Tonight on Rock Star: Supernova was the night we all eagerly awaited. We had our first double elimination. Unfortunately it was not the two rockers we all wanted to be rid of, Pamela-lite and Soccer Mom. Oh well, it was still fun to see! We also got a double encore tonight, making the show double cool.
First up was the part of the show that tests my typing speed. As they didn't talk to Mumbly or Ken, I had little trouble keeping up with the interview and recaps tonight. First up was the mansion before last night's show. Gilby Clarke paid the rockers a surprise visit to present them with 10 shiny new guitars from Gibson. Then we were on to the recap of song selection, focusing on the fact that Dilana was the only one who wanted the song that would be with Gilby Clarke. After the performance night, the rockers had their traditional celebration to a wonderful show. Jill Gioia told everyone that they were nuts to not take the opportunity to rock with Gilby. If they're all there to front Supernova why didn't they fight for the song. Storm Large wonders why Jill didn't do it, and Jill says she already rocked with Gilby (and bombed I might add). Storm wanted "We Are The Champions" and doesn't feel pressured to sing with the band. Zayra Alvarez says that if you pick a song just because of Supernova and don't think if it will suit you, you just hang yourself. Storm and Zayra have excellent points however it seemed to me that Dilana wasn't overly familiar with the song she picked. She stepped up however because she wanted to prove something.
Dave Navarro talked to Summer Sprinkles about her comment that she knows she can rock with Gilby. He wants to know how Gilby knows that. Storm says Gilby knows her history and background and hopes he knows that she wouldn't hump him. She adds that she would break his back. Gilby says it's a matter of chemistry and they need to feel that. Dilana was awesome and showed guts taking the song.
Tommy Lee talked to Brooding Ryan Star wondering what happened to the quiet reserved guy. He loves that Broodstar is coming out of his shell. He adds that there is something about the way he moves that makes him uncomfortable. Broodstar loves that he makes Tommy Lee uncomfortable. Gilby liked that they saw they saw something from everyone that they hadn't seen. He tells everyone that those who make it through the night will go with the guys to Las Vegas on a private jet. Tommy adds they will go to the Hard Rock and Casino where will be playing with one of them (the winner) on New Year's Eve.
Jason announced that it was too tough to pick just one encore, so they did two. First encore went to our own Mumbly- Skunkly - Lukas Rossi. Lukas was even better tonight than last night. He enunciated his words better and just totally rocked. It was like he got an injection of confidence and is running with it. I can totally see him fronting the band if he keeps this up.
The second encore went to Magni, who performed a plugged in version of his song last night. Magni told House Band that he missed them. It was also really cool, and I can see him too as the lead singer for the band.
Finally on to our favorite part - the elmination. Worldwide voting was up 22% from last week, but it still left Jill, Josh Logan, Zayra, Broodstar, and Soccer Mom Patrice Pike in the bottom at some point during the voting. Dave wasn't surprised, as there were a lot of similar faces. First into the bottom was NOT Zayra. She was the first safe! Jill however did land in the bottom. She decided on Aretha Franklin's Respect as rock and roll is based on the blues. First thing I thought is that House Band is * awesome. Jill... not so much.
Next into the bottom was Josh, leading poor Tommy to admit he's getting a complex! He thought the two of them were awesome. Josh admitted he would be disappointing the group again, as he would be once again be strapping on the guitar that got him into trouble last night. He performed Shooting Star by Bad Company. Even strapped to a guitar he was cool and funky. I love that he has always stayed true to himself, but still tries to listen to the band.
Last into the bottom was Broodstar, who was actually a little excited about it. Jason Newsted was surprised however and wondered what happened. He thought maybe people were getting confused as Ryan went from the piano to the weird eye makeup thing. Broodstar chose to do Enjoy the Silence by Depeche Mode, but changed the arrangment a bit to make it more current. His performance was totally awesome. I can start to see him fronting the band too. This will be a hard selection for Supernova in the end to pick who the winner is.
Gilby said that they didn't agree again. Jill was in the bottom three three times now but sang her way out each time. Josh has a good voice but wonders if it will cut through the loud guitars. He adds that there is a right and wrong time to play the guitar. Ryan has been building up over the last couple of week but they wonder if he's comfortable on stage. Ryan deserves another chance however. Tommy tells everyone that this week will be a first, as it's do or die. The axe falls on both of them. Jill says thanks and it was incredible and yadda yadda. Josh thanks them saying he knew he was different from them. He questions if that means he can't go to Vegas. The rockers laugh, leading Josh to "yell" at them that he just got cut and he is serious - though from his smile I wonder if he was. Jason tells them that their spirit will be missed, and that Josh showed undeniable cool.
Okay, so I'm REALLY disappointed now that Soccer Mom wasn't in the Bottom three as she would have been eliminated with Jill. But you can't have everything. Perhaps Patty will finally leave us next week, but I'm too afraid to hold my breath! I really wonder if there is something about her that comes off better in person than on TV? Perhaps those who have seen the show in person can chime in on that aspect!
Magni really surprised me the other night. That being said, I think in the end Supernova will go with a male singer, so that means Magni, Lukas will definitely be the last two standing.
They are getting rid of the people deserve to keep trying instead of getting rid of Zayra Alvarez. She sucks! She should have been the first to go. The only reason she is still around is becuase people like to watch her Embarrass herself.
Even though I hate to admit...I really really dont like Lukas,,,but Geeezzzz,,,Man...tonight...he simply blew out my mind with his vocals,am crossing my fingers for Dilana,,now,I was 100% confirmed Dilna would front the Band,,,but after hearing to Lukasvocals today...I dont know
I don't understand the whole "soccer mom" thing. Patrice didn't deserve to be in the bottom 3 after her performance of Instant Karma, and the voting proved that. Patrice has a lot of fans (myself included) who spent hours upon hours voting last night. And it might be a little while until you see Patrice sent packing. She is insanely talented, and I don't understand how people can't see that.
Josh was by far my favorite, but he didn't fit with the band and I think he knew that. I wouldn't be surprised if we hear from him again. I agree with comments that the band is a "work in progress", but here is a question; who's personality would work best with the band? Does it need to be someone who is stong and does their own thing (Lady Z) or someone who would do what ever the band wanted (Soccer Mom)?
(Major issues with my computer, so comments will be few and far between until we get it fixed)
If you can't be a good example, then be a horrible warning!
First of all Patrice's performance of Instant Karma was a disgrace. It's hard to hear many redeeming qualities in her. Lukas probably fits the band the best followed by Dilana. The shame of the whole show is nobody has a clue what the band will sound like making it hard to project who fits the band. Having said that then they (the band) need to predict who will contribute the most to the product...do they take a yes man, or a personality that they work with to build a product
Zayra is a disgrace...it's amazing to me that she even made the top 15 out of the thousands and thousands who must have tried out! Personally, I think they're keeping her around to keep themselves and the audience entertained...unfortunately for her, she's not even attractive to look at...
Finally! Common sense prevails and they boot two people at once. Jill totally needed to go. Josh has a great voice but is not right for the band.
I didn't like Ryan's rendition of "Paint it Black" but I was a bit surprised he made the bottom three. I thought he recovered quite nicely tonight. I really liked his version of "Enjoy the Silence." Dare I say it kicked butt.
I liked Lukas' encore of "Creep" a lot better than Tuesday night's show.
Each has been on the road with talented-but-ill-behaved lead singers. Jason and Tommy have both been through rehab (don't know about Gilby). How much bad behavior/stupid drunken antics are going to be tolerated out of their new lead singer? If this is a factor, then several of the remaining singers don't have a prayer - regardless of their talent level.
Note to "guest" who commented on another thread about how "hot" Tommy is - EEEEWWWW!!! YUCK!! Next, someone will spout on about how hot Keith Richards is...NOT!!
Finally, I have to add that being at the Hard Rock Hotel on New Year's Eve isn't what it they are promoting it to be! Been there, done that! We won a trip from a radio station to stay there NYE1996/1997. If you like stepping around vomit and people passed out every couple of feet, then its the place to be! The Hard Rock Hotel closed every extra amenity...for example, their legendary pool was closed from when we arrived NYE morning through at least the evening of NY's Day...it was disappointing...
P.S. - Hi, regulars! Hi Curlio and Dusty! I have Tuesday and Wednesday night "places to be" so I'm not around much.
Puhlese people .... c'mon .. Zayra has something different and new.. her dress sense is really great and she CAN MOST DEFINETELY SING !!!! how do u think she's getting her votes huh ? people like her enough to keep her in the top 10 and now in the top 8 !!
Sure no one wants her to win including me (cause thatz reserved for either dilana or lukas or storm ) but frankly now , i don't mind soccer mom going .....
All u Zayra lovers ( i.e if any exist ) show some support for this star ! But REMEMBER NOT TO FORGET THE WINNERS > DILANA LUKAS STORM & MAGNI .
tc
Congratulations to Zayra for lasting another week!!! And congrats 4 all yous who voted 4 her! As 4 the results (the show just ended over here in New Zealand) FINALLY JILL is gone. Does anyone actually like her? I always see people hassling soccer mom and Zayra and its always followed by there fans sending angry violent messages back defending them.... but no one seems to mind if people hassle Jill.
JILL SUCKS AND IM GLAD SHES GONE!!!!!!! If Jill has any fans out there can you please post an angry reply, just so I know if she has any fans.
Josh was one my favourites so gutted hes gone, although he clearly wasn't what they were looking for. Good luck to Josh 4 the future!!!
Gerza
P.S. this is a cool site
thanks 4 who eva runs it
Ouch! It's too early in the am for so much Zayra bashing. Some of you guests just don't 'get' her and that's cool. You remind me of my grandparents who still complain that Led Zeppelin is not real music cuz that guy screams too much.
The Zayra love is growing. I've seen it all over the web. People are sick of cute singers with electronically enhanced vocals and are thirsty for a long cold drink of pure genuine crazy. And whoever said she's not attractive, you're bonkers. Nobody else on that show (with the possible exception of Dave Navarro who is remarkably fit) could pull off a gold lamee cat suit. The woman doesn't have an ounce of fat on her.
Ha ha ha ha - they CAN"T get rid of Zayra yet! of course she sings out of tune, dresses inappropriately and isn't familiar with most of the songs she sings, it doesn't take Einstein to figure that! BUT she somehow manages to have the IT factor - certainly not to front Supernova, but to keep us watching! Love her or hate her - she's a scream! and she keeps us wondering what she'll do next - no matter how awful! <grin>.
There's only ever been two contenders for this band - Jason & Dilana - everyone is FANTASTIC in their own right, but it's all about who will suit this band - and either one of them will do it well.
Again, I'd be very surprised if they pick a woman to join this group of old rockers, but Dilana suits 'em like bees and honey, she's not only a great rocker, she's "of their vintage" so won't look out of place as with INXS's choice, she knows the biz, and is on the same level.
The only time she made me cautious was when she got all emotional about a performance a week or two ago - what was that??!!
Her voice has GUTS!!!
Jill facing elimination for the 3rd time and she chooses to do a lame-ass Aretha Franklin' song ??? Break out a freaking old Motley song or something-c'mon . A real ding bat move there! This ain't no R&B band audition.Too bad the axe couldn't have fallen three times and we could have gotten rid of Zayra Martinez or whatever the h*ll her name is.Obviously they're keeping Zayra and Ryan around....just for laughs. You think Zata or whatever acts stupid now, wait til they get her to sin city and get some alcohol into her .
Thanks for the recap! I am dissapointed that Josh is gone and not SoccerMom. I knew he wouldn't win, but I liked seeing the local boy do good (he's from Manchester which is like 15 mins from where I live).
And thank goodness for small prayers in that Jill is finally gone!
ok if i where the two that got kicked of i would have told gilbey clark i don't remeber you being in guns and roses in the beginning, then i would have told tommy lee you where in a glam rock band called motley crew, and last but not least didn't jason newsted leave the greatest band in the world? or did they kick him out? it crackes me up what people would do to make money and get back fame and fortune. come on people has the wolrd ended yet. next thing you know paris hilton will be a guest judge. give me a break no one these days really knows what talent is

I actually have no trouble at all picturing Zayra and Dave married (he's newly available you know), sharing a wardrobe. "Hey Z babe? You gonna wear that gold lamee catsuit tonight?" "No honey, I want to wear something more shiny" "Okay, then I can wear it - thanks babe"

I was actually sorry to to see a double elimination. This is hearsay but a poster I read said Burnett was called in by CBS to do something or else with the show, the ratings have not improved from week to week and it is percieved that the singers aren't good enough or something is lacking. Last year it was known to be shortened by a week with a double elimination and the shifting of the the reality show to VH!. This year, the reality is on the net which is fine for me but not so for others, without the reality bit, you only have the singing and I am truely a people person rather an "it's about the music, man" person. So, I like the whole deal and they probably devalued the impact of the reality show on the core/hardened fan llike myself an many who relish the who package. It wouldn't be 1/10 the show it is if not for the whole.
Shenove, glad to see your post!! Missed you! Beanstalker, sorry about your puter', miss your post as well.
About the show, I was suprised that Ryan is in the bottom three. I'll miss Josh and Jill, Josh got some great exposure and will be picked-up by some band or get a solo deal going. America and the world has a basic aversion to the NJ , italian, or as Dave says, "Carmella", affectations and she probably never had a chance here, she is a pistol and has the pipes. But, that Streisand back talking is tough on the nerves. Sprout if you get to read this, don't you think there is something ballsey about the girl that in some way reminds you of our Diva, (Barbara's voice is one of a kind, of coarse)?
Ryan is improving his image on the show and is definitely back in contention. Everyone but Patrice and Z are in contention.
The bottom three is controlled by voting and with a four hour opportunity to do so, well, it opens the door to all kinds of aberations in the outcomes, you have Mexico and Hawaii and the Philipines and other places. You have ethnocentric pressures, and the idiot obsessed. I mean I love Stormy and voted three for her and one for Josh. I am sure you have folks voiting for Z and D and L and M like crazy, regardless of the performance.
I'll close for now and interact more later. Best wished Mr. Sprout, where ever you are! Will
Dusty, I wish you good luck in finding a reality show re-capper. I wish I had the ability and time. I am afraid you and Nurse Curlio and king Sproutster have given me an inferiority complex with your skills. I am due for some major surgery( athletic damage) , which may or may not be soon. Anyhoo! maybe we can continue this thread with the high points and what impresses us. That is if all else fails, I have omitted posting for the last two weeks, until Sprouts request, for fear of spoiling or giving away something. will
