Top 16 performs on So You Think You Can Dance

The Top 16 dancers on So You Think You Can Dance performed last night for the judges. While it wasn't as impressive overall as previous weeks, the talent of the dancers is incredibly high this year.

Host Cat Deeley talks to the judges before we start the dancing. First Toni Basil tells us that she is getting a Living Legend of Hip Hop Award. Mary Murphy thinks that this group of dancers is better and bigger than ever. Nigel Lythgoe can't really tell yet who exactly will be in the top ten couples, as everyone is still improving.

Tonight clips feature the dancers telling us what they would be if they weren't dancing.

The first couple up are Karla and Jonathan. Karla would be a journalist while Jonathan would be in the cirus as he loves jumping around. For tonight's dance they worked with Dave Scott on Hip Hop, dancing to "By My Side" by Jadakiss. I didn't really buy them as Hip Hop dancers. They were very disappointing this week.

Next up were Vitolio and Asuka. Asuka would be making jewelry if she couldn't dance. Vitolio would be the lead singer in a band. They worked on a Thrash Rocker Jazz routine with Mandy Moore. They danced to "Heartbreaker" by Pat Benetar. I wasn't wild about this performance. I'm not sure if it was the choreography I disliked or if it was their dancing that made me not like the choreography.

If they weren't dancers, Melissa would have been a pilates teacher. Ade would be a sound engineer. For their dance, they picked a Rumba choreographed by Tony Meredith. They danced to "Emotion" by Destiny's Child. Melissa's dress looked amazing. The dance was great, but I'm afraid it wasn't anything too memorable in the long run. The dress was definitely memorable though.

Brandon would be a lighting and design person if he couldn't dance, while Janette would be processing loans. She's about a year away from her degree. The couple danced Hip Hop choreographed by Dave Scott, dancing to "What A World" by Common. The theme was that she was a rocker, while he was Hip Hop eventually meshing their styles. Brandon looked completely natural as a Hip Hopper. They were amazing together.

Next up were Kupono and Kayla. Kayla would be a model if she wasn't dancing, while Kupono would be a costume designer. The new couple would be working with Jean-Marc Genereux on a Viennese Waltz. They danced to "Sweet Dreams for You" by Jewel. The dance was very beautiful. They both had the posture down perfect. The only thing that annoyed me was the complaint about Kupono not wearing shoes and therefore not being able to do one of the Waltz moves properly. He wasn't wearing shoes because the whole theme was that it a dream. Who wears shoes in dreams?

Randi is in school to be a teacher, specifically a special-ed teacher. Evan would own a custom car shop if he wasn't a dancer. For their dance tonight they landed Mia Michaels. Mia's idea is for the dance to center around Randi's butt. Evan is supposed to be hypnotized by Randi's butt. They danced to "Koop Island Blues" by Koop. The dance was everything a Mia Michaels routine should be. It was weird and wonderful. It was definitely the one dance I remembered in the morning!

If he wasn't a dancer, Jason would be playing soccer. Caitlin would be a journalist. Jean-Marc Genereux and his wife France choreographed a Paso-Doble for Caitlin and Jason. They danced to "O'Fortuna (from Carmina Burana)" by Mozarteum Orchestra Salzburg and Kurt Prestel. I didn't really feel the passion of the love-hate relationship that is necessary for the dance.

Last up were Phillip & Janine. Phillip would be an inventor if he couldn't dance. Janine would be an actress. They worked with Tyce DiOrio on a Broadway routine. They danced to "Moses" from the Singin in the Rain soundtrack. The dance was fun, but beyond Phillip jumping the couch there was nothing memorable. Oh, and Phillip ripping his pants was cute too.

I would put Karla & Jonathan, Vitolio & Asuka, and Jason & Caitlin in the bottom three.

	My favorite dancers are: Jeanine and Phillip, Janette and Brandon, Randi and Evan, Kayla and Kupono. I don't know how long Phillip will stay in, but I hope it will be a lot longer.
