Indian Idol 3 - Home Viewers Choose The Twelfth Knight!

Last week, Indian Idol 3 producers proved that they knew how to extract more votes from the emotional home viewers and almost gave a one-on-one lesson on how to waste time and stretch the show longer than it has to be! So, we thought that we’d get our Top 13 last night and we also thought that the Finals of Indian Idol 3 would kick start last night! The problem with us is that we think way too much and the producers are laughing at us for having such thoughts! Yes, my dear friends, the torture is not yet over!
The good news is that I didn’t have to stay up all night to cover last night’s episode. And the bad news is we still are unaware who the Top 13 really are! Well, I know who they are, but I am not spoiling y’all! What do you mean I am not being fair? I am being fair here! Go search, if y’all are that impatient, as if y’all haven’t already!
Anyway, as we all know Amit Paul, Ankita Mishra, Padmanav Bordoloi and Suhit Gosain performed as the 4 Wild Cards last Saturday and one of them was supposed to be chosen by the home audience and the other was to be the choice of the judges! Well, we got the Twelfth Knight, but the Lucky Thirteenth remains a mystery!
Speaking of judges, let’s meet them, because no matter who says what, they have really done an outstanding job of selecting the talent this year as compared to last two years!
Javed Akhtar Saab – This man is a voice of reason and fairness and though many imbeciles are questioning his judgement because he speaks his mind and tells it like it is! His participation this year has made a lot of difference when you think about the Top 28!
Udit Narayan – This man is a great singer, and though quite neutral, his words have been very encouraging and he hasn’t yet played the favouritism card even once! He is, undoubtedly, an extremely likeable man!
Alisha Chinai – Her favouritism has damaged her image as a judge to an extreme and since she has not done anything that irritated me tonight, I will let her be!
Annu Malek – He is back! Well, Annu has said something very caustic which has made the news, so I am hoping to see that tonight. In the meantime, he loves to be in the limelight! I am just happy that he was missing during the Marathon Run of Indian Idol 3!
Cool Mini Mathur and adorable Hussain (who is million times better than Aman Verma) were the hosts as usual and with that, let the show begin…
This is Indian Idol 3 – Wild Card Result Episode – Part Uno!
The show began with the Top 11 singing, “Salaam-e-Ishq” as a group! The looked quite dapper in their coordinated black outfits! It was a fun performance, but I must confess that some contestants sounded rather weak in comparison with the others, example – Jolly Das! Annu praised the other judges and himself (of course) for selecting such amazing people as the finalists! Alisha agreed with him! Well, I agree with them, the finalists are rather good!
Next, Hussain and Mini called the remaining 4 Wild Cards on the stage and Hussain shouted that the home viewers have chosen, “SUHIT!”…
:: pause ::
Or “PADMANAV!” or “ANKITA!” or “AMIT!” no one knows yet!
Great job of building the suspense, Hussain! It’s just that when you called Suhit’s name, I think I had a small stroke!
So to give the verdict – Zayed Khan came on the stage and was very friendly and sweet! When Mini announced that Zayed was joining them, the look on Padmanav’s face led me to think so many questions that I don’t think I can ask any of them!
Anyway, Zayed was a guest during Indian Idol 1, which I had not seen so I’ll nod along , and he was happy to be back on the show!
Zayed was then asked to reveal the name of the contestant, who had made it through, thanks to the home viewers’ votes!
Drum Roll Please!
The Twelfth Knight selected was AMIT PAUL!
What? Wow! What happened here? Have the voters gone sane all of a sudden? Whatever! I loved this verdict! I am really glad that Javed Saab had said what he said last week; also Udit’s harsh critique must have made a great difference! I am glad Amit is in…
Ok, at the cost of upsetting many, I have to wonder whether regionalism played a part in this selection, because as much as I like Amit, I think regional votes do not help anyone’s career in a long run! Last year’s winner is a poster child of regional votes, and he has disappeared from the scene!
Anyway, Amit was asked to sing and he sang – “Woh Sikander Hi Doston” – It was a nice performance, I mean as far as I am not supposed to vote, why should I try and dissect any performances?
Inclusion of Amit in Top 13 created a great excitement in the Winners’ Circle and the Top 11 welcomed him with open arms! I must say that the finalists are a friendly bunch and elimination each week might dampen their mood, as they come across rather emotional!
Next they showed us a medley of sorts…
Starting with Meiyang Chang and Charu Semwal, they performed, “Gore Gore Gore” – I think Meiyang waxed his chest, but then again who cares! It was a sweet performance!
Next, Smita Adhikari and Deepali took on the rains by singing, “Baras Jaye Badal Baras Ja” – Y’all know how much I love Smita, but putting her next to Deepali, one realizes that Deepali is on a different plateau. Needless to say, Deepali stole the show!
Sexy Parleen Singh Gill was paired with Sipoy Prashant Tamang, and they sang, “Masti – Chain Kuli Ki Main Kuli” – if you are wondering why I called Parleen sexy, just see him perform! The guy can move, and he can really perform! I am sure that the gals go gaga over him, but I also thought that if my gay friends back in US saw him perform, they too would join the gals! Oh and Prashant can perform really well, too! I thought it was a fantastic performance! I think if one takes away the pressure of performing for the votes, these kids can really shine!
Then Emon Chatterjee, Puja Chatterjee and Abhishek Kumar took the stage and performed a medley of, “Meri Pyaari Bindu”, “Muttukodi Kavadi Hada” and “Ek Chatur Naar” – This was the best performance of the night! Mon Dieu! Who knew that Abhishek had such an amazing range! With this performance Abhishek moved to the Top 3 in my books! Only problem that I had with this performance was that Puja hardly got to sing! Emon was fantastic as always!
The judges were really happy! This led to banter between the two boys and the judges! Emon and Annu sang a song together as Emon had mimicked Annu in the past! Abhishek imitated Udit beautifully and Udit sang the same lines Abhishek did and proved that no matter how good an imitator does, nothing can beat the original!
Then they showed a clip of Udit using the word, “Lekin” during his critique and according to the count, it was around 700 plus! This was an intro to the Top 6 boys singing, “Do You Wanna Partner… Lekin, Kintu, Parantu!” Udit joined the boys and gave a smashing performance! And he was so happy with the contestants that he claimed that if he could he would make all of them Indian Idol!
Then Mini called Suhit, Ankita and Padmanav on the stage and asked them to perform, the three tried to perform, “Aaj Ki Raat” – Well, it was not really that great! I mean one would think Ankita would do really great, but Ankita was mumbling a lot and as far as Suhit and Padmanav are concerned, they were reduced to singing the chorus with Ankita, so it was Ankita’s song and she was not into it, maybe it was because of the nerves, who knows!
Javed Saab said that they cannot judge who the best amongst the three was based on the performance, as all three were bad, so they have to judge by previous performances! Alisha said that all the three were off-key as they were tense! Annu said that Padmanav should be selected based on singing and on performance basis, both Ankita and Suhit were great!
Except Suhit is not really great!
Javed Saab said that he agreed with Annu that Padmanav was a great singer and Ankita was a great performer and though he didn’t like Suhit, he couldn’t deny the fact that Suhit was popular! And then said they cannot decide on one contestant hastily and hence the Judges’ Choice would be revealed tonight!
Hallelujah!
They sure know how to waste time! Oy Vey!
Meet Y’all with the Judges’ Choice!
Till then…
Cheers!
P.S. This had to be the dumbest episode that I have ever covered!
I had to disagree with you on the fact that it was the dumbest show till date Sprout....Ya as far as competition goes we didnt go much into the next level but it was fun to watch this....And thats the difference btw II3 and SRGMP...This ismuch more fun and to be quite fair it was watchable you now.....The performances were good and abhisheh and emmon just blew he stage off.......
And yea regional votes or not Amt should have been in the top 11..... But we could say the same of many people....So if this was the result of regonnal votes then i am happy with it....
Ajay, by dumbest I mean - this episode should not really be covered! I mean you see it, you enjoy it, but you don't really have to talk about it!
If I just say, "Home Viewers chose Amit Paul and the other finalists performed brilliantly!" It would suffice!
This is not really news, this is stretching the show to max! They could have had 2 finalists last Saturday, but they dragged the selection by a week!
Agreed, it was a fun episode, but is that really news worthy?! I mean it was almost like covering a party! You enjoy the party, but you don't really write about it!
The Core Of Man's Spirit Comes From New Experiences!
Agree..voting has come of age: and janta finally chose the best out of the four in singing terms.
Still wondering how come Aisha was voted out then?
Out of the remaining three: Now I see the reasoning: now that the one-who-is-always-offkey continued to be off-key, you had to say they were all off-key. Well, all the singers out there should know how hard it is to sing with someone who is off-key (I remember Charu with you-know-who in the duet round) without going off-key yourself.
Abhishek is really coming into his own now. I thought Chang was a bit too restrained, singing-wise, in the gori-gori performance.
Jolly's weaknesses are showing up against this fine field.
Finally, I liked the way the 11 finalists looked really really happy when Amit's name was annouced: the applause and expressions were very real (or were they just glad it was not SG)?
I agree with that Sprout.....It was news but it was good....i thought that meant otherwise......I aint against a bit of fun rt? And as far as Jolly goes she was not a good singer last time around also remember....So the thirteen is in....So whos everyones favourite?
lol. Guess wt ppl, i finished my exams! yeyy!!! May the best one get chosen tonight. In fact, they r already chosen, rn't they!
And Sprout ji, i want to say sth about Meiyang's chest. lol. He is from a Chinese background and they tend to have a lot less hair than the Indians. So, maybe he DIDN'T wax his chest! lol.
I still feel really sad when I watched II3.(as Aisha my favourite wasnt there ...thanx to partial judges ...knowing the fact that Ankita+Suhit have strong voting response than Aisha+Bhavin...&that was obvious that Aisha+Bhavin never get entry to the gala in the presence of Ankita +Suhit as votes will be divided)Actually I want to see my favourite Sunidhi.otherwise Im not interested in II3 any more.(After seeing Aisha voted out again). When I was watching Sunidhi I was really missing talented Aisha.. Aisha has powerful & melodious voice like Sunidhi+powerful stage presence too.
I have a suggestion to all fans of the musical talent shows and I think it is practically possible as well. It would be a great thing to get the winners or top 3 or whatever suitable number of contestants from all the currently running talent shows on a common platform and showcase their talent. It will be really exciting wouldn't it be?
"Starting with Meiyang Chang and Charu Semwal, they performed, “Gore Gore Gore” – I think Meiyang waxed his chest, but then again who cares! It was a sweet performance!"
Meiyang did what???? and more so, why are we discussing it??? Yeooooowww!!!
I am sorry but I found this comment a tad offensive: -
When Mini announced that Zayed was joining them, the look on Padmanav’s face led me to think so many questions that I don’t think I can ask any of them!
This was derogatory and uncalled for no matter how subtle it was.
Don't mind me, I'm just a guest.
