Another American Idol guy bites the dust

American Idol lost another contestant tonight. This time it was another guy, in a move that was not the least bit surprising, at least not to our regulars.
When Ryan Seacrest came out to do his standard introductions and recap of last night, he wore a wig with the hair done like Sanjaya Malakar's last night. The 'do looked better on Sanjaya quite frankly. After the break, we got the new Ford Commercial. It featured a wild west theme, with Chris Richardson being in a Wanted poster. They sang "I Fought The Law" while chasing Chris.
Next we were treated to the first stage of the eliminations. Blake Lewis and LaKisha Jones were safe. Phil Stacey was in the bottom three. Melinda Doolittle, Chris Richardson, and Sanjaya Malakar were all safe. Haley Scarnato was in the bottom three. Jordin Sparks was safe. That left Chris Sligh and Gina Glocksen to wonder which one of them was also in the bottom. Ryan then says that one of them will join "Phil and Stacey" in the bottom (instead of Phil and Haley - special thanks to my niece Megan for catching that one). Ryan acknowledged his mistake when the show came back from break.
After some AI Challenge and Idol Gives Back nonsense, Gwen Stefani and Akon performed "The Sweet Escape." It was no doubt (pun intended) the best guest performance so far. And WOAH the legs on Gwen. darn, she looks good. Ryan talked to her about her upcoming tour, which apparently starts on April 21st. Yes, Akon will be on tour with her.
Finally we were down to the full elimination. Gina was safe, with Chris Sligh in the bottom three. That made the bottom three Haley, Phil, and Sligh. Ryan quickly sent Phil back to the safe zone, then asked the judges who was going home. Randy Jackson said it was a tough call. Paula Abdul said it as never a fun time. Simon Cowell quite frankly said it was "Bye Bye Curley." Ryan then told Haley she was safe, leaving Sligh to go home. As Sligh was singing he told Phil he owes him 50 bucks (we guess that he bet Phil he would be going home).
Honestly I'm a little sad to see Sligh leave us, but not overly surprised. Sligh just never really lived up to his potential, losing the fans he had earned from his funny attitude at the audition.
Next week is the music of Tony Bennett, which gives us a whole week to come up with the "who is singing what" list!

Boy, I would like to know which member voted Sanjaya as the next American Idol! That must be a joke!
Anyway, I am not sad Sligh went home. He was starting to annoy me with his lisp and his off-the-beat singing. I forgot how attractive his wife was, which shows that any loser can score a good looking wife. Or she is one of the few who actually thinks that a sense of humor is a guy's best feature! See ya Sligh, I hope the guy exodus continues and the other Chris or Sanjee goes home next week.

I am totally new to blogging, but after hearing that Sanjaya made it through again, I decided to do some online research to see if I was crazy. What is wrong with people???
The fact that Sanjaya is even on that stage to begin with is because the judges put him there. I cannot comprehend that he "was good enough" to get to the top 12. We can thank Randy, Paula and Simon for that one.
But Sanjaya's fate is in America's hands. He is a complete joke. The really sad thing is, is that decent singers are getting voted off for Sanjaya's publicity stunts. So everyone voting for him as a joke to skew the results, please stop!!! AI is an awesome show and keeping that 45 pound boy on the show is so painful. He can't sing, he can't dance and when he turns sideways, he disappears. If you don't like the show, then don't watch it and stop voting!!!!!! You are messing up a really good thing.
I am also curious to see if Simon sticks to his comment of "If Sanjaya wins, I will quit the show" (paraphrased) Hopefully, it does not come to that, but for those of you who are playing this stupid game.....find something else to do and leave AI alone!!!!!

First of all, he's not a foreigner. He was born and raised in America. Second of all, Americans are the ones that are voting for him. And thirdly, this is nothing like outsourcing.

FOREIGNERS?????? What does it take for u guys to accept that Sanjaya is AMERICAN? He was born and brought up in America. His mom is American. Its only his father that has migrated to America from India. I guess even in this day some colors still are not the right color eh?

Once again, no surprise.
Earlier this week, I would have bet my paycheck that Sligh would be going home this round. I'm not just spouting smoke, I told my husband that I would guarantee Sligh in the bottom three...then when I heard him on the recap, I was sure that he was going home.
Did anyone else see all of the newspaper articles "reporting" how Sligh's "Christian" and college friends were disappointed with his AI song choices? After reading two or three of these articles, I turned into a conspiracy theorist. I suspect that the AI publicity "spin machine" decided that Sligh had made the tour but now it was time to unload him.
To be honest, I was rather surprised that the AI producers didn't do this two weeks ago and unload Sligh rather than Brandon. I'm not sure why they would think that Sligh is more marketable and needed to be on the tour.
My fearless prediction - next week, Haley will be gone. Except for Sabrina, this year has been totally predictable.

HUH?!? How does an American-born individual take away a position from another American-born individual?
Please notice that the Curlio.com WebMaster and site owner was not born in the United States and respectfully adjust your comments...

My question is at what point does anyone "become American"? All of have relatives from other countries, its just that some relatives have immigrated to the US more recently than others...
If anyone cares, both of my grandfathers were from Germany and yes, I have the brash personality and temper to prove it! (not to mention the brown hair and eyes).

Oooh, lots of hate in this thread. Let me add some more. I haven't seen this show since the auditions, and quite frankly I can see that I haven't missed much. The guys, as usual, are falling way behind the girls and appear to be on the show merely for the illusion of equal opportunity.
As far as the Indian fellow goes.. Well, every season has a no-talent *clown who is on the show simply because he has a cute gimmick and a highly vocal minority of fans who like to jam the phone lines with repeat votes. Last year it was the dorky kid with the glasses who couldn't hold a tune to save his life, but made it week after week because of his cartoony underdog persona. This new guy is no different.
As far as Simon's comments go, I would love to see him put his money where his mouth is. But for him to make such a bold statement gives me the feeling that he either knows something about the outcome of the season or he's completely full of manure, because there's no way he's going to kill a multi-million dollar franchise just because he doesn't like one of the contestants.
Incase he hasn't figured it out yet, the show isn't about talent. It's about finding the latest "brand" to sell. That's what Sony BMG is all about. Selling image.

It doesn't take nationality nor personality nor hair for some of the no-talent individuals to advance in this competition...heck, Scott Savol made it to the Top Six with none of the above! Anything can become a catch for the public...

So, let me get this straight - There are some people out there that actually took this seriously? Never mind the fact that Sajaya is, by all rights, an American – being on a talent contest isn’t even a job, at all.
Thus, instead of poking fun at the intolerant POV of the stereotypical American, some of you chose to take offense - NOT at the implication that Americans are xenophobes; but at the suggestion that Sanjaya's ascension on AI is equivalent to out sourcing?!?!?
Cheese and Rice… how did you get so sensitive?! Do yourselves a favor, spare your tender sensibilities and stay away from Lou Dobbs.
On top of all this, my tiny affront leaves all the juiciest material unsaid.
I didn’t even *try* to make light of Sanjaya’s sexual orientation (which would have been easy since I think the only person Sanjaya hasn’t Come-Out to is that sobbing tween-ager with the metallic mouth and unfortunate looks); nor did I point out how said orientation must certainly bring shame upon his family to the point of justifying an Honor-Killing.
Truth is: Sanjaya is unbearable on so many levels, completely apart from his heritage, ethnicity, or sexual affectation, that one is not required to point them out.

I was not the individual who started the "foreigners taking jobs from Americans" nonsense...if you think I'm harsh, wait until our international community of regulars log in tommorrow!
Oh wait, you've explained you're joking! That's different. We've gotten quite a few jerks around here in the past couple of weeks and you certainly were beginning to resemble them!

I second that! Since you mention it, can anyone explain to me how the Fantasia's, Melinda-Awe-Shucks-Little-Ol'-Me Doolittle's, and Lakisha's of the world consistently get high marks on AI?
At least the individuals of which you speak are roundly ridiculed for their abyssal performances by critical authorities. Lakisha, on the other hand, sings the same songs - the same way - in the same self-indulgent style as any public school music teacher or Deep-South Baptist-Fried Choir Leader would – alone – in the merciful privacy of her own shower.
Yes - I hate the sound... it's just a preference. And as such, I recognize that my distain for the Nel-Carter-Reincarnate Legatees could be utterly off-base. I am no music connoisseur, after all.
Still, "Gimme a Break" here, it's NOT my imagination that they sound eerily similar to one another. And, it's NOT my imagination that, every year, American's toss out great female vocalists (of every color and persuasion that aren't limited to just mo-town songs and black spirituals). It's also not my imagination that Simon bends over backward to praise these train wrecks. It's like ever since that fat girl shamed him last season (about needing a bigger stage), he feels obligated to adore every Pointer-Sister-esque contestant that shows up! (Ironically, the morbidly obese woman I'm referring to happened to be really good, compared to Fantasia.)
Furthermore, could it be coincidence that the candidates are always horribly unattractive? I don't think so - it's like AI audiences feel guilty about *buying* CD's by hott chicks who can't sing; so they *vote* for ugly chicks who can't sing.
Rubbish! Go to church on Sunday if you want to see a single-mom who eats enough for dad too... or a disingenuous back-up singer who stayed home the day God was passing out necks.
(Yes. My evil spirits are successfully excised - Thank you)

Because people like me love it and miss pre-cocaine Whitney!!!
The divas can lighten up and sing like wimps, but there's no way that the wimpy singers can EVER pull off a difficult song! That is why they get praised to high heavens, even though they never show on AI that they can lighten up and sing wimpy!
BTW - I do own season tickets to a local theater that specializes in these local "diva" sort of voices...their performances are usually sold out....

My question is at what point does anyone "become American"?
American (n.): 1. An individual who takes liberty and opportunity for granted; who feels entitled to freedom, as defined by their own interpretation, without regard for the interpretations of others; one without the ability to recognize irony and/or hypocrisy in oneself; a person who makes no distinction between right and wrong, morality, and the legal system (see "Blue Laws", also "Dry County", "Adultery", and "Fellatio"). 2. Mono-lingual (sometimes poorly, see George W. Bush).
To answer your question, you become an American when you have the ability to take advantage of personal liberty and freedom of speech in order to declare the state of American society Hell-ward bound due to the abuse of same; while simultaneously being moved to homicidal rage if subjected to criticism of American culture from any outsider (esp. if from France).
This condition is also known colloquially as, “You did NOT just talk about my momma” syndrome, and it is contagious to natives and immigrants alike.
