Rock Star: Supernova doubles up on the night curlio
 2006-08-09 21:46:05
Television Tonight on Rock Star: Supernova was the night we all eagerly awaited. We had our first double elimination. Unfortunately it was not the two rockers we all wanted to be rid of, Pamela-lite and Soccer Mom. Oh well, it was still fun to see! We also got a double encore tonight, making the show double cool.

First up was the part of the show that tests my typing speed. As they didn't talk to Mumbly or Ken, I had little trouble keeping up with the interview and recaps tonight. First up was the mansion before last night's show. Gilby Clarke paid the rockers a surprise visit to present them with 10 shiny new guitars from Gibson. Then we were on to the recap of song selection, focusing on the fact that Dilana was the only one who wanted the song that would be with Gilby Clarke. After the performance night, the rockers had their traditional celebration to a wonderful show. Jill Gioia told everyone that they were nuts to not take the opportunity to rock with Gilby. If they're all there to front Supernova why didn't they fight for the song. Storm Large wonders why Jill didn't do it, and Jill says she already rocked with Gilby (and bombed I might add). Storm wanted "We Are The Champions" and doesn't feel pressured to sing with the band. Zayra Alvarez says that if you pick a song just because of Supernova and don't think if it will suit you, you just hang yourself. Storm and Zayra have excellent points however it seemed to me that Dilana wasn't overly familiar with the song she picked. She stepped up however because she wanted to prove something.

Dave Navarro talked to Summer Sprinkles about her comment that she knows she can rock with Gilby. He wants to know how Gilby knows that. Storm says Gilby knows her history and background and hopes he knows that she wouldn't hump him. She adds that she would break his back. Gilby says it's a matter of chemistry and they need to feel that. Dilana was awesome and showed guts taking the song.

Tommy Lee talked to Brooding Ryan Star wondering what happened to the quiet reserved guy. He loves that Broodstar is coming out of his shell. He adds that there is something about the way he moves that makes him uncomfortable. Broodstar loves that he makes Tommy Lee uncomfortable. Gilby liked that they saw they saw something from everyone that they hadn't seen. He tells everyone that those who make it through the night will go with the guys to Las Vegas on a private jet. Tommy adds they will go to the Hard Rock and Casino where will be playing with one of them (the winner) on New Year's Eve.

Jason announced that it was too tough to pick just one encore, so they did two. First encore went to our own Mumbly- Skunkly - Lukas Rossi. Lukas was even better tonight than last night. He enunciated his words better and just totally rocked. It was like he got an injection of confidence and is running with it. I can totally see him fronting the band if he keeps this up.

The second encore went to Magni, who performed a plugged in version of his song last night. Magni told House Band that he missed them. It was also really cool, and I can see him too as the lead singer for the band.

Finally on to our favorite part - the elmination. Worldwide voting was up 22% from last week, but it still left Jill, Josh Logan, Zayra, Broodstar, and Soccer Mom Patrice Pike in the bottom at some point during the voting. Dave wasn't surprised, as there were a lot of similar faces. First into the bottom was NOT Zayra. She was the first safe! Jill however did land in the bottom. She decided on Aretha Franklin's Respect as rock and roll is based on the blues. First thing I thought is that House Band is * awesome. Jill... not so much.

Next into the bottom was Josh, leading poor Tommy to admit he's getting a complex! He thought the two of them were awesome. Josh admitted he would be disappointing the group again, as he would be once again be strapping on the guitar that got him into trouble last night. He performed Shooting Star by Bad Company. Even strapped to a guitar he was cool and funky. I love that he has always stayed true to himself, but still tries to listen to the band.

Last into the bottom was Broodstar, who was actually a little excited about it. Jason Newsted was surprised however and wondered what happened. He thought maybe people were getting confused as Ryan went from the piano to the weird eye makeup thing. Broodstar chose to do Enjoy the Silence by Depeche Mode, but changed the arrangment a bit to make it more current. His performance was totally awesome. I can start to see him fronting the band too. This will be a hard selection for Supernova in the end to pick who the winner is.

Gilby said that they didn't agree again. Jill was in the bottom three three times now but sang her way out each time. Josh has a good voice but wonders if it will cut through the loud guitars. He adds that there is a right and wrong time to play the guitar. Ryan has been building up over the last couple of week but they wonder if he's comfortable on stage. Ryan deserves another chance however. Tommy tells everyone that this week will be a first, as it's do or die. The axe falls on both of them. Jill says thanks and it was incredible and yadda yadda. Josh thanks them saying he knew he was different from them. He questions if that means he can't go to Vegas. The rockers laugh, leading Josh to "yell" at them that he just got cut and he is serious - though from his smile I wonder if he was. Jason tells them that their spirit will be missed, and that Josh showed undeniable cool.

Okay, so I'm REALLY disappointed now that Soccer Mom wasn't in the Bottom three as she would have been eliminated with Jill. But you can't have everything. Perhaps Patty will finally leave us next week, but I'm too afraid to hold my breath! I really wonder if there is something about her that comes off better in person than on TV? Perhaps those who have seen the show in person can chime in on that aspect!

Oops, I meant to type "She really is a train wreck that you just can't help but look at, even if it is a painful thing to do week after week." in my previous post re Z. Pardon the typo. Please keep the great reviews coming since we only get to see the show about 12 hours after it airs over in the US.

I'm pissed off that Zayra even gets some many mentions even if 90% is hate mail. So...so...ohh so bad. I'd be ashamed if I was Josh or Phil or any of the other contestants for leaving before her, or angry. Toby bairly rates a mention but will atleast go close to winning it, he's my tip. Should get some guest rockers to play and judge e.g. slash, dave grohl, eddie van halen etc. I HATED Jill too not only as an "artist", but a person- super bitch. She got her just deserts. Hard to tip a winner at this point and I disagree that Dilana has what it takes, not being sexist...who am I kidding....how can a chick front THIS band????? I'll give up if they do.

P.S. Hey Curlio, I think you should just make this site a Supernova only posting website, I'm 53 (poster) and the other stuff is pointless. Love your work and please be a bit more optimistic with the true contenders = everyone left minus soccer mum and that.....thing ZZZzzz.

Since no one else will say it...I will.

Dilana has no depth. As the contest continues you will all see...as will 'Nova.

She's this years Mig.

You heard it here first.

Thanks but I like where we're going actually. The other news might be a smidge less conversation-worthy but it is the bread-and-butter that keeps the hits rolling and the server running. We have goals outside of reality recaps that we're well on our way to meeting.

na . . . na . . . na . . . *nicole sings with her fingers stuck in her ears*. . . I love Zayra and you can't stop me . . . na . . . na . . . na . . .

I'm single handedly voting her through. I bought eight verizon phones and I pay my neighborhood bums in cigarettes to repeat text for me. She will never see the bottom three again!

Wraw! Wraw! Wraw!

It's really hard to type an evil laugh.

Seriously, I'm a big fan of anyone who causes so much controversy. Love her or hate her, Rockstar Supernova is turning out to be the Zayra show. I'm going to keep on loving her.

BTW, I did not intend to directly compare Zayra's singing to Robert Plant's, but, now that you all mention it, if you've heard Robert Plant lately, I think you'd agree that it's a pretty close call. Talk about a set of blown pipes (Lukas, take note!)

Welcome Cap'n. I hope you get to bang a chick on every reality show the Starship Curlio visits. :)
Nikki, we need to get you a Villians hat and remind you to laugh like this " Ya, ha haaaaaa!" Like Boris on Bullwinkle.

Hey Blake, if you go back to the previous recaps (click on the dark headlines banner on the near top right) and look at the prior posting about SN you will see that we have covered everyone and given em all nick names. Just about every possible angle is covered and some agree and some disagree, but we don't constantly re-hash the same ole arguments over and over unless someone has an interest and then we kinda play along, if we choose, sorta like Curlio and Nikki, love Z, yes is is somewhat a mystery to me except for the fact she is not "BLOND" ( think I don't pay attention?)! If she were blond they would have had her staked over an ant hill long ago, but , alas, I love'em both anyway. Foolishnes never interferres in matters of the heart and the arts. Make a point or two or ask a question we are always checking in. Never fear we are pretty tuned in an know what is going on, like you seem to be.

Like to have you as a member, you'd like it. No hassle and cute icons. Will -oops-

Well guest, we have discussed that very early on about her and Lucas but here is an interesting quote from Bill Lanta of Atlanta:

DILANA - TWO TRICK PONY

. . . . . . . WHY DILANA "WON'T" BE... THE LEAD SINGER FOR "THE TLEE 3"

Is there anyone else out there that just "isn't" SOLD on Dilana as being the "Shoe In" to be the next Front MAN for SuperNova... But you can't quite put your finger on it? (besides djcandyrocker)

AND... You want to stand up to the "It's Lukass" or "DILANA" fools but you just can't come up with a "persuasive" argument.

Well... "Y'ALL..." next time you want to confront a DILANA Bully, put THIS in their pipe and tell them to smoke it.

DILANA is VERY GOOD. DILANA is VERY ENTERTAINING. BUT...

Dilana is a TWO TRICK PONY.

(Musicians...you're gonna love this...)

TODAY... When you see your standard "lead guitarist" in any Concert Hall, PUB, BAR or on ANY STAGE, he is likely to have a "minimum" of about 8 to 10 special effects pedals in front of him. ALL interconnected. Whether they are made by BOSS, DigiTech, Danelectro, Line 6, Roland or MXR, doesn't make any difference, with the tap of a foot they can add...

REVERB
ECHO
FLANGE
CHORUS
TREMOLO
PHASE

and of course let's not forget EVERY Guitarists favorite.

DISTORTION!

Back "in the day" we used to call it "FUZZ TONE"

With the "tap" of a foot any guitarist can now go from a straight, clean guitar sound and add (or subtract) any "one" and/or "all" of the other special effects , in any combination HE (or SHE) [chick rockers always welcome here] chooses.

DILANA is like the poor * (and I do mean "poor" as in... Can Only Afford 1 Special Effects Pedal)that only has his FUZZ TONE. He can be a GREAT guitarist, faster than Eddie, sweeter than Carlos...(OK neither of those are actually possiBILL but were included for dramatic effect) BUT... He only has 2 sounds CLEAN and DISTORTION.

That is DILANA's "problem" in a nutshell and WHY... "SHE" will not become The Lead Singer for SuperNova.

She has only "2" settings. She can either sing things LOW and EARTHY or she can go "UP" an octave and sing with DISTORTION.

The only REAL difference between her and a "1 pedaled guitarist" is that the guitarist can always go up high on his neck and still play clean guitar.

For DILANA to go up there, the FUZZ automatically comes on and there is NOTHING she can do to stop it.

JILL on the other hand was "rich" and I mean that... SHE had it all, Fuzz, Phase, Flange, Chorus, Vibrato... Could sing HIGH... LOW... In Between, SCREAM...CLEAN, Rough It Up... Smooth It Out!

ALL of that and SHE was not "ROIT" for this band SUPERNOVA.

DILANA... due to her "limitations" doesn't stand a chance.

This may be too long Curlio, but it is about the Rocker from rockstar INXS and it is so well written, if you need to delete it do so but, I just wanted to share..

Bill Lanta went this concert in Canada, I wish we could all have shared his experience:

Welcome To RockStar 1 vs. RockStar 2
It's Hard to Beat The Original

ROCK STAR ROAD SHOW - LIVE IN CANADA - 2 NIGHTS - STANDING ROOM ONLY

. . . . . DEANNA JOHNSTON, TY TYLOR, MIG AYESSA, TARA SLONE and... SWEET SUZIE McNEIL

The Rock Stars did 2 performances. The first Sunday night August 6th at The Joy Supper Club in Kingston, Ontario (Deanna's hometown... A place she had been called to once before after leaving Rock Star – INXS for something called Feb Fest, which turned into Wet Fest as her performance got rained out). And the second night in Burlington, ON at a place called Big Buck’s Mountain Lodge.

My wife and I went to both shows. The first night we had the best seats in the house as far as the sound was concerned and the next night “like 19 year old teenagers seeing our first Rock Concert”, we were front row center leaning on the stage.

The only “real” difference between the two performances, (consistency being the mark of a true professional) were the outfits each Rock Star wore on successive nights. I will cover “Fashion” in greater detail in an addendum but for now I will tell the story as if it were 1 show. Ready… Set… Go…

The ticket stubs said the concert was to begin at 9:00 pm and we had gotten there early (6:30) and grabbed the best seats in the house and then watched as the place filled to a Sold Out capacity of 550 people.

At 9:00 pm as promised… The Sean Cotton Band took the stage. Many of you may remember that when Suzie performed The Stones classic START ME UP, last year on Rock Star – INXS (Week 7) that she began by shouting out… “This one’s for SEAN in Canada!” This indeed was the same “Sean” that she had given the shout out to a year before. A 4 piece band with Sean on vocals and electric guitar, a bass player, drums and a keyboard player. They did a very nice sort of roots rock with a little funk and blues infusion 45 minute first set and then took a break. At 10:00 a DJ from the local Kingston radio station K-Rock 105.7 introduced The Rock Star Road Show and first to come out wearing a very tasty red (just above the knee) dress with a kind of a flared skirt. (Sorry ladies… I am not too good at this part)

Anyway… Tara opened like gang busters with a Led Zepplin song called simply ROCK ‘N’ ROLL but most of you may know it now as the soundtrack to the Cadillac commercials. She followed that up with an original song called SOMETIMES WANNA DIE from a band she used to be in called “Joydrop”.
I might as well say this right now and get it out of the way… We often Pooh-pooh “reality” TV but I will have to give credit to Mark Burnett here. The Tara Slone that you came to know and love on Rock Star is the same exact Tara Slone that exists in person. The same for all of the other Rock Stars… Your impression of the way they sang and the way they moved on stage is exactly what you saw in person. So I would have to say that Mr. Burnett (in the performances at least) captured the REAL essence of these Rock Stars.

Tara sang like Tara sang and Tara danced like Tara danced and Tara moved like Tara moved and it was all truly wonderful. It is too bad she left Rock Star so early; though I would be loathe to say who should have gone before her. Anyway… seeing Tara was like reconnecting with an old acquaintance, someone you had wished you had gotten to know better at the time and were now being given a second chance.

Then Tara introduced MiG “Ayyyyyyessssssaaaaa!!!” and after a center stage kiss MiG launched into L…O…L…A… LOLA. And the crowd went wild. Ladies… He was wearing a simple black short sleeved shirt (open to the waist) and faded blue jeans. This was THE MiG that you saw on Rock Star perform incredibly week after week after week. My only regret was that he was NOT wearing a Royal “Red” Canadian Mounted Police jacket as he sang this song.

He followed LOLA with an original song that will NOT be on his forth coming album and YES! MiG does have a record contract with Universal Records… It is going to be a collection of Rock Classics from Peter Frampton’s - Baby I Love Your Way to songs by Green Day. His original was titled NOTHIN’ YOU DO and was a hard rockin’ song… perhaps not quite as hard as his original composition from Week 7 – DO OR DIE, but in the same vein.

Even on a small relatively cramped stage, MiG roamed it and commanded it and connected with the audience at every turn and on more than one occasion “got down on his knees”.

After the applause died down after hi second song was over… MiG announced hometown girl Deanna Johnston to EXTREMELY enthusiastic cheers (another center stage kiss) and the band launched into the very familiar strains of Big Brother and The Holding Companies – PIECE OF MY HEART, Deanna’s “signature” piece and her contribution to Rock Star – INXS kick of program A Night at The Mayan.

EDITORS NOTE: I am old enough to have been able to hear Janis Joplin sing this song, but never had the opportunity. When she died, I thought that opportunity had been lost forever. Appx. 12 years ago, when Melissa Etheridge was in her prime… I was fortunate enough to hear her do it from the Nose Bleed section of The OMNI Sports Arena in Atlanta and went WOW! That is what it would have been like to be at The Fillmore and hear Janis Joplin do that song live.

Since then I have heard Deanna do this song live 3 times with an electric band, twice with an acoustic guitar accompaniment only and then twice again this last weekend with The Rock Star Road Show.
IF… like me, you feel that you have missed out on a part of classic Americana by never having heard Janis Joplin sing while she was alive and you EVER get the chance to see Deanna Johnston perform LIVE… Drive 2,500 miles round trip if you have to. It is worth it just to KNOW what it would have been like to see/hear Janis Joplin perform this song.

Her second song was an original by her song writing partner Shawn Rorie called TRAIN WRECK. It has a kind of a Big Bawdy feel to it, “Like a TRAIN WRECK Comin’ Down The Track… Outa Control!”

You know how when you go to a concert from your favorite artist and you mostly want to hear them do the songs that you already know? You are interested in what they have been “up to” lately… but unless the song really grabs you, it is always kind of “Ho-Hum … That will make a nice filler song for the next album. “

EDITORS NOTE: I had heard this song before… about 1 month before at a Songwriters Showcase Deanna and Shawn (Rorie) had done in Nashville with just an acoustic guitar back-up and then on Deanna’s web site, but… The rest of the audience was hearing it for the first time and you could tell that this one reached out and GRABBED hold of people there and pulled them onto the TRAIN as it rolled through.
Next up… Mr. Ty Taylor!

Ty is VERY buff and came out in a black short sleeved t-shirt with very lightly stenciled gold stars on the upper chest and shoulders and black jeans. And I must say… Ty was perhaps my biggest surprise of this whole trip. When he came out he electrified the place. We were already in high gear with Tara singing Led Zepplin, MiG doing LOLA and Deanna channeling Janis Joplin but out comes Ty and he “Emeril’d It!” He … KICKED IT UP A NOTCH!

Gone were the kind of hokey, “too theatrical for INXS”, happy, Electric Company… good time vibe and instead was a raw… earthy, “sexual” stud that got DOWN to the music rather than an UP beat performance. He started with an original of his called I BELIEVE IN LOVE and as a “guy” I don’t know exactly what the difference is between an ELVIS that makes young girls wanna forget everything they have been taught in Sunday school and a Lukas, who makes you want to run and get your nails done. But I know “it” when I see “it” and believe me… IF Ty had performed like this last year on RS-INXS… he very likely WOULD have become the lead singer for INXS. He was a changed man… and all for the better.

His second song, also an original, was called FLYING TRAPEZE. He introduced it and kind of poked fun at his “soulfulness” and said that a lot of people thought this song had very “spiritual” overtones and he said… “Nah… It’s about getting it on!” And with that he proceed to do just that again. A very kind of slow, funk, hard drivin, bass pounding, pelvis thrusting number worthy of Tom Jones in his early years.

Did I say the crowd was LOVIN’ IT! If it weren’t for the fact that everyone was already standing… He would (in my opinion) have gotten a standing ovation (and the encore) for this performance BOTH of his own original material.

Then Ty had the privilege to introduce… Drum Roll Please….

SWEET SUZIE McNEIL

Suzie was Suzie… I don’t know any other way to say it… Smiling, Beaming… Happy to be there… Welcoming all of us to their show. And then she started to sing like only Suzie can…

Oh, life is bigger
It's bigger than you
And you are not me
The lengths that I will go to
The distance in your eyes
Oh no, I've said too much
I set it up

Then the band comes in like SuperNova can only hope to equal someday and she RAAAAAWKS the rest of LOSING MY RELIGION.

Can someone say “Ryan Who?”

Remember a couple of weeks ago when things had gotten so bad on Rock Star that Ryan sat down at piano and did a MiG impersonation by doing a solo piano accompaniment of himself sing “Losing My Religion” and we were all so starved for something good to happen on Rock Star – SuperNova that we all thought it was Fabulous!
They even gave him the encore…

It was nothing… Compared to Suzie McNeil’s version of this song. Might as well try and keep a candle lit in a hurricane as try to compare Ryan’s sophomore effort to Suzie “The Real Deal” McNeil AWESOME! Is a much over used word, but here it is the right one.

Suzie followed that up with an original of her own called RUNNING TO STAND STILL and also grabbed the audience in a way that original tunes, being played fore the first time usually don’t but the power of Suzie’s voice and the total command of the space she is in just draws you in and then she gives you everything you had ever hoped for from her.

With that… It was 11:00… Had 1 hour really gone by so quickly? Each performer had only done 2 songs. For the most part 1 original and 1 cover but yes… It was 11:00 and time for The Band to take a break. But as they did… MiG came on stage and got behind his solo electric baby grand piano and said that this song… WOULD be on his forth coming album… Which should be out later this year or at the very latest January 2007. He said… That he had some guest artists play on his album with him and oddly enough… Peter Frampton plays with MiG on BABY I LOVE YOUR WAY and then MiG treated us to his version from Rock Star – INXS that we are SO familiar with.

When he was finished… The band came back out and Ty came on once again and since he hadn’t done any covers the first go round… He did… (Can you all guess… OK say it in unison… On the count of three. 1… 2… 3… NO WOMAN NO CRY.

UNFRICKINGBELIEVABLE… This was one of the true “moments” from Season One of Rock Star INXS and Ty performing it LIVE… as only Ty can… I am sorry, I can not possibly convey with words what it was like to be there to see/hear this performance. For this one… You woulda hadta been there.

By the way this songs arrangement and execution was helped in no small way by the fact that MiG had stayed and Tara had come out on stage and added background vocals for Ty. When it was sadly over… Ty gave way to Tara and Tara came out and did another of her originals.

MY LITTLE SECRET – Raaaaawks! In much the same way that a song like My Sharona makes you wanna get up ands dance only this was heavier with a much more powerful vocal. GAWD could she be used on RS – SuperNova this year.

Then it was Deanna’s turn again with another Shawn Rorie collaboration called TAKE OFF THEM BOOTS.

IF you have ever heard the Tom Jones “strippers” song they used in The Full Monty called YOU CAN KEEP YOUR HAT ON (Joe Cocker also has a classic version of the same tune) and if you remember Shania’s Twain’s Big Hit… Whose BED HAVE YOUR BOOTS BEEN UNDER? IF these two songs were to get “married” and they produced an off-spring. It would be this song.

EDITORS NOTE: I was fortunate enough to be present at another Songwriter’s Showcase event of sorts. Actually, it was an Earth Day concert in 1994 and Mary Chapin Carpenter was performing an acoustic set with her producer, collaborator and guitarist John Jennings and they played for the first time publicly a song called SHUT UP AND KISS ME… I could tell instantly that this song would be her next HIT!

This song has that same kind of “feel” to it. First off it busts into your ears as if were a Big and Rich tune… The first line being…

“ Well I stole into the room like a frantic hurricane “

And then it gets sexy and playful and you can just imagine… IF Shania Twain were to record this song… It would be a HIT already.

Anyway… The song was infectious. Deanna did a KILLER performance of it and the crowd was really digging it.

Now it was Sweet Suzie McNeil’s turn again and she performed an original that I have to BELIEVE is the signature piece and “anchor” of her new CD. (that is “in the can” but no release date yet) When it does get released… RUN don’t walk and BUY IT! For this song alone. Oh… By the way… “BELIEVE” is the title of the song and I would hate to say the song has a “gospel feel to the chorus, because I BELIEVE that would be in accurate. It DOES however have a very “soaring” inspirational chorus that just lifts you up and carries you away and you can’t help but put your arms up in the air and start slowly waving them back and forth to the beat of the music AND… Sing Along.

IF YOU BE-LEE-EEE-EEE-EEE-EVE…

It’s not really FAIR to compare one song to another BUT… I would have to say that this song was The Pinnacle of the evening. Again standing ovation material if everyone wasn’t already standing.

AND NOW… The FUN Begins!

MiG comes out and bring ALL of the Rock Stars with him and he launches into his Week 5 song ALL RIGHT NOW by Free/Paul Rodgers and as we like to say… RAAAAAAAAWWWWKS! The Joint.

Then Tara does the David Bowie classic and her Week 3 offering SUFFRAGETTE CITY and she RAAAAAWWWWKS!

Deanna… Week 5, The Doobie Brothers – LONG TRAIN RUNNIN’
RAAAAAAAAAAWWWWWWWWWK!

Remember… All of the Rocker’s have been on stage helping each other out with harmonies… Dance steps… Camaraderie and then things quiet down and Ty Taylor comes to the microphone to remind us that … YOU CAN’T ALWAYS GET WHAT YOU WANT and never was a prettier background choir assembled than Suzie, McNeil, Tara Slone, Deanna Johnston and MiG Ayessa.

Ty takes this song and as they say… Makes it his own. Again I am speechless at how to convey what a treat it was to be there and hear music like this performed the way it should be LIVE in front of adoring but critical fans who will be singing this song all the way back home.

The way they cranked this one up… You could tell, THIS was The Finale. This was going to be their last song of the night and the ROCKED it as long as they could and then just when it seemed that they couldn’t go anymore… They began to double time it. WHEW!

When they finished the audience was spent, exhausted, collapsed, but then cheered and erupted with shouts and screams and whistles as the 5 of them took their bows, congratulated each other, thanked the band and thanked us…. The audience. And then left the stage as the band continued to play the final refrain. The the band stopped and it was over.

But the applause went on and on and on…

Applause… Applause… Applause… Applause… Applause…

Wolf whistles… Shouts, Screams… Stomping feet.

Would there be an encore?

Well of course there would… BUT… Like all good encores you have to wait. I’ll be back tomorrow and tell you all about what happened next.

Anyone care to hazard any guesses?

“I” normally don’t beg for recognition myself, BUT… just this once, IF you have read this and it sounded like a concert you would have enjoyed seeing and hearing… Add a comment. If all you say is

“Applause!”

That will be enough…

Lurkers… I respect your privacy but just this once add something… 1 “CLAP!” will be enough and if you are a visitor, go ahead and sign in just once and let us know you were here…

Perhaps the more “Applause!” we get… The sooner the ENCORE will be posted.

Until Then…

What's Crackin' Nicole!
I was just pondering what you wrote about Zayra & Robert Plant....There is one thing I feel I must elaborate on.......Robert Plant led one of the greatest Rock Bands in History for many, many years & true nowadays his vocals are anything but "peaking" but just because the death of his bandmates quite possibly could have let the air out of his Zeppelin or that age has a way of taking their toll on our vocal chords, he's paid his dues for Rock n' Roll & inspired several millions in the process! To compare Plant to Zayra is like comparing Elvis Presley to William Hung(the little asian fellow off American Idol)!
Furthermore, Zayra butchers every song she attempts....There are flat notes, screwed up tempos & massacred lyrics......Tommy Tutone should sue her for defamation of lyrics & the way she dresses would make a train take a dirt road!
It is not my intent to offend but that comparison is a NO-NO!!!
Later!!!
Keep on Rockin!!!!!

Ole captain of rock, our Dear Nikki, and I am sure she will speak for herself also, has these bouts' I guess you could say of manic dramaticism, yes, sad but true, well she does tend to snort a few corn curls and pork rinds and get all wound up on grape soda, and for sheer argument sake, she like my St, Jude, becomes the drama queen patron saint of lost causes. Yep, its an affliction, but , it is better than dropping baby brother in a well! I luv my DQ Sister Nikki!
She is very very smart but equally dramatic. I hope I splanned it well enough.

I bet ole Robet P has a raspy voice these days, a-la Rod Stewart??

Will -oops-

I used to watch the Styx guitarist tommy Shaw play perfectly "stairway to heaven" when he was a teenager, at a bowling ally lounge here, it was something to behold from a then scraggley teen! Love the ZEP!!

I get what Bill is trying to say about Dilana, but his analogy is a bit off, in my opinion. I am a guitarist who has the requisite 10 pedals (and fuzz is one type of distortion). But I'll be the first to admit I'm just an OK guitarplayer. The pedals do nothing for my ability. They just happen to fit the style of music my band is trying to put together.

But there are a boatload of great (and I mean great) guitarists out there who do nothing more than clean and/or distortion (see most jazz guitarist). My point is, the number of effects, vocal stylings or whatnot have very little connection to whether someone is good guitar player or singer. It's how you use what you got that counts.

Jill's a good example of this. Yes, she could scream (and it sucked), add some nice vocal flutters to some notes, etc. But she didn't know the proper time to use her effects. That's exactly why she wouldn't work for Supernova. She should be fronting a Heart tribute band.

I'm SO upset that Josh is gone! I wanted to meet him so badly.

Jill on the other hand is a loss to drama in the house, but that's about it.

I really enjoyed Nicole's Zrant, I don't think that Zayra has a good voice, but I don't really think that it's really arguable that she has an amusing and pretty good stage presence.

Does anyone know what one wears to these things? I'm thinking jeans and a tshirt, but my sister is dying her hair pink and cutting up some clothing ... lol. I think I might be a bit "square".

Ok, I have to stand up for Robert Plant, I saw him in concert last year and he was great. No one sounds like him!

CAPN of rock, who cares what others think(well, most the time I do), my kids think momRocks is dumb, but their friends kept saying "your mom rocks", so I used it for a name. Not too many moms take the family to see Judas Priest, and Steve Vai or Queen!
As for Magni, I think he has a really good chance. The fact he's a family man might help him out, two of SN talk about their kids quite a bit. Also, rockin to the max each week can't hurt either!!

Miss Mcarey if you're going to the live show, PLEASE let us know what goes on! I'm with you, too bad Josh couldn't stay on longer, I love his style!

Mirrorball, you are right, not a perfect analogy, I guess I jumped the gun showing the guest that the idea of her or any of the rockers limitations at some point on this site and many many other has be mentioned as a point of contention.

As, a coach, I alway imprinted the fact that is not what you have but what you do with what you have which I believe is your point. Thanks for keeping me straight! Bill does use a lot of guitar analogies in his post, a songwriter and very entertaining. Just put it like this she gets all she can get of of her assets and that should be admired. Even so I don't think she is versitile enough, but I will wish her well it she gets the job or not. I do think she should stop dancing in the endzone at this early stage though. Will

Hi, I thought he (Josh) was the most talented on the show. I wish your cuz the best, she is my favorite, God I would love to do her album cover, a wicked, funny, sexy , beauty!!

Wear you some dramatic eye make-up a T-shirt and some big ear rings and a big smile and have a blast!!

We want a detailed, infinitely so, description of your impressions and what we don't see on TV.

I am soooooooo jealous!! Will -oops-

Will. I hear ya. I should have included that I do agree with you and Bill. I'm not 100 pct sold on Dilana just yet. Heck, I'm not 100 pct sold on any of them just yet. I only know that Zayra and Patrice should go.

Dave seems very distracted or detached, seems to me like he'd like to bail the whole thing. I think he is out of sorts over his committments and love life. Will

this is from what I observe and reading his blog at 6767.com. I read it during the show for insight!

Ummm...the fact that Navarro is one of the creators of the show, part owner, and one of its Executive Producers....

WILL!! You just admitted to being at least my age, if not older considering that Tommy was in MS Funk and quit playing bowling alleys about 1975...

BTW - Tommy bought a place here in Texas in the past year or so. We get lots of radio-station sponsored "Classic Rock" shows headed by "Styx-Lite" (sans Dennis).
