American Idol picked a Top 10 tonight, naming the elite ones who will be gracing the stage of the Idols Live tour and be blessed with fame and fortune. While it wasn't the worst contestant who left the show, it wasn't one of the better ones so honestly all is still relatively good in the world.
After the standard recap of last night, Ryan Seacrest introduced Peter Noone, who came out and performed "There's a Kind of Hush." It was way better than Diana Ross last week. He's just such a happy guy, and it shows when he performs. Simon Cowell didn't look too happy though Paula Abdul enjoyed it, sitting there swaying to the music.
This week's Ford commercial featured the contestants singing "Another Saturday Night" at the laundramat. It was funny and cute and not nearly as stupid as the commercials last year. When we came back from the commercial, Brad Garrett was sitting with the idols. Ryan told him he was the first person to be sent home.
Then we were on to the actual bottom three. Phil Stacey, Melinda Doolittle, and Blake Lewis were told to stand up. Then they sat down as they were all not in the bottom three. Next up were Chris Sligh, Lakisha Jones, and Jordin Sparks who were also not in the bottom three. That left five idols remaining. Sanjaya Malakar, Haley Scarnato, and Gina Glocksen were all told they were not in the bottom three. This left me confused as that left only Chris Richardson and Stephanie Edwards, who most definately were not three people. Ryan told them they were the bottom two this week.
We were treated to some boring talk featuring the AI Challenge and the Idol Gives Back. I didn't pay attention. Lulu then came out (late I think) to sing "To Sir With Love." She still has a darn good voice.
Finally we were down to the elimination. Chris Richardson and Stephanie Edwards were left in the bottom. As much as we all wanted to be rid of Chris, he'll be staying. Stephanie would be going home. Honestly I'm not surprised, as I had her as the outside chance for the bottom three in place of Sanjaya. Chris being in the bottom amazed me though, I thought he had more girly fans than that. I suppose both evil sites will claim a victory tonight - as #2 had the bottom three (though with 6 in the bottom three that's not hard) and #1 kept you know who out of the bottom two (maybe he was in the bottom three, we don't know). As for Sanjaya staying out of the bottom, as I said I still give all credit to Sanjaya for cutting loose and just going for it. Stephanie was bound to be an early casualty, as she was the lesser of the divas.
What a Crock of Crap. WTH is America think??? I know that i would NEVER buy one of Sanjaya's CD's EVER and if anyone would it would be the 12 to 15yr old girls in america or some gay guys. darn if people actually think he can sing then "YOU ARE DEAF". I'll start watching again after that no account, head in a barrel, poor excuse of a singer is ELIMINATED.
Sanjaya is safe for another Week??? Another week of torcher and and good laugh...
This is now becoming a bad joke gone wild..
I still like Jordan and Melinda to win... but with Sanjaya still in there is like having Pee Wee Herman in the finals of a Sumo Tournement..
They should change the name from American Idol to
American Comedy Factory.
Hi name is shajayra i love you Sanjaya i feel that you are my bf you are not but i love you thats you a love you Sanjaya i lllooovvveee you oh can you sing a song for me Sanjaya plz? um see you later in the show!i am ten years old um see you later aaaaaa Im so happy i am doing this um bye again?
Americans are sick! They chose the wrong person to go home. Stephanie Edward is one of the BEST diva for this season. Sanjaya should be the one to go home. Stephanie has been consistently superb for the past few weeks. Although yesterday's performance was not her best, at least she is much better than some mediocre contestants. Americans you all are truly STUPID! Wake up, this is a talent contest, not a beauty no brainer contest!
No surprises tonight. I was quite happy to see Chris R. in the bottom two.
I really enjoyed both Peter and Lulu. Peter is clearly having a good time and not taking anything too seriously (then again, would you expect anyone who was with a group called "Herman's Hermits" to take anything seriously?). He just seems like a really nice guy.
Lulu is still one heck of a performer. I hope she's invited to be a mentor again. Does anyone else think she looks like an older version of Olivia Newton-John? (but sounds a LOT better now than ONJ did in her prime)
ok. message to all the retards who refuse to watch the show, eat, drink, breathe or whatever until sanjaya is voted of the show: YOU'RE ALL COMPLETE IDIOTS. geez if you hate the guy so much why are you letting him control your life?? if you don't like him, then fine he's not forcing you to and neither are the show's producers. It is audience vote. you can't tell someone who they can and can't vote for. and do you losers realize that the more you bash sanjaya the more aggravated his fans will become and keep voting to make him stay? show a little intelligence is all i can say.
The underground movement to keep Sanjaya on the show, plus the people who actually like him should keep the obvious worst singer going for a couple more rounds.
That was a wonderfully balanced assessment, Curlio. Even I was sure Sanjaya would be safe this week as he really just got up there and had fun. And yeah, Stephanie was starting to sound just a wee bit sorta well to put it kindly ....constipated. Haley is another one who saved her skin by grabbing the opportunity this theme presented to cut loose and have fun. And i find Chris sorta weird too...but since a guy went out last week i was sure this week its going to be a girl.
really and truly what has american idol come to,real talented people being eliminated while people like sanjaya being voted to stay in by the millions of indians not base on talent but race.i mean this guy could not sing even if his life depended on it.AND EVERYBODY KNOWS THAT IS THE truth just no one wants to say it.this is not being racist putting talent were it is suppose to be.not a bad kid just not fit for the show at this stage
peace
It looks like the girl (otherwise known as "J") who's going on a hunger strike until Sanjaya gets off "American Idol" is going to be losing some more weight...
She has a MySpace account with the tag "starvationforsanjaya".
I really DO NOT understand why people have this " Hate Sanjaya " thingy.
There was a GUEST who really spoke sense .......
PEOPLE , DON'T LET THIS SANJAYA THINGY BECOME SOMETHING THAT IS NOT.
TRUE HE'S NOT THE BEST ( AND I BEING A FAN AM WHOLEHEARTEDLY AGREEING ), BUT THIS COMPETITION IS NOT JUST ABOUT BEING A GREAT SINGER ; ITS ABOUT BEING AN IDOL FOR THE GENERAL AMERICAN POPULATION , WHICH INCLUDES BEING...
1) a good singer
2) a very likable person
3) and a genuine, sweet, caring human being
Honestly what has Sanjaya done to any of u guys/gals is beyond me .......
AN ODE TO THE WISE .....
Geeze Louise, give it a rest,
Sanjaya ain't the worst and he ain't the best,
But honestly tell me what he did to u ,
that he deserves to get remarks like....
U REMIND ME OF POOH !!!!!!
(my sincere appologies to all those who actually know how to write poems..... i'm kinda a beginner )
Stephanie was voted out!
"Why?" 'Cause she just had not clout !!!
So lets get on with our lives
Without the " I hate Sanjaya Jives" !!!!
Oh Oh and one more thing ....... People in India cannot vote for Sanjaya . And its not like each and every indian is DYING to vote for Sanjaya.
And more so ; only 1/10th ( or even less ) of the population knows that a competition like AMERICAN IDOL exists. For Indians , the BIG comp. is INDIAN IDOL !!! So GUEST before TULLYB, I regret to inform u that its the american poplulation thats voting for him ( and that will include both the indian americans as well as the other americans).
Oh, please, I am so sick of people saying Sanjaya continues to remain in the competition because of the millions of Indians voting for him.
Give me a break! The ENTIRE Asian American population is only 5%! The Indian population is obviously a lot less than that. Even that 5% is outnumbered by whites, blacks, and Hispanics.
Get mad all you want at who's keeping him in, but it's people of all races. As I said before, he's got a pleasant voice and he never sings off key, unlike contestants who're more popular.
And last night, he did what he should've done- he sang an aggressive, uptempo song and showed another side of himself vs. the namby pamby midtempos he's favored in the past.
Everyone's pushed to oversing in this competition. That's why non-R&B singers like Haley always seem to be on the edge of being voted off. If you have a pleasant voice, you don't have to oversing, and Sanjaya's got a very sunny one, kinda like Stevie Wonder at times.
I am truly not surprised that Sanjiya is in the top 10, half the people in american are voting for him because his hair.
My top 2-- My bottom 2--
Blake Haley
Jordin Chris R.

Sanjaya has many people rooting for him just because he's endearing. They want him to succeed based on sheer personality. I think even his fans admit that he's not the best singer on the show - so it's not that no one wants to say anything, it's that they are using more than just the singing skills to vote for him.
Okay, there really is no need to play the race card here. Indians are not the only ones voting for him. If that were the case, he would have been voted out a LONG time ago. So naturally, I think your comment directed at just the Indian population is misinformed. As I said, Sanjaya has more appeal to him than just his race.
I must say that the AI crowd is a fickle, "What have you done for me lately" bunch. Two weeks ago, everyone and their Mom predicted that the guys would get picked off one-by-one, with the exception of Blake and Sligh. Now, two weeks in, when the third or fourth best singer gets the boot, no one is shocked? Yes, Stephanie's personality did not shine the past two weeks, but she still sang better than the majority of the other contestants. Remember, at the end of the day, this is a singing contest. When I go to Target to buy the new Elliott Yamin CD, I am not remembering that he had or did not have a great personality, or the fact that he is goofy looking, or whether he danced well when he sang "Moody's Mood for Love". I know that he is a great singer. If he sang a lackluster version of a song in the studio, the producer would tell him to add more life into it and he would.
So, Stephanie gets the boot. Another quality singer leaves us early. That means, we have at least two non-worthy folks to screech it up on the annual American Idol CD. Again, who would you rather want to listen to while you are driving into work? Brandon or Chris R? Stephanie or Sanjaya? The better voices would have made the CD much better in my opinion. Listen to the Season Three CD again if you need a reminder of what an AI CD with a majority of hack singers sounds like. As for the concert, count me out. I am not going to pay $45+ to see three great singers and make myself drink $7 beers to tolerate the rest of the AI karaoke players.
So I haven't seen the results episode, but this elimination makes sense to me. After Sanjaya let down his hair during his performance, he was for certain going to stay on, there was really no doubt about that .
Unfortunately, Sanjaya has the case of "Sandeeps" (II winner), where people actually thought he was a decent singer during audition and theater rounds but now think he sucks because he's not performing at full capacity and the other contestants are out-singing him. Fair weather fans? Maybe. But then again, maybe not.
