Rock Star: Supernova picks their final four curlio
 2006-09-06 21:16:46
Television Rock Star: Supernova prepared for a kick *finale next week, naming their final four rockers. All three of the bottom three rockers gave it their all in order to stay, but naturally someone had to go. I was a little suprised at the eventual outcome, but on the other hand it was sort of expected as well. If you missed it, you'll have to wade through the recap!

Brooke Burke said that the votes this time were almost too close to call. She then told Tommy Lee that he looked tired. It seems that Tommy just got in from the Motley Crue - Aerosmith tour, and is looking forward to the Supernova tour. Dave Navarro then congratulated Brooke on her pregnancy. It seems that Brooke is having a little girl. Dave said that what the world needs is another little Brooke Burke running around.

After the recap of last night's performance, Dave addressed everyone saying their originals were amazing and several were instantly memorable. Lukas Rossi said that playing his original in front of the audience when he's used to playing in front of beer bottles and ashtrays was amazing. He was happy he got to share some of his life. Toby Rand said that he is a happy camper because he has played his original in front everyone, and to play with Supernova. Dave asked Toby if he got more comfortable or what. Toby said it's called EVS. The girls in the audience screamed, Toby thanked them and says maybe in 10 years. Toby said he started to think too much, then he thought EVS.

Then Magni got to perform with Supernova on the next new track, "It's All Love." Magni started out playing guitar, then switched, tossing the guitar to a crew member on the side of the stage. It was a good song, and I adore Magni, but he doesn't feel right with the band. Actually he mostly just doesn't feel right with Gilby Clarke. He did good with Jason Newsted, but Magni and Gilby just didn't seem to have the right chemistry.

The rockers were driven to the show tonight in five new Honda Element SC cars. They were greeted by screaming fans on the red carpet. It seems that whoever gets the encore gets a lovely Honda Element SC. But Jason wouldn't say who until after the break. After the break, we first got the news that Dave Navarro and Panic Channel will join the Supernova tour. Then Toby, naturally, got to perform his original "Throw It Away." The performance was a lot like yesterday, just with more singing along from the audience. Before he started singing, he dedicated it to Crocodile Hunter, Steve Irwin, who died earlier this week.

Now we're down to the meat of the night. It seems that all five of the rockers were in the bottom at some point in the voting. First one into the bottom was Storm Large. Storm decided to perform "Wish You Were Here" by Pink Floyd. I was a bit worried, as that was one of my favorite performances last year by Marty. She did good and had the emotion to it, but Marty has an intensity to his performance that Storm just couldn't manage. It was very nice though. At the end, she dedicated it to her mom.

Next into the bottom three was Dilana, who hopped up on crutches. Gilby told her it was one of the gutsiest performances he's seen, which just made me want to hurl. Give me a break, I've heard performers who have broken bones and seriously cut themselves and still managed to get up onstage before going to the hospital. Don't make it sound like the girl was shot or something. Anyhow, she said she hadn't done punk rock and would be doing Cheap Trick (did I miss the bulletin that said Cheap Trick is punk?). Honestly, I've heard Hanson perform "I Want You Want Me" better than Dilana did. She hopped around and hopped onto the shoulders of some beefy guy who looked like a security guard. Supernova gave her a standing ovation.

When it came time for the third person to the bottom, Magni's name was called first, but he's not in the bottom, he gets to sit back down. Toby joined Magni with a spot in the finals next week. That leaves Lukas as the last one into the bottom. Jason asked him if he was surprised. Lukas said it had to happen sometime and this is his night to make a comeback. He played his original again, "Headspin." This performance seemed like it had much more fire in it than yesterday's performance.

Off to decision time, where Gilby tells Storm that they asked her to bring something different and she did by changing up her performances last night. But this was her second time in the bottom three. Dilana meanwhile has been the one to watch, but was again in the bottom three for a second time. Lukas, as it was his first time in the bottom three can go sit back down. This left Tommy to choose between Storm and Dilana. He couldn't do it, so the job was passed to Jason. Jason told them they are both fantastic performers and they respect them as comrades in rock. Storm is going home however.

Dave told Storm he could have picked anyone to rock with, but he picked her for a reason. He meant what he said last night that it was the best song he's heard in two seasons. He said he'll love it when it comes out. Storm told him that he will love it because he'll be playing on it. He said absolutely and Tommy chimed in that he would be playing drums. Dave told her that she may not have won, but they want to back her up. Storm thanked them for making the show, thanked the people for voting and told the other rockers that they are her family.

That makes the final four rockers - Lukas Rossi, Magni, Toby Rand, and Dilana. Am I the only one that finds it strange that the final four are the four who performed original Supernova tracks? This should add fuel to the conspiracy fire, but Storm never got the chance to perform with Supernova, did she? Oh, and how happy are the Magni fans that Magni did not land in the bottom three? You know he was the one with the "handful of votes" between him and... mmm probably Lukas.

Nicole, you are NO drama queen. I think you have said so eloquently what I, with my limited knowlege of this genre of rock, could never express. So, what I propose is that the producers take your ideas and run with them. You realize you have pitched them a season that will make them trillions, yes? Woman, go pick up your check!!

I thank you for the support. It is, however, even for me, to see them pulling off this elaborate conspiracy conconction that I have hallucinated for the show, but.......Storm.......torn calf muscle ( I do Martial Arts) excruciating........

I think I will join and have at the conversation later on. Thanks.

Lukas Rocks!! His vocals are a little hard to understand, but every week, he is delivering a show that keeps you watching, always changing his look! When he fronted SN, you couldn't take your eyes off of him, all the others were so generic! All the other contestants battle over song selection and give Lukas the worst or last available song or goat him into taking a song they think he'll mess up, but he always turns it around and makes it a original (i.e. Living on a Prayer, watch the SN web episode and see how Magni & Delani goated him into taking it, thinking he'd blow it, and didn't!!) Toby does have alot of talents that would benefit the New Kids on the Block, Magni has a great voice, but you could care less when he is performing on stage (just put a statue out there, with his voice playing in the background); and Delani, please, the crutches and poor songs in the end just show she has run out of gimmicks! Go Lukas, and if SN doesn't pick you, if may be better for you and your own career in the long run!! Lukas Rocks!!

i was wrong in my predictions. Toby will win. Toby's original song is very arena-like, he's a chick magnet, he's got that whole party rock personality, and it looks like he learns and listens to what supernova is like as a whole instead of song by song. Supernova is not interested in dark or deep music.

Toby will win. It's his to lose now.

Dilana, the range of this powerhouse, ring of fire, lithium in week 1, cats in the cradle, and her performance with SN has been amazing. I wonder if the editing to portray her as less than nice was to reign in her huge lead in the voting?? Hmmm, there was no big to do when ryan called patrice a Bi*!h. Smells fishy, and we all know what editing can do or not do for someone, hopefully this was just a test by SN to see what this rocker is made of. I must add that lukas has always sounded to me like he has a frog stuck in his throat when he sings.

Those of you who are Dilana fans... we must be watching totaly different shows. The Dilana I've seen is a REALY awfull singer with no writing talent and has a nasty, unprofesional attitude. Can you imagine being stuck on a tour bus with HER??? All the guys would be on stage with head bandages from her tantrums. She is a one-trick-pony, her 4-pack-a-day voice was kinda cool in the beginning, but now its REALY getting old, and annoying. And the way she dedicates songs to herself and kept repeating her name during "every breath" was totaly LAME.

I was realy sad to see Storm go instead of Dilana, But like a few people here have stated she WAS to good for SN. She has bigger and better things in her future.

Out of the final 4 I am realy chearing for Lucas, hes by far the most talented, and as much as those SN tunes kinda suck I would buy their CD if Lucas was lead singer.

3 years ago I got a SMALL tear in my calf muscle and it hurt like hell. I was not jumping around or driving the next day, it was 3 months before I could walk on it and another 3 months before I was able to go running. Sorry Dilana but I'm not falling for it.

Let's talk demographics again.

I've been reading alot of forums this morning.
Lukas threads... "I wanna have his babies" blech!!!
Toby is "cute" yadda yadda *rolls eyes
Dilana's country twang ? Appealing to those living in the red states here in the USA I'm quite sure.
Magni is "bald" or "too boring"

Professional musicians admire Magni... and it's very likely that anyone who's ever taken a Music Appreciation course in college... also supports Magni. Not to mention... Magni supporters don't seem to be completely obsessed with forums.

I'm thankful that the winner isn't selected by popular vote.

Having seen each member of SN perform live with each of their former bands (a couple more than once), I'm sure that it's just my left over 80's-90's hard rock purist soul; that wants to see dalina front this band. The primal scream she elicits when she "plants her feet and just lets go" to quote jason, calls to an age that has past me by. Its lukas to get the new age neo-punk rocker fans on board. Toby to get the teeny boppers moving on from pop, and the top 40 radio play needed to sell records. So where does that leave the two who are probably the best "hard rock" fit, and most enjoyed by those of us in the Rock genre thats a little older than the other two would appeal to? I guess we'll see what path the SN guys choose to take, are they going to venture toward marketability, or are the going to please those of us who spent much of mom n dads money on their tours, t-shirts, cassettes, and posters. Unfortunately I feel they will take fresh blood (JD Fortune anyone) and go after a whole new generation to spend mom n dads money. I will be surprised if they pick magni or dalina, but I can't say I wouldn't be happy if they did. And Toby, well I guess I'd be the mom spending the money this time around if he wins, but i'd enjoy every dollar of it.

Bits and pieces of a foggy mind!

I heard a couple of interviews in Australlia with Suzie of RSIXS, during the interview the jock said that all the advertising downthere for the show features Toby, go, Australlia, get the point, and for Magni, in Iceland they even had schools open during the voting period with computers tuned to vote, so this is not negative or positive just really interesting. And makes me think about the one person One Vote idea.

As a Suzie Fan I was excited to listen to her new song that is featured in the ads for the biggest loser tv show. This is the commercial, the song sounds like a great power ballad to me, but drugged or not I love my Suzie.

I also think it's a bit harsh giving Toby a serve for dedicating his song to Steve Irwin.

I must say, tears welled up in my eyes when I heard the news. Steve's death is all anyone is talking about over here in Oz and just about everyone you talk to is hurting over it.

Toby is no doubt just as upset as the next Aussie and he just wanted to make a simple gesture to celebrate the life and mourn the death of a fantastic human being.

Steve Irwin spent millions of dollars buying thousands of hectares of land in far north Queensland just so animals had protected habitats to live in.

Steve's contribution has made a difference to the world I live in and the world (and country) that Toby lives in.

Good on you Toby for keeping in touch with what we're all feeling back home.

I wonder if Toby will dedicate a song this week to another Aussie Icon we tragically lost last week.

This was Peter Brock, I don't know if any one in the US has heard of him, but he was one of our most famous racing car heroes, at the age of 61 he wrapped his car around a tree while competing in a rally on Friday.

The deaths have been considered with the same reverance over here, both families offered state funerals. It would be nice if Toby offers Brockie's memory the same respect...

On another note, our two most favourite football codes have their grand finals at the end of the month. If Toby doesn't make SN Juke Cartel should be asked to play at the Aussie Rules GF (it's based in Melbourne) or the Rugby League GF (The Melbourne based team looks set to be there)...

Storm Large was on Ellen today! She was so nice and classy and did the show proud. She said the song "wish you were here " that she dedicated to her mom who died about a year and a half age was mentally ill her whole liife and the sadness of the song written for the Pink Floyd guy who went crazy was so appropiate for her.
She looked prettier than ever by the way and so nice.

Paul from the Houseband was with her and played the piano to accompany her in "We are the Champions".

She said when the SN tour starts in Jan, that the houseband would tour with them and that she would also be there. Yeah, or Amen. I am so glad she is getting something out of this, bigtime, can you imaginine how good she will do doing the best songs with the best costumes. not to mention the house band that is a huge draw itself and the faces of which are more famous than know groups. Good for the boys.

Great advertising for the show this week and the tour, and I'm telling you folks will want to see her and the unbelieveable house band. She of coarse didn't say who would join her from the show, cause we don't know the results yet.

Yeah, Will

I think whatever Supernova comes up with Lucas will make it right. He is hypnotic to watch and puts everything he has into his performances. He is an original. If asked to pick who I would want to listen to out of the last 4 it would be Lucas. I believe he will always entertain unlike Dilana whom I think would become boring. Her voice is too hard as well as her attitude.

Ok, somehow I'm hooked. I keep saying I need to spruce up my curriculum, but can't stay away from this, what is this called? Is this material archived?

Just how many Australians are on this multi-blog? You all have been having quite an historically tumultuous year. I guess you can call Nicole & Keith's wedding tumultuous. At any rate, it's good to have some cross-cultural views.

Back to the subject at hand. I find it so interesting how everyone has a different take on who should be the front mean, ah, man (since some of us have eliminated women all together). Why is it that these guys sneer so much? (Lukas, subtitles, hilarious) The male voices seem to be very distinct and yet, at the same time, the same. As well as, the jumping around on that runway. Hey rockstars on runways. It could be as big as fashion week.

Just how do these guys pick thier man? oooohhh, sounds, well, you know. The boys do love their secret clubs.

It's also amazing to me to watch how Mr. Tommy Lee has been created, distroyed and recreated so many times. How does this guy keep going? Well, whatever it is in his vita drink I think I need it.

Now, I'm rambling, but I'm curious to see what happens with this whole thing--tonight? What is the demographic of the voting? Is there anyway to know? I guess it's obvious, but it would be interesting to break it down. Is it global?

May the best vocal cords hold out and hopefully these guys won't fall off the stage and break their necks. I know I sound like an old crockety dog, but I'm really not, that much.

PS. I'm still trying to figure out how to get into the chat if I have some time. Had to change my handle it wouldn't let me lof this.

If you mean the website, yup everything stays archived visible for ever and ever or as long as the world lasts. If you want some fun, check out some of our old discussions by searching for INXS - that will give you some of topics from last year. If you're thinking of sticking around, you should sign up as a member. Biggest bonus is not having to enter that code every time you post Oh and we're not a blog.

We'd love to have everyone stick around, as we'll provide some coverage of other nifty things to tide us over until January when American Idol starts. That Celebrity Duets show is nifty in a "car accident waiting to happen" sort of way.

Toby fans do seem to have come out in abdundance, I know they objected to us calling him our Aussie Ken Doll lol!Lukas fans have also seem to have come out in droves (and yes folks I checked IPs they're different people I swear. I didn't think it was possible!) Meanwhile Dilana fans have most flown the coop and Magni fans know he isn't gonna win anyhow and are just happy to go with the Ice Flow.

I too can't wait for tonight - or tomorrow. I just don't know who they will pick. I predict an early out for Magni - perhaps tonight already with Dilana getting the next boot leaving it between the Aussie Ken Doll and the Mumbly Skunk.

All four were great. I knew that Lucas would win. Magni would not take any kind of heat form the group, Toby would outshine Tommy; Dilana may go off and bad mouth the 3; and Lucas would be the most agreeable or shall I say diplomatic. Lucas is delightful, down to earth, entertaining, passionate, serious, just the right one period.
