American Idol has predictable results curlio
 2005-03-03 03:16:27
Misc. The results of American Idol were brief and predictable. The show was shortened to a mere 30 minutes this week, for some unexplained reason. I'm wondering if Fox learned their lesson after fans of the show bashed the producers' humiliating way of eliminating contestants last week. Approximately 42 million people voted for their favorites on American Idol this week.

Up first was a talk with the judges, Randy Jackson, Paula Abdul, and Simon Cowell. They all seemed to echo the same thoughts - that it's about singing a song well, regardless of anything else. Ryan Seacrest talked to Simon about country music. Simon said that it's like every other genre, there are bad songs and good songs.

Celena Rae was the first person to be eliminated. She had the lowest votes of the girls. Ryan talked to her, and apparently she nailed the song in dress rehearsal. Randy and Paula told her to keep trying and going forward.

Ryan then talked to the girls again. Nadia Turner said she was just nervous when she failed that last note. Then it was time for either Aloha Mischeaux or Vonzell Solomon to leave the show. Ryan said that Aloha had to change her song at the last minute. It seemed to be because they couldn't get a release for the song she wanted to do. Unfortunately that weighed against her too much, and she was voted off. The judges agreed that she shouldn't be leaving the show, as she sang better than some of the other contestants. I presume they were at the very least talking about Janay Castine - who was very relieved to not be going home.

Then we moved on to a very quick elimination of the guys. As the guys had the most humiliating elimination last week, I think this was deliberately done. Joseph Murena, David Brown, Mario Vazquez, and Travis Tucker were told to come stand on either side of Ryan. At this point, you had to know it wouldn't be Mario leaving. He's got legions of young, mostly female, fans voting for him. To be honest, I think he should keep his hats on though, as I really didn't think his hair was all that flattering. Sure enough, he was the first to be told he was safe. I was hoping Travis would be safe next, as he's a pretty good singer, and becoming one of my favorites. Luckily for all of his fans, he was indeed safe. That meant that Joseph and David would be going home this week. Joseph it turned out had the lowest number of votes. He attributed this to lack of airtime. I think that is partially right, but he picked very bad songs and just didn't do anything too memorable in the last two weeks. Great performances can overcome lack of airtime. The problem comes when people who have worse performances get to stay, and I don't think that happened in his case. David was told by Paula that he just lacked that magical spark that was in his earlier audition performances.

So, what do you think? Is airtime to blame for Joseph's lack of votes? Who should have gone that didn't? Let your voice be heard!

I definitely don't think that airtime had anything to do with the number of votes Joseph received. Didn't someone who got voted off last week complain about airtime? Why don't they just chalk it up to what it really is--lack of talent, showmanship and lack of the IT factor.

As for Aloha, I don't think she should have gone yet. Janay should have been the one to go. She was the worst female performer last night and she wasn't that great last week either. I wouldn't be surprised if voters make up for that next week.

Thank god they decreased the episode to a half hour. Last week was cruel and annoying.
Who is voting for Janay? Whoever you are, stop. Last night, she looked like a little girl dressed up in her stripper mom's clothes.
Carrie Underwood should win. I think she will if she goes back to how she sang the first round of semi-finals.
Either Carrie, or Bo. He doesn't look like an American Idol but he sings like one.

I think Janay should have gone home instead of Aloha. I liked Celena but wasn't surprised that she went. I was not surprised by either of the guys either, and Joseph is ridiculous if he thinks he went because he got a lack of airtime. That guy reminds me of the creepy guy that comes up to a woman way too hot for him in a bar and asks her something crude and disgusting. He was such a slimeball he could have sang like an angel and I wouldn't have voted for him.

Janay should definitely have gone by now. Can we start a petition? Simon's right-she'll be great in couple of years. I am sad to see Aloha leave-she's extremely talented. If Joseph though he didn't get enough airtime, he should have stepped up and shown us SOMEthing! Big baby. I want Judd back! Wildcard, please!

Haha yeah Joe definitely had the greasy guido look down. However I do find it interesting that over half of the people eliminated so far have had little to no airtime before the top 24 (Joe, Melinda, Aloha, Jared, Celena). David probably had just about the most airtime of anyone in the top 24, so its actually surprising that he was booted. He started out as a male frontrunner... boy he really blew it.

I was overall very pleased with the eliminations tonight (except for the GLARING exception of Janay). I have a feeling that Janay is a Nikki Mckibbin-in-Training. Unfortunately, if she can manage to deliver 2 of the worst Idol performances since William Hung and not even come within danger of being eliminated, she must have an enormous stealth voter bloc and she will probably last long in this competition.

I think in a competition such as this, we should get down to the bottomline i.e. the best voice quality. Next will be the best personality and wholesomeness. I would like my kids, my kids' kids, and so on to idolize a pop star who has these attributes. Therefore, my choice of the winners will come down to Anwar Robinson and Carrie Underwood!

In deed Janay was awful but of course she is from BIG GA and there are folks who will vote geographically no matter what! But Lordy she was BAD!!!!! Bring on the voice trainers. I am sure that Aloha will be back on a wild card, remember Clay!

I don't think there will be any wildcard this year, as everyone gets to vote on the top 24 already.

Janay is terrible, terrible, terrible with very weak vocals. Simon is right when he said she looked scared. She's flat and off key pretty consistent on that. Aloha has a good set of pipes. She should be given a second chance.

I am definetely not pleased with the vote off this week. David is one of the best singers in the competition as well as Aloha. No Aloha's song choice wasn't great but she did well enough last week that should have been covered from being eliminated. Her performance on Tuesday wasn't great but it was definetely should not have been grounds for elimination. David has such a great voice and stage presence who knows why he got voted off. As for Celena and Joseph i really didn't mind them getting the boot because because neither of them are memorable.

So glad they shortened elimination to a half hour.

How is Janay getting votes??? What are the people voting for her smoking, anyway??? I think she's a joke and should never have made it this far. She should have definitely been kicked to the curb already.

I was in awe of David Brown's performance and voted probably over 1,000 times for him, so I was so surprised to see him go. What a talent!!

I believe the winner will be either Anthony Fedorov or Carrie Underwood.

THe show was boring and predicatble, I think the country singer was terrible. As for the guys, Mario is not good! Why is everyone saying that he is the best?

I knew Mario wouldn't be eliminated just yet. He's a really good singer and performer. But, would anyone who reads spanish explain to me why he says his last name all wrong? It's supposed to sound like vas-kes, not vas-kwes!

This is the 4th year in a row that the wrong person got voted off early.

Tonight, Aloha, who was absolutely the best singer in the competition was voted off...mostly because of some ridiculous comments made by the judges who had not heard the other contestants. She (Aloha) sand much better than all of the contestants and was voted off the show. After listening to all of the contestants, it was obvious to anyone with a set of ears that Aloha was the best...by far.

In previous years, Latoya London was voted off early and was by far the best performer and singer in the competition...even better than Fantasia.

Clay Aikens was robbed of being the American Idol when he sang rings around Ruben on the final night of competition.

Tamyra Gray was voted off early (before the finals), even though she still could not have beaten Kelly Clarkson.

These early screw ups have really fked up the show.

I am so angry that David Brown got voted off on this weeks elimination show, but as long as Mario,(the best singer on the show) wins, then fox still has me as their #1 viewer. If they are smart than they will pick Mario as americas next american idol(since americas votes dont really count anyways!)

I guess Scott should go next week. He has a good singing voice but personality wise, I dont think so. I would rather choose Bo than Constantine. Lets face it, Bo is a better singer than Con. Its just that the latter has charisma and its working good for him. I would rather choose these guys for my top six for boys: Mario, Bo, Anwar, Nikko, Anthony and Travis. The judges were all correct, this season got the best male group. Its really hard to choose. All of them got a good singing voice and its just a matter of who really got the lowest vote. If my prediction is correct, I will go crazy whom to vote on the 1st final week. Whew!

I think that none of the girls have Kelly's or Fantasia's quallity, but the guys, I think Anthony Fedorov has the most amazing voice of the competition... he's awesome. I think he should be the next american idol, he deserves it...!!!!!!

Hey, has anybody noticed how horrible the live sound mixing has been on a lot of the singers?
I have a recording studio and also do live sound, and the sound guy can make or break the vocalist just by how he presents the voice with the instrumentals and the levels of the backup singers.
The levels of some of the contestant's vocals are actually lower than the backup singers, which gives the impression of a weak performance, which wasn't the case in more than a few instances. And the whole lavish show is about music and they spend tons of money, so why the lame sound?
Between Simon bashing people (or not)and the bad mixes, I think perhaps we and the contestants are being manipulated.
All of these kids are good...we are looking at the top 24 of some 60,000 auditions. I'd take any one of these singers and make a great album with them. They all have exceptional talent. They all should have the best sound possible for every performance. Shame on Fox!
Richard

Yeah, Aloha shouldnt have been voted off tonight, but as Simon said its not like she was gonna win the competition, so whatever.

Now I want Janay to make the final 12 just for the pure entertainment value. Wouldn't it be hilarious to see her attempting to compete alongside the top 5 girls in the competition? It'd be wayyy funnier than Jasmine trias crying onstage after Simon told her she sucked.
