Rock Star: Supernova teaches the lesson of humility

We waited for it, we wanted it to happen. Dilana got her dressing down for her previous bad behaviour, but not before we saw some more bad behaviour from her! While I was hopeful that Dilana would make it to the bottom three on Rock Star: Supernova, she managed to stay out once again. She will land there eventually however, we must just be patient. Meanwhile tonight's episode had a lot of talking and not all of it was from Rock Star! Read on for the rest of the recap!
After the standard recap of yesterday's performances, we head to the mansion where Dilana is still being arrogant. She tells Ryan that without the House Band his performance would have been nothing, as they kicked ass. Ryan Star wasn't happy about that, as he said to just let him have his moment. Dilana tells Ryan that she's getting more votes than him (as a side note she knows this how? Ryan was in the bottom three once perhaps he's been getting more votes than her all those other weeks!) because from week one she gave it her all, then says she's not trying to get a dig at him. Ryan tries to interrupt, but the arrogant b!tch tells him to just not interrupt for a second. Ryan wants to know if b!tch thinks that's where her fans came from, the first night. She says yes, as she's been strong from week one. Magni tells her that they're growing, but she's just doing the same thing over and over (did anyone else want to just kiss his little iceman cheeks right then?). Ryan says it's easy for her to criticize, but it's something else to be modest, graceful, and show respect to others above and below you. That's what a real winner is, he says.
The next morning, the rockers check out the pages made by the fans over at Windows Live Spaces. They browse through some reactions, including one that says Ryan and Dilana should front the band together. Ryan says he would shoot himself first while b!tch says she would shot him. She says it's interesting that the fans are thinking about it, but it's the last thing she would think about, over her dead body. Back to the show, where Dave Navarro says that having that instant connection to the fans, there is nothing like it.
Dave talks to Dilana, saying he's shocked by her attitude. The fans came up with that dual lead singer thing and her reaction is to shoot him? B!tch tells Ryan she loves him and apologizes that it came across like that, but she's the big B!TCH this week and would hate to tour and share the stage with anyone as part of two lead singers. He wondered if she was joking when she said Ryan would be nothing without the house band. B!tch first says "no I was not joking" then when the audience drowns her out, she tries to fake it like she was joking. Was I the only one who thought she did a very quick backstep after the audience reacted so violently? She then said that she did not mean what she said. Dave wonders what any of them would be without the house band (my reaction, they would suck, because house band * rocks). He wonders as well if she is threatened by the dark horse. B!tch says that she isn't threatened by anyone as she competes with herself.
On to Dave and Ryan, Ryan says that what B!tch said to the guys in SN was the most graceful she had been in awhile. It was nice to see her be a bigger person. She has a lot of fans and when you're on top, Ryan says, if you talk down to people it shows disrespect. That's another side of you that people won't look up to her for. For her own benefit, Ryan suggests she be more positive when she talks about other people. (All of that was a very political way to simply tell B!tch to STFU!)
Then it was time for another Supernova track. First we saw a clip of all the rockers performing the new song with the band. Patrice said that everyone brings a different flavour to the band. Magni says there is no room for error, you have to kill it each time you get onstage. Jason Newsted says that it was fun, but one person stood out and that was Toby. Toby Rand got to perform "Be Yourself and 5 Other Cliches" with the band. It was a nice sound, the music part of it sounded very much like a White Stripes sort of rhythm. Overall I thought it was pretty good.
Then we got to see the interview section that was in the reality webisode. You can read momROCKS recap for more about that. Don't forget we need a webisode recapper for next week too!
First up was Lukas Rossi, who said that the media is part of being a rockstar and you have to know how to handle it. He was shown being interviewed by Mark Long from Fox Reality Remix . Mark wanted to know if Lukas was a fan of the guys in Supernova growing up. Lukas said he had sex the first time to Metallica's Unforgiven. Kevin Dickson of In Touch Magazine wondered if Lukas could handle a year with the band. Lukas said it depended on the type of medicines they invent. On to Jamie White, who asked Ryan if Dilana had an edge right now. Ryan started to answer as Jason came walking in, then stuttered a bit. He then said that the band have made it clear that it's open until the end. Jason said that there is a lot of crash course stuff for the person who wins, and overall it comes down to representation. Back to Kevin who asked Lukas if anyone was faking it to get the job. Lukas said of course, but then wouldn't answer who as he didn't want to "dog" anyone. Jason is then shown saying that when you are in the press and you talk negatively about some person there will be repercussions due to that, no matter what. Then we were on to the Dilana section, which got her into so much trouble. She started out by saying she wanted to strangle Lukas every day, as he's a different person all the time and just hits her nerve. The female interviewer was just overjoyed to hear this from the look on her face. Jamie then delights in telling Lukas that Dilana thought he was difficult and wanted to save him. B!tch is worried about him as he gets moody and goes to a dark place. Lukas says Dilana can mind her own business. He doesn't think it's for Dilana to say that when she doesn't know who he is. Dilana then tells Kevin that she knows who is serious about this and who is along for the ride. Toby and Magni are mentioned, but the audio became too hard to hear at this point.
As they started the recap of the interviews, the audio of America's Next Top Model started to break through our sound. I do not know if it was just our TV, our station, Directv, or everyone. But we shall have to apologize as the next part of the show became impossible to hear at points and therefore our recap of this section is a bit sketchy.
As they went back to the show, the audience was booing up a storm as Brooke Burke asked Dave what's going on. Dave replied that he didn't know what to say, as he finds it unbelievable. He tells Dilana that she's doing so well every week. That was the biggest mistake she made, as you never bag on anyone like that. He was stunned. B!tch says that when Jamie told Lukas I don't know what to tell you *sorry, wrong audio!* When Jamie told Lukas she wanted to save him, B!tch said that she understands Lukas as they are similar. They have *garble* upbringing and she feels like a mother who wants to protect him under her wing. Lukas interrupts that he doesn't need a dove. Dilana says sorry, she didn't know. She adds that she isn't a professional when being interviewed, that it's a learning process. She says she screwed up badly (no really??) and she apologizes to everyone. She says she will learn from it. Dave appreciates her owning up to it, as it takes guts. He asked something of Dilana, to which she replied that Jamie asked and she didn't know how to be quiet. Dave was amazed that Lukas was cool about all of it, as it must have hurt what was said about him. Lukas burshed it off, but as he mumbles and the audio from America's Next Top Model was HUGE at this point I don't know exactly how he brushed it off. Dave told them all that they need to grow when it comes to this, as it will be thrown at them a lot, just ask Tommy. He says the four of them walk around with targets on their back all the time and they will be winners of a reality show.
Storm Large, Toby Rand, and Patrice Pike were in the bottom three as the voting began, but as time went on, one other person landed in the bottom at some point. That was Magni, he was the first into the bottom three, and chose to perform the Jimi Hendrix classic Fire. Okay, I don't like Jimi Hendrix, I'm sure I'm an infidel for it. I don't like Jimi and I didn't like this performance. No, the audio from America's Next Top Model was gone by this point so that wasn't my problem. I just didn't like it.
Next into the bottom was no surprise - Soccer Mom. Patrice choose to do Middle of the Road by the Pretenders. Once again, I don't like the song, so I didn't really like the performance. Patrice gave it her all by doing a different arrangement for it, but we all knew it wouldn't be enough - not for her fourth trip to the B3!
Last into the bottom was Toby, which was a surprise for Tommy. Toby said he'll never take off his top again. He performed Plush by Stone Temple Pilots. It was a really good performance. I'm starting to like Toby more too now, and that's bad for him. Contestants I like either disappoint me (Dilana) or get booted off (Mig, Jordis, Marty).
Gilby Clarke tells Patrice he's happy she got to share her original with the world, but it was her 4th trip to the B3. Magni had it two weeks in a row, but did do a killer version of Fire. As for Toby, they thought he was good enough to sing their song today, so they thought it was nuts. It does say something when people vote you into the bottom however and he should think about that for next week as he's not leaving yet. Tommy gave Patrice the bad news that it's her 4th trip to the B3, and they have to listen to their fans, who buy the tickets. Dave congratulated her on making it this far. Patrice thanked the band, and said that on the long list of amazing things that have happened to her, this is at the top.
Next week will be viewer's choice week, which should be interesting for everyone.
Oh, and am I the only one who wonders if Dilana is really the top vote getter? She seems to think she is, because she hasn't had to stand up at all, or hasn't landed in the bottom three yet. But simply "standing up" doesn't mean you're not the top vote getter. It just means that at some point you landed in the bottom three, but maybe they pulled it out in the end! I don't think Dilana is getting nearly as many votes as she thinks she is.
I wish they had gotten on her case a bit more for her bad behaviour, but this will have to do I suppose. I don't think her fellow rockers will be too awfully nice in the future to her, which is not a good position for her to be in when it comes to song selection! I can't wait until next week!

Lukas didn't say much other than he was surprised what was said about him and that he has "to live with it ... litterally" and that he's bigger than that.
I was disappointed with Dilana big time. Now I hope she loses. I didn't buy her apology for screwing up; she followed it by saying she said what she said to the press because "I don't know how to lie." So which is it Dilana? You're sorry for offending people or you're a righteous truth teller?
And yes, I think she backtracked only because the audience let her have it. I thought that was pretty darn obvious.
I thought Magni rocked tonight. Toby was good too, especially toward the end. Patrice's time was just up finally. She's got talent and I think she would do well with a band and audience that likes Liz Phair style rock. But she's not a good fit for Supernova.
I also liked Supernova's song tonight more than last week's. Though I still didn't think it was anything great. Sounds to me like they're just recycling some old blues bar rock sounds.

I thought it was just my TV with the Tyra Banks voice but I guess it was everyone's.
And does anybody know what happened to Patrice's lip? Did she hit it or was it a cold sore that busted open?

If Dilana chokes talking to the press and explaining her actions infront of an audience, hows she gonna go when she lands in the bottom 3??? Worrying for Magni a bit in the bottom 3 again. He may be the first true contender to be knocked off, but my hunch is Storm. I don't like the viewers choice thing for next week, cause it's either them do a song they've already done or a "wildcard". How much money does Burnett have?? Spend some dosh and get them all to play originals or hard rock for a change. Toby looks comfortable infront of SN. Maybe a sign of things to come.

I disagree, I think Patrice's strenght is in her song writting not her performance. She would make a kick *backgroud person to have but onstage her goofy _I think I took too much prosac_ smile is just plain wierd.
Dilana was smokin' the first few weeks but her arrogance/insecurity has won out. B!itch is right, but then the band is looking for someone who can make and is, "dirty rock and roll," so while they will think twice I think she is still on their list.
Storme's insecurities are begining to show... I mean really if you believe you are the shyt then go and sing the heck out of a song, with confidance. That has been lacking the past two show's. I think she is a phenomenol performer but she leans towards her background education rather than the dirty rock side.
I frickin' love this show though.. ( and I generally hate reality shows). I would love to hear them sing Nebakanezer by the black crows. One of my fav songs.

I feel that MAGNI would be a great addition to SN...
He is an awesome singer not to mention a great performer. He also seems very easy to get along with. If I were in a band that would be a major consideration to me. Dilana may be to full of herself to be with SN. Ryan is also a good singer but I still feel that MAGNI is the best choice for SN.

Oh Dilana! OK, so you screwed up. and now all the kids don't want to play with you. Its a cruel world, and not everyone is ready to deal with the press. This is something that will come with time. The SN boys all learned the hard way. Once your become part of the band they will show you the way.
Girl, have a drink and don't beat yourself up. Move on.
And remember bad press is better than no press. SN will make the final decision.

In the past few weeks I have had favorites
#1 Magni
#2 Dilana
#3 Ryan
The whole thing with Dilana has turned me sour against her. I am surprised that Dave was the only one that called her out on that. It makes me think that the band has already picked her as their front person.
Storm is starting to get on my nerves with her all her faces and movements...she should be on Broadway not the front person for a rock band

Ok, can't everyone see what's going on. Dilana was and should still be the front runner. I think the SN wants Lukas - who can't sing to save his life. What on earth does he do to his throat when he sings. And can you face the crowd and not the band? So what if Dilana was honest - and doesn't anyone else think it's funny that they only showed Ryan's, Lukas's and Dilana's interviews? Where was everyone else. I think SN was afraid that the fans would vote Dilana to the end and they had to throw her under the bus to start trouble. I say keep on voting for Dilana ALL THE WAY. She outsings, outperforms and out does everyone else. GO DILANA

Yeah, well, everyone has their weak points. In a contest like this, it's going to show sooner or later. Either your voice, your movements on stage, the way you look when you sing, your inappropriate comments, your turning your back on your audience...........it's all going to come out.
Face it, if these guys were 100% they would already be a "star".
What I don't appreciate is you labelling someone "bitch". Dilana * up, you look at her face, she knows it. She's riding higher than maybe ever and she blew it and she ate crow. What she did wasn't cool, but as Dave N said, he's done it and you learn.
Your sexist attitude isn't very cool dude.

Dilina , well now she has shown her true colors. SN you might want to think this out. She is a great preformer but she is a DIVA and I don't think Tommy will share the stage with a bigger diva . SN would do well with Toby or Magni.
I would not listen to the band for any reason if that evil Dilina won this. Sorry I think her bad attitude over rides her talent.

Ryan has always been the best singer bar none. I've watched each of his performances and he is 'the one' who grows as a performer and brings it to the stage. Yes, he has some stage presence to master but that can be molded. You can't beat his raspy, intense vocals and the 5th week when he played the piano 'Saving My Religion' was the performance that left me with goosebumps. I'd buy a SOLO C.D. of his any time. Dilana was a total bitch tonight and she's far overrated.

Okay Dilana stuck her foot in her mouth. But so what! Don't let your "favorite rocker" fool you with all their "niceness". They all want it equally and they are all salivating when the other one makes a fool of themselves. You saw how Ryan egged Dilana on. He knew she was in trouble. Since she may seem to be the biggest threat, she has the bullseye on her back. And to fault her for stating that "she is the one"...well, of course she believes she is the one. Why do you think she is there? They all have made similar statements at various times. However, she shouldn't be mean-spirited either. I hope it has taught her.
Maybe though she would reconsider being selected together with someone else as long as it wasn't Ryan. When she sang that Cindy Loper song almost as a duet...it Rocked! She and Toby or Magni would be great together!!! What a well rounded group it would be...yes just my opinon.

Ryan is a screamer although he has had some good performances. He doesn't do it for me. Dilana shocked everyone with her rudeness but is still the best performer/singer. Ilove Storm's voice and flexibility. She can sing anything. Magni is great on the slow songs but not as much with the antics. Toby is cute and good but not a star. Lukas is unstable and inconsistant. That's my take

Very interesting. I really like Magni. And Ryan is definitaly growing on me as well. I still think that Dilana would make the best fit with the band...BUT...I'm wondering if Dilana is getting the most votes, but SN is leaning more toward one of the guys and they are trying to show her in a bad light. (You know me and conspiricy theories) And you know, ole Lukkas surprised me with his control over what was said about him. Kudos for him, he knows how to handle himself with the press and under pressure.

I'm backing Ryan all the way. The guy has class and integrity, and he's really bloody serious about fronting the band. His original song was pretty cool, and he's intelligent about how he makes his choices. For example, he didn't get piss drunk when they went to Vegas, knowing full well Supernova would be watching for that; he has grown over the weeks by following SN's advice; when he was chosing his original song, he chose one that he felt would work best with SN's sound.
I was backing Magni, but for me now it's Ryan all the way.

Ha.. and Wow! I was such a fan of Dilana and absolutely loved all of her performances except for the last two weeks. Every week I hoped to see what other tricks she can pull of our her hat, last two was a bit flat for her standard. I taped Tuesday's show and watched it several times before I voted (btw, I voted for Toby and Magni). Back to Dilana, I believe she was uncomfortable/sour with Ryan and Lukas and here's why. Dave called Ryan the Dark-Horse Star, to me that means he's still in the hunt and she probably felt threatened by those comments. As for Lucas, IMO, the crowds love him.. he starts to grow on me slowly. I believe what Gilby said about him turning his back, "Don't worry about us, we will cover you, these are your crowd". I thought Gilby was trying to encourage Lucas which looked defeated in the beginning of the show. Everyone grew and stepped up big time except for Patrice, IMHO. Kinda bumped that Magni and Toby were at the bottom two. At this point, my liking for Dilana has definitely cooled quite a bit... yet I believe she is still the best overall performer so far. Sure make things interesting!

It's guests like you that piss me off big time. Dilana has thrown herself under the bus, as you put it. I'll quote her; Toby is "just here for the ride" and apparently Magni's kids are his only "focus". Give us a break. She also said Patrice shouldn't be here which everyone already knows, but saying that is so disrespectful its pathetic. Can't wait for her to be kicked off hopefully before finale night. It'll be an all guy finale with Magni or Lukas to miss out. I'm sorry, but I don't see anything from Dilana that would make me wanna buy a ticket and see em, I'd be running from the ticket office quick smart!

I know this is about singing, writing and performing, but there's something I have to say: Dilana's outfits are sooooo 80s and overworked that I can't imagine how SN think they can really make it with her today. The SN guys keep their style but they've made it cool, while she just looks like Cindy Lauper trying to be a punk, with eyelashes and all.

I just don't think Toby has it. His vocal performance of Laya was amateurish , just plain awful and the delivery was embarassing. I think his target audience are a bunch of 12 year olds. I think his elimination is long overdue.

Although I thought Dilana stuck her foot in her mouth, I don't think is was as bad as people are making it out to be. And I disagree that she backtracked ... I understood her to be saying it didn't come across quite the way she meant it, so yes, she meant it, but not quite the way it sounded.
And let's be honest here, the 'reporter' was deliberately trying to fuel some controversy. Dilana didn't handle it well. Lukas did the right thing by walking out. And please! Let's not get gushy over Ryan Star ... he's the biggest ***kisser I've ever seen, and will do or say whatever he thinks the audience wants to see/hear. Maybe he should run for politics. The fact that he shut his trap so fast his teeth clacked when jason walked in speaks more than anything he actually said.
Can't say much about the performances tonight .. all rather bland .. once again, the standout was the house band's lead guitarist. Patrice is gone, despite finally finding her groove the past few weeks. Too little, too late.
I'm going to predict Storm gets eliminated next week. Dilana is the only female with even a remote chance of winning the gig, and though they'll throw some roses on it, Storm's on the chopping block because of her sex.
ps: yes, my previous comment about the 'recap' was referring to the one in-show. Sorry if I ruffled someones feathers.
