The Boss Sounds Reggae Festival will take place at the University of Northumbria in England on November 18th and 19th. The show on Saturday features Horace Andy, Linton Kwesi Johnson, Janet Kay, Dennis Bovell’s Dub Band, Trojan Sound System + DJ Don Letts. On Sunday Jimmy Cliff, Prince Buster, Lee “Scratch Perry, Pama International, DJ Don Letts will perform.
Trojan Records will be releasing a CD Sampler, Trojan Selecta Vol. 4, which will feature some of the biggest names in reggae music.
The festival highlights the impact reggae has had on the punk and two tone movements as well as contemporary dance culture - from the music’s roots in ska with Prince Buster, through to the vintage reggae of Jimmy Cliff, the dub sounds of Lee Perry and Dennis Bovell, the dub poetry of LKJ and the sweet lovers rock of Janet Kay, to the man who shaped the sound of Massive Attack, Horace Andy.
Tickets for the Saturday show cost 20 pounds, while tickets for Sunday cost 25 pounds. Anyone wishing to attend both concerts can purchase a weekend ticket and save themselves 5 pounds.
There will be an after-show on Saturday as well, featuring DJ Don Letts and special guests. Tickets for that show are 7 pounds and are available at Trent House in Newcastle upon Tyne. The after-show begins at midnight and runs until 4 am.
