American Idol picks a Top 3

American Idol moved one step closer to the end of Season Eight, as we eliminated another Idol and picked a Top 3. With so many performances going on today, we're once again quickly into the action.

Host Ryan Seacrest tells us that they received over 64 million votes, the highest total ever outside of the finale. Then we're quickly off to the Ford Music Video, featuring paper version of the Top 4 singing "Move Along" while chasing after their car.

The group performance had the Top 4 singing "School's Out" with Slash on his band (and what I assumed was the rest of his band). Slash tells Ryan that last night worked out great. He likes seeing rock and roll being done on Idol. Ryan asks about his upcoming solo album. Slash says it is an awesome record with great singers on each track.

Ryan talks to the Top 4. He wants to know if they are getting used to this process. Danny Gokey says that this is the most tiring of all the days. Kris Allen says it's surreal being in the Top 4. Ryan asks Simon if the judges wanted him to start feeling like he should be here. Simon Cowell tells Ryan he has a good point. The judges don't want humble. Adam Lambert is thrilled that they got the Led Zeppelin song, a first on Idol. Ryan asks Danny about that last note. Danny tells us that the sound is drowned out when they are onstage, so he thought he nailed it. After listening to it, he couldn't stop laughing. Apparently his aunt hit mute, and he's heard that people are making ringtones with his scary scream.

It's good that he has a sense of humor about it. Allison Iraheta talks about talking back. She says she normally isn't the type of person who does it, but the judges were asking for it so she gave it to them.

Then we're treated to a clip of how awesome is Paula Abdul. Paula comes out to perform her single "I'm Just Here For the Music." It was playbacked, and no there were no disasters much to my chagrin. After the break, Ryan asks Paula why she is gracing the stage now after all these seasons. Paula says it's just the most happy place to be.

No Doubt are here as well to perform their hit single "Just a Girl." It's a very energetic performance and definitely not playbacked. Ryan asks them why they are touring now, without releasing a new album. Gwen Stefani says that it's her fault. After having babies, she didn't want to be home writing. She just wanted to get out and tour. In other words, her kids and Gavin are driving her nuts, my words not hers.

Finally we're on to some results. Ryan reminds us that the Top 3 go back to their hometowns to have parades and record lots of good footage for the show. We're shown some footage from past versions of the Top 3 going home. Ryan then calls all of the Top 4 out, giving them all their reviews before giving them their news. He then sends one person to safety - Kris Allen.

The next clip is a clip of how awesome is Chris Daughtry. Daughtry, the band, will release their second album in July, called "Leave This Town." They are here to debut the first single from the album, "No Surprise" on Idol. It's a pretty good song. Ryan points out that they didn't allow the Idols to play instruments when Chris was there. Chris says he was bummed about that. When he was eliminated, he felt like the world was coming to an end, but got over it in about 30 seconds.

The other Kris brings the band a plaque that signifies 5 million albums sold worldwide.

Finally we are down to the results. The next person into the Top 3 is Adam Lambert. That means either Allison Iraheta or Danny Gokey will be headed home, and not first class either. Danny is safe, Allison is headed home. Allison closes the show out with her performance of "Crybaby."

	Yea, an all male top 3......as it should be. 3 different styles. Hopefully the guys will get to sing 3 songs next week....the judges pick, Clive's and their own.

	Sorry, but not surprised, to see Allison go. Daughtry and No Doubt sounded good. I think this week's bonus question should be thrown out. I considered Paula's entire performance to be a disaster. Yes, it was playback (her lip-synching SUCKED!), she was in heels so stiletto that she couldn't even begin to dance and clearly missed LOTS of anything that resembled dance steps! Who told a 50-something woman who claims to have just kicked painkillers that she could walk, much less perform, in ridiculous heels in that most 20-somethings can't dance? Her only small success was that she didn't fall, and I'm not sure of that as it looked like she came down fast before the "crawling" part .

	well.. As expected it's an all-male final. I think Allison has nothing to be ashamed of.. She went as far as she can go and it's just the wrong season for her to be in. But She was very good and I like her, and she showed has a lot of potential. This is just the start for her.. And besides Miley wants to tour with her right! hahaha Danny and Kris for the Finals!!!

	I wanted the top 3 to be Adam, Danny, and Allison! After hearing Kris was safe, then I hoped it would be Adam, Danny, and Kris. Then I got scared to death wondering if Adam would be voted off! (thinking about Chris Daughtry being voted off) or even Danny! And I came very close to joining others who say they will quit watching American Idol if their fav singer is voted off. I'm so relieved Adam and Danny are in the top 3!! And I will sacrifice Allison for Kris. I loved "Rock" night!! And I especially loved the group performance with Slash and his band! And I loved being able to see Adam and Allison sing rock again! Everybody was great!! Paula's performance was good. And I guess she wouldn't be able to forget the words since it was playbacked. I don't like 'No Doubt', and thanks for the warning that they will be playing in Vegas.

	I was sorry to see Allison go, but she should feel very proud. She is so much more mature that Jordin Sparks.(not as talented though) If Allison had competed in any prior season she may even have been in the top two. If you want to predict who will be in the top two, ask yourself which combination will garner the most viewers: Adam and Kris, Adam and Danny or Kris and Danny? The producers are asking the same question.

	Frequent reader of this site, but never a poster. Love the reviews written here, by the way. I just want to say that lipsynching a performance prior to two performances that are not lipsynched is insulting to the subsequent performers. Gwen is a very active performer in her No Doubt alter-ego ("Just a Girl" looks quite different on stage than "The Sweet Escape."), and she was understandably out of breath. That's what a live, engaged live performance sounds like. Paula looked foolish compared to the other performances, expecting viewers to enjoy watching her fall behind the beat dancing while moving her mouth to a digitized recording of her voice.

	Allison should have stayed, Kris should have gone instead. I even suspected Danny was going to see the EXIT door after that horrible scream...it is what it is.

	disappointed to see Allison leave, really thought it should have been Danny. Kris did not shine this past week, but really don't like chosing (voting) based on one performance this late in the game. He has had some good performances (MO) this season and think he shows more versatality than Danny. Show has too much to lose to risk fixing results IMO.

	I heard that Paula has chosen Terrence Trent Darbys "Wishing Well" for Danny to sing this week. Anyone know whats up with that and what the others were given for judges pick?

	Im excited about tonight. Kris, Danny, and Adam..What a talanted top 3. Adam has got it..no doubt about it!

	I was very disappointed in the outcome of votes for danny gokey. He is a star. He has a phenomenal voice, and such a kind demeanor. I was shocked. He is truly an annointed man of God. The fact is God has another plan for his life, and he is destined for greatness. His countenance glows. My son and I were majorlly let down, and feel partly responsible for not having voted. We had to watch the episode by dvr, because of prior obligations, but definitely without a shadow of a doubt Voted for Danny.
