American Idol's Top 3 delivers on 300th show

The Top 3 on American Idol came through tonight, delivering a great show. Host Ryan Seacrest tells us that this is the show's 300th episode, making it extra special.

Paula Abdul's pick for Danny Gokey was "Dance Little Sister" by Terrance Trent D'Arby. She picked it because Danny has the same magical quality to his voice as Terrance. It was a good performance, very energetic. It was a great choice for Danny. Randy Jackson thinks it was dope and a great way to start the night. Kara DioGuardi liked that Paula picked it, but didn't like Danny's dancing. Paula says she liked the dancing and thought Danny did fantastic. Simon points out it's a singing show not a dancing show. He thinks the dancing was desperate, but the worst part was the sax solo.

In Arkansas, Kris Allen found out that Kara and Randy picked "Apologize" by One Republic. Randy likes the song's range. Kara thinks it's a dark and beautiful song that is open to interpretation. The performance is karaoke. He's totally missing the emotion of the song. Randy thinks Kris can sell millions with a song like this. Kara wanted him to change it up and make it his own. Paula thinks there was a very loud bum note, but is proud of him. Simon doesn't say anything about the perfomance, instead focusing on his fellow judges. Simon doesn't understand how Paula can point out a bum note and still be proud of Kris.

He then yells at Kara for picking a song then blaming Kris for doing that song. This leads to a lovely exchange between the judges that had me ready to scream. Honestly they all just need to grow up. Yes, Simon's right that Kara can't really complain if Kris sings the song that she picked for him. But is the live show really the place to take her to task for it?

Simon picked "One" by U2 for Adam. Simon had to get permission from the band. He got a call from Bono on Saturday who said it would be their pleasure to let Adam do the song. It was a good performance, but I'm not fond of the arrangement. Randy thinks he went off the melody too much for him, but thinks Adam is very talented. Kara tells Adam he proved he can take a song and do it in a completely different way. Paula thinks it was a brilliant song and a superb performance. Simon likes the song choice of course. He also thinks if Adam isn't in the finals it will be the biggest upset ever.

We're then treated to a plug for how awesome is American Idol for thinking of Idol Gives Back. Over the past two years they have raised over $140 million. Exxon sent Carrie Underwood to Angola and we get a clip of that.

Danny Gokey picked "You Are So Beautiful" by Joe Cocker to sing. I didn't like the beginning, but the middle and end is better. Randy liked the change in the arrangement. Kara tells Danny that the performance was stunning. Paula tells him that he left everyone breathless. Simon didn't think the song needed to be rearranged, but says that was a vocal masterclass.

Kris Allen picks "Heartless" by Kanye West to perform. He played the guitar with no other music. It was a good performance. Randy liked it better than the original. Kara wanted to know why he didn't do that with "Apologize." Kris answered that he didn't want to overdo it. Paula tells him that this is what keeps him relevant. Simon had written Kris out of the competition after the lame song choice earlier, but changed his opinion after that performance.

Adam Lambert picks "Cryin" for his performance. It was a great performance, with one exception. That background singer needs to be fired. Luckily she only had a couple of brief parts of the song to sing. Randy tells him to make a rock album because that's who he is. Kara calls it amazing. Paula doesn't think even Steven Tyler would have anything to say about that performance. Simon points out that while the other judges think it's a given that Adam will be in the finale, America still needs to vote for him and not assume he'll sail through.

My Rankings:
Adam's performance of "Cryin" earns him a perfect 10.
Adam's performance of "One" only gets him a 9 (don't like the song or U2).
Danny earns an 8.5 for "Dance Little Sister."
Kris' "Heartless" gets an 8.
Danny's "You Are So Beautiful" gets a 7.
Kris' performance of "Apologize" lands him on the bottom with a 5.

	Adam is AMAZING@! He is so talented and has entertained us all season. He has earned the Idol crown. Vote Adam@! I am also proud of Adam because I work for the VA and while Adam was home he went to Miramar to sing for the troops and their families. He also visited the kids at his high school drama and signing departments and went back to the performing arts center where he started performing. He is truly the most talented and should win American Idol Vote Adam!

	I now can't decide who should be in 2nd place! No doubt that Adam is number 1. Who do I want to hear sing 3 songs next Tuesday? Danny or Kris. I don't know. They are both good. 	Danny's second song "You are so beautiful" got a 10 from me; the best of the night. His first song "Dance little sister" got an 8. I have heard other contestants on other seasons sing this first song, e.g Taylor Hicks, but none even came close to matching his version. Kris's "Heartless" was a 9.5, his first song "Apologize" got 7 Adam's first song "One" got a 9.5 as well as "Crying." 	I have to say, while Adam is the most talented and should win, he is becoming a bit of a parody of himself. 1. Change melody and timing so song is barely recognizable 2. Use falsetto range to add alleged emotion 3. Stick out tongue and break into shriek on final syllable of verse's last word 4. Wash, rinse, repeat That list acutally looks way more skeptical than I intended, and I do really like the guy, but what happened to the performances like "Mad World?"

	I am so over Adam now - he is only a one trick pony with that screaming in every song. I am tired of looking at his tonsils. Danny is the one I would love to see win.

	Adam should be a given for the finals. That's been obvious for weeks. Who do we want to see compete head to head? As far as competition, Danny will at least make it interesting. I think Kris would look overwhelmed in that matchup. One thing to consider is who's fan base would move to who when they're gone. Kris' would probably support Adam. Danny's might mix it up. Either way, I think it will be the biggest blowout in the show's history, and they've had two in a row the last two seasons. don

"One" could have easily been stripped down to one instrument and a very clear voice, but then Adam would have sounded similar to Kris and Danny on that round. I may be the lone dissenter, but I didn't think that last night was Adam's best. He was too over the top on both songs. I loved his performance of "Whole Lotta Love" and thought that Slash was dead on in telling him to reduce the high range theatrics. 	Great performances by all three last night. All three of these guy's are very talented, and will make it big whether they win or not. Adam should win it. Like Simon said last night though, Dont just assume this..VOTE FOR HIM. He definetly deserves to win.

	Adam's "Cryin'" was a shoddy phone-it-in effort. He only gets away with stuff like that because he can sing the telephone book and make it sound good. The transitions weren't clean, and it was like the musical equivalent of throwing mud at the wall to see what sticks. On the other hand, "One" was a very good performance. I think he still had a little bit of musical ADHD with it, but it was good. Danny's first and second performances were decent, but not that great. Kris's first performance was ehh, but his second was very good -- it was probably the best performance of the night. I think Adam has the best voice, but isn't well-served by doing a pop-tinged rock record. His voice is made for wailing, like you'd find on a Judas Priest, Queensryche, or Skid Row record. Honestly, I think the judges and everyone else are doing him a tremendous disservice with the endless stream of effusive, blind (or should I type deaf?) praise. Danny I think has the vocal style most well-suited for the type of pop product that AI wants to produce, but he needs a bit more polish in his stage presence. Kris I think is the most radio ready of the three. He should be able to deliver infectious pop with style.

	With regards to "Whole Lotta Love" last week, I don't think that was Adam's best effort either. I found the performance ostentatious when there's nothing pretentious about that song or the lyric. It is a *****-to-the-wall rock song.
