American Idol names their Season 8 winner

American Idol named their Season 8 winner after a two hour show packed with music.

Host Ryan Seacrest tells us that they received just under 100 million votes last night, bringing the Season 8 total to 624 million votes. Then we're treated to funny clips of the judges. For Randy Jackson, it featured him doing his "for me for you" thing. Kara DioGuardi's clip had a bunch of "honey" and "sweetie" while giving bad news. Paula Abdul showed off her massive vocabulary. Simon Cowell's clip showed him needing a hearing aid.

Ryan then tries to talk to Adam Lambert and Kris Allen, but their mics aren't wired for TV, just the live audience. He throws it to Mikalah Gordon in Kris' hometown of Conway, Arkansas, then over to Carly Smithson in San Diego, California, Adam's hometown.

The Top 13 all return to perform "So What." It's the best I've heard them sing together, they must have had some mics turned down. Lil Rounds was a bit off key for her little solo part.

David Cook returns to sing "Permanent" which is his newest single. It's a pretty nifty single, should do well. Kara definitely didn't write that one. Ryan mentions that it's been a rough couple of weeks for David and that song must have been hard to sing. David says it was, but he wanted to honor his brother and everyone else that deals with similar things. He then tells us that all proceeds from the iTunes sale of the performance will go to charity.

Ryan is ready to award his first Golden Idol for Outstanding Male. The nominees are Wil Kunich, Michael Gurr, Elijah Scarlet, Dean-Anthony Bradford and Nick Mitchell aka Norman Gentle. Naturally Norman wins. He comes up in a sweat suit, says he wasn't prepared for this.

After thanking a few people, he says "Hit It" then strips to reveal the Norman outfit. He sings "You're Gonna Love Me." I would so go see his comedy show.

The first duet of the night is Lil Rounds and Queen Latifah singing "Cue the Rain." Lil still can't hit notes. She and Queen Latifah do not sound good together. I don't like the song either. Hopefully this will be the last we'll see of Lil.

The next celebrity performance featured Anoop DeSai, Alexis Grace and Jason Mraz. It was pretty good, except for the fact that Alexis sucks. They are joined by more of the Top 13 at the end.

A clip of Kris Allen's journey to the finals is followed by a duet of Kris and Keith Urban. I can completely see Kris doing this genre. Kris and Keith sound great together.

he girls of American Idol come out to torture us with "Glamorous" before introducing Fergie to sing "Personal" with them. Megan Joy Corkrey sucks. What did Fergie do to her hair? Then the Black Eyed Peas come out to sing "Boom Boom Pow." There's a technical glitch that takes us to an American Idol logo while they are performing for a couple of seconds.

The next Golden Idol was for Best Attitude. The nominees are Katrina Darrell aka Bikini Girl, Alexis Cohen and Tiffany Shedd. Bikini Girl wins of course and comes out in a tiny bikini. She kisses Ryan, and notes that he kissed back this time. Ryan tells her he was going to ask what's new, but he thinks he knows. He's referring to her boob job. She sings "Vision of Love" and is joined by Kara. She flashes Kara a nasty look as Kara outsings her. At the end, Kara rips her dress open. Apparently the judges bet her she wouldn't. Since she did they're donating money to her favorite charity.

Allison Iraheta and Cyndi Lauper team up for a wonderful version of "Time After Time." They sound really amazing together.

Ryan talks to Kris' parents. Mom says she kinda forgot what they were doing there as they were having so much fun. Dad thinks that both Kris and Adam are fantastic. Adam's parents are nervous but proud.

Danny Gokey comes out to sing "Hello." He then introduces Lionel Richie as the two do a medley of Lionel's songs. They sound great together too. The producers have picked some awesome duets this year.

A clip of Adam Lambert's journey to the finals is followed him singing "Beth." A scream erupts here as I realize this means a KISS duet! He then introduces Kiss to perform a medley of their hits. WOW that was the most amazing duet ever. What a huge surprise. The crowd clearly doesn't know how to clap along to "Rock and Roll All Night."

Carlos Santana comes onstage to perform "Black Magic Woman" with Matt Giraud. This leads to all the Idols coming out to sing "Smooth" with Carlos. It's another great celebrity/Idol performance.

The final Ford Music features Kris and Adam singing "I Will Remember You." They show clips of the past commercials. David Cook surprises Kris and Adam with keys to their new Ford Fusion Hybrids.

Megan Joy Corkrey, Michael Sarver and Steve Martin join up for a performance of "Pretty Flowers." I knew there had to be an end to the good performances at some point. Michael sounds good, but Megan just completely sucks. She's even messing up the words and is only saved by Michael.

The American Idol guys come out to perform "Do Ya Think I'm Sexy" then introduce Rod Stewart.

The last Golden Idol is for Outstanding Female. The nominees are Chelsea Marquardt, Irene Anguelova, Dana Moreno and Tatiana Nicole Del Toro. Tatiana wins of course. Ryan tries to tell her they are running short and need to go to break. She comes up anyhow, takes her award and sings "Saving All My Love" without music as security tries to round her up. They finish by simply going to the commercial.

Kris and Adam team up to sing "We Are the Champions." Once again screams erupt as I realize that Queen is coming out. They are also joined by the remaining Top 13 on background vocals. The amazing collaborations continue. This is was the perfect song to end with before the results.

Simon tells Kris and Adam that they were both brilliant as well as incredibly nice people. He thinks they should both be proud of what they achieved. Ryan then tells us that Kris is the new American Idol. He is presented with a winner's trophy.

I'm quite pleased with the result. Kris is a good singer too. I've been rooting for Adam for most of the season, but didn't want him to win. I didn't want him stuck with that piece of crap single.

Now for the final result of our Prediction contest! We have a surprising result there too.

	A few ramblings - The entire production crew should be fired. This finale was plagued throughout by mics that were not on at the right time and cutting to the wrong camera, with the most awful example being the several second cutaway from the excellent Black-Eyed Peas number. How could Lil Rounds have sounded good during auditions and early rounds and then crash and burn so badly as the show progressed? Who thought this was a good idea? Danny Gokey singing "Hello"...yeah, he just clearly showed that, vocally, he's no David Cook. At least he was paired with Lionel Richie, with whom he sounded good and is an inept a dancer as Danny. The director wisely chose not to do any closeups of either of them performing. No, I will not pay money to see Gokey perform. Did anyone else notice how much Lionel's black long coat looked like what Adam was wearing last night? Kris Allen did sound good with Keith Urban. I can see him moving to Nashville if he doesn't strike gold in the stylings of 19E. Black-Eyed Peas, WOW! Good God! What has happened to Rod Stewart, and why didn't they keep him from performing when he showed up that drunk/stoned? Then again, this is the show that has had an impaired judge for several years. He's put on, like, 40lbs in the past year?!? HORRID! "I've been rooting for Adam for most of the season, but didn't want him to win. I didn't want him stuck with that piece of crap single." I cannot begin to tell you how many times I have read that exact sentiment on blogs over the past 24 hours. I have to wonder if Adam supporters heard the awful coronation song last night and said "forget voting, we can't do that to him." So Kris got the title, the money, and is now saddled with the crappy single. Adam got to sing with not one but two Rock God bands, one which is a Rock and Roll Hall of Fame legend. I quote myself from last Saturday: "Adam - he said that his dream duet would be David Bowie. It ain't going to happen as Bowie won't lower himself. The obvious heavyweight option - Queen" I just rewatched the duet with Queen. Watch it and keep your eyes on Brian May. When Kris finishes his solo, Brian catches his eye and gives him a head nod as if to say "good job". During Adam's solo, Brian shakes his head as if say "wow" when Adam goes into his higher range. It will be interesting to see what Brian says on his "Soapbox" (blog). Did anyone else notice that Paul Rogers and Queen announced that they were parting ways last Friday? Anyone want to bet double or nothing as to who will be doing some touring with Queen after his commitment to "Idols Live" and 19E are over? Last comment - reports are now circulating from EW that 38 out of 100 million votes were from Arkansas. 	Short kid with 7th grade mustache who duet-ed with Keith Urban beats mad skills dude who duet-ed with KISS? Ehh, Kris will always be tagged as the 'American Idol', whereas Glambert will probably start a glam band or something and sell a bajillion records (or illegal downloads). I honestly think Adam has more staying power. Give Kris a year or two, people will forget him. He's got skills, just not mad skills. Duet with Keith Urban > Duet with KISS. All of Adam's fans were probably watching 'Glee' anyway.

	I was sad Adam didn't win, but the show was the best!! And I'm glad Adam was in the final 2 so that we could have some great rock performances! I loved seeing Nick/Norman, he's still the funniest ever! I figured they would bring back bikini girl, and Tatiana. Kara should have performed the whole thing in her bikini. Yes, Kris can have that single. No one will ever remember it. Adam was the star the whole night... winner or not.

	Adam was by far the better one, but America votes for the underdog all the time, AI will benefit from both Adam and Kris. Kris will be around for one year then be forgotten like the girl who won and can not-Fantasia, sorry for that Kris is way way better then that. As for Adam the talent he has just WOW-WOW, would love to see Adam in a duet with U2 and also a duet with Chris Daughtry, they could sound amazing, put in a word Curlio- it will happen for Adam he will be around and sell lots and lots,

	WAH !!! ..... boohoo ..... There was a competiton and i didn't know abt it. !!!!!! (Sniffles) Anyways, so Kris won ........ He won ...... Him .... Il ...... Sigh ...... !!! Although everyone is pretty much in agreement here that Kris has amazing talent and blah blah blah, I beg to ask the question " DID AMERICA GET IT RIGHT?!?!? ". I mean Kris is gud, like "yeah i can see me buying his single" gud, but Adam is, on a different level of spectacular, he's , wats the word; FANTABULOUS !!! Oh well, another season's over .... horray ;( ..... That judges clip thingy was funny. The idol reunion was cheesy but nice The "idol singing with their idol" shenanigan was ho-hum - some were spot on, and some made me remember my cousin who cant sing. Queen LAtifa has gained weight. Boy should she take a tour to fat camp. Just goes to show you the power of fast food !!! I'd love to agree with WINONA17 that Adam is a winner, hands down, even though he's runner's up. And it was nice that Kris agreed that Adam deserved to be AI '09. AND WTF !!!???!?!?!?!! A trophy ?!!?!?!? LOL!! I didn't know AI was like some school "I wonna be ( a wonnabe) rockstar" compettion. Hyok Hyok Hyok. Now I know wat to get my tone-deaf "cannot sing even if his life depended on it" CUZ on his bday. A prize saying "best singer of the millenium".... Will he be happy!!! !!!! 	I thoroughly enjoyed last night's show, even though I picked Adam to win. We shouldn't worry about him, his future success is assured. I thought he whole act with Tatiana was staged, and very well done. Did anyone else get that impression?

	I'm sorry, but the comment about Rod Stewart is borne of pure ignorance. I suggest you look up his personal history before you go slamming him. Dude had to relearn how to sing after a bout with thyroid cancer. I think its a bloody miracle that he can sing well enough to perform live. With Idol's recent audiences skewing older and with a greater appreciation of rock, I have to wonder how many of the previous castoffs would have won. I think Daughtry is a given, but could Bo (or even Constantine) have beaten Carrie.

I concede your point because I didn't know that Rod had had cancer. I will stand on that I think he returned too soon, or the planners should have let him just enter under the arch and not try to walk down the steps, and done everything else possible to conserve his energy and presented him in the best possible light.
