 American Idol eliminates two curlio
 2009-04-22 22:09:19
Television We lost two more Idols tonight as American Idol made up for using the Judges' Save last week. Matt Giraud was saved last week, but would it be worth it for him?

Host Ryan Seacrest tells us that they received the most votes they've had all season - 45 million. Before we head off to the Group Performance, we get a clip of the Top 7 working with a choreographer, Paula Abdul. Paula has, of course, won awards for her choreography. They perform "Shake Your Body Down to the Ground." The singing isn't live, but then you can't expect them to dance and sing now can you?

Ryan asks Paula how the Idols compared with some of the big names that Paula has worked with in her career. Paula has never seen anyone work as hard as the Idols did.

For the Ford Music Video this week the Idols were featured working in normal jobs while singing 'I'm Good, I'm Gone." It was rather lame actually.

Then we're on to some results. Lil Rounds is quickly placed in the bottom. Then Ryan shocks everyone by telling us that not only was she in the bottom, she was going home. She once again performs "I'm Every Woman." Ryan notes that Paula asked why Lil didn't sing like that last night. Randy Jackson tells her she is just on her way. Simon Cowell thinks she just made some bad decisions. Kara DioGuardi thinks that Lil learned something from this competition.

Ryan tells us that some of the biggest names in Disco are here to give us a medley of Disco songs. First up is a washed up former singer murdering "Band of Gold." If Disco wasn't dead she just killed it. Then we get Thelma Houston singing "Don't Leave Me This Way" which is a little better, but not much. She sings to Simon, who actually smiles. Next up is KC of KC and the Sunshine Band to sing "Get Down Tonight." He's lost his voice, but the dancing babes make up for it a little.

We're off to more results now. Kris Allen, Adam Lambert and Danny Gokey are safe. Anoop DeSai is in the Bottom again. That leaves either Matt Giraud, who was saved last week, or Allison Iraheta as the other Idol destined for the bottom. Matt is safe, Allison is in the bottom.

David Archuleta returns to sing his song "Touch My Hand." The song sounds off key. Thankfully he seems to have left his respirator at home today. Archie is headed to the UK to tour and this summer he'll tour with Demi Lovato. Archie tells Allison and Anoop that there are so many opportunities out there after the show.

Headed home with Lil is Anoop, which I suspected as soon as Ryan didn't torture him when he placed him in the bottom. Allison is safe for another week. Anoop sings his song again, "Dim All the Lights." Anoop says he is disappointed, but on the up side he gets to go home to Chapel Hill.

Looks like one more week of seeing pimple head on the TV... I really believe Gokey will win this!

When I saw how the contestants were seated I thought "dang it, Lil is safe again"......I figured since she was sitting with Adam, Kris and Danny, the back row with Matt, Anoop and Allison would be the bottom 3. What a shock when Ryan not only told her she was in the bottom 3, but she was going home. (it was about time IMHO.) I felt for sure the other elimination would be between Matt and Anoop.

I fell on the floor when Ryan said Matt was safe. Of course, I am thrilled because I love him. Obviously, there are a lot of voters like me who feel the same way.

In a way, I am not totally shocked Allison was one of the bottom 3 in retrospect. I love her voice, but I did not like her performance last night. It was a little too hard I think. Perhaps, this turned other people off as well.

For the first time this season I really enjoyed the group performance. All of them did a great job with the dancing. Paula was a good teacher.

Hey douchebag, that gasp you sometimes hear is the result of a paralyzed vocal chord. It was a bit off key, I'll give you 1/2.

Last night, I agreed with your comments. Tonight, you go and prove to have questionable taste Matt? MATT? Really? Why? On a semi-positive note, I am sure that he will be the next annointed contestant for Evil Website #1.

As for the show tonight, ~yawn~. The eliminations were predictable. Next week, the only question is whether Matt or Allison will be the next one to go.

what are you... 12? Seriously, "douchebag"? I really worry about the future of our country if our young people can't come up with better material.

Anyhow, I honestly don't give a * why he sounds like Darth Vader when he sings, I just know it's darn annoying. It was irresponsible for whoever produced his album to let that asthma gasp get through production. My mother called me after the washed up former Disco singer performed last night and said she thought she was going to drop dead during her performance. After listening to Archie try to talk to Ryan after just one song, I'm wondering at what point in his tour he'll keel over.

Allison doesn't have the following that she should have, given how powerful her voice is. She's been in the Bottom three times now. I'm not sure what the whole reason is, but I think part of it is her wardrobe. The AI wardrobe department has no clue how to dress a 16 year old girl.

The "washed up Disco singer" was actually no Disco singer at all.
What a bizarre choice. Out of all of the potential artists from the Disco era, they pick Freda Payne.
Disco was hot mainly from 1978-81. Here song wasn't even near that era.
It was written by Holland-Dozier-Holland under an assumed name due to contractural problems with Motown.
It made it to #3 on Billboard's charts in September 1970...eight years before Disco.
Strange!

I was surprised that Matt continued. His performance Tuesday was average, but, apparently many of his fans had gotten complacent and came back to support him.

This is a good Top 5. I think Matt goes next. Adam will be in the finals.
But who fills in the remaining 3 slots is up for grabs. Hard to tell who has the most votes so far, Danny or Kris, since neither has been in the bottom 3.
More than likely, Danny will get killed in the finals by Adam.

What was Thelma Houston wearing last night? She still has a voice on her though!!

I feel very bad for Allison; she just doesn't have a big enough fan base to stick around for very long. She is much better than Kris. I still believe that the producers want a female up to at least the final four, so she will be there for at least one more week.

Matt was very lucky, as Annop was better than he was Tuesday night. I think Simon's comments doomed Anoop. I can't help but wonder if Simon didn't do that deliberately.

I really liked the group performance, it was like 'so you think you can dance'.

Yes, Freda Payne murdered 'Band of Gold', I wondered what Simon was thinking while she was singing!
But Thelma Houston can still belt it out.
And where was K.C.'s Sunshine Band?
The 'biggest names in Disco' were pretty lame tonight, but they were hot 30 years ago.

I was sad to see Anoop go, I thought Matt and Lil should have gone.

my favs:
1- Adam
2- Danny
3- Allison, Kris
4- Matt

I picked Danny to sing "September" in the prediction contest! And I also picked "Hot Stuff" but by the wrong singer (I picked Adam, and it was Allison). So I got 3 points!
Also 'hugefan' picked Lil to sing 'i'm every woman'. I think those are the only correct ones.

But then I didn't get in my vote for part 2 for who would be voted off, which I thought would be Matt and Lil.
So I would have had 1 more point anyway, for Lil being in the bottom 3.
I'm so lame!

What was with Freda Payne? Band of Gold was out in 1970 almost a decade before Disco.

By the way, change your verification codes. They are nearly illegible. Takes my 3 or 4 tries to get it right.

~Ahem~

I had Matt singing "Stayin' Alive", albeit as a joke.

Even though Disco didn't get really hot until the mid to late 70's it was around in the early 70's--just was not widespread yet. The late 60's to early 80's was a time that I fondly remember--out dancing almost every week-end while Grandma baby sat. I remember when Band of Gold came out--what ever band was playing they always got at least one request for it every Saturday night!!!

Some of our best nights out were when a "new and upcoming group" was trying to break into the business in the mid 70's and we used to "pass the hat" around to get them to play longer than what they were booked for the night. Gosh they struggled, but they were all "locals" & we wanted them to make it in the music world. Some of us even saw the leader perform at Woodstock. Although they are well known for their folk music on those Saturday nights that still make me smile, Shenandoah played everything we asked- even disco.

I did overlook your correct choice for Matt - "Stayin Alive" , so I stand corrected. There were 3 of us who picked a singer with the correct song. (which is amazing!)

Shenova, I have always been for Matt. I was just being realistic last night. I am as surprised as the rest of you that he was safe. I really don't understand all the "hate" for him. He seems like a really decent guy who IMHO has a lot of talent. He is young and less experienced than some of the other contestants and did make some wrong song choices. I think he is beginning to realize he has to stick with R&B instead of Pop. You can't deny tho after seeing the group dance last night, Matt can move.

I can't really say that there is a lot of "hate" for Matt. This year's contestants all seem very likeable compared to other years. Who can forget Scott Soval(?) or Sanjaya

To forecast the finals, Adam Lambert probably will win the title, with Danny Gorkey coming in as runner up. Third up might be Kris, followed by Allison in fourth place and Matt in fifth.

I was actually an Anoop fan, and will miss seeing him perform.

As for the judges, could I add to what some others say, that Kara is very annoying and patronising toward the contestents. You know how she went on and on about Adam being brilliant, inspiring, and so on, accompanied by these funny facial expressions and gestures, which looked ludicrous.

american idol is not stupid. they'll give adam lambert a competition through their judging comments to others for they need to drag viewers till the entire season to watch. i realized how great adam is the moment he performed michael jackson's black or white. imagine others in the competition singing that --- they will all look lame, karaoke or trying hard copy-cats! lets face it detractors, adamazing!
