American Idol's top 11 showed off their number ones tonight, as the theme was Billboard's number ones. The performances were almost all consistently good. It was actually a little difficult to come up with a bottom three tonight as I felt most of the contestants did a great job.
Anthony Fedorov sang "I knew you were waiting for me." It was pitchy and not his best, but it was an upbeat performance again. Overall it was just okay. Randy Jackson said that he felt Anthony was back. Paula Abdul said he came back strong. Simon Cowell said it was okay, but he had a problem with Anthony doing a sexy routine. He compared it to Randy being on Baywatch.
Next up was Carrie Underwood. After getting off to a good start on American Idol, she had gone down a bit in my opinion by choosing to stick to the country routine. She snapped that image quitely clearly tonight, singing "Alone" by Heart. Not only was her country song gone, her country look was gone too. She looked beautiful and sang beautifully. I was really impressed, possibly more so than I have been yet by her. If she keeps this up, she will definitely make it to the finals. Randy called it her best performance yt. Paula said her hat was off to Carrie. Simon went on to predict that Carrie isn't the girl to beat, she's the person to beat. He added that Carrie will not only win, but will sell more than any other American Idol contestant. I'm still not sure she'll win, I still think it will be a guy, but she could end up being stiff competition.
Scott Savol sang "Against All Odds." I thought it was a good performance and he has a good voice. I like that he keeps getting better and showing off more personality. Randy said the show was hot tonight. Paula pointed out that Scott is getting better week after week. Simon was grateful it was only a minute song, as he was afraid Scott would end up with a striptease. He didn't think it was a fantastic vocal either. I'd have to agree with that, but he's getting better and he has a good voice. He's stepping up his game.
Bo Bice sang "Time in a Bottle," but I don't think he did as well as Constantine did last week. Bo needed to sing a slower song, and he did okay. I can't help but compare the two. Randy felt that it was too subdued and didn't show Bo's range. Paula said he was a gift to the audience, though I'm not really sure what she meant by that. Simon said that watching Bo is like watching someone who has already made it. He felt that the only downside to Bo tonight was his hair, which was resembling Paula's too much.
Nikko Smith performed "Incomplete." It was pitchy and not his greatest vocal performance, but he's an excellent performer. I love to watch him. The one long note he sang was great. Randy was happpy that America was finally seeing the real Nikko Smith. Paula thought it showcased his beautiful voice. Simon said that give or take a few small tuning problems, it was by far Nikko's best vocal performance to date. Paula was so happy to hear this that she smothered poor Simon with kisses. He didn't seem to be enjoying it, which you can see if you click the picture to see a larger version of it.
Vonzell Solomon did "The Best of my Love." She sang to Simon as he just sort of sat there and watched. I thought it was one of her best performances. It wasn't excellent vocally, but it was pretty darn good. Randy was happy that Vonzell is back. Paula was happy to see Vonzell's personality back as well, she also threatened Simon if he said it wasn't risky. Simon said that for the first time people will remember her.
Constantine Maroulis performed a song by the Partridge family, "I think I love you." I KNOW I love him. I think he's an awesome performer who has a good voice. I still don't think he'll win the competition, but I think that the record labels are nuts if they don't snatch him up. He has a way of capturing his fans. Randy said he pulled it off in an over the top theatrical way. Paula thought it was great. Simon thought it was an "odd fit" with the rocker doing the Partridge family. He thought it was like ordering a guard dog for your house and getting a poodle in a leather jacket. I thought that was rather funny, and oddly enough, true to a certain degree. It just shows that there is more to Constantine than meets the eye.
Nadia Turner admitted that she had a hard time picking her song. She likes "artsy fartsy" songs that didn't make it to number one (which I knew, by the way). She ended up picking "Time after Time" and failing miserably. This after she finally got me back on her side last week with her performance, and now I'm not liking her again. I hated her version of the song, her hairdo was more bizarre than anything Cindy Lauper wore. Randy lovd her mohawk and said she's a star onstage all the time (which translates to he likes her but she did bad and he doesn't want to say it). Paula said it wasn't her favorite song choice. Simon said it was very over the top, old fashioned, and Nadia's worst performance yet. Ryan Seacrest pointed out that Nadia's mic fell down.
Mikalah Gordon had her worst performance yet with "Love will lead you back." It was pitchy and absolutely horrid to listen to. Randy missed the young, fun Mikalah. He also noted that it was pitchy. Paula said she was concerned about Mikalah. Simon called it a mess.
Anwar Robinson sang "Ain't Nobody." I thought it was an excellent performance, but it didn't show off his vocal ability. Randy called it another ambitious song choice. He said it wasn't his best, but it was alright. Paula was proud of him for taking on a female sensation like Chaka Khan. Simon called it inconsistent and lazy. He said Anwar needed to do something uptempo and that wasn't it.
Jessica Sierra closed out the show with a great performance of "Total Eclipse of the Heart." It was absolutely perfect for her. If she keeps making great song choices like this, she has a real shot to win the competition. Randy called it a brilliant performance. Paula called it a brilliant performance as well and added that she closed the show on top. Simon said that she and Carrie outsang everyone else.
All in all, I think it was an excellent comeback for most people from last week. I had a bit of trouble coming up with a bottom three this week, but I managed.
My Top three:
Jessica Sierra
Carrie Underwood
Constantine Maroulis
I think Jessica is turning out a lot of consistently good performances. Last week she was just okay, but relatively speaking okay was pretty good last week. For that reason, she's coming out towards the top in my finals prediction. I still think a guy will win, as the guys are overall better than the girls, but the girls are starting to step up a bit.
My bottom three:
Mikalah Gordon
Nadia Turner
Anthony Fedorov
Mikalah definitely deserves to be on the bottom. Nadia won't land in the show's bottom three, but that doesn't stop me from putting her there. I think that Vonzell or Nikko might land in Nadia spot on the show. As for Anthony, he's there by default. Of the remaining performances, I liked his the least. I think that Mikalah will be the one to go this week. I'm not sure her fans can manage to keep her in the show this time.
Mikalah really just needs to leave. She's now had THREE bad weeks in a row. I actually think this might have been worse than Son of a Preacher Man. I think Nadia was the 2nd worst, just the wrong song to sing in this competition. Its hard to pick a bottom 3, I can only say Mikalah and Nadia for bottom 2.
I can't even understand why Mikalah made it this far anyway. She should have been long gone and shouldnt even be in the semis.....there were other great male contestants who left and were definitely much much better than her....!.....you keep her one more week in the show and there goes the shows credibility as well.
I was very impressed with almost all of the performances from tonight! WOW! I actually had a difficult time picking a bottom three, so tonight it'll be a bottom two.
First, it was great to see Carrie break from her country image. I was very proud of her, and she is def. back on my list of favorites. Her performance was excellent and I loved it. I hope the rest of her performances meet or exceed tonight's.
Jessica Sierra really impressed me too. I loved the song, loved the performance, loved everything! I hope she continues to do just as well too.
Mikalah of course was terrible. I really, really, really hope she goes home tomorrow.
Anywho...
My Top Three: -Carrie Underwood
-Jessica Sierra
-Constantine Maroulis
Carrie was by far the best. Bo did a great job in showing his range in mood and song choice. Jessica closed greatly. Mikaylah was flat and is this years "Leah LaBelle" Nadia wasn't as strong, but she has tons of support. Constantine was not as great as his version from the Partridge Family was scary and slightly offensive, but no worries to him as he has been awesome in the past.
Bottom Three:
Mikaylah
Scott
Constantine or Nadia (song choice hurts both of them)
MIKAYLAH GOES HOME WHICH MAKES IDOL 1000% BETTER!!!
I'm not sure what was worse.. Mikalah's performance or her over confidence, irregardless, it's time for her to go. My nod goes to Bo Bice tonight BTW.. his Time in a Bottle was well timed.
I have to say that I'm disappointed with most people's reactions to Bo's song. I'm not enormously into Bo, but I really enjoyed his performance tonight. I love "Time in a Bottle" and thought he pulled off a slower song very well. It's fun that there's two rockers in the competition and Constantine's personality should pull him through to the final five.
NIKKO SUCKS!!! Nikko is the musical equivalent of the Olsten Twins ... Everything the Olsen Twins have done is absolutely dreadful, but for some twisted reason they have fans.
Nadia was bad, as was Mikalah. But Nikko was even worse! Congress should have an emergency session to get him deported to North Korea or Syria.
These 11 semi-finalists are extraordinary entertainers.... if not, why were there 30 million viewers tuned in to watch them. Let us all give them credit for their talent, showmanship and stage presence. WOW!!!
They all did great for whatever they can offer .... it will be difficult to choose which one has to go, as they all became part of this challenge, and to take one will be heartbreaking. But the show must go on....
I think Mikalah has to go, if we really need to take one out. But she is young and she has more years for her to improve her talent and skills. You bet you will hear more of her in the near future.....
We are all entitled to our opinion, and this site gives us an opportunity to express our feelings on the contestants. We all have our favorites. I find the comments by the guest of 20058-03-23-03:23:12 extremely offensive. If you can't offer critisism more objectively then don't say anything. It only demonstrates your limited intelligence.
I absolutely loved Constantine's performance; he is a fantastic entertainer. I want him to win despite the fact that their are a few better voices. He has it all! Looks, talent, stage presence. LOVE HIM!!!!
Carrie has a great voice, but bores me too death on stage!!!
