a pretty voice. There wasn't any of the gravel or grit that song needs.
I like Michael Sarver. He's a nice guy. I just think that Anoop is a much better singer. I'm already disappointed still that Danny's friend did not get further. His voice is definitely better than some of the guys that made it through. That one surprised me, but I guess you never know. I hope that Anoop gets one of the wild card spots. I really like him. Danny's my favorite by far though!!!!!!! He's such a kind and talented man.
There are a lot of nice, non-arrogant people this time. It's hard to watch them get cut down by the judges' remarks, even if they do deserve it. (Though some of the performances this week WERE hard to watch.)
I don't think Tatiana has a bad voice. I think she was just very annoying during Hollywood week and I don't understand why the judges were begging for her to be that way again. I like her better when she's quieter. I don't think she'll get the wild card if the public votes on it, but if the judges do, she just might. Ugh.
I'm looking forward to hearing Jasmine next week. I think Nick/Norman is entertaining, strange as he is. =)

...loving this season already...
Thank you!! A true AI fan! I totally agree with you!
I was out tonite so I taped the show scheduled in my TV Guide for 9pm. when I got home and played my tape I saw the last minute of the show. It had gone on at 8pm. How did the TV Guide get it so wrong. That is so not right! I'm fumin.........
Ricky Brady is a fantastic singer. I hope he will be the "wild card". Please America vote for Nick Mitchel/Norman Gentel, when he is on next week. He is cool. It will keep me watching for sure!! I like all the singer that made it tonight! I feel sorry for Tatiana. She does sing well. It was her laugh that was so annoying!
Man, this "new and improved" version of Idol really sucks. (Thanks for the recap, because my totally LAME local Fox affiliate had technical problems through the whole show. There was no sound at all during Carly & Michael's performance, and most of the rest was a stuttering or machine gun sound--when the screen wasn't completely blank. I limped through with closed captioning until I couldn't stand it anymore. )
I think that last season will stand out as the final authentic competition. This year, the performers seem too coached, and their voices are too enhanced with reverb, etc. during the show. There are no mavericks here, and everyone has performed in a semi-professional way before and it shows. Where is the intelligence, creativity and willingness to buck advice, a la David Cook?
The drama behind the scenes--most of it encouraged by the producers--is a HUGE turnoff. This year feels more rigged than ever: as much as I admire the blind singer's resolve, he wasn't better than Jamal, Danny's friend. Jamal deserved that slot--and I'm never going to get past that. I'm going to pop in now and then to see what's going on, but for me--after seven seasons--AI is no longer "must see" TV.
