Rock Star: Supernova teaches the lesson of humility

We waited for it, we wanted it to happen. Dilana got her dressing down for her previous bad behaviour, but not before we saw some more bad behaviour from her! While I was hopeful that Dilana would make it to the bottom three on Rock Star: Supernova, she managed to stay out once again. She will land there eventually however, we must just be patient. Meanwhile tonight's episode had a lot of talking and not all of it was from Rock Star! Read on for the rest of the recap!
After the standard recap of yesterday's performances, we head to the mansion where Dilana is still being arrogant. She tells Ryan that without the House Band his performance would have been nothing, as they kicked ass. Ryan Star wasn't happy about that, as he said to just let him have his moment. Dilana tells Ryan that she's getting more votes than him (as a side note she knows this how? Ryan was in the bottom three once perhaps he's been getting more votes than her all those other weeks!) because from week one she gave it her all, then says she's not trying to get a dig at him. Ryan tries to interrupt, but the arrogant b!tch tells him to just not interrupt for a second. Ryan wants to know if b!tch thinks that's where her fans came from, the first night. She says yes, as she's been strong from week one. Magni tells her that they're growing, but she's just doing the same thing over and over (did anyone else want to just kiss his little iceman cheeks right then?). Ryan says it's easy for her to criticize, but it's something else to be modest, graceful, and show respect to others above and below you. That's what a real winner is, he says.
The next morning, the rockers check out the pages made by the fans over at Windows Live Spaces. They browse through some reactions, including one that says Ryan and Dilana should front the band together. Ryan says he would shoot himself first while b!tch says she would shot him. She says it's interesting that the fans are thinking about it, but it's the last thing she would think about, over her dead body. Back to the show, where Dave Navarro says that having that instant connection to the fans, there is nothing like it.
Dave talks to Dilana, saying he's shocked by her attitude. The fans came up with that dual lead singer thing and her reaction is to shoot him? B!tch tells Ryan she loves him and apologizes that it came across like that, but she's the big B!TCH this week and would hate to tour and share the stage with anyone as part of two lead singers. He wondered if she was joking when she said Ryan would be nothing without the house band. B!tch first says "no I was not joking" then when the audience drowns her out, she tries to fake it like she was joking. Was I the only one who thought she did a very quick backstep after the audience reacted so violently? She then said that she did not mean what she said. Dave wonders what any of them would be without the house band (my reaction, they would suck, because house band * rocks). He wonders as well if she is threatened by the dark horse. B!tch says that she isn't threatened by anyone as she competes with herself.
On to Dave and Ryan, Ryan says that what B!tch said to the guys in SN was the most graceful she had been in awhile. It was nice to see her be a bigger person. She has a lot of fans and when you're on top, Ryan says, if you talk down to people it shows disrespect. That's another side of you that people won't look up to her for. For her own benefit, Ryan suggests she be more positive when she talks about other people. (All of that was a very political way to simply tell B!tch to STFU!)
Then it was time for another Supernova track. First we saw a clip of all the rockers performing the new song with the band. Patrice said that everyone brings a different flavour to the band. Magni says there is no room for error, you have to kill it each time you get onstage. Jason Newsted says that it was fun, but one person stood out and that was Toby. Toby Rand got to perform "Be Yourself and 5 Other Cliches" with the band. It was a nice sound, the music part of it sounded very much like a White Stripes sort of rhythm. Overall I thought it was pretty good.
Then we got to see the interview section that was in the reality webisode. You can read momROCKS recap for more about that. Don't forget we need a webisode recapper for next week too!
First up was Lukas Rossi, who said that the media is part of being a rockstar and you have to know how to handle it. He was shown being interviewed by Mark Long from Fox Reality Remix . Mark wanted to know if Lukas was a fan of the guys in Supernova growing up. Lukas said he had sex the first time to Metallica's Unforgiven. Kevin Dickson of In Touch Magazine wondered if Lukas could handle a year with the band. Lukas said it depended on the type of medicines they invent. On to Jamie White, who asked Ryan if Dilana had an edge right now. Ryan started to answer as Jason came walking in, then stuttered a bit. He then said that the band have made it clear that it's open until the end. Jason said that there is a lot of crash course stuff for the person who wins, and overall it comes down to representation. Back to Kevin who asked Lukas if anyone was faking it to get the job. Lukas said of course, but then wouldn't answer who as he didn't want to "dog" anyone. Jason is then shown saying that when you are in the press and you talk negatively about some person there will be repercussions due to that, no matter what. Then we were on to the Dilana section, which got her into so much trouble. She started out by saying she wanted to strangle Lukas every day, as he's a different person all the time and just hits her nerve. The female interviewer was just overjoyed to hear this from the look on her face. Jamie then delights in telling Lukas that Dilana thought he was difficult and wanted to save him. B!tch is worried about him as he gets moody and goes to a dark place. Lukas says Dilana can mind her own business. He doesn't think it's for Dilana to say that when she doesn't know who he is. Dilana then tells Kevin that she knows who is serious about this and who is along for the ride. Toby and Magni are mentioned, but the audio became too hard to hear at this point.
As they started the recap of the interviews, the audio of America's Next Top Model started to break through our sound. I do not know if it was just our TV, our station, Directv, or everyone. But we shall have to apologize as the next part of the show became impossible to hear at points and therefore our recap of this section is a bit sketchy.
As they went back to the show, the audience was booing up a storm as Brooke Burke asked Dave what's going on. Dave replied that he didn't know what to say, as he finds it unbelievable. He tells Dilana that she's doing so well every week. That was the biggest mistake she made, as you never bag on anyone like that. He was stunned. B!tch says that when Jamie told Lukas I don't know what to tell you *sorry, wrong audio!* When Jamie told Lukas she wanted to save him, B!tch said that she understands Lukas as they are similar. They have *garble* upbringing and she feels like a mother who wants to protect him under her wing. Lukas interrupts that he doesn't need a dove. Dilana says sorry, she didn't know. She adds that she isn't a professional when being interviewed, that it's a learning process. She says she screwed up badly (no really??) and she apologizes to everyone. She says she will learn from it. Dave appreciates her owning up to it, as it takes guts. He asked something of Dilana, to which she replied that Jamie asked and she didn't know how to be quiet. Dave was amazed that Lukas was cool about all of it, as it must have hurt what was said about him. Lukas burshed it off, but as he mumbles and the audio from America's Next Top Model was HUGE at this point I don't know exactly how he brushed it off. Dave told them all that they need to grow when it comes to this, as it will be thrown at them a lot, just ask Tommy. He says the four of them walk around with targets on their back all the time and they will be winners of a reality show.
Storm Large, Toby Rand, and Patrice Pike were in the bottom three as the voting began, but as time went on, one other person landed in the bottom at some point. That was Magni, he was the first into the bottom three, and chose to perform the Jimi Hendrix classic Fire. Okay, I don't like Jimi Hendrix, I'm sure I'm an infidel for it. I don't like Jimi and I didn't like this performance. No, the audio from America's Next Top Model was gone by this point so that wasn't my problem. I just didn't like it.
Next into the bottom was no surprise - Soccer Mom. Patrice choose to do Middle of the Road by the Pretenders. Once again, I don't like the song, so I didn't really like the performance. Patrice gave it her all by doing a different arrangement for it, but we all knew it wouldn't be enough - not for her fourth trip to the B3!
Last into the bottom was Toby, which was a surprise for Tommy. Toby said he'll never take off his top again. He performed Plush by Stone Temple Pilots. It was a really good performance. I'm starting to like Toby more too now, and that's bad for him. Contestants I like either disappoint me (Dilana) or get booted off (Mig, Jordis, Marty).
Gilby Clarke tells Patrice he's happy she got to share her original with the world, but it was her 4th trip to the B3. Magni had it two weeks in a row, but did do a killer version of Fire. As for Toby, they thought he was good enough to sing their song today, so they thought it was nuts. It does say something when people vote you into the bottom however and he should think about that for next week as he's not leaving yet. Tommy gave Patrice the bad news that it's her 4th trip to the B3, and they have to listen to their fans, who buy the tickets. Dave congratulated her on making it this far. Patrice thanked the band, and said that on the long list of amazing things that have happened to her, this is at the top.
Next week will be viewer's choice week, which should be interesting for everyone.
Oh, and am I the only one who wonders if Dilana is really the top vote getter? She seems to think she is, because she hasn't had to stand up at all, or hasn't landed in the bottom three yet. But simply "standing up" doesn't mean you're not the top vote getter. It just means that at some point you landed in the bottom three, but maybe they pulled it out in the end! I don't think Dilana is getting nearly as many votes as she thinks she is.
I wish they had gotten on her case a bit more for her bad behaviour, but this will have to do I suppose. I don't think her fellow rockers will be too awfully nice in the future to her, which is not a good position for her to be in when it comes to song selection! I can't wait until next week!

Dilana, Lukas, Toby and Magni are still my favs. Lukas is quite well-rounded, B and B+ in all areas. Dilana is A- and A+ in all aspects except his behavior. First of all, I was a big fan of her and thought about watching her if she fronts SN. But my enthusiasm has cooled down, her attitudes shows that she thinks she's a bigger star than the SN band.
One thing I noticed, Dilana is great in live concert but she does not sound as good in recording. When I listen instead of watching her performance, it is not as good. Magni's singing was great this week, but his stage presence was bland. So Magni is a reverse of Dilana. I liked Toby's performance because of the energy at the end, first half of his performance was not inspiring.. so was a lot of his past performances.. Toby and Magni need to keep upping their energy level. If I have to guess the top 3 now, I will say Lukas, Toby and Dilana. Sorry, I do not support Ryan because.. he is not a band material, he's definitely more a soloist. Plus I hate it when singers lose their voice or miss key on stage.. and he did it not once but in several occassion (Losing my religion encore and this week's original). IMO, that lack of control is a big no-no.
I hope Magni can bring it next week to stir it up a bit.

I am planning my vacation the first week in September so that I am not travelling on Tues. or Wed. This show is the only one that is "must see, TV", (until LOST and the Amazing Race are back).
Dilana was my first pick for number 1, until I saw the clips from last week. No matter the editing, she still came across as arrogant and petty. There should be no reason to trash others when you are high on the totem pole. I think that the song she should sing for "People's Choice" is Aretha Franklin's RESPECT. Her last two performances also were sub-par or below the quality of her beginning performances. I still think she may "win", but she has lost my vote.
Lukas came up a lot in my esteem for his very professional and adult attitude in the interviews. I still do not care for most of his performances. The few times I have had a glimpse of his voice without the "growl" have been promising. I am still watching for his performance that will make me a believer.
Magni has been in my Top 3 from the beginning. He has upped his "game" as the show has progressed. I love his professionalism, his voice, his look and his "Mini-Me". Is he for SN? I don't know, but I would by a CD with or without SN. (I also am a believer that all performances do not have to be "over the top" with the rocker trying to "put on a performance".....I like to listen for the music and sometimes understated works.)
Ryan has also been in my top 3. I like his look (HOT) and love that he can change his performances around to different styles. I also love his voice and will buy a CD with or without SN. The "brooding", well don't most of the performers need a "schtick" or something to give them their individuality.....he will mellow as he gets in the groove. He is very talented musically, writing, playing different instruments and singing. I'm looking forward to watching his career. Other posts have mentioned his comment to Tommy--"I got laid". This was a comeback to Tommy's comment a couple of weeks back from the piano performance, that it would get him laid. I took it as "humor", not his being a "horndog".
Toby, also a favorite. I was very impressed with both performances Thursday. He upped his game, when he needed to, since the few performances for the past couple of weeks had been not been as good. I think he has a good chance to be chosen by SN. He is good-looking, sings well and seems to be able to run with the big dogs.
Storm Large (strongly favors Lisa Hartman--both very pretty women). I think that she is talented. The last couple of songs were judged more harshly than they should have--let's face it--how many people like the song "I Will Survive"--I hate the song, still she did what she could with cr-p. Should she be the one chosen for SN--I don't know, but I think she will be sent home soon.
It seems a lot of people do not like the SN songs. The one with Toby had a catchy sound. I kind of liked the hey-hey-hey, ho-ho-ho. I will hold final judgement until I hear the rest of their songs and listen to them a few times. I have a couple of CD's which I didn't like the first time I listened to them and have grown to really like, once I have listened to them more than once.
What I am really sad to read on some of the posts are all the poster's who keep putting the guys of Supernova down for being "has-beens". So what if they aren't 25, it doesn't mean that their lives are over. Give them credit for trying something different. Who knows what they will accomplish in the future. Everyone has ups and downs in their lives and careers. It says something to me that they are endeavoring to do something different.
Last year, I was incredibly disappointed that JD won, but he seemed to work for INXS. I never liked "Pretty Vegas", no matter how many times I heard it. I congratulate him and INXS on their success (I just didn't contribute to it).
I am not taking this year as seriously. If I like who is picked as the lead, I may buy a CD. If I don't, then I won't. Wouldn't it be absolutely GREAT, if the Houseband chose a "loser" and made a CD--I would beat everyone to the store to buy it. They are incredible and I would buy it with any of the singers.
I wish all of the rockers well, those I like and those I don't. They have all made Summer 2006 interesting.
Thanks for this great site and all of the Members who write, ya'll are cool.

Dave Navarro's post today had some good info for my Peeps. from 6767.com
Sunday Taping
Three more weeks left of Rockstar: Supernova. Someone goes home this week, next week and then we will be down to our final four and that's it! Everyone left is talented and strong as a vocalist, so it's going to be an intense couple of weeks full of twists and turns. As it stands, I can pretty much imagine several of the remaining contestants taking this job, but of course, I have my favorites. It's weird, because even though I have an idea of who I'd like to see win this thing, I'd also like to see it go to a totally unexpected contestant, if only to fulfill some sort of selfish need for dramatic flair. We are taping the show for Tuesday today and from what I understand, the songs that they will be doing are viewer's choice. I know, they are songs that we have heard before, but there is the added dimension of someone potentially getting a song that they are not comfortable with. Remember, this week, regardless of what happens, half of the cast will be in the bottom three. I guess we will see just how bad Dilana's comments hurt her in the poles. My prediction? Storm, Ryan and Toby. Disagree? Then VOTE! One thing I will say about Dilana that she has going for her is the fact that people either love her or hate her. The fact that she has THAT profound of an effect on people in my opinion is a strength. Of the two bands I have worked with, both of my lead singers have conjured similar reactions from the public. It's like they say, better to have them hate you than have them not care one way or the other. (I don't know why they say that, but they do.) Lukas, kind of gets the same reaction too. Ryan, Storm, Magni and Toby appear to be either loved or just considered, "good but not right for Supernova." I have never read any strong disdain for them on this blog, but I haven't really read anything about them anywhere else. It's enough for me to try to keep up with all of the comments here. I must admit, that with each week, I am starting to dig Ryan more and more. I'd like to see him go all the way too. darn! Even I am flip flopping on this. Lukas, Ryan and Dilana? Top three? Tough to say. I do see Storm as doing well regardless of the outcome as she does have that solo artist vibe. TONIGHT: STORM LARGE. That just looks right on a marquee, as does TOBY RAND. I guess that for me, Lukas, Magni and Dilana feel more like lead singer, band member types. Ryan I can see it working for either way. This is all a bunch of "what ifs" anyway. The one thing I am absolutely certain about is that whatever happens, the five that don't make it have to get going immediately with their own careers if they are going to let this show give them a leg up. Every once in a while someone will ask me, "Whatever happened to Jordis?" The remaining six should start putting their exit strategy in place now. The public at large (not the die hard fans) tends to forget pretty quickly. As I told Patrice, get going on your own material yesterday! I don't know if that comment made it into the final show, but I meant it. Remember the outcry for Phil Ritchie? I haven't heard his name mentioned in a long while. I hope he is cranking it out with his band right now. Somehow, I'm pretty sure we will be hearing from Zayra. She has already become somewhat of a pop culture figure, appearing on Talk Soup, etc. Smart move. She wasted absolutely no time.

Is it only me that has wondered why they havnt had any songs from Metallica, GNR or Motley Crue?? Irregardless of how we all felt about Dilana's big mouth peer bashing (and they are her peers whether she wants to admit it or not), why was Dave the only one questioning her attitude - alot of silence from SN. Makes you wonder what THEY think. I just keep hearing Jason saying over and over about "repercussions" -- could they possibly kick her out if she finds her way to the bottom three?? Although I agree she has a fantastic voice (raspy as it is), I dont see SN picking her because they dont need a diva. Theres a fine line between humility and pushiness and i think Dilana crossed it on Vegas night when she told Tommy to send the rest of the !$#*'s home because she's ready. Tommy didnt comment one way or another. And after her expertly placing both feet in her mouth on press night you have to wonder if Tommy really needs someone who "screwed up" with the press. Lord knows he's had enough of his personal life in the press - he has got to be thinking that with her as a bandmate what else she may screw up on in the future. I also have to wonder that since Dave and Tommy are the executive producers on this that maybe just maybe, Dave will have a say on or an influence on who will win??? Just something to ponder. In all honesty i'm a Storm fan but i think it will be between Magni and Lucas.

Let's flirt with the whole hard rock/metal vibe, and all the while alienate most of the metal audience that we could pull in to watch ??? The study diet of "Talking Heads","Hole","Duran Duran","Radiohead","Rem",Phil Collins","Stp","Nirvana","Sting","Cyndi Lauper" etc- is totally vomit inducing! Should have brought the "Dio" along and left the "Devo" at home.-- Think im going to sue for hours invested hoping to actually see someone do a little heavy metal. Thanks for nothing CBS! You Suck !!

They can only do the songs for which CBS is willing to fork over the money. They gotta pay licensing and performance fees. That's why you hear a lot of the same songs/artists as last year, because they already paid the licensing fees, which are based on audience size/venue revenue. So CBS would have to pay a heck of a lot more than say you're local club/bar.
I don't know about Tommy Lee, but I'm guessing Jason and Gilby have very limited authority, if any, on the licensing of Metallica and GNR songs. Axl Rose is a control freak (and being sued by Slash and Duff over the publishing rights), and most of the Metallica songs, if I'm not mistaken, are creations of James Hetfield and Lars Ulrich. Plus Jason's out of the band, so that further weakens his position, no doubt.

Dilana is still the one to beat as for talent. She has what it takes to front SN. But the big question is???? Will the guys of SN be able to take Dilana getting more action then any of they do? Both girls and guys.
As for those of you that bailed on Dilana due to a few bad comments. You all suck, don't even think the boys didn't make comments about each other and Dilana. Who needs fair weather fans

If it was not for Dilana's own fat mouth, I believe SN would pick her for sure. Dilana's performance and ability to generate fans of her own is outstanding. The way I see it, Magni is the best if SN targets CD/recording sales.. but SN's tightly scheduled upcoming live performances/gigs tells me that they have already planned to make as much money as possible on tours. They will capitalize on their short live fame and tour as much as possible, I think their fame will last probably for 2 max 3 years. That's because this is a more mature band.. don't wanna say 'has-been' but have to if their songs continue to stay at this level. I've to listen to them several times to reach.. "It's okay/not as bad".
I bet SN was pretty psyched-up with the Dilana of a couple of weeks back because that Dilana was a star, probably even bigger than SN and could probably bring SN a lot of fame and new followers/cults.. but that has died-off a lot after her debacle. But I'm going to make a prediction here, if she can put on a "memorable" performance (as Gilby puts it) tonight that outshines everyone else, fans will "forgive" last week's incident. Why? Because all we want is a good show, if she brings it, that's all that matter. I'm sure a lot will disagree, until that happens, this theory leaves to be proven. Granted, now that everyone else have upped their game, it will not be easy. In real estate it's location-location-location. In Rockstar Supernova, it's "song choice-song choice-song choice". Who knows, she may still have an individual song waiting to be used, I think this is the time .. if she gets that opportunity. Can't wait, tonight should be exciting! :-)

I think that all the singers are doing a wonderful job. I am not at all displeased by Dilana's recent interviews. I think that each one left would have done exactly the same thing if they had the balls to do it. Keep up the good work, you're all doing a great job.

We are really rooting for Lukas...he's different...Dilana sounds like she has smoked cig's for years - a sound we are all a custom to hearing in the rock world...Lukas brings flavour -(know you can tell I'm Canadian)- I'll be honest- Dilana really disappointed us with her back stabbing and diception. SN should take cover from this - - - --. and Run like hell!!!! Magni, Storm and Toby are extremely talented but not SN style in my opinion- They should go Solo-I'd buy the cds --however I'd pay money to see Lukas...Ryan I feel does everything just to please the band and isn't being true to himself...does appear to be a true rocker...Comes down to the votes -hopefully Lukas will be on top...go Canadian Talent!!!

I just wanted to say that Dilana is my fav. even after the "interview" Lukas is a good performer and will probably win for that alone. I dont think a woman would be a good fit ,only because I dont think Tommy Lee could not try and do Dilana. Not a good idea for a band.........................shes got a great body for a midget. STORM will be eliminated next then RYAN.

I believe having an opinion is a good thing, but as sad as this may be this show isn't about attitudes or personalities. It's about who has the best singing and performing talent. In the end, Delana is one of the top best singers in the show. So, for all of those who are saying that she needs to go home for her b!tchy attitude, the truth of the matter is that she probably won't. That's technically not the point of the show.

I think that dilana is a stuck up, too sure of herself B!tch! if you ask me.. i mean when the show first started i wanted it to be down to either her or lukas.. now i'm all for lukas and cant stand her... tonight when she was in the bottom 3.. she sucked.. i mean that performance was no where near as good as storm or ryans.. and they send ryan home after he shows so much diversity..? WTF MAN! all i know is if lukas doesnt win i'll be pissed but i know he'll do great without supernova.. but i definately wont ever purchase one of those cd's if dilana wins this....

Dilana spoke the truth when she should have remained silent. Supernova will not pick her to front their band. That will work well for her because her talent is too real and raw for them. They feel threatened by her. You kept referring to her as Bitch. Yes she is all bitch- B is for beautiful, I is for independent, T is for talent, C is for candid, and H is for hellbent. Dilana does not belong with an aging, mainstream band desperately trying to be cool.

Its all about Lukas.....Lukas deserves to win, all the while they have been looking for a striking and poignant ROCKSTAR, the have described what they are looking for by using, jeff buckley, freddie mercury, steven tyler,I hate to break it to you all but we all had to look up thoses lyrics too, because the sound of rock sometimes has words that are sung in way we cannot hear, I almost want to laugh laugh when peopkle use that as a reason why they dont want lukas to be the leader, there has never been a rockstar EVER that we could understand every word....LIKE I SAID>>>>LUKAS LUKAS LUKAS * ROSSI * ROCK STAR
