Ricky Martin recently recorded a show for MTV Unplugged. The show will play on MTV's latin channels, though an airing on the standard MTV US channel is not out of the question. The album will be released in November. During the 12 taping, Ricky played three new songs.
The best received of the trio was "Tu Recuerdo," an intimate acoustic ballad with flamenco tinges performed with "Unplugged" arranger Tommy Torres on guitar and singer Mari of Spanish group Chambao. It was penned by Torres. Christian Zalles and Juan Carlos Perez Soto wrote the melancholic "Con Tu Nombre," and the grand finale was the uptempo "Pegate," based on the traditional bomba rhythm of Puerto Rico and boosted by rich percussion and a big horn section.
Those hoping for unplugged versions of "The Cup of Life" or "Livin' la Vida Loca" will be disappointed, as Ricky did not perform those. After the taping, Ricky announced he would begin a tour in February.
