Will the next International Idol show be the final battleground for "Obnoxious Supremacy"?
Canadian Idol judge Jack Werner made seemingly contradictory statements in a recent interview. On the one hand, he is NOTHING like that 'low-class' Simon...then again on the other hand...
"He took some inappropriate shots at me to the press," Werner tells the Sun. "But I would have done the same thing if I had as little class as he does. He had the final word, so he used it. He's a political animal."
"He didn't invent that character," Werner says of Cowell. "The sardonic, vicious critic is the same guy who was holding the hook in Vaudeville. This character has existed forever. I'm not saying I'm playing a character but they wanted someone with my personality who fits (that character).
Werner goes on to say how Canadian Idol does not take pleasure in showing the really bad contestants that American Idol seems to (and scratches his head in dismay regarding William Hung). This, however, seems to contradict what was actually aired for the first episode of Canadian Idol 2004.
Canadian Idol may not have had Scat Girl...but we had the Green Lantern singing a freaky version of Hot Stuff complete with 'drunk-at-last-call' disco moves. Producers also feature some of the more tone-deaf contestants in their "coming up in our next show" promos.
Zack seems to be suffering from chronic 'selective' vision.
Canadian Idol Sucks. The judges are all trying to get as much air time for themselves as possible, I think they think the contest is all about them and how endearing they can be to the audience. We've got the black judge (aka the good judge), the mean white judge (poor imitation on Simon Cowel) and the "air head" flirty female judge who seems to fall in lust with just about any male singer. Overall a very poor imitation of the American Idol show.
Hmmm... I find it funny that you call it an imitation of American Idol, while American Idol is an imitation of the UK's Pop Idol... which all the "Idol" shows are based upon. :P

Yeah but the difference is that American Idol is actually a good imitation of UK Pop Idol that is actually better than the original, Simon said it himself. Canadian Idol is just a cheap rip-off with less talented singers.
Lol that is also true too. I've never seen Canadian Idol, so it wouldn't be right for me to make any comments about it. I've seen some Pop Idol, on those "behind the scenes of American Idol" shows or w/e that goes back and looks at Pop Idol... and yea, I agree with you and with what Simon said about the show.
Oh well, I guess every country deserves their own version of the show.

Hmmm..I don;t agree with that at all. I mean, there are BIG differences between the shows...but Lack of talent is not one of them.
There isn't a giant cookie cutter at work so much in Canadian Idol (although I do agree that there are some restrictions on musical genres that would get in) as I felt there was in American Idol. Simon telling perfectly healthy girls (but not guys ... even the ones who are dangerously UNhealthy, like Reuben!) they have to lose weight is not a positive attribute to American Idol either. Canadian Idol focuses less on these ideals of aesthetics.
Anyhoo, Rellybois...you don't have to watch it, do you? You can wait until next year's AI comes back on....
For a picture of "the Green Lantern" disco mama... visit the Canadian Idol website that is featuring a pic of her on the front page (well they are tonight).
I think Canandian Idol is a really good show. I enjoyed Ryan Malcom's singing much more that Ruben Studdard's last year. At least Ryan was not afraid to try something different. I find that Canadian Idol offers a much wider variety of song choices with singers who are not afraid to try something different. I do agree that Simon is in a league of his own, but I value his opinion as I am sure the contestants do.
Rellybois said: "Canadian Idol is a cheap rip-off with less talented singers." Really! Let's get past the first few shows before we pass judgement. Even American Idol has improved since it's first show. Canada does have talent if you take time to think about it- Shaunia Twain, Brian Adams, Celine Dion and Sara McLaughlan to name a few. The Canadian population is a percentage of the United States so one would assume that we might not have as much talent. Give the singers a chance to perform and then judge. Anyway as Starfishy said, you don't have to watch it if you have such a low opinion of it.
I do not think it is necessary to be cruel when evaluating a performer, meaness in any form is not acceptable to me . As a result I probably will find something to watch that doesnt make me feel unhapppy that someone is being made to feel terrible, life is too short. sara

So...just to clarify...
You want Candians in general to be more mean? Or people on this board to be more mean? and what do you want us to be mean about?
Canadian talent? When you listed those singers, I though at first that you were being sarcastic. Do all Canadians throw the word 'talent' around so loosely?
Hey...we can't all be the country that gives the world the likes of William Hung and BRittney Spears du jour.... SOMEONE has to create music that is more than just a synthesizer, a pair of push-ups and a couple dancers in the background!
