American Idol's Final Two give it their all

The final two on American Idol gave it their all in their last attempt to win the hearts of the American public. The rounds were too close to call an easy winner, but no matter what Adam and Kris will be stars.

Host Ryan Seacrest tells us what we already knew. Kris Allen won the coin toss and opted to perform second. Each contestant will sing three songs, one pick of their own, one pick by show creator Simon Fuller and the winner's song co-written by Kara DioGuardi. He also warns those who are TiVo'ing the show to set it to record over tomorrow as they expect to run long, though quite frankly you should already know that and have had your DVR set to record at least 15 minutes over for most of the season.

Just a side thought here: What is up with that awful shirt and tie combo that Randy was wearing? It looked like Scott MacIntyre dressed him. No, sorry that's an insult to Scott, he's never even been dressed that badly.

Adam Lambert is up first. We're treated to a clip of what Adam was like as a baby. According to his parents Adam didn't sleep through the night until he was 18 months old. Adam says he was very talkative and hyperactive. Adam picks "Mad World" to sing again and again it's wonderful. Randy Jackson loves that Adam is showing his sensitive side. He gives Adam an A+. Kara DioGuardi is happy he picked that one because she knew he was an extraordinary singer and incredible artist the first time he did it. Paula Abdul is just so proud that he's standing there. Simon Cowell always thought this was Adam's best performance, but isn't too fond of it tonight. He calls it overly theatrical with the long coat. He was reminded of Phantom of the Opera.

Kris Allen tells us that he didn't like to sing in front of his family when he was young. As a matter of fact, his family had to pay him to sing. Now his mother gets coupons for performances which she loves. Kris chooses "Ain't No Sunshine." Randy likes that he can tell what kind of artist Kris is and what kind of record he will make. Yeah, 'cause you totally can't tell that about Adam. Kara says that if we're not moved by Kris' performances then there is something wrong with us. Thanks for insulting half the audience Kara, way to get people to like you. Kara goes on to rant about the intimate bond Kris creates with everyone in the audience. Paula tells Kris that he awakens the spirit in all of us. Simon wasn't sure America made the right choice last week, but takes that back now.

Simon gives Round One to Kris.

Simon Fuller's pick for Adam is "Change is Gonna Come." It was another awesome performance by Adam and a great pick by Simon Fuller. Randy tells us that Adam showed the real reason he's here is because he can sing. Really, someone who can sing is in a singing competition? Get Out! Kara calls it Adam's best performance and interpretation since the beginning of the show. Paula thinks that is the best she has ever heard Adam sing. She thinks Adam will be iconic no matter what. Simon tells him that he is 100% back in the game. Was he ever really out of it?

For Kris, Simon F. picks "What's Going On." It was a good performance, but I didn't like his interpretation of it. Randy tells us we have a competition going on. Really? We weren't just all doing this for fun? He thought that the performance was a little light for this point in the competition. Kara likes that Kris has been true to himself from day one and hasn't played to the competition. She also thinks that Kris can deliver that message and make people feel and change. Paula tells him he tore the song up. Simon loved the song, but compared it to three friends singing Marvin Gaye in their bedroom. He agrees with Randy that it was just too light for a night like this.

Round Two in Simon's opinion goes to Adam. Let me guess, Round three will be too close to call?

The winner's single, co-written by Kara, is "No Boundaries." Adam is up first with his version of it. He does the best with the manure he's been given but it's a crappy song. Let's face it you can't do much with manure. It makes "Do I Make You Proud" look excellent by comparison. Randy said it was pitchy and not one of his favorite performances. Kara thinks it's amazing when someone of Adam's talent sings their songs. Paula can't express what Adam has brought to the show. Simon clearly doesn't like the song, saying he's going to judge Adam and not the song. He calls Adam one of the best and most original contestants ever. Simon says that the whole point of the show is to find a worldwide star and that they found that with Adam.

Kris comes out with his version of the piece of crap song "No Boundaries." His version was way pitchier than Adam's was, but all the judges make excuses for him. Randy tells him to be proud for what he has done. He thinks the key was too high and Kris couldn't hear himself. Kara agrees it was too high for Kris, but congratulates Kris on an incredible season. Paula thinks this has been one of the most compelling finales. Simon tells us that the highlight for Kris was the first song. He also likes seeing how far Kris has come since his first audition.

Carrie Underwood closes out the show with "Home Sweet Home."

Okay, since Kara wrote the song, why couldn't she work with Adam and Kris to make the song a bit more suited for each of them? Change the key a bit or the tempo or something for each of them.

My Rankings:
Adam's performance of "Mad World" and Kris' "Ain't No Sunshine" each earn 10 points from round one.
Adam's "Change is Gonna Come" from round two also earns a 10.
Kris' "What's Going On" earns him a 9.
Adam's version of "No Boundaries" gets a 2, 'cause you can't do much with manure.
Kris' version of "No Boundaries" gets a 1 because he can do even less with manure.

	I still think that Adam should win.. He's such a talented artist and has a great voice. Kris is also good but I think Adam would have more potential.. Just my opinion though

	next season, you'll see lots of new kris-level-like contestants. adam is a rare talent, i hope america will crown the most deserving one.

No, sorry that's an insult to Scott, he's never even been dressed that badly." We thought he looked as though he got dressed out of the Salvation Army store. I cannot believe that anyone who has lived in the US for more than a year and who has vision and mobility would ever choose to wear that on national TV. My husband's comment on Kris, "Looks like there will be another special guest star for Michael W. Smith's Christmas Concert."

	Kara's song was sooo awful. What a terrible way to end a fabulous season. Neither Adam nor Kris could sing it. Both were wonderful otherwise, but I give Adam the edge because he's been so consistently good. Go Adam!

	OLA everybody !!! Way too long and no see, no hear, no read !!! So sure most of u'v forgotten moi, but today ain't about me, its about 'em rock-tastic performers at AI '09. K, lets deal with it, Adam is great. No i mean like seriously great. I mean like , "No, you don't get it;;;; he's freakin GAWD!!!" Kris is like, "Mommy, Adam may be GAWD, but can I play the prophet....." He tries so hard to convince people into believing his song. Not that I'm saying he's a bad singer or anything ( I don't believe in hypocrocy :), I suck, so to me no one can be truly BAD. heck my name on the site is zayralover, and all you guys n gals remember that CHARACTER. Curlio is right on one thing though....... that last song was garbage. I think I remember one time some guy in our school composed some crappy song for our school fest, but I must say, the human race can soar right up to the high heavens only to fall flat on his/her collective @$$. That song is aspiring to top the razzy's as worst song of the year award. HANDS DOWN. EEEEKS !!!! And with EL CRAPPO, there were equally EL CRAPPO musical performances...... Adam sucked and Kris sucked more. Only people with IQ's below 100 should have difficulty selecting the winner........ Oh and did anyone realise the travesty that has befallen here on AI....... It's official, Adam has now turned from Goth-GAWD to POCK-GAWD (yeah thats pop n rock combined. Stupid but apt). Why does Adam have to wear a suit that looks like he took it frm Ryan Seacrest's wadrobe ...... hmmm ...... spooky. And HOW IN GAWDS FRE@KIN name can someone be shorter than Ryan Seacrest. I 1st thoght, "Heaven's halp! It can't be.... NO WAY." But I saw it again. KRIS is shorter than RYAN SEACREST. Will the mortification never cease sometimes !!! Anyways gald to finally write on this site. Curlio, you know you always have my respect. 	How good was Adam's version of "Change is gonna come?"One of the best I have ever heard. Give credit to the producers, this year's final was one of closest, and of the highest standards in a long time. Adam will win tonight.

	Neither clearly was allowed to change the arrangement of Boundaries since they wanted to release it as a single. Big disadvantage for Kris. First having to follow Adam doing the same song, second having to do the same arrangement. He's bound to pale in comparision. Had they been allowed to re-arrange it, I'm sure each would have done it a lot differently. Bad song either way. Obviously written generically for whomever the top 2 were. Need to go back to having two songs for the final two. Kris held his own with "Ain't No Sunshine," but was outdone the rest of the show. I still think its going to be a 20 million + blowout for Adam, but wonder if it might be closer since last week, the two were separated by just a million votes out of 88 million. Plus, it seems that many of Danny's followers would relate to Chris with both having similar backgrounds as church worship leaders. Still think a blowout. don

	I can't agree with you Don that it will be a blowout. Kris has made it this far partly because of his fan base. I think it will be a very close vote. I agree Kris held his own last night, particulary with the first song, and he has not lost the support of all those fans who voted for him in the early rounds.

	I'm pulling for Kris because he's is a better fit for the Idol machine, and would make a good pop record. Adam has the chops to make a very good "pop metal" record, ala Skid Row. I don't think he has the screaming-on-pitch thing in Bach's league, but that could come with mentoring.

Although I voted for Kris (to late though) because I think that he represents an AI more than Adam, I can not think of anything negative about Adam. He is an incredible talented young man with amazing vocal ability. From his professional history he has had to have been observed many times by members of the music industry. What is it that has kept anyone from signing him??? Not a clue.

	Wow. America's gotten against the conventional wisdom two years in a row now. I think Kris is a better fit for the idol model, while Adam would be an AWESOME Vegas headliner (which isn't the bad thing it used to be).
