American Idol finally delivered everything that America wanted. America wanted a shocking result, so America got it. Then again to many it probably wasn't a shock anyhow, but predictable. I guess you can't ever really give all of America what they want.
Tonight's show opened with Homer Simpson doing the introduction. After telling Homer how to improve his timing, Ryan Seacrest announced that the performers tonight would be Elliott Yamin and Maroon 5. After a commercial, we were treated to a promo for the Idols Live tour.
Ryan then talked to Jordin Sparks about what last week was like. Apparently they went back home on Friday where they were busy all day long then had to come back the next day to work on the Ford commercial. We saw a longer clip of Jordin's trip back home. She was treated to Jordin Sparks Day with a parade, news station interviews, and a trip to the local schools. She also had a reunion with her best friend who she hasn't seen in awhile. Back in the present, Ryan recapped what the judges thought of Jordin's performance last night. He paid close attention to Simon's mean comments. Then Ryan gave Jordin the bad news that she would have to wait until later in the show to find out the results.
After the Idol Challenge, we were treated to Blake Lewis. Ryan started singing "This Love" while Blake beatboxed. Ryan asked him about hanging out with Sir Mix-a-Lot. Apparently Blake has done a few shows with him before. Ryan mentioned Blake's dad being emotional as they went into the clip of Blake's trip back home. It started with a trip to Seattle, where he saw the Space Needle. On the actual trip home, he met with his parents and his dad indeed got all weepy. The last clip showed Blake singing the National Anthem at the Seattle Mariners baseball game. Back to the present where Blake's dad is standing onstage with him. Ryan has to convince him to leave the stage. Ryan recaps the judges comments then asks what Blake thinks happened with the results. Blake said that they'll cut to a commercial break. Ryan said he was close, then asked if they are that predictable.
It wasn't a commercial we went to but a performance by Elliott Yamin. He sang "Wait for You." He definitely looks different, I think I liked him better the old way. He sang good though. Ryan told him they would go to the judges, which Elliott didn't want to do. Randy Jackson was happy Elliott came home. Paula Abdul was speechless and very proud. Simon Cowell joked that it wasn't that great, then said it was great. Elliott told the final three to be proud for making it this far, telling them this is only the beginning.
The Ford Commerical featured some kids singing in their bedroom to the song "Everyone Wants You." When they came out of their bedroom, they turned into Blake, Melinda, and Jordin. This led to Melinda's clip. She said the best part about going home was drinking sweet tea. She also liked being able to look people in the eye and thank them. She went off to the local Fox morning show, met with the Governor of Tennessee. She also went back to her school and her church. After the recap of the judges comments, Ryan told Melinda she would be waiting for the results which were even closer than the last time. I thought for sure he'd tell her she was safe and get that part over with.
Next up was a promo for the new band show the producers of AI have come up with. It was the same clip as the last time. Then Maroon 5 came out to perform "Makes Me Wonder." It was a good performance, I just don't like the song very much. At least this week's performances felt like they had some connection to the show last night. Elliott was the number three person last year, so that makes sense. Blake performed a Maroon 5 song last night, so that makes sense. Why couldn't they make the rest of the extra performers this season have some sort of limited connection?
Finally down to the results, Ryan tells Jordin that after almost 60 million votes she will be happy as she is safe. Next up was Melinda, who was going home. That makes our final two as Jordin and Blake. The judges were shocked, Simon's face said it all. Randy told her she has nothing to be ashamed of. Paula said it's time for her to go off to her career. Simon congratulated Blake and Jordin, and told Melinda she is one heck of a singer. Melinda ended the show with another performance of "I'm a Woman" without forgetting her words this time.
Well we wanted a shocking result, so here it is. I'm shocked, though I'm sure many others aren't. Melinda needed the win the least out of the entire Top 24 I'd say. She'll probably have offers in her lap before the night is over. As for who wins now - it doesn't really matter. Jordin and Blake are even in quality. The better singer is out of the competition so it just doesn't matter.
I am done with this season. The AI queue has been deleted from my DVR. I will not be watching next week. I hope Melinda pulls a Chris Daughtry and has a successful album. I am shocked that America voted for Blake and Jordin more than they did for Melinda, but then, if you want to see how America votes, all you have to do is look at who is running this country! I'm done!

seriously, I thought Melinda was the one out of all 3 who was reasonable safe. I don't usually vote, and yesterday I tried all 3 numbers for her at various times throughout the voting window, and busy every time. So it's not necessarily how many people vote, but how many crazy people are willing to redial for 2 hours straight.
No worries for Melinda's career, and I'd rather not see her sing a couple douche-y songs about pots of gold and moments like this. She needs to put out a funk-gospel-rock-r&B album - trust me the radio will LOVE it ;)
oh yea, and im not watching the finale now. i'm pretty sure jordin will win (shame on the judges for pimping her mercilessly during the middle part of the finals..they caused her to become the top vote-getter), and it won't be that bad..she's just have an album of boring ballads that no one will really want anyway. and if blake wins...seriously, he's not even half as good as elliott...this show is finished.
woah...so melinda IS going home. as much as her humbleness irks me, it is so sad to see someone as talented as her go. i honestly thought it was going to be a melinda vs. jordin finale.
i hope jordin wins. if blake does, i will laugh sooo hard.
p.s. doesn't that picture of elliot yamin look like adam sandler in that movie i was going to watch but decided against? "reign over me or something?". is it just me?
Yes sad to say, americans seem too superficial these days to recognize whats best anymore, but are only blinded by youth. melinda could sing rings around the other two but her age and not youthful or latest worked against her. Will our society ever be able to discern true talent??
I so agree with you that the best singer is out of the competition so it does not matter any more. I am seriously considering boycotting next week, but who would know so why miss all the drama.
Why are so many sites... including yours... ignoring Blake's home town of Bothell WA and the 7000 or more screaming fans who came out to cheer on our local star? Oh well WE are proud of him and of Bothell even if you choose to totally ignore us. :)
America Got it wrong, I agree with the comment of look who is running the country. I am so sad to see Malinda go. She has a great career in front of her. She is Alwsome. PLease American SEnd BLake HOme
I am shocked at the result, but not surprised. Melinda is by far the most talented singer, but she does not perform the kind of music that the majority of voters are fans of. From what I can tell, most of the people that vote are between the ages of 12-20. That isn't the demographic that will buy an album from Melinda. They will, however, buy an album that Blake puts out. I seriously think that Blake has better than even odds to win it all. Jordin is talented, but, again, doesn't perform the kind of music that most of the voters, primarily teenaged girls, will listen to.
I kind of look at it this way... You can't complain if you don't vote. I never picked up the phone so whoever everyone else voted for is in the finals. I like Blake and Jordin both and wish them luck.

Fredereek, I've missed you! Now I realize what has been missing this year!
Okay we finally got our shocker. But was it too little too late?
Melinda was my fave and I am kinda like Ben with next week. Weather or not I watch will depend on who is on the finale. And it is going to be real hard to top last years show.
Guess this will be another year I don't buy the winner's CD.
If you can't be a good example, then be a horrible warning!
Seriously, in what way do the results really effect your life?? It is a popularity contest. If you want results based on talent maybe the show should change the way the votes are handled more like that dancing show where only 5 votes are allowed either via the internet or per phone line and where the judges have a say each week. I watch it, I find it interesting, I love music in most forms. Yes, even what some would consider bad music. Best wishes to all contestants who even in their worst weeks have way more talent than I do.
Melinda Dollittle was a fabulous singer and she's gonna make it all the way. I feel that Blake should have went home, and Melinda really deserved that spot, but this is American Idol!!!!!

I have to admit, Melinda pulled the punches, listened to what the judges were saying, and honed her skill to the point that everyone thought she was sure-fire winner. Although a shocker to most, I had an aching feeling she was going. It comes down to X-Factor I think. Blake and Jordin are young, and let?s face it, it?s the 16-25 year old that are biggest share on buying CD?s. Melinda doesn?t deserve to go, it?s a crying shame. The only thing she should have worked on which could have changed her outcome possibly is her taking compliments and not being so modest. She knew she was good but her being surprised at the judges comments made me cringe. She reminded me of that self-conscient woman on Police Squad. Too many quiet, thank you?s and her stale personality did get to me after a while and likely did for a lot of fans who really thought she had it in the bag. I wish she had done a few ?FREEZE DIRTBAG? moments to shock everyone. Jordin is definately stronger of the remaining two, and with Melinda unjustly gone it?s an even tougher call for for a winner for most. Although this is not my choice, my money is on Blake, which could make for another "I'm not suprprised" on Idol this year. I do genuinely feel Balke will take his career further than Jordin will, but Jordin will come up with a more polished CD with more credability. I can't see Blake winning a Grammy at novelty beat-boxing. It'll get stale fast. Nevertheless all three will be signed, tour and make oodles of money... everybody wins and Simon gets even more ridiculously rich signing them to a label !
Melinda was very classy on her exit, but I'm not convinced she'll make it big. What's her genre? She's not a pop artist or a rocker. The best songs she did were old hits from the late 60's - hardly marketable today.
i fully expected and believed that when it is all said and done melinda deserved to win this year. she earned it.
like him or loath him - i call a blake win. is it possible that blake got a much needed boost from chris daughtry's interview were he called blake his pick and discussed why?
fredereek - melinda was overheard asking Elliot who his dentist was during the break.
fredereek, when you are in the room you are a much needed laugh riot.
shellybean, would you consider posting a party notice on the site for all us need a good tequila grrrl party next time around? sounds like a hoot!
for me the season is over. bring on a rock star thingy please!
