Based on the performances on Burman-Asha theme, six singers had to prove themselves once again to go into the next round after which two of them would be eliminated. The theme this time was “Latest Hits”. The show began with the usual introduction of the mentors Bappi Lahiri, Vishal,Shekhar,Himmesh Reshammiya, Ismail Darbar and judges Asha Bhosle and Ghulam Ali.
First up was Meghna from Hit-it Gharana and she sang “Zindagi Main Kabhi Koi Aaye Na Rabba” from the movie Musafir. On a side note, I still keep cursing myself for watching this movie! Irrespective of how the movie was, I liked this composition. Next from the Hit-it group was Apurva who sang “Tu Hi Meri Shab Hain” from Gangster. The mentors felt there was a lot of improvement in them compared to yesterday. Ashaji advised Meghna to reduce the vibration in her voice while singing. The judges and mentors had good words for Apurva.
Yogendra from Rock Gharana sang “Phiritha Rahoon Dar Badar” from the movie The killer. Shreshta sang “Tere Liye” from the movie Veer Zaara. I think the song did not suit Shrestha’s voice. Again mentors felt improvement in these two also, but advised to give importance to sur. Ghulam Ali Saab wished well for Yogendra. Ashaji felt there less throw in Shreshta’s voice and asked her to work on that.
Josh Gharana’sSunil Kumar sang “Dil De Diya Hain” from the movie Masti. Koyal sang “I wanna make love to you” from the movie Aitraaz. Mentors were in praise of Sunil, but they felt Koyal messed up in the Antara. Ismail Darbar felt Koyal’s song as well as her dressing was pretty bold. Ashaji expressed her displeasure with the song selection. She said that future contestants should keep in mind that not just India, but other countries also would be watching this show; we need to be careful while depicting our culture.
Based on these performances, two people will be dropped and in place of them two people will be selected from the Eklavya group which is more like a back up group.
From the girls, Koyal got eliminated and I must say she took it sportingly. She was aware of her short comings and she was willing to work on them. Ashaji was still bothered by the song selection and asked who had selected this song to which Koyal said it was the music directors of the show. One of the music directors stood up and disagreed on that claim. Ok, I am not really sure if the show is well edited, but this is what happened……while the music director was explaining that the claim is false, Himmesh jumped in and started justifying why that song was there in the movie……err weren’t we arguing on something else???? And what was that statement about “No one will talk in between when I am talking”…..Himmesh, what about you interrupting the music director, because of which we never got to know who selected this song! Ashaji tried to calm the situation and told Koyal not to give up after this elimination.
Yogendra got eliminated from the boys group. He really seems to be popular contestant, everyone were in smiles whenever he was up on the stage. Himmesh was charmed by his innocence. He too handled his elimination well. He added that he hasn’t been trained in classical and yet he was considered good enough to be standing on this platform with the rest. His parents were upset with the elimination, yet very proud of him. His father was so sweet and he sang a song for his son “Agar Tum Na Hote”…..and I must say he sang very well. Bappi Da became very emotional after this and he offered Yogendra to come home and sing for him and he’ll see if something can work out. I believe Bappi Da when he says he will try to give a chance to a contestant unlike Annu Malek who made promises to a lot of contestants in Indian Idol, but has not kept a lot of them….. I am waiting to hear something from Amey Date!
I was really expecting tears galore, but was surprised to see both Koyal and Yogendra handle the elimination with a lot of grace and dignity and keen to work on their flaws. Is it only in Indian Idol that we see all the tears? Remember Antara from Indian Idol 2, her ‘chote se gaanv ki’ story and her tears!
From what I have seen so far, I must say I am disappointed with the performances. All these years, Sa Re Ga Ma Pa has made a name in the industry and has churned out good singers… Shreya Ghosal, Kunal Ganjawala etc. I was expecting much more in terms of singing, but nobody has wowed me really in these two days. Again this time the song selection was not any great. I think the contestants need to pull up their socks and work really hard… and the same goes for their mentors.
Agreed on many counts....The performance were dismal.......Not dismal exactly but still....I loved the guy who got eliminated.....And as for tears wait fr some time madame...It will come......
I'm amazed at how bad most of these contestants are! They need to take this once in a lifetime opportunity seriously and perform their best.
What bothers me about this years Challenge 2007 is that they did not even bother to advertise the auditions in the USA! How are people overseas going to audition and make their dreams come true when they didn't even get informed of the auditions in the first place?
So whenever I hear the judges complain in any of these talent shows that there is no exceptional talent, I just think to myself, "you didn't put in enough effort to find talent in the first place otherwise you would advertise the auditons more."
I highly doubt 99% of these contestants are going to make it big in Bollywood in music. Their voices just don't stand out. Is this really the best collection of "talent" we have in India? That's sad. I'm still waiting for another Sunidhi, Shreya, Sonu, Udit to emerge from one of these talent competitions. I dunno when it will happen though. But there's still hope, I guess.
Don't mind me, I'm just a guest.
