American Idol dropped from 6 to 4 this week as we eliminated two contestants. The combined results had a total of slightly more than 130 million votes. The results had very little surprise factor to them though. Honestly, I think most people would only be surprised if Melinda left at this point.
First up was a talk with the judges. Ryan Seacrest asked Randy Jackson why rock worked for the Idols last night. Randy said he didn't think it would, but they all stepped up their game. Ryan asked Paula Abdul about why the original material seemed to work better this time around. Paula started to answer, but then Simon was doing something. This started an argument about Paula not being his puppet. Ryan said he's seen Simon's puppet and it's not pretty. Paula finally got to answer that she thought the payoff works for really taking a risk. Ryan pointed out that Simon always seems uninterested. Simon Cowell told Ryan that if he was going to be obnoxious that he won't answer him, and that Ryan owed his girlfriend an apology. Apparently Simon took Ryan's comment about the puppet as an insult to his girlfriend. Ryan said he wasn't talking about that he was referring to something else. Simon then gave top marks to Blake.
Then we went to a clip of Ryan talking to the public. Once again they picked stupid people who can't remember the names of the contestants. Ryan also talked to the Idols. He asked Blake Lewis how he comes up with his arrangments. Apparently Blake has a computer program that works out his "originality" for him. *Insert any insulting comment of your own right here* Ryan asked Jordin Sparks about the judges being hard on her for the first time in awhile. Jordin said everyone has to have a bad week. She braced herself for it and still gave it her all. Ryan talked to Phil Stacey about how he wasn't allowed to listen to pop music when he was a kid. Phil said they were discouraged from listening to anything other than gospel, but they still sneaked a bit of Slippery When Wet into the mix. Lakisha Jones got to answer the question we all want to know - what kind of kisser is Simon? She said he was good and she would do it again. Ryan said no, he has a girlfriend and it's very serious as they saw earlier. Simon laughed hysterically at that comment.
After a clip of Season Two winner Ruben Studdard pimping Idol Gives Back, Ryan asked Melinda if last week's charity show had an impact on her. Melinda Doolittle said that it was a huge blessing. Then we saw a recap of how awesome last week's show was. This was followed by a crappy performance by some crappy singer I've never heard of. Robin Thicke, who I guess has the number one R&B single at the moment. I hope he sounds better on CD than live. If he was auditioning, he wouldn't make the next round. He wouldn't make it in front of the judges to begin with.
Season Three winner Fantasia Barrino was next to pimp Idol Gives Back's 1-800 number. The Ford commercial was cool this week. The Idols sang "Paint it Black" as their car drove through a freak show style circus. Then we had a pimping of the website, where you can get info on the tour as well as vote on the songwriting competition.
Ryan then moved on to the business of the elimination. Melinda, Phil and Lakisha came to the center. Melinda was safe, making either Phil or Lakisha leaving tonight. Last night, I was going to say that Phil was doomed because he's had his best week ever and he sang "I'm going down in a blaze of glory". I should have, but I failed to make that prediction. Phil leaves us tonight, while Lakisha will wait and leave us next week (my prediction). My biggest "OMG" moment was when I noted that they changed the going home song. It wasn't the crappy Daughtry song, it was Carrie Underwood singing "I'll Stand By You."
Ryan then told the last three to stand, but then immediately told Jordin that since he messed with her so much last week she can sit down. The Bon Jovi performance was up next. They performed a song off their upcoming album "(You Want to) Make a Memory." Their album, "Lost Highway" comes out in June, and Jon Bon Jovi said their tour will start in January. Their performance was awesome. Jon wouldn't make a prediction, saying it was a tough choice.
Ryan talked to Blake and Chris Richardson about their friendship. They are best friends. They both said they would go home for the other. Blake added that it doesn't matter as they will be touring together. Chris will be leaving us and going home. Unfortunately my joy at that news was dashed when they started playing the crappy Daughtry song over his going home clip. Oh well, I still had my slight moment of joy.
Next week we get Disco Night, and I am really happy Phil doesn't have to try that genre. I'm also happy that we won't hear boyband Disco from Chris. I don't think I have been this satisfied with a result since Pickler left us. I am a smidge unhappy about Phil leaving - as I think Lakisha deserved to leave more. But Phil was never going to win, so it doesn't matter too much. I also find it interesting that we do indeed have a girls' year this year. There was some doubt in the mid-season that we wouldn't get our promised girls' year, but look now - we've got three Divas and a Blake!
Curl I don't think you are as old as me, but if you remember the show "Growing Pains' the dad was played by Alan Thicke. Robin Thicke is his son. There is your six degrees of seperation. Good recap. Nothing to add except when the gang was hugging at the end of Chris' song, you could hear crying and somebody say something. Did anyone hear what was said?
If you can't be a good example, then be a horrible warning!
This is my first year to actually watch the whole season and get "into" it...but I really do like how everyone really does seem to be friends and actually seem to care for each other....was this the case for all the other seasons?
HISTORY-MAKING! If you go back to our discussion when the Top Twelve were revealed, most of us picked the three Divas plus Blake as our Top Four. For the first time in AI history, there have been no "favorites" going home yet! I am very surprised that LaKisha stayed rather than Phil, but it was hardly shocking. I do belive her to be more talented, but LaKisha certainly hadn't shown it in several weeks - until last night.
A rant to AI producers:
1. One hour results show for less than 12 contestants = a show that ought to be 30 minutes long with a whole lot of filler. Lose the one hour results shows, please.
2. The themes this year SUCK! What, you had to put all of the worst themes ever into one season? Latin, Disco, and Country nights have all historically sucked. We get TWO schmaltzy love song "oldies" nights with Diana Ross and Tony Bennett, and another "oldies" night with "Songs from the British Invasion". Even Bon Jovi songs are mostly 15-25 years old - this is not a complaint as I love Bon Jovi - but they are still old songs. Other "theme nights" are just puzzling. Gwen Stefani? If you want to do a legendary trendsetter, why not a Madonna night? Or Annie Lennox? Heck, even J Ho has a larger and more diverse song catalog to choose from than Gwen.
Considering that AI tries to market itself as current and trendsetting - where is the "music of the 21st Century" night? What about "Songs Currently on a Billboard Chart" night? Heck, I'd even settle for "Songs that were on a Billboard Chart the Year that You were Born".
3. AI has ridiculously "jumped the shark" in booking acts to perform on the results show that are wholly unconnected to the theme. Fergie on "Country" night was bad enough, but Robin Thicke tonight? I'm not sure that even the best "Six Degrees of Seperation" players could link Robin Thicke to Jon Bon Jovi. Hello? What happened to "acts that want to perform must mentor"? I didn't complain about Shakira last year because she was on "Music from the 21st Century" night.
All in all, this may be the year that AI ceases to be fresh.
First of all Chris Daughtry's song "Home" is not crappy!
Second of all Lakisha should've taken Chris' place, because she is getting too many Kudos to stay in the game!
And third of all thanks for the information (I missed the show due to a long road trip).
SweetPea6627 said: im sad chris left he actually gave us somethign to look at and was actually worth listening to oh well GO BLAKE
I'm showing my age again...
Chris, something to look at?!? Ugh! I shudder at what the next generation of children will look like when females of child-bearing age pick mates that look like this! We're evolutionarily backsliding towards the apeman!
hahahahahahaha! i knew chris would go home! finally america had come to its sinces! and to think the judges compliment him every week. it proves that fake JT looks won't get u anywhere. halfway maybe, but not the entire way.
of course, jordin was safe. i'm kinda surprised phil got sent home but still...he DOES bug me.
that photo of simon cowell laughing is so priceless. and ruben studdard just annoys me now.
who do i think will make it to the finals? jordin and melinda. or maybe blake, if he's lucky
xyz

Ummm...sweetie, I'm going to delete your name because if this really is your name and age, it is not wise or safe to them on a public forum like this. You might come up with a make-believe name like "ILuvAmerIdol" or whatever else you would like.
Next, I don't think you meant the word "Kudos". Kudos means "praise", "high marks", or "acclaim". To say that LaKisha should go home because she's getting too many Kudos is like saying that you shouldn't get an "A" because you've gotten too many 90-100 scores on homework and exams.
I can't believe LaKisha made it. I am really happy for her because whether you like her or not she definitely is a better singer than Chris and IMHO Jordin. Phil has a great voice, but I never thought he was right for AI....like he was too old for the show.
For awhile there I thought Jordin had the inside track to being the next idol, but now I am not so sure. I think I am leaning towards Blake especially after last night's performance and if he continues to make songs his own. I find this refreshing.
Right now my order is:
Blake-AI Idol
Melinda-Runner Up
Jordin
LaKisha
I believe in talent y'all. Forget all the hype about looks, image, who is faking and who isn't. I'm rooting for Melinda and LaKisha. Jordin is next. Why does an AI have to fit into this grand steoreotype of perfection? No wonder Americans seem fickle to the rest of the world!
go..go.llakisha..have a big voice...talents and inner beauty...there are so many melinda out there...hellooo...jordin..is too young....blake go home next week;PPP
Phil and Chris
I so won't miss !!
So long , sayonara , bye-bye !
Jordin and Blake
Still running for their take
on fame and fortune ( sigh !!! ) !!
The final 4 !
I Can say no more
But Kiki ..... do me proud !!
Show 'em suckers
how to pucker
And win that AI CROWD !!!!
Melinda Melinda
sometimes I do wonder ......
There has never been a finalist like you !!!!
Melinda Melinda
you've done no blunder !!
And no one can ever say to you " BOO !! " !!!!!
Thank GAWD they left
and we are bereft
of two more losers of the pack !!!!
So Disco week at last !
Boy does time go fast !!
So who will next week be sacked ?
Hey there !!!!
WEll it was a nice elimination .........
a) Chris went
b) Phil went !!! WHOO !!! WHOO !!! WHOOOOOOOOO !!
c) Kiki remains !!!!!!!!!!!
Like in the Simpsons , " HAAAHAAA!!!"
O.k that entire Chris and Blake being best friends and sacrificing their chance to win a million dollar contract for the other was utter BULL-SH!T !!!! GAWD can those 2 get any sadder. They may be "BEST" friends but that still was FAKE UNLIMITED !!!! It really sounded wierd !!
Sometimes I wish that they both left , like you kow , they say that stupid line on friendship and all that sacrifice crap ............. then BOOM , Ryan says , " Well we have a shocker tonight people as both these guys are leaving !!!!! So Blake and Chris , you can leave as friends forever !" . Now won't that be an interesting show eh? Think about it ..................................
Was Jordin crying a lot when Chris left ? I did not see the last part , where they all cry and weep ! I like that part , 'cause most of the time , those are sad tears ! And there was this rumor that Chris and Jordin were " Best friends " . SPROUT BUDDY , COULD U FILL ME IN ON THIS ONE ?
Thank GAWD Kiki lives on .........................
Oh ............ Antonella was there again !!!!! Hmmm ......
Well , watched the last bit of the show and was not surprised. NO ONE CRIED for Chris !!!! Sadass !!!! So much for that Jordin-Chris thing. Not ONE TEAR !!! So long a$$-hole ( sorry ............ just hate him ) !!!!
Well , I kinda feel sorry for Phil now ................ he was a nice person , apart from the " WHOO!"s and the uninspiring look .
Does anyone have a feeling that Blake will be in the final 2 !! Well .................. if Lakisha goes and it's down to either Jordin or Blake being in the final 2 , I would pick him . Howver , knowing him , he's gonna be beat - boxing the whole time next week . I can just picture it .............. him and that computer of his and a wonderful disco song that he's gonna mutilate and change into some wierd "HIP-POP" song . AND I MEAN HIP-POP , NOT HIP-HOP.
"HIP-POP" means a song thats been "BLAKEISED" ( cool name huh ? ) i.e. transformed into something soooooooo different and wierd that it's bound to keep Paula and his fan club " as happy as a cricket " !! Otherwise , it falls flat !!! Usually , score wise , he is between 6.5 and 8.
Now, next week decides who stays and who goes ........... who wins eternal glory ( for a year ....... lol ) and who goes home in shame and no money . Life's tough eh ?
DID YOU KNOW THAT THEY GET PAID WHEN THEY REACH THE TOP 12 !!! I HAD NO IDEA !!!!!!!!!!! I MEAN THEY GET THE PUBLICITY AS WELL AS THE MOOLAH !!!! WOW !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Oh and u're probably wondering if his performance usually falls flat , why have I given him a 6.5 - 8 score. Well , 6.5 ain't that great when you're the top 4 !!!!!!

Another bit of trivia. Alan Thicke is also a composer and signer. He co-wrote and sang the theme to Different Strokes! I think he co-wrote the Facts of Life theme as well. Taking that information and recalling Robin Thicke's questionable performance last night, you can draw your own conclusions.
With the contestants down to four, does this mean that they will be singing two songs? Two Disco songs would be awesome, but I cannot see that playing out like that. There must be a second theme. Any ideas?
Two "Blakeised" Disco songs ??????? Oh well ...........
But two Melinda and Lakisha songs ? Whoooooooooo ...
Two "Jordinised" disco songs ? hmmmm..... interesting , that is if she can keep her mouth shut and sing only ( hehehe ). Actually , if she loses that fake " BUBBLYISHIOUS" attitude , I would luv her !!!!!!!
TC
( Zayra, Gina and Sanjaya rock )
Where are all those comments??????? Ususally , I write the least !!!!!!! Cooooooooooooooooooooooool !!!
Oh , and Alan Thicke has a strange voice ........ not wierd , just strange. I mean , his song was nice................................ish , but it sounded real strange ............. like he wanted someone in the audiance to jump into bed with him or something like that ................. I don't know .......................... it sounded funny thats all !!!!!
TC ( again ! hehe )
( Zayra, Gina and Sanjaya rock )
PS - NO KELLY !!!! WHERE'S KELLY ? "GRACE KELLY" !!!
Well, I think at least the three ladies will thrive with disco. Heck, Blake may bring back the Bee Gees Beatbox Nation, what do you think. I think next week will have superb performances. Homerun Derby. Love to all! Will
Will said: Well, I think at least the three ladies will thrive with disco. Heck, Blake may bring back the Bee Gees Beatbox Nation, what do you think. I think next week will have superb performances. Homerun Derby. Love to all! Will
Any Rockstar news??????
I also believe the ladies will do well next week. Maybe AI will flip the script and the other theme will be "Fat Boys" to cater to Blake.
If Blake makes it to the final two, AI should bring in Justin Timberlake and they can have a beat boxing contest. Yes folks, Chris R wasn't the only person trying to be a Justin Timberfake.
Curlio, the song Robin Thicke sang is the hottest thing on the R&B scene. I did not like the key in which he sang last night, it was too high. If you heard it on CD you would absolutely love it. It is a very sexy song. Last night's perfromance did not do the CD justice.
There weren't any real surprises with last night's results; maybe Phil could have stayed in place of Lakisha, but I can live with the situation as it is.
The BeeGees next week does not necessarily mean all disco. They had some really nice slow jams back in the day. "How deep is your love" is the one that readily comes to mind.
If the show follows the format of previous years, all four contestants will each sing two songs next week. Blake will probably be at a disadvantage, since his style is somewhat one-dimensional because of his limited vocals, and he may appear to be lacking variety. However he is the most creative and cleaver of the four, so may very well surprise us.
Jordin has to be careful that she does not strain her voice with two songs. I hope she does a slow song first and then let it rip for the second song with her power vocals.
Lakisha has to chose the right songs. If she does, she can make it to the next round. No one doubts her singing ability, but we do question her song choices.
Melind, Melinda, it is yours to lose. Just keep doing what you have been doing, and as you have become more aggresive with your stage performance it will be a real upset if you do not win it all.
Incidentally, I am so tired of hearing what a boring performer you are. You are not!! Who was a more boring perfromer than Carrie Underwood? She can sing yes, but had no stage presence whatsoever.
A final four that is as talented as any final four in any season of AI. The competition has now reached another level.
Chris, something to look at?!? Ugh! I shudder at what the next generation of children will look like when females of child-bearing age pick mates that look like this! We're evolutionarily backsliding towards the apeman!
it amazes me how rude people are so what if people think he's cute. So you may not think he's cute his personality and his looks make him cute. I don't see the JT resemblance because i personally dislike JT. But to say that we wouldpick mates that look like him and go back to apeman is a terrible thing to say and mean!
