American Idol heads for the finals

American Idol madness is coming to a close for the season as we found out who would be the Top 2 to perform next week.

To start off the madness tonight, we get Ben Stiller who is just my absolute favorite comedian and actor in the world (sorry was that too much sarcasm?).

Ben tells us that the American Idol desk is headed to the Smithsonian Museum. Other wonderful actors from the new Night At the Museum movie join him. Host Ryan Seacrest then tells us that indeed the desk is headed to the museum.

Ryan prepares us for heartbreak ahead, telling us that there were over 88 million votes with just 1 million separating the Top 2. Then we're off to the Ford Music Video featuring the Top 3 as comic book heroes of some sort while singing "Break My Stride."

If you thought the horror was over after Ben left, you were wrong. Alicia Keys comes, not to sing, but to tell us something very important. Even though we're not doing Idol Gives Back (by making the viewers feel guilty for having a house and food) this year, we still get a plea for money. Alica talks about Keep a Child Alive and tells us about Noah from Rwanda who wants to be a singer. Just hearing about him isn't enough of a guilt trip though, we have to be subjected to his performance of his song. They put an echo behind the song to hide the fact that he can't sing or rap. To give him credit though he only learned the song in English in a week.

Danny Gokey is up first with his video clip of his trip back to Milwaukee. It features lots of screaming girls. Ryan teases us by talking to him about his performance, but won't tell us the results yet. Then Kris Allen is up for his trip back to Arkansas. As I expected, many of his fans don't yet have to worry about acne. Again Ryan teases us but doesn't give us results.

Jordin Sparks returns perform her song "Battlefield" with Ryan from One Republic. It's a crappy song. I'm not sure if it's supposed to sound pitchy or if she just sucks. How did she win?

Adam Lambert comes out to share with us his experiences returning to San Diego. Ryan recaps Adam's performances before making us wait for the final result later.

Katie Perry hits the stage to sing "Waking Up in Vegas." Her cape says Adam Lambert. She's got a sort of Elvis Presley thing going on with her wardrobe.

Finally Ryan stops with the teasing and gets to the results. The first person into the finale is Kris Allen. That leaves either Danny or Adam going home tonight. Adam is on to the finals, Danny is headed home. So next week it comes down to the battle of the teenyboppers and the battle of the not-yet-teenyboppers. Who can text more? My money is on Adam's teenybopper fans.

The American Idol Prediction Contest will be updated with current point totals tomorrow. We will also be posting several bonus questions tomorrow that will be open for voting until Saturday afternoon.

	I'm so sad to see Danny go, He is still my american idol this season and I think he'll do great in his career... I'm rooting for Kris.. I believe he can score the upset of the year! I can't stand Adam Scream-O anymore.. I think I'll just mute the TV when it's his turn to sing lol

	I loved all three of these guys but truth is only Adam is the real deal. Kris has potential star quality with the right material. Danny is a great blue eyed soul singer but isn't one Michael Bolton enough? I predict no matter what Adam Lambert will be a Superstar the likes of which we haven't seen since Elvis Presley. He can do it all: CD's, Vegas, movies, concerts, TV sitcom, theatre, there's nothing this guy can't do! America you have discovered something that comes along once in a lifetime.....Adam Lambert!

	Danny has truly won. He doesn't need the glitz and glamor. I (wild guess!) think he'll front a Christian/gospel band. It'll be fantastic. I am dying to hear him perform MercyMe's 'I Can Only Imagine.' It would be brilliant. I thought it was so hilarious that the first people we see on Kris' trip home are the 8-12 year old girls. My reaction to my roommates: "Well, there's his fanbase." So true! Adam will probably win, and despite the fact that I want to hate him, he does seem humble and down-to-earth. His celebrated range, however, hides the fact that he doesn't have very great tonal quality. As a pure singer, Kris might even be better. I wonder which one of the (many) 20-ish guys we see each week is his bf..or maybe they all are. Haha. Curlio - your pre-teenybopper vs. teenybopper assessment is sooo right-on. Adam gets the gay vote though..

A couple of sources have reported that his vocals were used on a version of "Bohemian Rhapsody" that was used on "American's Best Dance Crew" a season or two ago. With all that he has done before AI, and all the exposure that he's had to the music industry in the past 5+ years, how did he not have a recording contract?

	people who voted for kris allen are young girls who do not know talent. Danny was more competition for adam now it will be a boring final. Ive been watching idol since day one and I have been right on the money with all the sucessfull top ten idols. I think there is something funny about americans voting remember they have picked some real duds. Kris will not be a big star sorry. Adam will be the only one with a lot of sucess. winning american idol is not always the road to being a big star. Like daughtry said he was stunned for about thirty seconds then realized he was going to be fine. Number 1 dud Taylor Hicks

	I used to want Adam and Danny in the final 2. After Tuesday night's performance I decided that Danny or Kris could be with Adam in the final 2. I'm soooo glad Adam made it into the final 2. He is the one I want to hear singing 3 songs next week. Kris is going to have a hard time keeping up. Adam is different and unique, no one else is like him! He deserves the title of "American Idol".

	Thank God that grotesque Taylor Hicks-look alike has been given the boot. The plump ugly beast always seeking for sympathy deserves to be given that boot. No one can stand his hideous dance and pot-bellied moves. And of course, the eering screeching worst than a rat when he disgraced the original singer of "Dream On". The church who supported him now lost. Now with the massive gays, lesbians and bisexuals combined to support Adam, Adam can take home the crown. As for Kris, he maybe cute and nice but then, Adam is the real deal for this crown....

	I can live with last night's results, even though I was hoping Danny would have joined Adam in the final. I just hope it is not as one-sided as the final two years ago was.

	The biggest surprise was that out of 88 million votes, Kris and Adam were only 1 million apart. That means the final will be much closer than a lot of people thought. Who will all of the Danny votes switch to? I agree, Jordin should never have won, but, once Melinda was eliminated, it was either her or Blake, who went way too far anyway.

	i hate when people say that adam lambert is a rocker. he's not. more the half the time he sounds like a girl or he's screeching at the top of his lungs. it drives me crazy when people say he's a rocker. can they really have forgotten one david cook or one chris daughtry so fast? those two were real rockers that actually sounded like the part as well.

That is a question hubby & I have been asking ourselves from the beginning!!! He has had so much exposure & nothing--no contract etc. Are we missing something here?? Other contestants have had some exposure prior to Adam, but nothing like what he has had. Will be very interesting to see how he does in the next year or two. Although I think that Adam is an incredibly talented young man, I am rooting for Kris next week. Not a teeny bopper nor one that ever screamed when I saw someone I liked, just a senior citizen who still attends concerts several times a year. Don't stick to just one type of music either--we just go to whoever we know will entertain us.

You obviously think only bands like The Fray and Daughtry are rock music. Rock music has as many different branches as Classical does. Adam may not fit your tight and narrow view of rock, but he fits the bill for many others. You've never heard of nifty little bands like Queen and Aerosmith have you? Adam could easily front a reunited Queen and Freddie would be beaming with pride (and if the rumors are true more than one form of pride).

	I think Adam's sweet spot is really hard rock or metal. I thought his version of Whole Lotta Love on the show last week was the musical equivalent of ADHD, but the studio version is very, very good. I think if he took his musical ritalin and did a metal ballad like "I Remember You" by Skid Row, he'd kill any glimmer of hope Kris had of getting the title.

This has been said many times before, yet I have been quite surprised that few of the AI finalists have had any notable success as Contemporary Christian or Gospel artists. Both Melinda Doolittle and George Huff have guest starred for Michael W. Smith's Christmas Concerts the past two years. Melinda has the to-die-for voice that we all remember, and virtually no stage presence. She acts just as happy being in the background. George has all the stage presence in the world but his voice just ain't there...he'd make a great local performer but not worthy of national reknown. To me, seeing these two in person begged the question of whether there's just ~SOMETHING~ missing from many performers that land on AI, and that is why they didn't have an existing recording contract.
