Sa Re Ga Ma Pa – Wild Card round begins

After some of the finalists selected, now it was time to bring in the wild card entrants. In the wild card round (Brahmastra round), one of the gharana mentors get to bring back six voted out contestants from which the public will vote for two of them. Before the show began they showed a clipping of the Pakistani contestants Junaid,Mussarat and Amanat Ali visiting their homes. It was nice to see that this show is popular over there too and each of these contestants was given warm welcome.

Host Aditya ( who is now donning a little moustache) congratulated Himmesh for his new movie being released and invited Himmesh’s mom on stage who had come to watch the show. She is such a sweet and humble lady. Himmesh releases his movie on his mom’s birthday which I feel is a very sweet gesture. Lets welcome the mentors Bappi da, Vishal-Shekhar, Himmesh and Ismail Darbar

Based on public votes, Vishal & Shekhar gets the power of brahmastra …yayy!! Here is their list of six wild card entrants

Sarika from Hit-it gharana was the first contestant selected and she sang ‘Kabhi Alvida Na Kehna’ from the movie ‘Kabhi Alvida Na Kehna’. I am very happy that she was called back, ‘cause I was upset when she got voted out. But after hearing her performance I think I am beginning to see what Truly has been saying all this time. She sings well no doubt, but somewhere I feel that there is no base in her voice. Her tone is on the surface level due to which it doesn’t sound the best voice for playback singing. I wasn’t too pleased with her song selection too. Not that it is a bad choice but just that for me it’s not the best choice of song when you are in a wild card round.All the mentors were happy with her performance and happy to have her back.

Next choice was Sunil Kumar from Josh gharana. He sang ‘Tenu Leke’ from the movie ‘Salaam -e-Ishq’. I have seen better performances from Sunil and song choice also was not best. Mentors felt that they expected more from him and he did not live up to their expectations.

A very obvious choice was Raja Hassan from Hit-it gharana . This boy has slowly started growing on me. I hadn’t noticed him so much in the Eklavya group, but loved him from the time he performed ‘Allah Ke Bandeh’. Apart from his singing he is so humble. He sang ‘Nainon ki’ from the movie ‘Omkara’ and what a performance it was ! At the end of his performance, everyone in the audience was chanting his name and asked Raja to sing once more, which he did. Vishal and Shekhar walked up to the stage to hug him and requested the public to vote for him. On being asked by Aditya for his mood changes, Raja said that he lost his grandmom, one relative and his nephew in a span of 4 days. And the day Raja got eliminated his older brother had an attack of paralysis. My god! this kid has seen so much in these few days. I can’t even imagine how he was able to sing inspite of all these family tragedies. All the mentors blessed him for his future.

Next a funny thing happened…Aditya was announcing among the audiences when a girl walked up and proposed him and kissed him on his cheek. Aditya’s expression was priceless. He was blushing like a beet root and totally forgot his words!!

The next contestant selected was Saaberi from Hit-it gharana and she sang ‘Beedi’ from Omkara. Ok, now I am so bored of this song, every other contestant in II3 and SRGMP is singing this song. Saaberi was out of breath many times and was screaming at some places, but the mentors didn’t think so. They all loved her performance. Himmesh felt that her best is yet to come.

The fifth selection for brahmastra round was Harpreet Deol from Josh gharana…yayyy!! Good choice! He sang ‘Mujhe Kuch Kehna Hai’ from the movie ‘Mujhe Kuch Kehna Hai’. He performed well as expected. Mentors were also happy with him

Vishal and Shekhar gave Ismail Darbar to choose the sixth contestant for wild card. Ismail chose Desh Gaurav from his own gharana…I am little surprised he didn’t select Wasi or Jyoti from his gharana. Anyways Desh Gaurav sang ‘Mere Rang Mein’ from the movie ‘Maine Pyaar Kiya’. He was shaky in too many places. In comparison to the other contestants, I did not like his performance so much. Mentors felt that he tried to sing in the original singer S.P.Balasubramanium’s voice and may be that was not a good idea. But then they later found that Desh Gaurav’s voice quality is quite similar to SPB’s.

My only rant this time was I was surprised that VS did not select Reecha or even Shresta.

After these 6 contestants selected, the show producers brought in two more wild card entrants – winners of Sa Re Ga Ma Pa Marathi and Bengali. This was totally unacceptable by the other mentors and this led to huge discussions on not having them perform as wild card entrants. I felt sorry for the two contestants – Anik and Abhijit who were standing on the stage and feeling unwanted. I’ll tell you all in my next post what happens to them…as if you all don’t know by now

	hey that stuff abt aditya getting proposed, i think it was staged, coz he was standing with the audience when that happened and i have never seen him announce from the audience

	Sarika is to nasal, too shallow, and often sings in falsetto. Why did Ismail about Jyoti being voted out if he didn't bring her back at first chance. All drama and no substance or else they have a hidden agenda that changes daily.

	Raja Hasan is good in the kind of songs he picked. I dont know if he has versatality. Neverthless, he is my pick based on what he did. He was very good in the last 4 to 5 performances, unfortunately he got grouped with wrong people and he had a slip up which caused Amanat Ali to be picked. SRGMP should have grouped them carefully. I think Sunil, Amanat and Raja in the same group was a mistake. .

	In an earlier post, I said Mauli is a "1 hit wonder", I still stand by it because, even the other saucy numbers she sang afterwards did not come up to mark. I think she has the talent... I think the early applaus has made her overconfident and she is taking this show for granted. Dont mistake me, all you Mauli fans, I would like to see her succeed. Just like I would like to see the most deserving candidate win this show. Sarika : I think she sings ok. Keeps in sur, but no life in her songs. She does not stand out like some of the other female singers. I dont agree that she is better than any other other female singers still around. Sumedha - She sings very well in her very first performance, that took her from Ekalvya to the finals. Compare with Mauli's first performance - mind blowing, but she is still having to prove herself time and time again. We know she can fault and lose... so could Sumedha. So why put her in the finals while others have to prove themselves? I dont like this format - Junaid and Harpreet and Raja had to sing again and again and again to get though this show, but Sumedha sings once and goes to finals. My choice would be one of the boys - Raja, Junaid, Musarrat, Harpreet, Amanat or Rimi or Saberi. Other contestants dont stand out as much. I forget the others performances very easily. Judges : Ismail Darbar and Vishal shekar are very correct in their judgement (I agree with most of their comments). Bappi is like Paula Abdul in American Idol - "you sang well Keep it up" no matter how the performance is. Himesh - He is out to promote himself and his AKS movie. All that "tere ghar mein roti chahiye" dialogue was unnecessary. Does musarrat come from such a poor family that he has to sing for his rotis ? C'mon this show is for showcasing talent. I am sure Musarrat would have been so embarassed by that drama. Musarrat is an excellent singer, with our good wishes, he will definitely get more wealth than roti with shaahi paneer and tandoori gosht :-)

	I have just watched Saaberi's beedi: it must be one of the most awful performances ever. (agree it is being over sung). She was flat or went over and I don't know what effect she was trying to create but it came across as weird wailing. Would definitely have had Jyoti in the six chosen. Harpreet outshone everyone, especially in the 2nd performance. And he is always in tune and in key. I agree totally that the format of the show doesn't work for me! We might have one-song wonders in the finals without knowing it. And it is hard to keep up with who is in and who is out....you cannot follow a contestant consistently.

	Hi Shree I tried to register, but I am still waiting for the email. So I will comment as a guest till then... Some general thoughts ... I wish srgmp did not have viewers voting as to who is in/out. The aam-janta can fall for a cute smile rather than a powerful performance. Or vote based on a community or region. If my bhanja was performing, I would vote him even if he did not sing... Some singers voted to victory by our music mastreos - Sunidhi Chauhan, Shreya Ghosal, Kunal Ganjawala. Some "singers" voted by viewers - That first Indian Idol (forgot his name) and the second - Sandeep something. srgmp2005 winner Debojit. I remember the second IIdol, Sandeep, had pura Rajasthan voting for him. How nice ! Makes one wonder are we fighting elections ??? C'mon honestly, think before you vote... would you pay to listen to the person you vote? I would pay to listen to Sunidhi but not Sandeep. Wouldnt listen to him if HE paid ME. We should let the judges decide. I liked Ashaji's critisism. She knew what she was talking about. I did not find any controversy in her eliminating the people she did. I have years of classical music training (I am south indian ) to judge without bias... and I agreed with Ashaji. Having confessed that I have classical music experience, I have this to say about the pakistani singers : They have a certain unique quality about their voice and their attitude towards music in general that makes them stand out. They sing with a lot of heart. So even if they go a little off tune, they throw the voice and sing with passion which compensates the mistakes. Take Atif Aslam for example... I have never heard another singer go so out of tune as him, but I love his songs and play them over and over...
