momROCKS was kind enough to present us with a review of the reality episode. What follows below is her review, edited briefly by curlio.
Previously on Rock Star: Supernova: Toby Rand ran around naked while Zayra Alvarez battled for her original song. On performance night Ryan Star, Dilana, and Toby all give killer performances. Tommy didn't think Zayra's original song was for them. Gilby said they had been sitting on their asses too long so up they jumped and put Dilana in front. Zayra was the first in the bottom three, then Patrice Pike and lastly Magni. Zayra was the next to go. Tears flow and now there are seven!
Back to the mansion and a toast to Zayra. Ryan says it sucks without Zayra she brought a life to the house. They were all missing her. Toby gave cheers to Dilana for her performance with Supernova. Storm Large wants to sing the new song with SN too. Now that she heard Dilana sing it she likes it. Dilana says now that the world has seen Dilana as one with SN now she can't see anyone else fronting the band.
They praise Ryan for his encore. Toby says he always does something to the person who gets the encore. Next scene Toby nails Ryan in the face with cake or something like that.
The press shows up at the mansion. The interviews begin, Ryan states that some have more exposure to this than others do, and they need to remember that they are talking to the world not just the one person in front of them. First up Skunk boy, Lukas Rossi, interviewed by Mark Long (Fox Reality Remix) Lukas let us all know he listened to Metallica growing up and he had sex for the first time to Unforgiven.
Jump to Toby - he enjoys taking to the press. He likes the random questions they ask. Toby is interviewed by Kevin Dickson (In Touch Magazine) He asks Toby if he can survive a year on tour with the band. Toby responds that it depends on what new medicines will be created right now.
Then Storm greets Jaime White (Star 98.7) with a handshake. "You shake like a man" Jaime tells Storm. Storm feels Jaime has been the hardest on the contestants people were limping out of her interviews . Jaime tells Storm she's a great singer but has nothing that says darn it you're the girl. You're not tatted out. Jump to Toby he responds to the same jab from Jaime with I have five how many do you have? She says it's not about her and he says cool, alright then lets move on. She asks Magni to play a game then asks who he thinks it is that stated they didn't like him. Magni tells her she is mean! Then asks for a time out. Jaime tries the same question on Ryan. He told her she was the one that was mean to him!! He wasn't expecting these kind of questions being asked. He said it was the harshest interview he'd ever been in, but he had to remember he was being a spokesman for SN and it's a big responsibility. Jaime wants to know if Dilana has the edge. Ryan states Yes (then Ryan sees Jason walk in to listen in on the interview). Jump to Lukas taking to Kevin Dickson. Kevin tries to get Lukas to tell who isn't being true to him self among his fellow contestants. Lukas declines, saying he doesn't want to dog anybody. Kevin tells him that will look bad in Rolling Stone. Lukas Ok well?
Jump to Dilana with Kevin D wonders how she feels living with people who are clearly threatened and jealous of her? She doesn't feel everyone's mind and heart is as set to win this as hers is. She thinks she knows who is really in this to win and who is just looking for to ride as long as they can. She says Toby is one just looking for a ride not the gig. Also Magni is more interested in being with his family. Then she was asked what she thought after hearing the SN song for the first time. She blabbed on that she loved the song, but Storm really hated the lyrics and Ryan totally hated the song. Dilana stated Patrice Pike should not be there and needs to go. Jason followed in a clip stating how you shouldn't talk bad about your band members to the press there will be repercussions. Jump to Dilana talking to Jaime, Dilana calls the other contestants a forced family and they all really bonded. Jaime tells Dilana that is real politically correct, but who does she really hate. Dilana says there is one guy she would like to strangle at one point everyday and that's Lukas. Dilana says he is a different person every hour and he gets on her nerves and she'd like to punch his lights out!! Now, Jaime talks to Lukas, she jabs him about his sunglasses and asks if he thinks he's a superstar already. He says no he's hung over and takes them off. Jaime tells Lukas that others think he's hard to deal with and moody and Dilana wants to save him. Lukas tells Jaime to tell Dilana to mind her own business. Jaime kept harping that he was the most talked about and that everyone thought he was difficult to live with. Lukas got quiet and Jaime told him he was coming off as a d**K and he said no he was just taking it all in. But he stated in a clip he was ready to tell her to F***off and walk out. She didn't like me and I didn't like her. Lukas walks out. Jason states that if the media treats you with disrespect you can give it back to them. Cut to Lukas and Ryan going over the interview. Dilana's statements to the press are a big issue with everyone.
On to song selection where Toby finds the songs including TWO ORGINALS. The fight begins. Toby and Ryan want them and then Storm is willing to physically fight for the original song. Ryan tells her he will not fight her. Patrice Pike wants an original too and won't give in. Magni states Patrice needs to get one because she has been in the bottom so many times. Storm does an about face and takes Cryin' by Aerosmith, she says she can sing anything so screw you. Magni and Storm went out and tried the song out with Magni playing guitar for her. It ended with Storm straddling Magni and him asking will my wife like you sitting on me like this? She said she was on him like a brother and he said NO I have two brothers and they never sat on me like this. He tries to shake her off. CREEPY. Toby says he really wants the song Every Breath You Take by the Police but he said he didn't actually wanted that song , he just wanted to pay Dilana back for last week. Cut to the poolside and Dilana stripping. Before she runs out and does her naked lap around the pool Toby tells the others he never wanted that song at all. Dilana says she did it because she's tough and she has a hot body for a midget. Toby told her she looked like a twelve-year-old boy with a wig! Dilana is struggling with her falsetto voice for the song. While listening to Dilana's attempts to sing the falsetto parts, Toby says I want to go tell her to shut up. Lukas says, is that really her? I thought it was the dog howling. Toby states she's becoming Jill.
What the rockers are performing
Toby - Layla by Eric Clapton (he's changing it up-to make it more SN)
Magni - (he's ill with the flu) but singing Smells Like Teen Spirit by Nirvana
Ryan - his own song - Back of Your Car (we see Ryan micro managing THE BAND)
Dilana - Every breath You Take by the Police
Storm - Cryin' by Aerosmith
Patrice - her original song, don't know the name
Lukas - Don't know what he's singing either.
*note from curlio* THANK YOU to momROCKS for typing up this review. It's always nice to have a backup, and it looks like we may have needed it this time!
Nice re-cap MomRocks! The reporter Jamie White from the radio station was a skank and a half. She seems bound and determined to get "herself " on national TV. She put all efforts into creating news instead of getting the news or story. The producers will use it to create the ole "Drama" we all love. But, wouldn't let my dogs play with her dogs, literally.
Lukas handled himself pretty well, Storm should have beatch-slapped the skank and she would gain many votes, oh well, missed opportunity. Hopefully she won't affect the rockers performances, they are hopefully able to set the snipping aside.
thanks MomR, Will

...week after week you can tell by the songs available they're definitely not trying to pull in a metal audience.Sting ? Eric Clapton ? Nirvana? I seriously doubt that any of these fools could even pull off a heavy tune! Too bad SN doesn't do what INXS did and force them to actually perform their music on elimination night.Id love to hear one of these fools try to convincingly do some old Motley, old GNR,or old Metallica....by the way there will come a time on tour where they will have to do some of this stuff .
I know that even what is on the reality show is subject to a beef-up for drama's sake, but Dilana still said some things that worry me. I wasn't buying into the whole "too confident for her own good" argument just yet, but now it's hard to ignore. Come on, Magni isn't a fit for the group because of his family? Tommy and Gilby both have children, and if anything that makes Magni MORE of a fit because he would understand those types of issues and commitments. I admire Lukas for not wanting to talk bad about his bandmates, and Dilana should have done the same. Bad move Dilana, talking bad about people because you think you're the winner already. You lost my vote.
I think Dilana is starting to believe her own press. I really liked her but the last couple of weeks I'm getting a vibe from her that I don't care for. I think she's over confident now and she's acting like she has this thing wrapped up. I've always been a Lukas fan anyway, but I thought Dilana was certainly one of the strongest contenders. This has shed her in a light that is very unflattering and it may hurt her.
Dilana!
You know, I still think she is the favorite to win this. ( You know my favorite is Stormy) But, FYI in sports I could give you a huge number of example of times when someone looked at the situation and mentally arrived at the "we've got it won" state to have it disappear like a tiny feather blown off the face of a child. I think we can see that her popularity has peeked with the public, but what does SN think, they be so desparate to save face with this experiment, they my go with what they think the public wants. I hope the choose the best for them untarnished by the personality fest as of late. I want this show and the band to be sucessful enough for another show like this. I really enjoy it and I likes what I likes!! Will
curlio, i agree with you... i've loved dilana from the beginning but lately, week after week, i'm losing it for her. magni is truly the best fit - every week i get more pro-magni. and the fact that he has kids fits him all the more. this isn't a band of 21 year old party heads... they've all been there and done that and yeah, there will be that, but i don't think it's ALL that any more. magni all the way!
Hey Curlio, I hate to keep giving props to msn.com, but you can watch their "webisodes" online from Monday (if not sooner) onwards. The Webisode is actually the 30 minute TV episode so if you miss TV, catch it online!
As far as Dilana goes, I too think she is going down hill. Not because she is not good, but most of the others remaining are getting better and doing different things. Reminds me of Jordis from last year...early favorite who just stopped impressing because she wouldn't do anything new!

I think many don't have High Speed internet and, if you don't it will drive you crazy trying to watch. will

Before you give too much credit to MSN, keep in mind that they (as well as most of the internet now it seems) build their websites with only the best of the high speed internet services in mind. I'm in the middle of nowhere, with nothing left to me but dial-up. Many of the other users can not watch the webisodes either. Thus, we have the recaps, so that those of us left out can still keep up.
I can't even enter MSN's site, let alone watch the webisode.
Having read the recap (THANKS momROCKS!!!) and watched the show, I am so dissappointed in Dilana... she was my favorite, but she is starting to really grate on my nerves. Sure, I was raised to be polite, the whole "if you can't say something nice, then don't say anything" stuff, and I know I have failed on that on occasion (which is when the added catholic guilt sets in! Thanks, Mom! *groans) but Dilana really went over the edge this week, in my never-to-be-humble opinion. It was bad enough when she started to act all "I am the winna!", but all the bad sh*t she threw out this week is just too much for me. I even was applauding skunkboy, and I soooo do not like him!! I'm afraid Dilana has lost my vote after seeing her interviews this week.
Now I will just have to push for my 2nd choice, Magni, to win... which isn't a bad thing! HE IS AWESOME, too... I just was really enthralled with Dilana from the start. Too bad I got to see her real side. Sometimes it's better to be ignorant, me thinks....
I think my favorite part of the webisode (even though I'm a journalist myself, just not a rock/entertainment journalist) was when Jason Newsted said that if the press disrespects you, you can disprespect them back. I gotta respect that. The press is allowed to ask tough, interesting questions. No need to try cheesy provacations to create news, like the Radio Bee-atch reporter. Lukas was right to walk out on her.
good stuff;refeshing tv i love supernova for being very positive to all the singers these judges are truly decent men.maybe some other tv show sould watch and learn a thing or to.my hat is off to tommy he is not the guy i read about love is what i see in this tv show 42 mom and loving every minite of it
Hello, I am humbled...it's hard seeing something you've written up there in lights!! But I tried to just "report the facts lady". Thank You Curlio for helping my run on sentences and errors!(you have a hard job and I bow to all that can do the review and still have the energy to add your own spin on things!!)
I too am sad to see Dilana be such a B**ch!! She has gone down a step in my voting. (or is that what the editors of RS wanting us to do?) I really like Magni he just seems like a nice guy, Toby is actually growing on me, Storm is loosing ground with Dilana....and it's hard for me but Skunk boy Lukas looks like a more personable than before too. Lukas is not my favorite to win...but I don't cringe when I see him anymore. I'm still waiting for the show....I may have to read the review before the show airs on the west coast!!
The problem with claiming "it's just the way that burnett edits the show" as an excuse. JD last year can claim a bad edit, as his actions were taken out of context and put into a more serious light. Words are harder to put a bad spin on. Calling out various rockers as not fit for the band is okay, but come on - using Magni's family as a reason why he's not fit? Trashing virtually all of the other rockers? I didn't approve of it when Ryan, Toby and Lukas did it to Skipper - even if I didn't like her. I don't approve of it from "frontrunner" Dilana. If it was Patrice, it would sound like someone falling behind trying to gain ground any way they can in a competition. From one of those few dubbed "potential winners" by nearly everyone, it just sound arrogant, cocky, and rude. Rock and Roll is all about attitude, but I'm not sure this is what even Tommy Lee has in mind - someone who will trash the band when their backs are turned.
Curlio, after reading your reasons for it not being the edit, I totally agree with you....it would be nice to see more of what everyone said. I think it showed everyone in a more personable light, except Dilana.
Still waiting to see to nights show.
Hey momrocks you did a great job! It does seem that Lady D is quite full of herself. Sometimes I wonder if she is working on her acting career. Wasn't she the one who was so unsure of herself in the beginning? And seemed so supportive on Skipper, Lady Z and some of the others who have gone on. I'm really liking Magni. I think I may have a thing for bald men as well.
If you can't be a good example, then be a horrible warning!
Now I'm not defending what Dilana did or said in any way, but we didn't see a lot of the others interviews. So in a sense they were highlighting the "drama" of Dilana's comments because they know she is a frontrunner and has a pretty big fanbase. While I lost a ton of respect for Dilana for being a chump and throwing her fellow castmates under the bus, I have to wonder was this an editing ploy to get the proverbial juices flowing?
Remember it is a Mark Burnett show, they need to keep it interesting and also pull Dilana back to the pack. So don't be too harsh on Dilana she is playing the game. (or just stupid)
Magni must be favouite but Toby has more commercial appeal and that is what the show is ALL about. Also remember the producer praised Toby's voice through the cans and he could also be "moulded".
I thought Lukas killed! He is the one to front Supernova, but I have my doubts as if this band will be a lasting force on the Rock Scene. Maybe he would do better on his own. He is real. He dresses the way he does because that is just him and he's not willing to change for others. Way to go Lukas. You will win this,
I think the whole depiction of Dilana was a systematic and strategic move of the producers. Since Dilana has been the front-runner all along, the producers want to shake it up a bit. They didn't have to edit a whole week's worth of footage to focus merely on that.
Granted, it's best to say nothing if you have nothing nice to say... but these people are NOT her band mates. These people are her competitors, and she honestly answered the questions presented to her.
What I was disturbed with was how she was wishy washy on why she said what she said as well as if she meant what she said about the house-band backing up Ryan. If these are her convictions, what she believes, she should not waiver when asked why she said what she said. Her waivering lead to a less credible depiction of the entire scenario (maybe because she was shocked at how she was depicted). At any rate, she would have behooved herself to say that these are her honest opinions of her fellow competitors (not fellow collegues) and that she doesn't beat around the bush. Also she should have shown attempt at defensiveness... and definately no pouting through the entire show as we saw.
Regardless, I think the show is trying to paint the picture that Dilana doesn't have this competition in the bag... that she could be a potential disruption to the dynamics of the band Supernova ... and that the focus should include significant contiplation of other contestants.
I am still supportive of Dilana (#1 choice) then Ryan Star :)
You can try to blame spin all you like, in the end, Dilana is still at fault. I think she came into this as "it's a game" but didn't realize what Supernova were looking for.
The guys of INXS last year made it clear that behaviour wasn't what they cared about, they wanted someone to make them money and fill Michael's vocals shoes - nothing more.
Meanwhile the guys of Supernova have made it equally clear that they are looking at behaviour. They want to see how the rockers react with each other and treat each other. They don't want too nice, as it is a competition, but there is a line between a friendly competition and just being arrogant. Dilana said and did all of these things, showing her huge ego and arrogance. There will be room for only one ego in Supernova and that's Tommy Lee. Any rocker who thinks they can join this band and be as arrogant as Dilana has been has another thing coming. Dilana can still manage to come back from this - if she's humble enough and shows her huge talent rather than her huge ego. Supernova is looking for a bandmate, perhaps not quite equal, but still a bandmate. And how you treat those around you - even your competitors - will effect the results more than last year I think.
Musically, Storm Large blows everyone else out of the water. She sings any style, any key, any song; always with power, depth, dynamics, humor, provocativeness, intelligence, and artistic integrity. I've seen her perform many times in person, and she is also an unbelievable performer/showperson. She is only showing a very small fraction of what she does, due to the restricted setting. In no way are the members of SN more talented than she, BTW. She has talent to burn.
By comparison, for example, Dilana has one basic voice/style and sticks with it. Great for what it is. But I hope who Storm is is starting to bleed through to viewers and judges a little bit.
