Rock Star: Supernova saves Soccer Mom again curlio
 2006-08-16 21:34:10
Television Normally I wouldn't blow the results in the title of the recap, but I'm just so disgusted with tonight's results that I just can't take it. It's not that I mind overly much who went home. It's that she didn't take Soccer Mom home with her. How many more weeks will we have to put up with Patrice Pike on Rock Star: Supernova before Supernova gets the idea that the public doesn't like her? How many weeks has had to at least stand up for the entire elimination show? She has been saved so many times that it's just sickening. Anyhow, on with the recap.

After last night's performance, Storm Large was upset about her performance. She says she took her vocals seriously but not necessarily the song. Ryan Star wondered if she could stay out of the bottom three, while Lukas Rossi thought she would be in the bottom three. Storm watched her performance on v-cast and had no problem with it. She said if they didn't like it, she can't take it personally but she knows she's good enough.

Back to the show and Dave Navarro talked to Storm about her performance. He stood by what he said. Storm said she gave it 1000% as it might not be her favorite but it's someone's favorite. She did the best with the time and material she had. Dave would have liked to have seen a more ironic version, like the one done by a band called Cake. Dave says Storm can take the type of criticism they have been dealing out to her. On to Dave and Toby Rand, Dave commented that people like to see Toby naked.Toby said that it was boring aroudn the house and that for next week he'll run down Melrose Ave. naked.

Then it was time for a special announcement, the band would be performing with someone tonight, as they want to test someone out. The crowd shouts for Dilana. Then we went to a clip, where the rockers had an assignment to check out a new Supernova track. Then they go to the studio to get the news that each week one of the rockers will play with Supernova on one of their original tracks. Each of the rockers sang the same song in the studio, giving Supernova the chance to compare how each rocker would add to the band. Lukas' mouth motions during the recording bothered me a lot. Gilby Clarke, back in the present, says that no one has won yet, and the contest is far from over. But someone has to be the first to sing with them. As a lot of people think a woman can't front the band, they chose Dilana for this week.

Dilana and Supernova performed "Leave the Lights On." I thought it was a great song, I can totally see Dilana with Supernova. I thought the dancing girls were a bit cheesy. It definitely seemed all rehearsed, as Dilana did a bit of a dance too. Jason Newsted thought it was fun and that the dancing girls were a nice touch. Tommy Lee gave the girls a shout out as they were from some club, the name of which I didn't bother to write down.

Jason said the encore tonight went to Ryan. Ryan performed In The Air Tonight by Phil Collins again, about the same as last night. There really wasn't anything new to add to it.

Then it was time for the bottom three. Zayra Alvarez was first into the bottom, leaving Storm outraged. Patrice and Toby Rand were also in the bottom three. As the voting went on, Magni and Storm (who seemed happy to land in the bottom) managed to land in the bottom three at some point too. Dave was surprised as he thought Magni was great. Storm didn't belong there either according to Dave, even if he didn't like the performance last night.

First into the bottom was Zayra. She sang "Razorblade" by Blue October, as it's an intense song. If one only listens to Zayra she's probably not that great. But she is so much fun to watch, I would totally go to her concert! She makes me smile.

Next up was Soccer Mom, and honestly I just want to gouge my ears out at this point. She was originally going to do a ballad as her bottom three song, but decided to change to Celebrity Skin by Hole. Even without watching her you can hear the cheesy smile. I wonder if she can sing anything without being the delighful "I just took a huge dose of Prozac and don't have any real emotions left in my body" Soccer-Mom-ish! UGH! My anger just overwhelms me at this point. She even happily walked out to the Supernova platform.

Magni performed last. He decided on Creep by Radiohead, as it's the anthem of his generation. Honestly he's just a WOW performer. It was completely awesome both stage presence and vocal wise.

Down to decision time, and Gilby tells Zayra that they love risk, and it was a huge risk to do her original and do a song they've never heard. Patrice keeps landing in the bottom three, even though they enjoy her performances. Magni was great last night and tonight and gets to go sit back down. Tommy says that Patrice has potential for Supernova but Zayra doesn't. So Zayra has to go. Come on - Patrice has potential for the band? Give me a * break! It's not so much that they didn't send Soccer Mom home, it's that they said she had potential for the band. That is honestly what made me furious. Send them both home - but no, we had to have a double elimination when Soccer Mom wasn't in the Bottom three thank you ever so much. Zayra got the usual you're so talented speech from Dave and Jason and said that she was honored to be there.

SOCCER MOM MUST GO HOME NEXT WEEK!

Well Im a Dilana fan through and through. I dont give a rats *what anyone else says. Her voice is unique and raw and thats what people wanna see. A woman with balls and the guts to get up there with a bunch of talented men from three well known rock bands and just rock it out!!!! Well everyone in the audience wanted to see her perform. Dilana just stands out more because its just something different from what you usually see. I just dont think the other contestants voices would suit Supernova, theyre all different but they have to sound right for the band. I like Lukas and Storm too. I think theyre the strong performers.
.
Patrice? Well..... I dont really like her vocals. The only song I liked from her was Instant Karma

Zayra. She was funny. Especially that 867 call Jenny song or whatever. And that lepord print? Classic! lol.But you cant forget the golden one piece spandex suit with that big willy wonka hat! I liked that song she sang though

Magni. Loved the encore! Great song. I almost cried. Beautiful vocals. Magni-ficent

Toby. Ok, this guys just not doing anything for me quite frankly. Im from New Zealand but I would rather vote for someone else. His vocals are good but not mind blowing like Lukas's or Magnis. Can you see him front Supernova?

Lukas. I loved this guy from the moment I heard him sing in the 2nd week. I just love his onstage persona and his aura. Hes such a bad boy. And check out that skunk hair! Crunk!

Storm! I love her attitude. Its a no nonsense kinda attitude. Her vocals are top notch! Thats all i have to say
(She will survive)....

Ryan. Man the only bone I have to pick with this guy is that he always frowns! Its like 'dude whats up with that?'. I know its probaby part of the whole song and intensity thing but I think he needs to 'change it up a bit' Loved his encore too.

I hope Dilana wins though. It would be great to see a woman front a great band like Supernova. Think of it as the more mature version of Evanesence.

the supernova performance was weak I thought. Total cheeze and cornball, but I guess if that's what they're going for, then they have the right front person as well, with her corny lyrics. don't get me wrong, she's one of the best in the bunch, but she can't write worth a darn, and so it appears neither can the supernova band. i mean, the song was generic, at best. i mean, there was nothing special about the guitars/drums or bass. as far as I'm concerned, it could have been a studio band playing that and not supernova; i wouldn't be able to tell the difference if I didn't already know before hand. I've said it before, I'll say it again, next rock star should be about house band. seriously, that bad rocks.

I agree that Toby isn't setting the world on fire because he might be trying too hard. But one of the best indications as to who IS RIGHT for SN is last weeks originals from the workshop. I've said it before, but I gotta say it again because if anyone can come out and say after Toby's song that he doesn't have the vocal and rythmical ability then I'm not here. For all you yanks, dirty kiwis hate Aussies and vice a versa, bloody sheep shaggers!

Curlio - You got that right!!!

As for the rest, ahem, ~I~ am in Texas but I ain't a native and no, I didn't "get here as fast as I could".

Patrice is big...where? Whatever fans Patrice has in TX certainly do not span all parts of the state...

Dilana is from Houston, Zayra is from Dallas, where the heck is Patrice from?

I can see Zayra hitting big in the Latino clubs across Texas...

Yay!! some people agree with me that dilana shouldn't win!! she's become way overconfident and thinks that she's already the winner. SN have not decided who will win so she shouldn't go around pretending like she's already won the competition. what happened to modest, likable dilana? she dissappeared in week 2. at least the public isnt going to decide who wins, lets just hope SN make a good choice that doesnt involve dilana!!

Patrice is big...where? Ahhhhh, Clive Davis, Rollingstones, and Billboards are 3 of her biggest fans, take that... add Supernova and the entire cast of the show [esp SWEET STORMY] to that list. That's the reason why she's still on the show. 6 letters baby, GOOGLE. Oh btw, her new album is coming out soon. Watch out!!! Who needs Supernova?

Can anyone tell me why this year's RS topics have taken a huge nosedive down "no my contest is awesome your contestant sucks" alley?

They're all good or they wouldn't be there - even Soccer Mom. For me it's just a matter of she's just so obviously not right for SN that Soccer Mom must die. Or at least wipe that cheesy grin off her face.

As for Dilana being too confident - since when did confidence become a bad thing in Rock and Roll? Toby's got that cocky Aussie thing going on, Lukas and Ryan have attitude out the ass, but they're guys so they're allowed to be confident, right? A woman in rock is supposed to be all shy and backwards and humble, right? Well * you with a rubber hose, 'cause women in rock NEED to be confident as heck to be able to deal with all those arrogant men in the world. And yes that goes not only for Storm but for Dilana and even Soccer Mom.

And all of you "Dilana's overconfident" people need to start explaining to me what she's done that shows she's overconfident, 'cause I'm just not seeing it. I see someone playing the game (cause that's what it is - lets face it) and knowing who she is (like any true artist does).

Ahh Curlio you took the words right out of my mouth!

As for the irate Patrice fan(s?), hey it's great you like and support her, thats what this show is about, however having people not like you is also what it's about.
If you go on a reality show (and I'm sure this has been stated many times on these boards in previous posts/articles) you open yourself up to criticism and the fans should remember that.

Curlio, I am totally with you, they are all talented and can sing. It's not a black and white or yes absolutely or no absolutely proposition. We should all and I think most do, put them on a sliding scale fav to least fav and go from there. It is interesting that when we give the Rockers nick names like Latin Swirl or Skunkie some think it is fun and others think it is mean, which of coarse we are just being humerous, we mean no real harm. Some try to out mean us by being derogotory, which is tacky and never our desire.

On the confident question. Sure, as an athlete, confidence was very important. But, confidence with out the temper of humility could be deadly and extremely counter-productive. And, that is just my opinion. I could give you a million examples, or maybe one, when David Caruso was on NYPD blue and was the hottest guy on TV, he dumped the show for the Movies and fizzle like no one in history, his salvation was that he "eventually got it" and went back to TV for which he was extremely marketable. His confidence about a situation that really didn't exist was almost deadly to his career. In sports we'd say don't read your own clippings, you might start believing it.

Just an opinion. Will -oops-

Welcome To RockStar 1 vs. RockStar 2
It's Hard to Beat The Original

THE ENCORE: -- ROCKSTARS -- TY, DEANNA, MIG, SUZIE, TARA. . _______________ BOHEMIAN RHAPSODY __________________

Ty

. . . . . . . YOU'RE ALL STILL HERE! YOU'RE ALL STILL CLAPPING AND STOMPING YOUR FEET...

ALL RIGHT!!! You must want to see... MIG AYESSA... Mr. TY TAYLOR... All the way from LA via Kingston, ONTARIO... Ms. DEANNA JOHNSTON... TORONTO's OWN... SUZIE McNEAL... and TARA SLONE

Applause! Applause! Applause!Applause! Applause! Applause!Applause! Applause! Applause!
SCERAM... CHEER... WHISTLE... STOMP.. CHEER...CLAP... YEEEEEAAAAA! SCREEEECH... ALL RIGHT!

A BRIEF DIGRESSION: One of my favorite movies of all time was ROCKY II. The main reason being (They hadn't made ROCKY 3,4 & 5 yet and all anyone still remembered was the feeling you had as you left the theater like YOU had gone 15 rounds with Apollo Creed and lived to tell about it and you could hear that famous Bill Conti Theme from ROCKY ringing in your ears as Sylvester Stallone called out for the first time... Yo Adrian!

What I liked about ROCKY II was that it began exactly where Rocky I left off not six months or a year later and to get that point across, The beginning of ROCKY II was actually the last 5 minutes of ROCKY I replayed in it's entirety with Apollo Creed saying... "Aint gonna be no rematch" and Rocky replying... "Don't want one" and then of course YO ADRIAN! and...

BAM! You were right back there feeling the same emotion that you were feeling as you left the theater the first time and then the movie went on from there.

I'd like you all to do the same thing right now... Think back to the last paragraph of the first article describing this concert. Remember you had just heard Tara and MiG and Deanna and Suzie do 4 songs each over the last hour and 45 minutes and now you are standing there watching Ty Taylor singing...

Ty2

... YOU CAN'T ALWAYS GET WHAT YOU WANT... YOU CAN'T ALWAYS GET WHAT YOU WANT... NO YOU CAN'T ALWAYS GET WHAT YOU WANT... BUT IF YOU TRY SOMETIMES... YOU JUST MIGHT... GET WHAT YOU NEEEEEED! The band is playing at full volume, MiG and Deanna, Suzie and Tara are singing gospel choir background and then one by one they walk off the stage as the band continues playing in double time... Until finally they end and walk off stage to wild cheers and now you CLAP and you wait and you CLAP and you wait... and then... just when you don't think you can last any longer... They come back.

The Back up band is set up just like The House Band... The keyboards are on the left as you look at them, Sean Cotton on guitar next to him, Drums in the center a Bas player standing exactly where SASHA would be and another guitar player off to the right where Rafael would be standing. As OUR Rock Stars come back on stage... Deanna and MiG head over and stand in front of the keys and Sean Cotton, SUZIE takes Center Stage and Ty and Tara share a microphone off to the right. With the crowd still screaming... Suzie has to begin talking over the crowd as she says...

SUZIE: THANK-YOU! WELL IT'S TUESDAY MORNING IN CANADA. (Monday was a "Civic" holiday and now it is a few minutes after midnight) THANK YOU ALL FOR COMING OUT TONIGHT! LET'S KEEP LIVE MUSIC "ALIVE". It's the only thing that's real... I know, I used to live in LA (The audience laughs ) and someone half heartedly Boo's. Suzie afraid she might have offended someone asks if that person was from LA... It is then kindly pointed out to her that Deanna is still living in LA and that They ALL used to live in LA. You got the feeling that they were GLAD to be out of there.

Once again she asks people... If there is LIVE music in you area and you like it Support it. GO! OK... Here we go.

NOW at this point the audience there did not have the benefit of KNOWING what they would do as an encore by y reading the heading for this BLOG so... Act surprised and OH... IF you thought you were gonna start your BEST of INXS CD and play along with it as you read this description... UH-UH! It aint gonna work like that... IF you want to do that... You are gonna have to dig out QUEENS original version... SUZIE started with the quiet solo piano and...

MAMA... JUST KILLED A MAN

BUT UH-UH... that's not how this one goes.

OK... Now I want you to think back two weeks to STORMS performance of WE ARE THE CHAMPIONS (also by QUEEN and remember how she got the back-up band to add Mormon Tabernacle choir worthy 5 part harmony with her... and if you can remember this without it spoiling things for you... The House Band also added TREMENDOUS background harmonies for Z's ALL THE YOUNG DUDES...

Well one more minor digression, if you’ll indulge me. One of the things I have always "disliked" about Rock Star is that you have this group of INCREDIBLY talented singers and you NEVER get to hear one duet or one trio or quartet, it is ALWAYS solo work (understandably so but...) with that many talented vocalists... I just can't help but think of all of the "magic" we have missed out on by not letting two or three of them sing together some times... Well... Have that HOUSE BAND back-up harmony memory in the front of your mind as I take you back to BIG Buck’s MOUNTAIN LODGE... The Night (early Tuesday morning now) of Monday... August 7th. Imagine you have been there rocking and cheering and you know they are about to do one more song... The lights dim and THE 5 OF THEM all step to their microphones... a hush falls over the crowd, you can hear one of them whisper... "alright... and then... in perfect harmony like you have NEVER heard before on Rock Star INXS or SUPERNOVA You here Deanna, MiG, Suzie, Ty and Tara's voice blend as one as they softly sing in 5 part harmony

IS THIS THE REAL LIFE - IS THIS JUST FANTASY
CAUGHT IN A LANDSLIDE - NO ESCAPE FROM REALITY

(a little louder)

OPEN YOUR EYES... LOOK UP TO THE SKIES AND SEE

Suzie's voice now standing out...I'M JUST A POOR BOY, I NEED NO SYMPATHY
BECAUSE I'M (back to a very easy and gentle 5 part blend) EASY COME, EASY GO
A LITTLE HIGH, LITTLE LOW..
ANYWAY THE WIND BLOWS, DOESN'T REALLY MATTER TO ME

And NOW you may start your Suzie tape in your head, just the way you heard it on Rock Star only NOW you are there LIVE and You can see her breathe and sigh... you can see the anguish on her face and feel what she is feeling as that very familiar piano starts to play and she waits for just the right moment to sing...

S1

Mama, just killed a man,
Put a gun against his head,
Pulled my trigger, now he’s dead,
Mama, life had just begun,
But now I’ve gone and thrown it all away-
Mama ooo,
Didn’t mean to make you cry-
If I’m not back again this time tomorrow-
Carry on, carry on, as if nothing really matters-

Every rise in intensity is EXACTLY the way you heard her sing it live last summer and sounds exactly like it does every time you ever replayed her recording of it in your car or on your home CD player

The House Band plays the interlude as Suzie stands there long blonde hair straight hanging down past her shoulders... The brown under patch on the left side of her face, right side as we look at her, when the interlude is finished...

M1

MiG steps to his microphone and carries on what Suzie has begun....

Too late, my time has come,
Sends shivers down my spine-
Body’s aching all the time,

Goodbye everybody-I’ve got to go... (sung as if he is waving good-bye to the crowd)

Got to leave you all behind and face the truth... (because he knows this is the last song)

Mama ooo- (any way the wind blows)... [4 part harmony from D and Ty, and Suzie and Tara]

I don’t want to die,
I sometimes wish Id never been born at ALLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL

He holds out "ALL" an incredibly long time and the crowd goes wild! Followed by one of the most well known guitar solos known to man played note perfect until it culminates with that staccato piano and Suzie steps back to the microphone and smiles as only Suzie can and starts to sing...

I see a little silhouette of a man,
Scaramouche, scaramouche will you do the fandango... EVERYONE COMES IN
Thunderbolt and lightning-very very frightening me-

Galileo,galileo... MIG SINGS THE HIGH GALILEO
Galileo galileo... TY THE LOW

Galileo figaro-magnifico-
But I’m just a poor boy and nobody loves me-
He’s just a poor boy from a poor family... EVERYONE COMES IN

(This next part is too difficult to describe line for line, but you all know how it goes and it goes perfectly sung by the group.)

Spare him his life from this monstrosity-
Easy come easy go-,will you let me go-
Bismillah! no-,we will not let you go-let him go-
Bismillah! we will not let you go-let him go
Bismillah! we will not let you go-let me go
Will not let you go-let me go
Will not let you go let me go
No,no,no,no,no,no,no-
Mama mia, mama mia, mama mia let me go-
Beelzebub has a devil put aside for me, for me, for meeeeeeeeeeeeeeee

md1

tt1

I hate to do this to you but I am going to interject one thing because it is the only time in my life I will have a chance to say it to a captive audience.

IF you have ever watched your favorite female figure skater at the Olympics or World Championships... Michelle Kwan... Tara Lipinski... Sasha Cohen... There is ALWAYS a moment in The Long Program when they have just finished their last difficult double Axel or Triple Lutz or whatever the one jump they thought they might fall on and when they land it... Their face lights up with a beam so bright you could power the spot light coming out of the top of The Luxor Hotel in Las Vegas and a little "Smile creeps onto their face because they KNOW... They are Home Free. They can ace the rest of this program with their eyes closed and NEVER fall.

It seemed to me on Rock Star last summer when Suzie reached this part of the song...

BEELZEBUB HAD A DEVIL PUT ASIDE FOR ME...

That that "Skater's Smile" crept onto her face and she got a twinkle in her eye as she KNEW... The HARD part was over and she was HOME FREE she could start Rockin' and Head Bangin' and WOW!

Back to reality... When Suzie reached this part of the song... I watched for it. I had been waiting a year to Hear Suzie and the gang sing this song and HOLY CRAP! There it was... The MOMENT she sang... "BEELZEBUB"... she got that Suzie smile and a twinkle in her eye and in a scene right out of WAYNE'S WORLD...

THE BAND STARTED PLAYING' THE FISTS STARTED PUMPIN', THE BODIES STARTED JUMPIN' UP AND DOWN AND MOST OF ALL... THE HEADS STARTED BANGIN'... And Suzie started singin' as if she were singing The National Anthem, OH Canada and The Hallelujah Chorus ALL rolled into one...

s2

So you think you can stone me and spit in my eye-
So you think you can love me and leave me to die-
Oh baby-cant do this to me baby-
Just gotta get out-just gotta get right outta here-

The music then rose to it's climactic conclusion...

Suzie sang the "Ooo-Ooo-Ooo-Ooooo's"
The band soften back down and Suzie sang in her Oh So Vulnerable way...

Nothing really matters,
Anyone can see,
Nothing really matters-,nothing really matters to me...

The band held the last chord while Suzie waved and said Thank-you everyone and then...

In 5 part harmony they all sang... ANY WAY THE WIND BLOWS...

The Band hit one last long loud chord and everyone waved Good-bye... Took their bows and said Good Night and then left the stage... The band still holding the last chord til it finally ended and that was it. It was over.

Did it really happen, was it just a dream. "It doesn't really matter" to me...

I have this memory that will last a lifetime. Thank-YOU Suzie McNeil, Ty Taylor, Tara Slone MiG Ayessa and ESPECIALLY the woman whose TALENT, CHARM, POWERFUL VOICE, CHARISMA and STAGE PRESENCE has kept me AND my wife excited about MUSIC ever since last summer when we heard her for the first time on Rock Star just like "Y'ALL"... Ms. DEANNA JOHNSTON

And THANK YOU ALL for reading.

Please IF you were there... add comments of your own. If you just read it and wished you had been there say so too.

And mostly... I'd like to thank The Twins... Kelly and Karen for sharing this evening with me and acting as an Inspiration to MiG by being "in the front row" so he had someone "cute" to sing to.

Whoever wins SN is going to have to be confident. All three of the other members have "been there" and this person (who ever he/she may be) has got to be ballsy to "hang with the big boys" if you will.

Dilana scares me. But it is going to take someone like her to survive in this group. Lukkas seems to have enough attitude as does Magni and Ryan. I'm not sure about Storm, but Patrice and Toby has come across to me as someone trying to impress the teacher if you will.

My favorite was Josh, but he so obviously did not fit with SN. I think Lukkas and Dilana are the best fit.

I am sad that you feel so negative about Patrice Pike.

I am even sadder that her genuine spirit of joy should be so annoying.

While you a right to your own opinion, you have only to look at the fan responses on her web page to see how her authenticity brightens their lives and sense of well being.

Her calling may not be suited for such a position as Supernova, but it should not discount her in the way that you have done it.

I've saved my rant from Wednesday night (I was out of town) until now:

Note to Supernova - y'all might want to take this class called Psychology 101...

You see if, if you tell people to do something, you somehow need to reward those who do what you ask.

You gave one slot for an original song. Only one person wanted it - y'all made a big deal out of how Zayra was the only one who wanted to perform her original song and what was wrong with everyone else? Admittedly, it wasn't a song that even remotely fit Supernova, but her performance was TERRIFIC for a pleasant change.

Then you boot her. How STUPID are you boys? You just punished the one person who took enough RISK to do what you asked. I realize that R&R is about not following the rules, but JEEZ! Its not like Patrice fits Supernova any better or didn't deserve to go home this week...

Hey Tex, do you Texas folk ever have, say, differing opinions or are you pretty singleminded folk. Inquiring minds want to know? Will

Shenova - I agree with you completely! It seems like most of the people who have been brave and tried something risky get slapped back for it either by the public vote landing them in the bottom or Supernova themselves smacking them upside the head.

LOVE YOUR Site. Read it all last year and hardly get any work done at work this year (have to read all the comments). Sure do miss MIG, Jordis and Marty. Summer TV viewing would be a bust without Rock Star Supernova to look forward to--my pal at work and I have to rehash performances every Wednesday. Favorite Dilana, but love Magni and Ryan. Skunk Boy may be talented, but I can't tell because he mumbles too much. (Also like Toby because he is nice to look at).
Thank you for having the best place to catch up on RSS news.

Patrice is lucky for getting this far. I dont find her entertaining to listen or look at- infact she is somewhat boring. I am beginning to think that the producers kept her this long simply for the ratings or perhaps to capture an older audience, I dont know how old she is but she must be at least 10 years older than everyone else.

Umm, actually Storm is the eldest of the bunch at 37. Followed by Patrice at 35 and Dilana is 34! All the boys are 28 – 29!

I accepted this challenge! Patrice Pike is indeed well-known...at least in Austin. She was the lead singer for Sister 7 that did have two Billboard hits and then broke up - in 2000! Sister 7 was on Arista when Clive Davis was there, but when he left in 2000, he didn't take them with him to his new label. The band broke up.

Since then, Patrice has put out critically acclaimed indie record(s)...that no one outside of Austin has ever heard of before. Her own website www.patricepike.com has nothing on it except for an ad for her last record.

I found numerous Austin newspaper interviews with her. The words "genuine" and "integrity" crop up frequently. I personally love this quote from the Austin Chronicle (June 7, 2002) as to why she did not embrace celebrity: "Over time, Sister 7 became such a production," sighs Pike, "this thing that had a life of its own. The audiences got bigger and bigger, and there was all this chatter from the record company about image and clothing, and all those things made it lose that everyday element for me." Uh Huh. Now she's wearing leather and singing metal.... really "everyday element" stuff!

www.brushwoodinstitute.com seems to be following her, uh, "success" on RS. I love this quote from when they found out she was going to be on the show:

"Our dear friend Patrice Pike has gone completely stark raving mad. Either that or she's pulled off an ingenious master stroke of career catapulting jujitsu. In what can only be described as a shocking (shocking!) turn of events, she has landed on a CBS reality show this summer called Rock Star: Supernova!

Should we rejoice? Have to admit her decision to pursue this left me scratching my head a bit at first. I knew she was involved in some top-secret clandestine television thing, but never in my most completely unhinged dreams did I imagine something like, like, this! All that cleavage and makeup and manufactured drama? Yes, it’s a bizarre set of circumstances for our girl Patrice, who puts such a premium on authenticity and artistic integrity. But the reality (bad choice of words) is she’s worked the indie side of the street faithfully for almost six years now, and the break she so richly deserves hasn’t come callin’. So in yet another classic example of the boundless irony of the universe, she lands on a reality television show called Rock Star."

That pretty much says it all!

Patrice a soccer Mom???? Doesn't sound like you know much about her. First - if she's not a lesbian, she's at least bi-sexual, which is a little out there for most soccer moms. Plus she's spent her whole adult life in rock n' roll. As for being too old, well she's younger than all the boys in Supernova. Sounds like a double standard to me.
