This week's Rock Star: Supernova Webisode starts with the standard recap of last week. The six remaining rockers find out the fans will be voting to pick their songs last week on the Internet. Short clips of all the rockers from performance night. Then the next night, Toby with the on core, and the bottom three, Storm Large, Ryan Star, Dilana. Ryan is the next to go.
Back to the mansion, a toast to Ryan. [Too tired of Dilana making everything about her, I wish to skip her telling how the show is all about her and missing lyrics, excuse me bitch someone else went home!] Since Ryan was gone Magni stepped up and served up the reward for the encore smashing cake in Toby Rand's face. This lead to drinks being thrown in faces and an all out brawl ending with Lukas taking the cake in the face for doing the Supernova song. This ended with everyone jumping in the pool, fully clothed. Well, except Storm, was she just in her panties? Sitting wet around the pool, Toby states that Lukas Rossi will be coming down from his room in fresh clothes and fresh make-up. Jump to the room, there's Lukas new clothes and applying a fresh coat of make-up. I guess Toby knows his roommate! Back to the pool deck, Storm being cheerleader as always, and Dilana being, Boo Hoo, all about Dilana and how she was in the bottom three. Suck it up and lets not go there anymore.
The remaining five hear the new song. Lukas of course starts singing his version. Toby runs out not wanting to be tainted by Skunk boy's melody. Everyone is busy writing. Dilana is having another whine session, poor me I hope I can do this. The group heads to the Gibson studio to work on their songs with Gilby Clarke.
Storm up first. Maniac Nightlife (or Nightlight? hard for me to tell?) is the name of Storms creation. Gilby says Storm is always a pleasure to work with and liked how professional Storm is with her work. She has the right balance of having fun while doing the job.
Magni has trouble with writing in English. Gilby says he's disappointed with the lyrics, just not exciting. Gilby asked for the title, Magni didn't have one. Gilby named the song Camouflage. Gilby doesn't know if Magni is creative enough?
Lukas comes in with bits and pieces, the melody and one verse and a chorus. Gilby liked what he heard...but he worked with Lukas on another verse. Gilby was irritated that he came in with just enough to get by. He worked with Lukas on writing the rest of the song more than the other rockers. Gilby says Lukas is in competition with himself. Gilby feels Lukas thinks he's in the lead and the competition is his to lose.
Toby came prepared. Gilby says that sometimes lyrics can get cliche and redundant but Toby's stuff isn't. He brought really really good stuff. Gilby says Toby has a fresh new approach, he's younger and has more energy and that's something they need! Gilby thought Toby's contribution was the most complete! He praises Toby on his rhythms. He feels Toby is listening to Supernovas music as a whole package (Lukas listens song by song) Toby got it! He told Toby "we don't want a puppet". Toby liked the comment he told Gilby it was the best thing he'd said all day. Gilby says he has no suggestions, when it rolls it rolls!
Enter Dilana. Supernova isn't sure of her song writing ability. Dilana comes in with lyrics totally from the heart and her song called Metamorphosis Lizard Skin, based on people on the Internet who vote for the contestants/Supernova, "a screw you" song? Gilby thought the lyrics were cliche, even though it was her best so far, but too predictable. Dilana sings "control alt delete". Gilby states it doesn't look like she has a big imagination. Now the boo hoo part, Dilana explains to us how she didn't know that in this competition song writing would be such a big issue. She auditioned to be the singer, because basically that's all she's done is be the singer.
Gilby comes in to tell us that artists these days are getting ahead by writing their own songs. Now it's what are you (the contestants) going to bring to us. So if you're not bringing anything, what the heck do I need you for?
Now we're back to the Mansion for song choice. Five songs and a letter to the final five have been left for them.
"We are so close now to making our decision and how you perform as a front person is key. So this week, each of you will perform your own set, as well as choosing a song from the board, we want to hear an original song from all of you. In between songs, the Rock Star Stage will be yours to keep the audience interested and entertained. Make it count!
Good Luck.
SUPERNOVA"
Dilana points out that Zayra, Patrice and Ryan did originals and they are all gone. So you know you are going to be judged. Then they begin fighting over songs.
Magni announces ok lets start fighting. Lukas and Dilana want the same song, Behind Blue Eyes. Dilana wants the song because the lyrics are about what is going on in her life right now (because we know everything is about Dilana). Lukas wants it, Dilana wants to discuss their reasons behind wanting it. Lukas says he doesn't give a *&%$ about the reason he just likes the melody and it's a cool song. Magni dares Lukas to do a Beatles or a Bon Jovi song. So Lukas says he will do Livin' On a Prayer because the rest of them were chicken. Lukas says it's a challenge and a risk to do this Bon Jovi song. Toby says Lukas can muck with the song and rework it so it's awesome.
To the Studio: Storm her song "What the * is Lady Like". The last few weeks she has lost herself. Trying to dress sexy and show more skin, it was stupid, it's not her. She has to be true to herself and Rock. Supernova wants to see "HER" and she hasn't shown them "HER" yet. Storm, "so here I am, I'm Storm Large, and I'm a freak."
Dilana says she only knows Behind Blue Eyes from Limp Biscuit. Paul says Dilana had never heard parts of the song. Paul felt when people come in and want to change a song without knowledge of the original, you're changing it from a position of ignorance. Dilana thought some of the song sounded Country? She sings "No one knows what it's like to be the sad girl, to be the bad girl." She's going to win back her fans, she needs them, and they need her. Dilana yells "encore"...and the scene fades away.
Short clips of each rockers original song rehearsal.
They leave us with the contestants playing pretend double dutch jump rope. Lukas jumps in while Storm and Toby pretend to flip the ropes. Lukas' pants fall to his knees and they all break into laughter. Dilana and Lukas jump in for a turn together. Then Magni tries to run in but falls to the pool deck. (quite funny) Toby runs over and kicks him, all in fun. Ends with Magni crying out...Ooooohhhhh he kicked me.
Despite Sprout's eloquent defense of Dilana, I still find myself with a bad taste in my mouth regarding her. You can take out the whole press issue, the whole "boo hoo poor me" routine, and still be left with someone who just lost her flavor with many fans. She keeps serving up the same stuff week after week, with no growth. Lukas has grown. Magni has grown. Storm has grown. Toby has grown. Dilana just... hasn't. Yeah, rockers are self-centered, she's got that one down pat - congratulations you're arrogant. Got it. Now let's see something else. I'm sorry, but if I want tears and drama, I get enough between my family and my soaps.
I agree that Dilana has blown whatever capital she had
built earlier. As a musician who has world-toured for over
ten years, I can tell you this: THE biggest negative a touring
musician can carry around is the reputation of being unstable. And
that is precisely how Dilana has begun to appear. Do you think
these grizzled old dino-rockers want to spend day after week
after month in a tour bus with a weepy, pre-menstrual wreck?
Forget about it. NOT going to happen.
The fact of the matter is, I'm convinced that there is no
chance, and never was, of a female fronting this band. Storm
is simply wrong for this spot. A terrible fit. A middle-aged
amazonic blonde has no place on a stage with these 80's
has-beens (or actually never-were's, in the case of GC and JN).
I think Lukas' winning is a foregone conclusion. He has
the needed grunge factor, and his singing, while not stunning,
is as good as any of these final five. But I can almost guarantee
you that Dilana is no longer in contention.
Rockstar supernova is a stupid bitchy show for pussys and fags. Tommy Lee, haha, his porn sucks. I could make a better porn movie out of his grandma. And Dave Navarro, that mother* does more MTV-reality shows than making music. Rockstar Supernova is just a show business, and the participants are no more than a bunch of untalented posers. There are so many better singers around, even here in Nepal, a lot of talented musicians are forced to give up on music due to economic reasons, and there they spend thousands for those fags! Anyway, rockstar supernova is a xerox of American Idol, minus the tattoos and extra unmusicainship.

I too am getting a bit tired of the "woe is me" routine from Dilana. I nearly hurled when she explained why she chose "Behind Blue Eyes" (and what gives, has she never heard of the Who or thought as an rock singer it might be worthwhile checking out some of the classics? This is the second Who song she's covering, and the second time she's never heard the song before).
But that aside, I was a shocked by her declaration that she basically was expecting to front Supernova and not have to worry about songwriting duties at all. So I guess she just wants to be a rock version of Britney Spears or Jessica Simpson? I agree with Gilby that most of the successful rock stars have done at least some song writing.
Otheriwse, you need to have something extra special going for you, at least in my book. You have to have the talent to make the song your own so that fans could never imagine someone else singing it, like a Frank Sinatra or Tony Bennett. Or even a Madonna, who had very little hand, if any, in writing most of her early material. Dilana has shown some potential at that, but I don't know if she can sustain that.
Let's all kneel in quiet awe of Metalfreak, who I hope is a 12 year old boy. If not, look at the brightside folks: just one more person you're smarter than.
Metalfreak . . . didn't school start today? I'm calling the attendance office on you!
Thanx for the recap MomRocks . . . insightful as always.
Re: Dilana. Like Sprout, my first instinct was to stick up for her and allow her some room for bad editing and a high pressure situation. But when the houseband starts speaking bad about you . . . well, we all know the houseband is where the real talent is on this show so their word is gold. Looks like her limitations (song writing, personality, and arrangements) are all converging together for a massive trainwreck tonight. We shall see.
My previous boot order was:
Storm
Toby
Magni
Dilana
Lukas
But I've decided to revise. I'm predicting a Chris-Daughtry-style surprise elimination tomorrow:
Dilana
Magni
Storm
Toby
Lukas
Hooters-loving, hobbit-dancing, make-up boy for the win!

I'll be the first to admit that I'm a little in the dark when it comes to many of the 70's classic rock stuff that forms the basis for most current rock stars (having only a handful of years under my belt by the end of that particular decade). But that being said, after I got into rock, I started to pick up on some of the classics. While I haven't heard all of them yet (like that Pink Floyd song last season or a song or two this season), I have the excuse that I'm not a musician. I also catch up whenever I hear something cool that I've not heard before. For someone who claims to be this hard core rocker to have not heard two songs now that are HUGE classics that even *I* have heard is just... lame.
If you think any of this songwriting bulljive means anything at this point-dream on !Supernova' most likely have the music for their album written and recorded by now, they probably only need to go into the studio and lay down the vocals. Its getting near the end and when they pick their guy/gal its just one step closer that we get to seeing this album in a price reduced cut-out bin.......coming to a record store near you ...They'll end up picking the most "road ready" voice, someone who can belt it out night after night and won't embarrass them too bad live'.
If you have seen any of the stuff on youtube form her band Storm Inc., I think she's been holding back. Those performance are edgier than anything we've seen yet.

This is a good point, if you assume Supernova is going to be a one-album band. Which wouldn't surprise me. They have in fact recorded most, if not all, of the basic tracks.
But I still think there's something to be said for having at least some songwriting talent. That just my own personal bias, but I tend to have a little more respect for rock musicians who do that.
If Supernova genuinely wanted to do more than one album, I would think they'll give the songwriting abilities of the contestants more weight.
As a previous Dilana fan, I can appreciate what dear Srpout said (and I would also like him as my attorney, should I ever need one!!), but after seeing the webisode, I'm sorry, I just can't vote for her anymore. I know, I know, I really should take into consideration the editing, but, man, she is one arrogant, self righteous, biatch! I don't care to surround myself with such types, nor do I buy their cd's or watch their movies, whateva! (used to like Cruise movies, now I won't go near one!)
As to the remaining rockers, I still firmly believe that skunk boy Lukas should NOT win this spot! He mumbles just too darn much for my taste. And his stage presence is, well, not very entertaining.
As for Magni, I love him, love him, love him! But I don't think SN does... which is too bad, imho. He would make a great lead singer for them.
Storm? Well, she is entertaining! And I like her "cheerleader" personality and her professionalism. It's her eyes that freak me out! No, no, not a good fit for SN, again, imho.
This leaves Toby. Who Gilby seems taken with, can't remember if the others in SN do or not, though. He is entertaining. He has a good voice, doesn't mumble, attracts the babes, gets the audience involved, writes good tunes (per Gilby, mind you!). I see him as a "fit' for SuperNova. Not my first choice, mind one, but the one that seems the best to sell CD's, sell out arenas, make the cash for SuperNova.
Just my never to be humble opinion.

Hey. I've been 'indisposed' lately but I'm back for the finale these next 2 weeks.
I simply can NOT understand all the hype about Lukas.
On the other hand maybe I can.
It's been interesting as these singers cover other songs. Sometimes I understand the words for the first time! (Remembering seeing the end of 10 things I hate... and finally understanding the words to "I want you to want me.") However, Lukas takes well-know lyrics and turns them into [John Fogarty/Stevie Nicks/Mick Jagger]-esque unintelligible mumblings.
Of course John, Stevie and Mick are all huge successes.
On the other hand (where did all these hands come from?) perhaps a mumbling lead singer is EXACTLY what SN needs to sing lyrics as poetically awkward as those in "Be yourself and 5 other cliche's"
Dilana: she is FAR FAR to controversial at this moment. Has anyone else followed the cotnroversy about where she got her lyrics for the song? And really- ask yourself, if you were SN, do you want the headlines in 2 weeks to read "Whiny back-biting singer to front new supergroup." methinks no.
Magni and Toby - I have nothing to say.
Now - my personal favorite Storm. I will be the first to admit that her performances over the past 3 weeks have been barely enough to keep her in. (I'm ready and willing to admit the reason they didn't kick her this week was purely a gender thing - keeping the balance). However, I heard her in a radio interview yesterday and she basically said that she pwned the Sunday taping! She couldn't spill much in terms of details because the watchful eye of Rockstar was on her, but she did say that EVERYONE's performances rocked - but she knocked it out of the park.

I am in 100% agreement with Blaze. Although not my favorite, I think Toby will be fronting SN. I still like Magni the best but he seems, dare I say it, a bit more mainstream. I guess I am still having a hard time not seeing Tommy Lee in Big hair band, Motley Crew. And with that image, there is a precident that SN has IMO. And Magni doesn't fit that image.
Okay I'm beginning to think that Dilana ran out of her Celexa about 3 weeks ago. Somebody get that woman some mental medication. I am beginning to wonder if she use to work for the post office!
If you can't be a good example, then be a horrible warning!
I can't help but laugh when Dilana says I wasn't of the impression that this songwriting thing was such a big deal. She's obviously never even read a book before because her "lyrics" were garbage. If she pulls another sympathy card out, someone will have to reshuffle the darn pack!!! I think Gilby might have let a cat out of the bag by saying that Toby brings an energy that they need and I think he's right. Toby was my pick from day one and its only now that people are beggining to see that. I have a few Juke Kartel songs on a CD that I constantly listen too and throwin it all away is one of my favs.
Former dilana fan here wat the heck happened one bad thing happens to u and the world ends. u have prob had the best ride there and u r throwing it away. and wat the heck did u mean by saying i'm back better then ever, back from what? i hope u leave tonight u suc. Lukas don't even let me get started on him, what the heck is he singing i can't understand wat he sings so how r records gonna sell? i want storm or magni to win
love to know why Dilana felt the need to blow her chances, I feel she has blown her chance to redeem herself no matter what she tries to do to make things better. However I still think her singing is still great I just wish things 'in house' were better. Love Magni hope he does well.
i love storm she is such an insperation to all girls that arnt (ladylike) espesilly if your growing up i mean were exspected to act6 a certan way and when we dont were critisied for it. thanks storm for giving me another reason to never change no matter what people say.
ROCK ON....stay powerful and never change pease out
Of all the rock stars on the show...the only one that is different and shows the ability to go far with original talent is Dilana...People are people...but talent is talent..so many beofre her have gone through the same and have come up from the ashes only to become icons...Dilana is not to front Supernova...she is an individual artist that is going to go much furthr than Supernova as the ones who have been chosen to front them are ordinary in comaprisoin to the bands out thre with original sound...sure...they are good musicians...but that is about it...the vocal expressed from Toby, Lukas and Magni are forgetable...but Dilana is not forgettable and she is going to go very far after the show...Many will eat their words...Hide and watch...the outcome is "after" the show..
Lukas-is the ultimate poser, has some talent but basicly dressed up with his makeup and bad heroin addict on the sunset strip fag look to appeal to Tommy Lee. The members of Super Nova kill me, how they take themselves so seriously as musicans. They were has-beens for the most part by the 90's. Gilbey is a smirky little twit, who seems to know it all, funny thing is he was nothing but a temporary scrub for Guns & Roses, what's he done since!. Dilane-I want her, but she wasn't a fit. Magni, Tommy Lee reallyu disliked it was apparent with his stupid looks while the cat was playing. I have a lot of respect for the bloke, since he would not attempt to be their little punk *like Toby & Lukas.
Don't mind me, I'm just a guest.
