Normally I wouldn't blow the results in the title of the recap, but I'm just so disgusted with tonight's results that I just can't take it. It's not that I mind overly much who went home. It's that she didn't take Soccer Mom home with her. How many more weeks will we have to put up with Patrice Pike on Rock Star: Supernova before Supernova gets the idea that the public doesn't like her? How many weeks has had to at least stand up for the entire elimination show? She has been saved so many times that it's just sickening. Anyhow, on with the recap.
After last night's performance, Storm Large was upset about her performance. She says she took her vocals seriously but not necessarily the song. Ryan Star wondered if she could stay out of the bottom three, while Lukas Rossi thought she would be in the bottom three. Storm watched her performance on v-cast and had no problem with it. She said if they didn't like it, she can't take it personally but she knows she's good enough.
Back to the show and Dave Navarro talked to Storm about her performance. He stood by what he said. Storm said she gave it 1000% as it might not be her favorite but it's someone's favorite. She did the best with the time and material she had. Dave would have liked to have seen a more ironic version, like the one done by a band called Cake. Dave says Storm can take the type of criticism they have been dealing out to her. On to Dave and Toby Rand, Dave commented that people like to see Toby naked.Toby said that it was boring aroudn the house and that for next week he'll run down Melrose Ave. naked.
Then it was time for a special announcement, the band would be performing with someone tonight, as they want to test someone out. The crowd shouts for Dilana. Then we went to a clip, where the rockers had an assignment to check out a new Supernova track. Then they go to the studio to get the news that each week one of the rockers will play with Supernova on one of their original tracks. Each of the rockers sang the same song in the studio, giving Supernova the chance to compare how each rocker would add to the band. Lukas' mouth motions during the recording bothered me a lot. Gilby Clarke, back in the present, says that no one has won yet, and the contest is far from over. But someone has to be the first to sing with them. As a lot of people think a woman can't front the band, they chose Dilana for this week.
Dilana and Supernova performed "Leave the Lights On." I thought it was a great song, I can totally see Dilana with Supernova. I thought the dancing girls were a bit cheesy. It definitely seemed all rehearsed, as Dilana did a bit of a dance too. Jason Newsted thought it was fun and that the dancing girls were a nice touch. Tommy Lee gave the girls a shout out as they were from some club, the name of which I didn't bother to write down.
Jason said the encore tonight went to Ryan. Ryan performed In The Air Tonight by Phil Collins again, about the same as last night. There really wasn't anything new to add to it.
Then it was time for the bottom three. Zayra Alvarez was first into the bottom, leaving Storm outraged. Patrice and Toby Rand were also in the bottom three. As the voting went on, Magni and Storm (who seemed happy to land in the bottom) managed to land in the bottom three at some point too. Dave was surprised as he thought Magni was great. Storm didn't belong there either according to Dave, even if he didn't like the performance last night.
First into the bottom was Zayra. She sang "Razorblade" by Blue October, as it's an intense song. If one only listens to Zayra she's probably not that great. But she is so much fun to watch, I would totally go to her concert! She makes me smile.
Next up was Soccer Mom, and honestly I just want to gouge my ears out at this point. She was originally going to do a ballad as her bottom three song, but decided to change to Celebrity Skin by Hole. Even without watching her you can hear the cheesy smile. I wonder if she can sing anything without being the delighful "I just took a huge dose of Prozac and don't have any real emotions left in my body" Soccer-Mom-ish! UGH! My anger just overwhelms me at this point. She even happily walked out to the Supernova platform.
Magni performed last. He decided on Creep by Radiohead, as it's the anthem of his generation. Honestly he's just a WOW performer. It was completely awesome both stage presence and vocal wise.
Down to decision time, and Gilby tells Zayra that they love risk, and it was a huge risk to do her original and do a song they've never heard. Patrice keeps landing in the bottom three, even though they enjoy her performances. Magni was great last night and tonight and gets to go sit back down. Tommy says that Patrice has potential for Supernova but Zayra doesn't. So Zayra has to go. Come on - Patrice has potential for the band? Give me a * break! It's not so much that they didn't send Soccer Mom home, it's that they said she had potential for the band. That is honestly what made me furious. Send them both home - but no, we had to have a double elimination when Soccer Mom wasn't in the Bottom three thank you ever so much. Zayra got the usual you're so talented speech from Dave and Jason and said that she was honored to be there.
Guest said: Patrice a soccer Mom???? Doesn't sound like you know much about her. First - if she's not a lesbian, she's at least bi-sexual, which is a little out there for most soccer moms. Plus she's spent her whole adult life in rock n' roll. As for being too old, well she's younger than all the boys in Supernova. Sounds like a double standard to me.
First, the is nothing wrong with being gay, I had one for a pet, it was great. Second, could you be more informed, she is older than "all of the guys", we love to have new folks post but have some semblance of a clue. She is okay, we are just not crazy about her. Chill!

Patrice might be younger than the Supernova guys and younger than Storm but she looks errr haggard -can do with a bit of eye cream, tooth whitening and a meat pie !!!!!

I agree that we don't care if she's gay, bi-sexual, or prefers bluegreen martians...
However, I must point out that Tommy is in his 40's...ergo, she ain't older than all the guys :))
People seem to be taking that "Soccer Mom" thing seriously - as in I firmly believe she has 2 children in soccer and ushers them and all of their friends to every game in her little Suburban.
When we call Patty "Soccer Mom" it's really more about the image she tries to toss over - it's really more like that Mom that tries to be cool but comes off as just really dorky. That's Patrice. "Soccer Mom" dorky.

Wait, you mean she's doesn't own a Volvo?
I'm also a bit surprised at how literally some of the nicknames are being read by some commenters (mostly "guests," I think). Lighten up people!
Also, to whomever said we should stop criticizing Patrice for her joyful spirit (sorry, I can't recall who wrote that). Don't get me wrong, I love it when people obviously enjoy what they do for a living. Nothing annoys me more than someone who plays a game (which is all pro sports is: grown ups playing a game) or music for a living but can't seem to enjoy it. But there's a difference between that and smiling while belting out a song like "Celebrity Skin", "Heart Shaped Box" or "Helter Skelter" (actually I don't remember if she smiled during that one). These aren't shiny happy songs. They deserve a little edge.
Of course, there's always the danger of tilting too far in the other direction, which Ryan is getting close to doing, if he hasn't already.
Patrice has to go - Zayra should have stayed just for the entertainment factor of the show itself. Toby is good but not good enough-Ryan to me is not a rock star-Dilanna is not someone I think alot of people would care to see and her songwriting skills are well lets say skill is not a word i would use for her. That leaves Storm, Magni and Lucas. Lucas has dropped off over the last few weeks but still has potential if he can open up the wind pipes, Storm is awesome she lives the life of a rock star, I have high hopes for her either with supernova or on her own. That leaves Magni who right now has been consistent the whole show he if anyone can front this band.
Last year, J. D. was my first pick for dislike. I thought that MIG or Marty would have won. However, INXS chose J.D. and obviously he was the one that fit with their band. (I still feel that he was chosen early on and the rest of the show was "for the show"). This year I honestly feel that the Supernova guys are still in the process of winnowing to see who will make the grade. They at least give off the "vibe" that they are giving everyone a chance. (Loved the comment to Magni at elimination that he "was far from going home".) There is a lot of talent on the stage and I love to see a "rock concert" twice a week. Great show and will miss it when all is done. Rock on!!!!!

I mean of coarse, the male contestants, everyone I hope knows the all the guys in SN are 40ish! Will
A couple of quick notes. I saw our Latin Swirl , Miss Z on Talk Soup, she was cute, he held up her CD and preatended to be eager to marry a stranger just to stay in the country. She was as beautiful as ever.
I read on another site that the rocker get 1 thousand a week and five a week if they win, for a year plus the exposure for their careers! This is not a fact but a post, that doesn't seem so outlandish to be un-true!
Miss_Mcary, after the show Tues, get us up some good stuff, OKay?? Do you know about the pay thing? Will
Sprout, I hope everything is better for you now or getting better. Will
Hmmmm....how about an elimination night aka (cancellation of the show) involving sending Tommy and Co. home for being pretty much-i don't know say...overrated hacks, and failures for human beings .....
just found this interview with Patrice (via USA Today's Pop Candy blog). It has this great bit o' information:
The bisexual indie queen has even been referred to on Rock Star message boards as “the soccer mom.” Though she says she doesn't know anything about what viewers are saying, Pike knows that something vital hasn't yet come through to the television audience.

dig the soccer mom reference, and that it confuses her :)

Good article, seems like Patrice and her fans are having difficulty jumping from her being self-employed to being a coroporate, or goup or partnership player open to the full scrutiny of the public and a not so forgiving new audience. With her fans ( in her bubble, to use her words) she had an accepting audience and one eager to hear the product she had delivered to them before. Now she is having difficulty making herself heard, or memorable, there is nothing earthshaking for us newbies to latch on to. Like in life, when you are in college, you are a star or future star and when you hit the Pros, or real world, it is what , who, why are you here again. None of us here have any hard fellings for this girl other than there are others we think are better to us. Will
I think I dislike Patrice the most (at least of the members) and even I have really no ill will towards the gal. She's far too perky and cheerful for me if she wants to be in a band like Supernova, but she'd be great as a solo artist or with a different type of band. I picture Patrice off somewhere collaborating with Sarah McLachlan or that lesbian girl group from Lilith Fair whose name always escapes me.
Very hard to read the verification code. Maybe I am too much of a robot? In any case, I am captivated by this Rockstar stuff. I did not know it was such hard work. I am surprised that they all seem to be hard working and knowledgeable about their little industry but - well - I I find it okay but not all that good. Dilana's Lithium and Storm's Pinball Wizard I like to watch. Many of the other performances, I feel awkward. I actually feel uncomfortable to watch. I can see why the performance part is so necessary since without the visuals, it seems so-so. There I said it. I'm not too happy with any of them at this point. Storm is pretty and interviews well and could have a great career as the first rockstar who does Lenny Bruce routines. Dilana is good enough, sort of a pre-Madonna without the depth. Since Madonna is a little shallow but creative at times, that's not saying a whole lot.
Can't really see how Patrice is a soccer mom. She's short and maybe not exactly hard core, but not exactly a soccer mom either. I do agree that she wasn't right for SuperNova. In my view the person that has been waaay over rated from the beginning is Dilana. She just seems like a bull dyke to me who should be Mellisa Ethridges muse on tour. Dilana is hard core, but in an over the top way, that lacks style. Biggest problem is that she has no range. She has the same grumbly tone on every song. SuperNova knows this I believe and will turf her if the rest of the community puts her up against anyone in the bottom three other than Storm. It's not that I don't like to watch women, but none of them could front this band. By the way, its practically impossible to read the code in this crazy portal. Took me four codes before I could read one.
Poor Dilana:I feel her pain! She is a total professional. She has obviously "paid her dues".(It's all written in her face.}She gave her all in LITHIUM&FIRE,but then SOMETHING HAPPENED!Did she just get burned out,or what? Was she on her period? She is really hungry for this & is probably getting tired of putting up with amateurs.I wonder if she would have that Joplinesque whiskey voice,if she stopped smoking.I am totally for her,but she needs to start taking care of herself, phusically.mom
