I am extremely sorry for this very late post for last weekend . I had drafted half way through and then got so tied up with work. Without any more delay here we go...
The show started where it had left off last episode -- the debate on whether to have Aneek and Abhijit in the Brahmastra round or not. Finally the mentors had the boys sing and then they would decide. Aneek sang ‘In dino’ from the movie ‘Metro’ and really impressed everyone. Himmesh was reminded of Vinit, last year’s Sa Re Ga Ma Pa finalist. Abhijit sang’Yeh Hawaayein’ from the movie ‘Parineeta’. Ismail Darbar wanted Abhijit in his gharana. After all the wait, the mentors decided that these two should get direct entry to the angipareeksha, final round. But who will get to go in which gharana was to be decided by today’s guest judge. The judges, Sunny Deol and Anil Sharma were introduced with a prelude of their movie songs sung by all the finalists along with host Aditya. Coming to this show was also a medium to promote their new movie ‘Apne’ in which the Deol family has worked together for the first time. It’s no surprise that the theme for the day was Punjabi flavored songs.
Kicking off the evening was Harpreet singing ‘Kawa Kawa’ from the movie ‘Monsoon Wedding’.Harpreet, how could you even think of singing this song…don’t you know that only Karunya from II2 has the copyright to this song? . Honestly I have heard this song so many times from Karunya that I was not too keen to listen to Harpreet, but let me say Harpreet nailed it and how. I could see a clear distinction in Harpreet and Karunya’s rendition. Harpreet’s was so effortless and added that Punjabi touch to his singing, so much so that Vishal & Shekhar was literally dancing in their chairs. Shekhar saluted Harpreet. Vishal said that a performer is only who can convert his mentors into audiences and that’s what Harpreet did. All the judges and other mentors also were impressed.
Next up was Saaberi. Before she started her performance, Vishal & Shekhar prepared a singing contract for an album with her which they had promised her and Junaid a few weeks back. It was nice to see that VS kept their word and did that in public, unlike Anu Malek who promised every other contestant a singing opportunity but never kept his word for many of them. I am especially sad for Amey’s case. I am still waiting for the day when someone who would give that Amey a chance to sing for them. Sorry, I digress
Saberi sang ‘Tera Rang Balle Balle’ from the movie ‘Soldier’. She was all over the places…most of what I could hear was just screaming and she was out of breath most of the times. I hope, seeing this performance Vishal & Shekhar do not take back their contract. All the mentors, including Vishal & Shekhar, advised her to focus on her singing. Sunny said it in a nice way that everyone has good days and bad days and may be today was Saberi’s bad day
Desh Gaurav was the next contestant and he sang ‘Main Jat Yamla Pagla Deewana’ from the movie ‘Pratigya’. This song has been immortalized by Sunny’s dad Dharam pa ji with his hilarious dance moves. This was a much better performance of Desh Gaurav’s compared to the previous round. Desh confessed that he had prepared this song thinking that Dharam pa ji would be coming to show. But since Dharam pa ji was not there, he requested Sunny to ask his dad to watch this show. Anil Shrama was wondering why there were no fights today, to which Ismail said that there are no fights today in fear of muscle man Sunny deol.
Sunil Kumar sang ‘Chappa Chappa’ from the movie ‘Maachis’. He was good but I don’t know if he was good enough to have people vote for him. Mentors felt that there is that fire lacking in him. Judges were supportive for him and requested the janta (public) to vote for him.
Up next was Sarika and she sang ‘Ni Main Yaar’ from the movie ‘Daag’. I’m sorry; I did not like her performance. It may be because of her tonal quality, but the judges and mentors loved her. If these mahagurus loved it then may be I was wrong; but I’ll still stick to my opinion.
The sixth contestant in the brahmastra was Raja Hassan and he sang ‘Kacche Dhaage’ from the movie ‘Kachhe Dhaage’. I love this song and Raja did not disappoint. I know Vishal & Shekhar has been the most reasonable mentors from the pack; when Mussarat or Mauli used to sing songs from one genre or similar kinds of songs, Vishal was not too happy with it, but Raja also has been singing similar kind of songs and has not shown much variety. I think they should bring up this point. Folks, don’t get me wrong…I love Raja but I just felt that they need to be fair to all. Raja had the mentors and judges votes for him, but Ismail also complimented him for bringing beautiful modifications in the song.
It seems Sunny had been to Raja’s school in Bikaner (reminds me of someone!) when Raja was a kid and Raja had got an opportunity to hold Sunny’s hand. After that Raja kept showing off to his friends saying Sunny’s famous dialogue from the movie ‘Damini’ –‘Yeh dhai kilo ha haath’. Raja requested Sunny to say that dialogue once more and Sunny complied.
It was now time to have send Abhijit and Aneek to a gharana and that would be decided by the judges who would pick out gharana names for each of them. But before that Abhijit performed Sunny deol’s ‘Main Nikla’ from the movie ‘Gadar-Ek Prem Katha’. Aneek sang ‘Pyar Karke’ from the movie ‘Pyar Ke Side Effects’… Aneek is also growing in my favorite list. This was a risky song choice and he could have messed it up bigtime, but instead he had the audience, Vishal, Shekhar, Himmesh dancing away. Vishal was thoroughly enjoying and whistling.
At the end of Aneek’s performance, Himmesh was requesting the judges to pull out his gharana’s name first so that he could choose Aneek in his gharana. Himmesh’s prayers were answered and he got to select the contestant. Needless to say, he chose Aneek. Although Ismail wanted Abhijit, he got selected by Bappi da’s Josh gharana.
The show ended with Himmesh and Anil Sharma wishing each other for their movie ‘Aap Ka Suroor’ and ‘Apne’ respectively and Himmesh singing ‘Dekhoon Tujhe Toh Pyaar Aaye’
Once again my apologies for the delay.
Be tuned for Deepa's coverage of the show in the next episode.
No way Harpreet can reach near to Karunya,s voice. In fact any participant of Zee are not still near to Karunya,s voice also.It was bad luck of Sony not to get selected corrct Indian Idol & shows clearly in Indian Idol III quality.karunya is recording his own album in Hindi & recently touring USA.4th time in one year.Talent never gets hide.It is very good lesson to voters of India
I agree with ur opinion on Sarika. I really didn't like the way she sang this song. I kept comparing her to when Himani sang this song in the last challenge and she could not match up. Maybe the judges were just being nice to her so that she wouldnt get sick again and faint.... ok, i know, i'm being mean.
Karunya"s classical flavour & high pitch is missing.I am surprised why any song is not suitable to his celber. He is most talented singer. His voice is not used properly in album
Yup Guyz I've listened to karunya'z nu album its not so gr8!.....
its aint matched 2 karunya'z voice strength¬.......but will hope he'll make his fans happy by his romantic numbers!......
Don't mind me, I'm just a guest.
