Mini Mathur, minus Hussein, began the first elimination round by showing a clip of the contestants voting for who they thought should be out.

So let’s review the scoreboard:
Puja: 5
Richa: 4
Charu: 2
Smita: 1
Prashant: 1
(I hope everyone noted that Puja and Richa voted for themselves)
By this time, Puja was in tears and she was called on the stage because she was in the bottom four. Mini asked Puja whether she thought she really sang so poorly that the contestants are voting her out of the competition.
Puja said that she’s really happy that they have proven to be her real friends. “I really did sing very badly yesterday. I’ve never missed the tempo in my life and I missed it yesterday. I also thought it was wrong. That’s why I said yesterday that it’s my fault. And they deserve it more than I do.”
Okay, I have something to say here. I know a lot of people have crapped on Puja for her attitude and whatever else they think she has from the severely skewed clips of her they see on-screen. But I hope people recognize how brave she is for dealing with everything she has and still having enough sense to admit when she’s wrong. So my message to the people: stop being jerks to her and let her do what she does best – sing.
Then Mini asked the judges who they thought was the weakest:
Udit Narayan – Richa
Alisha Chinai – Jolly
Anu Malik – Richa
Javed Akhtar – Puja
Back to the scoreboard:
Richa: 2
Puja: 1
Jolly: 1 (Really we don’t need any further proof that Alisha is a horrible judge, but she just makes life 10 times more difficult for herself. I think she’s mad that they couldn’t keep Suhit in but took Jolly. And plus, she has to dislike someone. If Smita doesn’t give her enough reason, she has to find the next best candidate. So let’s just take out all the pent up frustration on Jolly. Seriously Alisha, get real!)
Then Richa was called on to the stage because she was also in the bottom four. Mini also asked Richa why she voted for herself. Richa was in such a state that she couldn’t even speak.
Then we moved on to the remaining 11 contestants, two of whom would join Puja and Richa in the danger zone.
Chang and Smita were safe.
Deepali and Prashant were safe.
Abhishek was safe.
Amit Paul was safe. Mini actually called him up on stage and everyone thought he was in the danger zone. But then she said, you’ll have to shake my hand and go back because you’re safe. Anuji about went into cardiac arrest and said that thank God Amit was safe. He told Mini she would have to stop shaking people’s hands! LOL.
Then we moved on to Emon, Ankita and Parleen. Mini said that one of them was safe, and that person was Ankita. (Okay, now I almost went into cardiac arrest here. What? Emon? In the bottom four? You’ve got to be kidding me.) But then Mini saved my life by saying that she didn’t tell the whole story because Emon was also safe. Whew!!!
Parleen, Charu, and Jolly were left. From them, two of them were in the bottom four. Jolly was declared safe. Parleen and Charu were in the bottom four. (Here I will note that this is the first time Deepa’s rating system has been an exact representation of the people’s voting pattern. It’s a fluke, I tell you!)
Charu was told that she could go back because she was safe. That left Puja, Richa, and Parleen. Parleen was also sent back.
Then we moved to the judges for their opinions, beginning with Alisha (who said Jolly was the weakest. I’m still not over that).
Alisha that it will be really sad because Puja is such a powerful singer. “So she had an off day and went off tempo, but she has performed consistently well and has a strong voice. Richa does sound immature and that’s the thing that we always admired about her. She has gotten to this point because we thought it was unique. Either way, it’s hard. ”
Mini asked Javedsaab and Anuji if it would have made a difference for both of them had they participated two years later. Anuji said, “Now, it’s no longer a matter of being 17, 18, or 19 years old. I’ve said over and over again that this is the galas. If Richa’s slight lisp would go away, she’s a very good singer. But if you want to ask me, I would not want Puja to leave because she’s a terrific singer. I was disturbed when she didn’t sing well. Her mind is off somewhere else. These contestants are taking their abilities for granted, but that shouldn’t be the case. Puja is a very good singer and Richa can improve in one or two years. But I would be shocked if Puja left today.”
Javedsaab, always the voice of reason and wisdom, pointed out that Richa’s shortcomings are not things that she can control. If we say that she has the voice of young girl, what can she do, not stay young anymore? (Javedsaab, you’re a genius! Now I know why Shabhanaji is fida over you!)
Alisha agreed, saying how can you work on something that is so natural. That is the thing that Anuji loved about her. (Wow, the first normal opinion she’s had in a while)
Anuji responded by saying that because of her they cannot ignore the other talent that is there. (Thanks for stating the obvious, Sherlock)
Again, the oh-so-reasonable Javedsaab said that it makes no difference if they fight over it. There is no need for discussion. (Right on Javedsaab!)
And finally, Mini announced that Richa was out. By this time, the girl was sobbing. She received a standing ovation from the judges, which Javedsaab pointed out is no small feat for someone who is her age.
Then Richa performed for the last time to Dil Hai Chhota Sa. The other contestants joined her on stage and pretty much sang her last song for her because she was crying too much to sing it on her own.
It was really sad to see her go in such a manner. I could soundly criticize her for much of her behavior during Indian Idol. But at the end of the day, it doesn’t matter because there is nothing more heartbreaking than seeing a little girl’s dreams shattered. So what I will say is that I hope Indian Idol has taught her many valuable life lessons and that I hope she will take those lessons and become someone truly great in the future. Alvida young Richa!
You know I DO NOT get one thing about the judges, when they selected Richa, didn't they notice her lisp? Didn't they know she was sixteen? Didn’t they understand that she was not a mature singer? Of course, they did and if they didn’t they would be the worst kind of judges! So if they already knew that – why did Annu Malek harp on that? This is almost akin to AI judges selecting Sanjaya – I said almost!
Of all the contestants shown during the auditions, Richa stood out the most! The fact is her behaviour towards Prashant was blown out of proportion and although many went ranting about how bitchy she was, I sincerely believe that she was just not that worldly to understand tact because she was young! Many said that she should have acted, but here’s where I disagree, I would prefer an honest reaction than a put-on! What’s the point though, the so-called bitch is gone! Pick a new villain!
The end was too touching and I think very few would have rejoiced her exit and here’s why – she NEVER acted!
Regarding Annu Malek, he is trying so hard to be Simon!
Note to Mr Malek,
You sir are no Simon Cowell! You cannot even articulate a sensible thought! You need to know what you want to say, even if it is in sarcasm or honesty!
His rudeness makes him look like a perfect tool! By the way, did anyone catch a glint of sarcasm in Javed Saab’s praises for Annu? I was a bit confused about him supporting Annu so bloody much, but then I noticed that he was over-doing it! Well played Javed Saab!
Back to the buffoon, his rant about Deepali’s singing – Oy! Good God Man, just say that it was not believable that an eighteen year old, can sing a song convincingly about motherhood, when she is not a mother yet! I agree some cannot sing songs like these from the heart without knowing the feeling personally! It is almost like a guy singing the song – he’ll never know! Just like gals would never know what it feels like getting kicked below the belt!
And last but not the least, Abhishek and his disclosure, I am sorry; I found the thing way beyond my comfort level! It was filmy and it almost became a joke! Interestingly enough, his biological mother told him about his adoption after he was part of the competition, how many thing that the one crore contract played the part? – Raise your hand! I mean what else is one supposed to think here? Why now? Why not in private after the competition or earlier? Also, the way Abhishek screamed his love, I almost cringed! Look, I am a sappy kinda guy, I see more chic-flicks than any guy I know – so mush is great, but honestly this episode was borderline horrific than emotional, I mean come on, the guy is in intense pressure situation and his adoptive parents have not revealed anything to him and this is the time one chooses to tell him about it! Say it with me – HORRIBLE!
I don’t blame Abhishek at all; I blame the producers for airing such a thing! Even if the birth mother’s intentions were noble, the timing makes it sound so sordid and frankly, after knowing such a huge deal about one’s life, the fact is a person is too vulnerable and I can bet my behind, Abhishek will regret the fact that this was beamed all over the world!

I was really sad to see Richa go, mainly because of all the criticism she has received. Truly so many others have had many worse performances and weak singing. Anyway, I do hope she doesn't lose heart and works and trains more: we should have fine singer in a few years.
Javedji's rating just keeps going up and up for me.
I don't trust AnuM's opinions, whether they be praise or criticism because they change with wind, or with the programme's needs.
What is this nonsense about being too young to sing mother songs for Deepali blah blah? At that rate Lata M should have never sung at 15? 16? Barsaat songs, for instance. And since she has never married or had children, we can wipe out the vast majority of her career right here. Silly arguments.
And on the theme of Lata, I was thinking of a song that would really test the good female voices that are left (Deepali, Puja , Charu). When I was a kid it would be Rasik Balma as one of the of the most demanding songs re: scale. Nearer in time could be "Ae mere sanam" for extremely expressive or "Meri sanson ko". Now this last would be a real test for me. I wish someone would sing it in this II3. Any other suggestions?

Later the viewers are shocked to witness that Richa has managed to drown everyone in her salty sorrows except for Jaaved Saab. Jaaved saab (intelligent as he is) had used Alisha as a life boat (since he realized very early that she is full of *hot* air) to preserve himself.
On a serious note, I will miss all the unintended comedy the bratty Richa provided.
I hope Amit, Chang, and Ankita make it to the top 5.
this was fairly good show. it looks like finaly people from india are voting out for right singers based on their last performance. i hope it continues that way. last two indian idols were heart aches.
next year i hope they don't bring alisha at all. she is very bias.
Now i have a serious doubt.....All the remaining contestants are good enough to be the winner....I mean all 12......We all know that they are way way better than sandeep and Abhijeet.......So whats the point in watching the show?????? And sprout you wouldnt have done a good job covering this II....I mean with Janta voting out the correct contestants and Judges bringing back Anki over suhit whom will u vent ur frustration out on sproutie?????

The fact is I did not have any problem with Deepali’s singing! Annu did!
If you read my point – I gave Annu a benefit of doubt and said that SOME cannot sing such songs with required emotions!
Since you mentioned Lataji, let’s go back in history, shall we? Lataji had to sing professionally at a very young age, because her father Master Dinanath died an untimely death in utter poverty after his film studio went under! Lataji raised all her siblings as her own children, because Mai Mangeshkar was always under the weather in the initial stages of Lataji’s career! Lataji still is more of a mother figure to the Mangeshkar household than an elder sister and barring Ashaji and maybe Meenaji, the entire Mangeshkar clan resides with Lataji even today! And frankly you do not have to conceive and give birth to a child to know motherhood! That said; it is rather ridiculous to compare Lataji to any singer, because I don’t think we would ever know any other singer, who would be as great as Lata Mangeshkar is!
It isn’t a silly argument – because when you talk about Lataji’s career, you are forgetting that the songs she sang so beautifully were filmed on other actresses playing whatever role! And such songs about motherhood work for ‘some’ playback singers, because of that precise reason – they are filmed on actors playing the mother! If Lataji had to appear on screen as a mother at a very young age to sing a song about motherhood (I don’t think she sang any such songs when she was a fresher), does one really think, it would have worked? I very much doubt it!
Let’s make a little thing clear, Indian Idol like it or not, is a show where appearances matter, it is as much a visual show as it is about singing! Deepali sang the song beautifully, but it did make me question her choice! And when Annu is telling her that she sang without any emotions or did not sing from the heart, what is he talking about other than the matter I am yapping about?

I was surprised with emon when he picked up Prashant for the vote out. I think Emon is either getting scared of him or wants the regional votes cause both are from the same area.
Prashant was not upto the mark for the song but it was not bad as of Parleen or Richa or even Emon himself.
Love the reviews and comments But why pick on Parleen, I did think he was so sweet helping Ms Aneja stand up and sing....of course it helps that the Masti Boy is so fine.

Yes, Parleen was sweet in the last elimination round. I guess we'll just have to fasten our seatbelts-from now on the elimination rounds are mostly going to be heartbreaks (as some talented person is going to be booted out). All the contestents do have to put their best foot forward (and that does not necessarily mean dancing foot!) because the competition is intense.

while waiting for the review of this saturday's episode; there was one singer yesterday who was out of tune all the time: as pointed out to me by a 13-year old with 6 years' training in western classical music, with an exceptional "ear" for notes.
It is someone who is has a lot of fans, even among the judges.

indian idol judges and contestants should watch a recording of Voice of india...pls learn somthing from them..but i really appreciate Javedsaab's comments..it's really honest n realistic...i think Alisha gets over excited..n AnuM..try to be Anu Malik..not Simon...good luck Chang ...u really rock..n smitha..keep working hard...all the best to all the gals n guys...thanks
I wonder why an arrogant and stupid person like anu was picked up for the second time to be a judge of one of the most popular reality shows. He is arrogant because he is good in hurting the sentiments of the contestants. He is stupid because he says Richa sounds like a child but they (judges)are the ones who selected her. Not only that his coments are biased.I guess he vents his anger at those contestants who refuses to touch his dirty feet. to make this show more popular Anu must be shown the door because janta do not agree with his negative comments. He is the sportspoil of this beautiful program.
I guess richa should not be out because she is a wonderful singer.But as for her age she couldnot do anything. I think prashant should be there in richa's place
