Metallica finally caves to iTunes pressure
curlio
In a sign that they're usually the last band to ever do what their fans want, Metallica have finally caved in to the tremendous pressure and have allowed iTunes to sell individual songs from their albums. That's right, after years of standing their ground, even though it was sinking in quicksand, the band have decided to do what their fans have wanted.
As of Tuesday, the iTunes store began offering the band's entire back catalog of 10 albums for sale, from their 1983 debut, Kill 'Em All, to 2004's Some Kind of Monster EP. As a bonus, previously unreleased live tracks have been added to the first four albums as iTunes bonuses.
Kill 'Em All features live versions of "The Four Horsemen" and "Whiplash" while 1984's Ride the Lightning adds versions of "For Whom the Bell Tolls" and "Creeping Death." The guys of Metallica had long held on to the old fashioned idea that allowing songs to be downloaded individually would be the death of the album.
