Simon Cowell really leaving American Idol?

According to the statements that Simon Cowell has made: Yes.

He said it would have been difficult for him to do both shows. While he makes a reported $36 million a year to be on "American Idol," he owns "The X Factor" and could make much more if the show takes off.

Cowell and top Fox executives made the announcement to reporters in Pasadena at a meeting of the Television Critics Association; they said they had reached an agreement only a few hours before.

"I was offered a lot of money to stay on," Cowell said. "But that wasn't the reason behind it. I wanted to do something different. I wanted a new challenge."

Of course the full article goes into the future of American Idol and they have asked an analyst, Shari Anne Brill of Carat USA for her opinions. Her brilliant logic says that American Idol will lose some of it's fan base, but will do fine without Simon.

I, as the non-analyst expert, say that the show will actually quickly fade away unless they find another sarcastic judge to replace Simon. For example might I suggest: Piers Morgan.

	I respect Simon for his decision. If it was all about money, he could stay and get a boatload. It's rumored that the latest offer from AI was 9 digits, that's how important he is to them. But he wants a new challenge and I respect that. That said, I won't watch the show without him. He makes American Idol.
