American Idol guys fail to present again

The guys of American Idol seem to have a theme - mediocrity. Yes they once again failed to deliver and will probably be shown up as losers overall when the girls perform tomorrow. We will apparently get treated to a performance by Carrie Underwood and HUGE NEWS on Thursday (my guess for the HUGE NEWS is details of the songwriting competition).
Tonight the contestants revealed things about themselves that we don't know. Apparently Blake Lewis loves improv comedy and Halloween and mixes the two up to come up with the character Jimmy Walker Blue. He sang "All Mixed Up" by 311. His performance doesn't really show off his vocals, but it does show off his beatboxing skills nicely. It was a good performance though, and he'll have no trouble making it to the top 12. Randy Jackson likes Blake because he's current. Randy didn't recognize the song, but loved it anyhow. Paula Abdul also didn't know the song but was interested in it. Simon Cowell didn't understand a word that Blake sang, but Blake does stand out of the crowd.
Ryan Seacrest talked to Sundance Head about his emotional breakdown last week. Apparently Simon thought it was artificial emotion. Sundance blamed it on Chris Richardson.
Next up was Sanjaya Malakar, with another blow to his "manhood" by revealing that he can hula dance. And no, we're not talking like the half-naked male Polynesian dancers, we're talking the grass skirt kind of hula. Sanjaya sang John Mayer's "Waiting for the World to Change". It was better, but still sleep inducing. Randy thought it as better, but that something special that the judges saw the first time is still missing. Paula doesn't completely agree with Randy though. She thinks that he is striving to do better. Simon says it wasn't as ghastly as last week. He did mention the hula thing though, as well as the Paula-like hair. Ryan said that anyone who knows anything can see the difference clearly - one has extensions.
Sundance Head revealed that he is actually thin in real life and just wears a fat suit so people don't recognize him. He sang Pearl Jam's "Jeremy". I thought it was a really good karaoke version. Randy thought it was pitchy in places, but loved that Sundance added his Southern Rock thing to Pearl Jam. Paula thought he kicked into the Sundance groove in the middle. Simon didn't like it as much as last week, thought he went from being good to being a generic bar singer. He also thought the choice was indulgent and he was shouting the whole time. Randy then said that's the whole Pearl Jam vibe. **see rant at end**
Travis Tritt was there, as he's working with Randy Jackson on a new album. Randy is producing it.
Chris Richardson played football and was a bit chunky. Then he got health conscious and lost 40 pounds. I thought his performance of Keith Urban's "Tonight I Wanna Cry" was pitchy at best. Randy loves him though, saying he put his on twist on the song. Paula loves the intonation of Chris' voice that makes it perfect for pop country. Simon thought it was good but he's not jumping out of the chair. He thought it was too cutesy, and that they haven't yet heard what Chris is capable of.
Jared Cotter played college basketball and was pretty good but quit to do music. He sang Stevie Wonder's "If You Really Love Me". It was a good choice, maybe enough for him to squeak by. Randy thought it was a good solid performance. Paula wants him to work on "coloring up" the way he sings. Simon clarifies that it just wasn't original. Simon thought it was like a lot of other performances and will get lost in the mix. He misses the wow factor. Ryan asked Paula if Jared belongs in the top 12, and she said yes so far.
Brandon Rogers has been playing classical piano since he was 9. He performed "I Just Want to Celebrate" by Rare Earth. It was a great performance with good vocals Randy loved the song and the choice. He thinks it gives him more of a rock edge. Paula thought it was pretty phenomenal. Simon just thinks Brandon hasn't represented himself well so far He is one of the better singers and should choose better songs. Simon is worried that Brandon might have problems this week.
Phil Stacey wasn't always bald. At one point he had long hair but then got into a group where all the guys had to have short hair. He didn't like his hair short so he shaved it. Phil tried to sing LeAnn Rimes "I Need You" but failed miserably. Randy says he has a big old voice that reminds him of Steve Perry. The low part was pitchy and weird though. Paula said his lower parts get chancey. The big notes are beautiful though. Simon didn't get it at all, the hat and the big eyes. Phil said he would change his eyes if Simon wanted. Simon thought that it was disappointing all over tonight. Ryan asked if Phil thought he made the right choice and Phil's reply was a simple "Obviously not."
Chris Sligh used to have short hair and a shaved head, like Phil, but better looking. He adds that this is his real hair and not a perm. He sang "We All Want To Be Loved" by DC Talk. I thought it was a wonderful performance, but I worry about his obscure song choices hurting him in the end like Nadia from season's past. Randy didn't think it was his favorite song choice, but it was the best vocal for the night Paula thinks he needs to keep rising, as this was just middle of the road. She wants him to stretch vocally. Sligh asked if it was a better choice than last week, but Paula thought last week was better. Simon thought the beginning was good, but the middle had a lot of shouting. It wasn't a great hooky song, but he did enough to get into the finals. Sligh liked the song's sentiment and apologized for not bringing it like he should have.
My top: (in order from best to worst)
Sligh
Brandon
Blake
My Bottom: (in order from horrific to not so horrific)
Phil
Sanjaya
Chris
My picks for the top 6 guys:
Sligh
Blake
Brandon
and three other filler guys who really don't matter to me one way or another.
Oh, in my haste to get the article up, it occured to me that I forgot my Pearl Jam rant! Sorry! Here is the promised rant (I was watching House and forgot!):
Okay, I LOVE Pearl Jam. No, I don't just LOVE Pearl Jam - I LOVE Pearl Jam. I have loved them from their very first beginnings, through their huge fame, through the anti-ticketmaster phase, and now in their "we do whatever the heck we want" phase. And I just have to say that I want to walk up to Randy Jackson tonight and just beat the crap out of him with a microphone stand. Eddie Vedder is not a screamer. Phil Anselmo - sure. Chris Daughtry, you betcha! Eddie Vedder has a powerful voice that he uses as the emotion of the song/performance dictates. He screams at times. He whispers at times. His voice is full of emotion and power. Jeremy was NEVER about screaming, it was about the raw emotion of the song. Simon was right that Sundance was shouting a lot. Sundance lacks the emotional depth needed for that song. But Pearl Jam's "whole vibe" wasn't about screaming - that's a different genre called metal that you're thinking of thank you very much. And while I love Phil Anselmo and think he is also capable of some powerful emotions and excellent use of his vocal tool, he is much more of a screamer than Eddie Vedder ever could be.

Tonight was the first night I actually got to watch the guys. I don't think I have been missing too much all along. I tended to agree with Simon most of the night. I was "underwowed". Just a few rambling thoughts:
There must be something wrong with me, but I don't get Blake. Everybody really likes him and I'm like "Eh." I think he is a phenomenal beatboxer, but I'm not all over the singing. I think there several guys with nicer singing voices.
Sundance is growing on me. I'm not sure if it's in a good way or like a fungus, but he is growing on me and I hope he'll be around another week so I can decide.
I really like Jarred's voice. I think he has a very smooth sound. I don't know if he stands out enough to stay much longer.
Chris R. just gets on my nerves and I don't know why. Maybe it's the whole JT comparison, but it leaves me with a bitter taste each time he sings.
Phil, with the hat and all, reminded me a whole lot of Lemur boy tonight.
Again, Sanjaya will make it to the top 12. I didn't think it was too bad tonight. I just wish I could get my hair to do what his did tonight. I like the "Leif Garret from the 70's" look much better. (Boy did I just show my age or what!) He screamed female tonight!
Chris Sligh is by far my fave guy. I like his voice, even though he does keep picking obscure songs. Good analogy to Nadia Curlio.
Okay did I miss your rant at the end of your review. I am waiting with baited breath 'cause you usually speak my mind!

I have to admit that both Brandon & C. Sligh were the best I've heard them this year. Last week I could have cared less if either of them went home, but Brandon redeemed himself w/ that song.
I was glad Chris Richardson gave us a break from his white-boy dancin'.
Tonight, Sanjaya officially transistioned from "a little weird" to "down right creepy". That little she-male hula dance might have cost him the teeny-bopper vote.

What was with the Leann Rimes song?
I vote for this as the worst song choice of the century. It probably ties with Copa Cabana from last year.

i would still be onered to be on the show and to meat simon, pola, and randie.
Define onered, and what meat would you give to Simon, Pola(r?), and Randie? I think Simon would be a salmon kind of guy, but only very fresh salmon, I think the Brits are spoiled with fresh fish. As for Pola(r?), she probably shuns meat, as it's probably too cute for her to bear to eat. Randie, definite a steak man, probably med. rare. Freddie guest:

Two thumbs up for the huge laugh the "down right creepy" gave me. I also think he went from "confused sexuality" to "heterosexually-challenged." shellybean said:

Blake's first performance on the Top 24 definitely showed he can sing. Unfortunately he listened to the judges who missed his beatboxing. When they finally get sick of it and call him on it, expect a nice long rant from me about the judges asking for one thing, getting it, then not liking it.
As for Chris, I DEFINITELY agree with you. I don't mention much about him or rank him in my top or bottom simply because I can't stand him. I hate the way he looks, the way his face moves when he sings, the bobble-headed white boy rapper dance moves, I hate his lack of hair, his clothes, his voice. I simply detest everything about him. And I have no clue why. Telling people not to hate me for it in the future won't work, so I just keep my big mouth shut about the issue in the articles. Dusty says he looks like the love child of Justin Timberlake and Kevin Federline.

okay....
SO the guys kinda sucked this week ( nothing new really). ay ya yaei !!! Poor Sanjaya , if that guy starts singing decently , then he starts dancing weirdly. I hope he can make it to the top 12, but yeah people will kinda wonder now whether he's uh DIFFERENT than others ( using she-male and all is kinda to strong a word ).
WEll atleast finally we're starting to see the cracks of Baldy's ( Phil ) voice !!! Everyone thought he was a great singer ( atleast in my family ) but whoa were they wrong.
I worry about Blake. It's his beat boxing that helps him survive every week. But there will come a week where he won't be able to beatbox and then it will be his voice that the judges will judge. He's not a bad singer , but he sounds kinda weak. He is definetetly in the top 12 and he'll probably last 5 weeks more , but that's about it.
Now about Richarson........ I really DO NOT LIKE HIM. For me he just sounds very weak. And whoever compared him to Justin Timberlake was only thinking of ATMOST his looks. He's surviving because for some reason , Randy likes him a lot. I think Simon is the best judge for this guy. He does not stand out of the crowd and he really is PITCHY.
Now onto the contestant that again is sparking snide remarks , our very own SANJAYA MALAKAR ( can u picture trumpets when u just read that ). He tries real hard, but yes I fear that his little hula hola that he stirred will gurantee that none of you guys ( fredereek if ure reading this i'm sure u'll agree u ain't gonna vote for this guy are u ). He might make it to the top 12. Actually if u think of it the dance was rather cute ( in an odd way)
Lets hope for the best and expect the worst for him ( that is if u like him)
SLigh is good but song choices are getting wierd. Again i'm worried he'll be the next Nadia Turner, and I really liked Nadia. But ther's no need to worry about this guy. He is in the top 12.
The rest are all the maybe's of the top 12. I ain't gonna write on them 'cause this reply already is to long ( im sure u'll agree ). Let's hope u all don't sleep while reading it .
Nice replys by all so far ( though if ur a Sanjaya fan , u'd probably be thinking otherwise ).

One word - Underwhelmed. Seriously underwhelmed.
Let's take four of these guys and combine them with the eight girls (even Antonella) and call them the top twelve. At this point, I foresee one guy and five girls as the top six.
Blake - adequate, can make the top twelve. Was anyone else astonished that Randy, Paula, and Simon had not heard the 311 song? Dallas has a weird radio market, but you can't GET AWAY from that song here! Even ~I~ know all of the words because I've heard it so much!
Sanjaya - I didn't dislike him as badly this week as I have previously. I thought he did a decent job with this song. Yes, it was sleep inducing, but then again, so is the original.
Sundance - I thought he sucked. I didn't like him doing Pearl Jam at all.
Chris - I'm glad I'm not the only one who just doesn't like this guy. I was listening to him sing thinking "I don't like his voice, I don't like his attitude, I don't like his looks..."
Jared - okay, nuthin-special middle-of-the-pack-sorta voice. Has anyone else noticed that he looks like the actor who was one of the final detectives on "NYPD Blue" and is now on "Shark" as the district attorney's investigator? I can't think of the guy's name and I'm too tired to go Google it...
Brandon - I loved his song choice. He had a few pitch problems, but overall its been his best performance and he deserves to be in the top twelve. On the other hand, this guy has no charisma, presence, "IT" factor, whatever you want to call it. I kept thinking that he just looks and acts like a background singer - good voice (not stellar) but very little command of the stage.
Phil - YEECK! Send him back to the Navy! I keep waiting for the singer who strongly finished the first week's song - but it ain't happened.
Sligh - Best of the night, but that ain't saying much. I liked the song. But where-o-where has our comedian gone? Apologizing for not "bringing" the song? We haven't seen his barbed-humor since he made the Il Diva and Teletubbies comment that he apologized for the next night...sadly, he's been silenced by "the system". C'mon, Sligh, your audience needs your Justin Guarini side to confidently step up and tell the judges to go jump in a highly amusing manner!

The boys have let us down yet again. The girls will almost certainly show us a different stratosphere of singing than the guys, but I'm already getting tired of predictable song choices....so let's play...
What do we want to hear them sing?!?
I want to hear powerhouse ROCK out of one of the four divas - LaKisha, Melinda, Serena, or Stephanie. Something uptempo from Heart (like "Barracuda"), anything from Pat Benatar, most anything from Annie Lennox, Cher (we've never heard a Cher song on this show, I wonder if they have the rights?), even anything from Queen! (which is what got me thinking about this topic...I was listening to Queen and thinking about how dismal the show with Queen was last year but how several of these girls could match Freddie's range...).
Please get these girls out of the Whitney/Celine/Mariah/Motown soundbooks. We KNOW they can sing, now give us variety! But I'd bet that we'll see at least two or three from this same genera tommorrow night.
Gina - either Garbage, No Doubt/Gwen Stefani, or even Madonna. Don't try to belt it with the divas, do your own thing!
Jordin - something current...popular...uptempo...and not make her too emotional...
Antonella - I like Will's idea...put her in a low-cut dress and have her sing "I touch myself"...that ought to please her fans....
Haley - don't care. I figure she's gone after tommorrow night.
I'll think about the guys later.

"But there will come a week where he won't be able to beatbox and then it will be his voice that the judges will judge. "
He's already done that. His first week of the semifinals, he didn't beatbox. He did a great job.
I don't know if people realize that this is the last chance any of these guys have to sing what they want to sing. The theme nights start next week. I doubt Blake will be beatboxing through those. And of course, people will complaint if he doesn't beatbox just as they do when he does.
He's a good singer, and a nice guy. Nice butt too.

Sorry I did not post last week. My wife and I had our child and I was too busy staring at our baby (Alexander "Xander" Ben) versus paying attention to the dreck the boys were laying down. The boys were better last week, but totally reverted back to their horrible selves this week. I honestly did not like anyone this week.
Blake - Sang well, but as I mentioned before, Blake is an enigma. He is an imitator. He is a great imitator, but he does not know who he is. This is going to bite him in the butt sooner or later. And ska died out ten years ago. What kind of crack were Randy and Paula smoking saying that sounded fresh?
Sanjiya - He looked like Iggy Pop with a dark tan last night. He tried to sing this week, but looked nervous still. Very uncomfortable to watch him.
Sundance - "Jeremy spoke." Sundance warbled. He must have formed a ton of spit bubbles from that garbled mess.
Chris - Sign me up on the boat full of people who dislike him. He bugs.
Jared - He started singing and reminded me of Elliot Yamin's far superior version last year. Someone should have given Elliot a record contract after Jared's weak performance.
Brandon - Like Simon, I am waiting for something great. I will give him credit for doing something different and fresh instead of turning into a one-trick pony like Jared.
Phil - Very disappointing. I do not mind it if guys sing songs originally sung by women, but that was the wrong song choice.
Sligh - Mr. Christian Rock is going to get the boot if he doesn't start singing songs we all know. And his lisp is starting to bug me.
At this point, I could care less which guys make it through. They are all inferior to the remaining ladies minus Skankonella.

It looks like I am the only one so far who was impressed by Blake. I didn't recognize the song, but I liked it. Perhaps it was seeing him perform, rather than just hearing him sing that impressed me.
What another boring show! I was actually surfing through the cable channels for something to watch. I have never done that in the six years I have been a fan of AI.
Brandon has finally shown me a glimpse of his talent, but I wonder if it too little too late.
I agree with Curlio about Chris S's song selection: much too obscure. Nadia was one of my favorites two years ago, but she chose the wrong songs. She was a much better singer than Vonzell, who ended up third, but Vonzell chose songs that suited her style of singing and her voice, much like what I have seen of Sabrina so far.
I worry about Sanjaya; I was giving him the benefit of the doubt so far, but he seems to have a serious sexual identity problem. By the way, his singing sucks too; no concept of delivery and interpretation whatsoever.
Blake, Chris S and Brandon to me were the best of the lot. All of the others are up for grabs. The real show is on again tonight. I also agree with those who want to see a little more diversity in song choices.

What a mess! It's a shame we are going to lose four or five talented girls because of the stupid AI rules. We already have enough quota systems in this society. All I want to see is the best singers, regardless of their sex. As far as I'm concerned, send all the male singers home. What an untalented bunch. I refuse to believe that there are idiots in this world who would buy any of their records. End this farce by sending all the boys packing and keeping the top six girls. No Antonella please! We would now have a valid singing competition.

First of all, Congratulations to Ben & Mrs Ben! May Alexander live up to his name and conquer whatever he desires in life!
Right…
I agree with the notion that the rule of 6 guys & 6 gals sucks! The problem is not so much that the guys are bad; the problem is that the gals are that good! So frankly I really don’t care who amongst the guys make it – I am totally disappointed by all!
Blake – Was I the only one who thought his comic relief alter-ego was anything but funny? Oh well, this is a singing competition! I am sorry, I am not a fan, never was, never will be. Unless of course, he does something so amazing that he would catch me completely off guard! I don’t believe in first impressions – so I can like him in the future. But based on his last performance, I thought he was more of a poser!
Verdict – Will be safe! He is placed at 3 on the other evil site!
Sanjaya – Sanjaya, Sanjaya – What did they do to your hair? What did you do to your hair? I am ok with learning Hula – if you have to, but why in God’s name do you share that with the world, when the world is already questioning your sexuality? His hair and his Hula have transformed him from being gay to being a transsexual waiting for a sex change!
But if one thinks that would deter his fan base, think again! I just talked to a friend of mine, whose daughter is like 12 and my friend said that apparently it did not matter to her as she was continuous calling in to keep him safe.
I joked with my friend that Sanjaya should have chosen, “Man, I Feel Like A Woman” and when he told his daughter about my joke, she responded that she would have loved it, as her celebrity crush (male) sings that very song at karaoke! Guess who that guy is – I actually double checked – it’s Zac Efron! I kid you not! Google it!
So I am thinking the young ones have no such hang-ups that we have!? Before the 24 started performing, some had said that Sanjaya should leave before the show breaks his spirit and sadly, if he continues, he will be a broken boy! He is not cut out for this!
Verdict – Chances are he might survive and though he was not bad, he should leave now, Ben is right – it is too uncomfortable to see him! On the evil site he started with position 8 and progressed to position 4!
Sundance – Pardon my French but what the * was that? I am with you Curlio, I too LOVE Pearl Jam and Jeremy is my all time favourite songs! He murdered the song and every time he messed up, I was shouting expletives at the screen and I seldom swear, so y’all can imagine!
Verdict – Safe without trying! I hate that! However, he took a considerable dip on other evil site as compared to last two weeks! He is placed at 7!
Justin Federline – Meh!
Verdict – He is very popular apparently! He is placed at 1! He has to be safe! Sorry haters – will have to bear him for some more time!
Jared – Hey, Hey, Hey, Goodbye! Well, that’s what I think, who knows! It was forgettable!
Verdict – Placement at 6!
Brandon – I liked his performance. I definitely see a potential and as Simon said I too am nervous for him. Hope he makes it though – he has a good voice, only thing is he has no sense of direction as far as songs go.
Verdict – I hope he survives, as his placement is at 5!
Phil – OH MY GOD! What was that? It sounded like a drag queen trying to sound melodious! Phil honey, don’t be like that awful Toni Braxton of last year, trying to sound low! That has to be the worst performance – ever! I did not know if I should laugh or cry! Seriously! LeAnn Rimes?
Verdict – He is placed at 8 that is last, but I wouldn’t read too much into it as Gina was placed last week and she survived!
Sligh – Ok, I will say it! Sligh is a clever bloke, because he has chosen really obscure songs! I will confess, I am not too familiar with his choices and I wonder how many are in the real world! In such a scenario, whatever he sings would sound nice, if you have no references. For now that’s ok, but as I said I wonder how will he fare with known songs – waiting for that! To say I didn’t like his performance is an understatement!
Verdict – Placed at 2 after a long time at Number 1 – it is safe to assume he will survive!
Ok, one thing I would like to make crystal clear – the reference from the other evil site is in no way representative of the authenticity of their data, because it is not always accurate. However, I thought it would be interesting to note the similarity of their data with the data on this site’s poll. And guess what – they sort of match!
The top three (in no particular order) are
Sligh
Blake
J-Fed
Coming at 4 is Brandon
Followed by Sundance
And
There is a tie between Sanjaya and Jared – so anyone of them can leave!
Phil unfortunately is definitely out based on both data!
Hey, a question – if my memory serves me right – didn’t 6 guys / 6 gals start with Season 4? I mean didn’t Season 3 have more gals than boys?
I hope the gals do great! I wish great luck to Sabrina and Stephanie, because one slip and they are out!
So that’s that!
P.S. Am I the only one tired of Sprinkles’ gay banter with Simon? Sprinkles, we get it, you are trying to convince us that you are not, but give it a rest! Go kiss Teri, because MJ won’t be kissing any Presley anytime soon and the kiss with Teri was as frightful as MJ’s was! So there!

Congrats to our Ben! Ben, Ben, we know where you Been!!!
Last nights show was not an attention grabber. I hope tonite that I don't have to used my inner handcuffs to follow the show. I had to playback the performances to be sure of what I sorta witnessed. Not really good. I liked Brandon, Curley, and Jared and the others, yawn yawn yawn.........
I like Jared's performances and I don't think just anyone can sing the old standards that well. I hope he gets a chance to try some diverse stuff, if he is an athelete and and good singer we know he has the self discipline to stay the coarse in his career.
This is a girls year for shure, I cannot imagine any of these guys beating any of the remaining girls except Antonella. I have a feeling she is being a bit villianized in the media. She is not a good singer, but the rest is pure speculation. The saucy pics are nothing that many of our respected artist haven't done including Mariah and Nichole Kidman and so on. The saucy pic doomed her from progressing on this show even if she were a great singer, they would be pulled out of a hat on down the road to seal her doom. Now at most, she gets a spread in Playboy and pays for her college tuition and become a famous architech with great legs. LOL Will
Sprout what is the Danish girls name that use to post here?
And, Shenova, though your words may say, no, no, your context says, yes, yes. (with apologies to the bard)!!

Taking into account the statistical error in any poll, there are five of the guys in danger of being bumped out tomorrow - Phil (firmly on bottom), Jared and Sanjaya tied at 2pct, Sundance a shade higher at 3pct and Brandon with only 5pct still in trouble statistically speaking. I am VERY hopeful for a Sanjaya voteoff tomorrow, as his ranking on our poll has dropped significantly.
And Sprout your memory has not failed you. Season three had 8 girls and 4 guys. They changed to a guys vs. girls format for Season 4. This year's injustice may see a change back to a former "every person for themselves" format.

Will said:Sprout what is the Danish girls name that use to post here? Uttam! I don't think she is an AI fan. At least that's the impression I got! Can you imagine Toadie and her together on the board?! It would be so awesome! Great comic timing with tangent thoughts thrown in! Love it!
