Rock Star: Supernova questions commitment

The guys of Supernova largely made their decision tonight based on commitment. All three of the bottom three performed fairly well, and well enough to keep them in the competition. But one had to go, and ultimately Supernova just questioned the commitment of the leaving party. But before we get to that, you have to wade through the recap (or scroll I suppose).
After the various yadda yaddas, intros and recaps, we were on to the first round of interviews. Tommy Lee told Storm Large she did an excellent stage dive and wondered if it was her first time. Storm said it wasn't but she could make it look like it was. Next up were Dave Navarro and Patrice Pike, who discussed Dave's comments to her about changing every week. Dave said it was meant for everyone, as they need to change so they aren't boring. Soccer mom said she hears him and has seen him with his various bands and what she meant last night was that he is consistent (yeah, way to backpedal there Patty). Dave add they are just trying to help. He then moves on to Zayra Alvarez, inquiring about her outfit. She said she got it out of his wardrobe. Gilby Clarke tells Zayra that she's entertaing but wonders when the pop stops and the rock starts. Zayra says that rock and roll is anything you want it to be and if she's different that is good. Gilby tells her they want something harder, she says she's do that next week. Jason Newsted wonders what they should do with Phil Ritchie. Phil tells them to let him hand out longer, adding that they get frustrated because 2/3 of the songs aren't really heavy or intense. Dave points out that Dana and Dilana had stripped back songs that still managed an intense presentation.
On to the clips of the whinging after the show. Jill Gioia whines that Gilby just isn't used to women, that he's used to Axl. She says it's different with women onstage. Dana Andrews tells the rockers she is learning from them even when they aren't speaking. She thought her performance was a breakthrough and showed her darker side. Broodster, Ryan Star says she has a lot of catching up to do, as she's not where she should be at 22. Dilana says she can become a rock chick, but wonders if it will happen in the two months of the show. Dana, still focusing on clothes, whines about her wardrobe as it's been all rocker chick now. If anything shows why she isn't ready to be a rock chick, it's her constant complaints that she manages to look the part. Anyhow, Dana says that she is out of student mode and now it's time to do what she thinks.
Back to another interview, the first between Gilby and Jill. Gilby starts off nicely, pointing out that their opinions come from years of experience. They wonder when she gets all defensive and crap what they will have to deal with if she joins their band (in other words, stop the nagging 'cause they get that at home enough already). Pamela-lite says she's Italian and hot tempered and why can't women show their sexuality like men do? Gilby says that he's played guitar for Heart, with 2 women onstage. Ann Wilson has never had to stoop so low as to hump Gilby to get her emotions out. He add that her moves were predictable. Jill, who no doubt regretted her next words as they left her brainless head, said everything in rock and roll has been done before. Everyone was upset by that, Dave was buzzing her, Gilby was upset. Jill tried to backtrack and say she'll do something new and exciting.
Then we were on to Dave and Dana, who wondered if her comments back at the house meant she wasn't going to listen to the other rockers or to Supernova. Dana said that she still has to learn, but she's starting to learn more from them when they keep their mouth shut. Dave points out that Dilana gave her excellenct advice the other day. Dana agreed saying constructive criticism is cool, but when they're all coming at her it's hard to take.
The encore went to Storm Large, leading to my reaction of "ewwwww." Her performance of Anything Anything by Dramarama was about the same as yesterday, but without the flying skirt. It was cool enough, but really, was that one the best? Maybe out of the ones that hadn't performed an encore yet, I suppose.
Finally we're on to the whole purpose of the night. Jill, Josh Logan, and Zayra were in the bottom three when the show closed yesterday. They were quickly joined by Phil and Soccer Mom. First into the bottom three was Soccer Mom. Tommy wondered if Mom was surprised to be in the bottom three. She said you never know, but would be surprised if she left today. She performed "My Iron Lung" by Radiohead, calling it a great modern rock song that was beautiful and in your face. She was trying to look and sound a bit more like Dilana. She also acted a bit more rocker chick, going into the audience. The performance was so-so, as I got the feeling she didn't really know what she was doing up there. She just seemed to stumble around. She's not right for the band, but it would be enough to keep her around.
Next into the bottom was Zayra. Gilby told her this may be her last time singing for them. She said she would sing "Not an Addict" by K's Choice, as she's addicted to music. Honestly I liked it, but I'm certain not too many other people did. I like her, though I think Nicole and I are alone on the Zayra-is-cool front. She's not right for the band, but she's fun and a good entertainer.
Josh and Jill were quickly told they were safe, leaving Phil as the last person into the bottom three. Jason told him to make him a believer again, and give them a performance they would watch over and over again. Phil performed an unknown song, Smoking Umbrellas by Failure. The song definitely had the intensity that the band wanted. I wasn't too sure about the song, but overall it was a fairly good performance.
Gilby said there were three killer performance tonight. Patrice's voice kept her in the show, he said, but she brought the same performance every time. Tonight however was awesome and they want to see more of that. Patty was naturally safe. As for Zayra, she's original but they have a hard time imagining her in the band. As for Phil that was his best yet, but don't know if he wants it. Phil says he wants to be the best at everything he does and he wants to win this. They wonder if he wants to win or be in the band. Tommy told Phil that they just question his commitment, making him the next to go. Phil thanks all for the chance. Gilby says that they respect that he stayed the same, but needed to believe he wanted to be in the band.
Extra points for me tonight, I did not need a replay to catch everything! I wonder if it's because Skunky and Crocodile Hunter were silent? I didn't have to sit there and go "huh?" and miss half the stuff.

Well...that was just pathetic.Who in the f are these guys to question anyones commitment or dedication. If im not mistaken Mr" most overrated drummer in rock" Lee has had 2 failed marriages (in which he routinely beat and cheated on his then wives),made a rap album, made a porno, was rumored to have given pam hepatitis, and let the neighbor child where he once lived drown in his d*mn pool ??? etc etc..He looked pretty gangsta' tonight i question his dedication to rock and metal music.Pee,Dork and Oldsted are just a bunch of washed up,bloated, has been hypocrites....Phil did suck and i know this show needs drama for its ratings, but c'mon why make an example of this guy ?....Zayra delivers horse dung performances every week and shes still there ?...the only thing i can figure is that the boys think she is hot and want to pull a "train" on her.Well....the only future Miss Alvarez has is a career in Chatsworth,Ca as the next latina xxx star.Yep,this show is beyond the point of credibility,i wouldn't be surprised if theyve already picked their singer and have demoed with them. Its all Hollywood, all bull !!!!!

Excellent re-cap Curlio, I could never do that, I get really enthralled with the goings on.
I actually had the bottom three in my draft for the worst of the night along with Jill and Josh, but I let my smarty pants logic think the the playing it safe for Patrice would work at least a few more weeks and thought Phil, though I thought he was terrible, had the male eye candy vote for the babble-head immune, hey, that is pretty funny, huh? You guys are wearing off on me.
I still think Dana, Josh, Zayra, Patrice, and Jill are facing their immediate demise. I was tied for 10th in the RSGH contest but should not fall too far behind, I don't think many called this one, execpt the pin-head spoiler we discussed earlier. (I had been on top of the world, a beautiful ballerina, came to visit me at work right before I read the spoiler, I guess you could say I went from the mountain to the valley.)
I am interested in Sprouts behind the scenes dish. Will
I guess I will seek solice in remembering the divine glance she gave me a she parted my company, sigh!!

I figured out what really bugs me about Zayra. She may be Puerto Rican, but she sounds like Celine Dion to me when she talks. And I can't stand Celine Dion.
Not totally sure why the band felt Phil wasn't committed. I guess because of his low-key demeanor. But oh well, he was destined to leave sooner rather than later. Unlike Supernova, I thought his performance kind of stunk. Zayra did well enough to save her ass, but only for another week or two. And Patrice did pretty darn good, I thought. She'll probably survive another couple of weeks.

I walked in about half way through Zayra, so only a few comments.
First, I think Zayra is on the wrong show. It should be Survivor, baby, yeah! Okay, that's corny but it's late. I second Curlio--she's cool, not right for the band, but still about a thousand times more interesting than half those zombies up there.
Speaking of zombies, shout out to my homeboy Phil! Sorry your bobble head got your kicked off (they might have said commitment, but we all know it's the bobblehead that did him in). You're still a cutie.
Interesting reasons Supernova has axed people so far:
Week 1: Duran Duran
Week 2: Lilith Fair
Week 3: Bobblehead
Try playing the what do these three things have in common game?
Luv ya!

for me it has to be zayra who needs to be booted out...is it 3 out of 4 weeks that she's in the bottom three? wowee...tommy, gilby & jason if ur just after for her looks then why don't you pick someone from the Miss Universe pageant and audition who can front your band...you guys must be deaf! even if im not there in person watching the show "LIVE", for me its pathetic with zayra staying there with all those rockstars since she can't belt out a tune! guys??? wake up...

Have you seen this? Phil told a newspaper he's only there to promote his band back home and he doesn't like Supernova's music (the one riff he'd heard so far) and doesn't want to win. No wonder they questioned his commitment. Way to diss a future employer. He makes some pathetic excuses in his elimination video. What an idiot. Supernova HAD to boot him.
A guy who was at the elimination taping posted on Rockband.com. After Phil was booted, Dave Navarro stopped all the goodbye hugs and read the newspaper article out loud:
'Ritchie said his primary goal in competing is to promote his band.
"I mean, really I just hope to gain exposure. ... I'm not stoked about the music Supernova's popping out."
He said he knows if he wins the competition he's obligated to tour with the band.
"I love my boys back home, but you know I still have to look out for myself in this world," he said. "I've got to create opportunities for myself, and this is too huge an opportunity to say no to." '

ok.........
not surprised at all that Patrice is in the bottom.with that attitude , i'd probably kick her out. rock is about the RIGHT ATTITUDE , not just attitude. Zayra proves this!!
honestly man , XENA (thats Zayra 'cause she looks like the Xena Babe) sometimes fascinates me . and buddy, she definetly does not sound like Celine Dion. Puhleese.....NExt to go should probably be Jill. Let Zayra be in the top ten.
Remember that Suzie McNeil of INXS , she was in the bottom three on half the shows , yet she came to the top 5 . NOt that i want Xena to be in the top 5 but c'mon people Give her a break , don't just judge her by her voice. honestly , i thimk she is true rock. not the heavy raspy crap like Lukas.

one random guest inquired:
how is it mebers have 0% for Lukas when the guests have 30% Uhm.... 'cause none of the members have voted for Lukas? We're not impressed by Skunky. Apparently 30% of the guests are. Nicole ponders:
Interesting reasons Supernova has axed people so far:
Week 1: Duran Duran
Week 2: Lilith Fair
Week 3: Bobblehead
Try playing the what do these three things have in common game? Uhm...
Duran Duran = washed up has-beens, and probably gay
Lilith Fair = gay chicks who usually never were?
Bobblehead = gay
So Supernova are homophobic, that's what it is. On that theory, next to leave will be Toby 'cause he's just too cute to be straight.

Good theory Curlio!
How about . . .
Duran Duran=too much hairspray
Lilith Fair=not enough hairspray
Bobbleheads=plastic hair that doesn't move, thus eliminating the need for hair spray
So, Supernova has already lined up endorsement deals with a hairspray company? On that theory, our girl Zayra will be the next to leave since she is clearly the most hairspray-challenged of the bunch.

Ok, here goes…
My darling friend called me after the show – she knows I love to get spoilt – but this time around, it was more about the drama than the elimination!
Patrice Pike – now the problem is – they edited the real deal on performance night – she had rearranged the song a bit – and when Supernova jumped on her case – she mentioned that her arrangement went unnoticed – actually I didn’t notice it at all! So she asked Dave, who was on her case, whether he rearranged his style every time as a compromise, because she wanted to know how he managed to be in so many bands and their unique requirements?! And that was when he said that he did improvise a bit – but he did not compromise his own style, so essentially he told her that he could be consistent unlike her! And they showed us that she challenged him and he put her in her place by stating that he was not auditioning for a gig as he already had a job! Basically, in all this context – her stating that Dave was consistent was not back-paddling, it was just an edit! Essentially, Patrice wanted to know – why consistency is a bad deal!
Ok, we all saw that Jill was annoyed by Gilby – the fact we don’t know is that Jill’s critique was the longest on performance night – not just two lines as we saw on television! At one point, Gilby stated that if a dude grinds with him – that would be something new – her grinding was extremely predictable! Obviously, the elimination show included the arguments! And they were twice the length shown, but we all got the gist of it all! Dave apparently loved it so much that he said it was more entertaining than watching Crossfire! Jill is not making any friends with her Prima Donna acts! I think next time she features in Bottom Three – she will be ousted for her attitude!
Next up, Dana! Dilana was being truthful that Dana has the potential of being a great Rock Chick – but like us – she wonders if that will happen in the next two months! We all know that despite Dana doing great – we still see her as Skipper and think she is a rock wannabe! So I don’t think Dilana’s comments were negative – they were realistic!
Ryan on the other hand is a different story – he is hell-bent in breaking her confidence! He is a creep and finally, he got a reality check! Surprisingly, they edited every bit of Jason’s comments addressed to Ryan! Jason actually was in a relentless mood and he kept on attacking Ryan for his comments – so much so that at one point he said that though Ryan criticizes Dana – every chance he gets – Dana’s voice and stage presence are in fact better than his! Ryan tries to explain himself, but Jason was not in the mood and he kept on hitting Ryan where it hurts the most – his ego!
The atmosphere became so tense that Brooke Burke came on the stage and asked why they were so tense and where the love was! Dave countered, “When is the recess?”
Usually, the encore is certain – but Supernova said they need time to decide and they went backstage for almost twenty minutes and gave the encore to Storm! That was not a surprise!
Patrice featuring in Bottom Three was not a surprise – I was so disappointed by her performance that I knew she’d be in Bottom Three!
Zayra survives and Nicole is happy! Mazel Tov!
Phil – Ok, here’s the deal from the television edit – My gal was a bit upset that the eye candy left – I liked him, but frankly after my friend told me the back story – I too would have got rid of him! I don’t know if anyone noticed Tommy’s sadness!
As I said Tommy had more than a man crush, but I think he was sad because he felt like Phil stabbed him in his heart!
Confusing? Let me unfold the back story!
Phil basically ousted himself – the commitment issue was more than they showed us! Apparently, Phil has a big mouth! After he was asked to leave – Dave asked Phil, if they got newspaper at the Rock Star Mansion! Phil said negative! Dave said that they did and he said let me read something for you!
He starts reading an interview in which Phil states that he was on the show to promote himself and his own band. Moreover, he hated Supernova’s music! Phil apparently was not expecting this confrontation, but he admitted that he did not care for Supernova style!
Tommy was so upset that Gilby had to tell Phil that Tommy was totally devastated that he had to let Phil go, as he did not want to eliminate him! Supernova warned other Rockers that they should not talk trash in media!
I am wondering who Tommy will set his eyes on next! I also wonder whose pants will get wet with beer thanks to Tommy!
Lukas – no way in hell!
Ryan – you have got to be kidding me!
Magni – I sincerely doubt it!
Toby – maybe, but he does not swing that way – he made that clear! By the by, I misjudged Toby’s height – he is a tall fellow!
Anyway, so that’s the back story! I am a little happy that this season there are many Rockers, who are drama worthy – last year, it was J.D. Fortune show!
So that’s that!!!

I haven't seen this show yet(and I don't plan to based on the people in the band itself), but if I'm not mistaken, outside of the one gig that made these guys famous they haven't been able to hold down a band for more than a year or so. Who the heck are they to talk about committment?
Hell, Gilby Clarke, whose only claim to fame is GnR only took up that spot for 3 years before bailing.

I was at the taping of the elimination show. Anybody who feels badly that Phil was the one to go shouldn't. Supernova had good reason to question Phil's commitment.
After the announcement was made and Phil was making his final comments to the band, Dave asked him if they got newspapers at the Mansion. Phil replied, "No". Dave continued by saying that they (Dave and Supernova) DO get newspapers. Dave said "Let me read something to you." He proceeded to read an article which quoted Phil as saying that he was only in this competition to gain publicity for him and his band. He said that he likes his band and doesn't even like Supernova's music.
Lesson learned. DO NOT say anything on camera or that might make it to print if you don't want it to bite you in the *later.

The show is rigged, which explains why Zayra is still on. She should be on another show like...
America's Got Talent or
American Idol
She would not win, but at least I wouldn't have to watch her butcher song after song. I can just see the producers whispering to Tommie, Gilby, and Jason..."keep her, the freak is good for ratings". She has no shot at making the band, so dump her.

Sprout said: Blah Blah! Thanks Sprout, great backstory! You know me I like the real part (reality part) as much as the show it self. Phil, what a nit-wit! That he was that stupid and selfish and so
so self-involved to not only do this but say that he did this shows exactly the sad lack of integrity of so many people.
And, from now on til the end of his life he will be the two faced lying phoney, who will backstab and betray his fellows. He might as well get a new tatoo, across his bobblehead that says beware a** H***!
Whee, yeah, and today I'm still mad at the spoiler. Ugh!
The deal with Patrice and Jill and Storm and all , I guess.
I had a neat discussion with a couple of blind buds when in college. They allways talked about the way Stevie Wonder and Ray Charles Moved, evidnetly someone had showed them somehow, so the did discuss it and the way seeing folks move and talk and sing. It was very interesting, have you ever had conversations with a very very intelligent and perceptive blind person, it can be so insiteful!
He said, " you are all like robots, you copy one another and everything you do is basically what you copy from others, we blind folk's really know how to move we move lke the music tells us, unaffected by the robots bouncing around us. " Now this was all said in playful fun, but like Willy Shake says, "much truth is said in jest!" Do you think Dilana invented the facial jewelry or tongue wagging or dreadlocks or rainbow colored hair, no. We are human part of the herd and yes it might be the "rock herd", but we never stray too far. My feeling is that even in repetition the joy of life and love and genius can be seen. Do we hot Celebrate the "Firebird", "Shakespear', or the the coliseum of Rome. Do we not celebrate most that which we hold dear that is perfectly, lovingly and inspirationally protrayed. The fact the we expand only ever so slightly and slowly from the tried and true to the unknown is probably the reason for the development of humanity!! Will the Philosopher!
Ah, the firebird, you should have seen her smile!OMG

Comment from: Will [Member]
Ask him if it is true he would do anything to lookout for himself and his band would he consider selling the corpse of a dead relative to the arabs for target practice for live play time on say Howard Stern. Ask him then wouldn't you be respected as a real bad rocker ,oohhhhhhh? Ask him does
he think his head bobble makes him any less of a real guy?

I do not like JD last years winner and hate the song pretty vegas, this year I have two favorites Lukas and Dilana they seem to be the only two that know themselves and have their own style ...they may not be right for this band but Zayra shouldn't even been in the top 15.

Okay, did anyone else think that Patrice's sunglasses were just plain wierd and very 80s in a bad way? She has a great voice, but she turned Remedy into a Whitney Houston meets Elvis in Vegas extravaganza. The haircut is making her very momish as well....all the tattoos and bad sunglasses can't save her. She needs a serious makeover, but if I close my eyes, I can fully appreciate her voice.
