Indian Idol 3 - Shabana Azmi Shines As The Guest Judge!

There are two things that no Indian can live without, one is Cricket (the game, not the insect, although I prefer the later, but then again I am not exactly Indian) and other is Bollywood! Indian Film is like a religion and Indian Film Actors are like Demigods and in some cases, Gods! And extreme fanaticism is not really considered weird, when it comes to Cricketers and Film Actors! Everyone has their own Film Idol (or should I say Idols?) and so it was a good idea to have a Night dedicated to the 11 Finalists’ Favourite Film Actors! Some might not know that although majority of Indian Movies come under the musical genre (although that’s an incorrect generalization), the actors are not singers like in Hollywood and they lip-sync the songs, which are rendered by brilliant playback singers!
Anyway, in the Third Gala of Indian Idol 3, the 11 remaining contestants sang the songs picturized on their favourite movie stars and the show started with a clip of all the contestants enacting clichés of Bollywood films (by that I mean violence) with the message that everyone was ready to go to extremes to be the next Indian Idol, but the end of the clip came with a twist, where Mr Annu Malek shot the last contestant standing – if there was any proof needed to prove that Mr Malek thinks that the show is all about him, this wouldn’t be the only proof we’d get tonight!
This week, I thought I’d try something new, because last week, after I was brilliantly complimented and was informed that I was as trashy and filmy as Shobhaa Dé circa Stardust Days, I thought that I should make most of it, because the fact is readers (and they say reading is going to obsolete) come here to be entertained and if trash and Stardust works, who am I to argue with anything? Right? Right! Ok, so the new thing – I am going to write short notes to each contestant this week and let’s see how y’all react to my mails! Fasten your seatbelts!
This is Indian Idol 3 – Bollywood Stars Night!
I must say I have fallen madly in love with Mini Mathur! She is coolness personified and for me to compliment Mini like so is a very huge deal, because last year, I was her harshest critic! Hussain is an adorable addition to the show and the banter between Mini and Hussain is really funny, because it is darn cute!
Anyway, Annu Malek, Alisha Chinai and Udit Narayan were in the judging chairs, while Mini drew attention to the fact that Javed Akhtar Saab was absent due to other commitments! I’ll say, hobnobbing with Hillary Clinton is a better commitment that seating next to Annu Malek! So anyway, instead of Javed Saab, the guest judge was his extremely talented wife, actor par excellence, social and political activist, humanitarian, multi-award winner, the great Shabana Azmi!
I have a great amount of awe and respect for this woman, because I think with the exception of Smita Patil, no other female actor in India has managed to act so effortlessly and naturally in Indian Movies! They showed a clip of her movie, “Morning Raga” in which she had to lip-sync to Carnatic Classical Songs and for that she had to take training and had given an awesome performance as always! Mini mentioned that many Indian Music Maestros including Pandit Ravi Shankar had called her to congratulate her for doing a stellar job, to which Shabanaji said that she had worked really hard and for that she was rewarded by such greats!
I can write about Shabanaji forever, but we need to get on with the show… but I surely can suggest that to know a different genre of Indian Films, one must watch Shabanaji’s earlier works, one would be really amazed!
One thing that did bother me a bit was that the other three judges did not even bother to stand up when she entered; I mean an artiste of Shabanaji’s calibre deserved at least that much courtesy, but oh well!
So now let’s get on with the singing…
First Contestant was Abhishek Kumar
His Idol – Abhishek Bachchan
The song he rendered – “Dus Bahane Karke Le Gaya Dil”
Dear Drama King Abhishek,
Well! Your performance was not really that good, neither was it really that bad! It is my perception that you have slipped a bit in last two galas! You have a wonderful voice, but you really need to choose the songs more carefully! Song selection marred your performance today! I have to agree with Shabanaji that your performance lacked the required energy! It is my belief that if you choose a song like “Dus Bahane”, you have to perform till you drop, because that’s the song’s selling point! It is a high energy performance based song and if the energy drops, the charm drops as well! Don’t listen to Annu, because his judgement is not always accurate, you need to focus or you’d be out in no time! I wouldn’t be surprised if you land in Bottom Four, but then again, I don’t really know your fan base strength! So Good Luck!
P.S. Cut your greasy hair!
My Verdict – 6/10!
_
Second Contestant was Smita Adhikari
Her Idol – Rekha
The song she rendered – “Salaam-E-Ishq”
Dear Dear Smita,
What can I say? Ok, the song you chose was like taking a mammoth risk and here’s the reason, the song is an institution of sorts and most Indians know the song by heart! I will be honest with you, I was a little under-whelmed, because of all the gals, I thought that you had the most melodies voice and your performances during the marathon runs were outstanding, but coming to the galas, I have always detected some flaws in everything you have sung! I wouldn’t say that you were awful, because you were not, but I thought that you couldn’t give the required finishing touches to your notes in the higher octave! Here’s one thing I think you must consider, when you are singing Lata Mangeshkar songs, please make sure you sing in a key lower than hers, because only Lata Mangeshkar could sing effortlessly in that high key! I was frankly impressed that you did not experience shortness of breath much in the second verse as it was extremely difficult to execute! I sincerely hope you do not land in Bottom Four, but knowing the pattern of voting, you just might do that! I will be sorry if you leave after this performance! So I wish you the Best!
My Verdict – 7/10!
_
Third Contestant was Charu Semwal
Her Idol – Sushmita Sen
The song she rendered – “Mehboob Mere”
Dear Baby-Gal Charu,
It is never easy to face harsh criticism and I cannot even imagine what it must be like to get such severe criticisms on International Television, but what I love about you the most is the fact that you do not go for pity votes! Your performance in last two galas was rather disappointing, but Baby-Gal, WHAT A FABULOUS COMEBACK! Your singing wasn’t perfect, but what I loved about your performance was the fact that you made the song your own, the way you used voice modulation was rather entertaining and I don’t care what Alisha says, I thought you did a much better job than the last two galas and I sincerely wish that you gain back your lost confidence and start singing like you did during the marathon! I am keeping my fingers crossed for you, because I know you have it in you!
My Verdict – 7/10!
_
Fourth Contestant was Parleen Singh Gill
His Idol – Hrithik Roshan
The song he rendered – “Sitaron Ki Mehfil”
Dear Sexy Parleen,
Apparently, I am very gay for you, because according to some, a guy cannot call another guy ‘sexy’ without being gay! Now, after reading this note, some might think and even say that I am harsh on you, because I am jealous of you and more importantly, I am saying what I am going to say, because I can’t have you!!! Poor me! And you thought that Indian Idol was about Annu Malek! HA! Ok, getting serious, you seem like a really nice guy, but unfortunately you are really not proving to be Idol worthy! You are a great performer, but I will repeat myself, when it comes to singing, you have always ranked in low to above average categories. The performance was rather below average tonight! Your throw was off, your enunciations were bad and it was a karaoke performance! I think if you survive getting eliminated tomorrow, you should really concentrate on your singing much more than performing, please prove me wrong by singing so well that I have to eat an humble pie! It was rather heartbreaking seeing your face during the critique; I felt for you, I really did! You have all the qualities required to be star, just start singing well! Please! I will be surprised if you dodge Bottom Four tomorrow, but knowing how strong your fan base is, you just might evade it!
My Verdict – 4/10!
_
Fifth Contestant was Puja Chatterjee
Her Idol – Kajol
The song she rendered – “Tujhe Yaad Na Meri Aayi”
Dear Sweet Puja,
I love your voice! And I loved the way you started tonight; it was a very nice performance! I don’t completely agree with Shabanaji regarding the missing angst in your performance, because considering the fact that you managed to sing convincingly, I thought you did just fine, but yes, I do agree with Shabanaji that certain songs need the maturity that comes with age and experience! Anyway, I think you have a very nice tone and though your voice is child-like, I think it’s high time that some songs picturised on teenaged female actors are rendered by teenaged playback singers, no offence to the veterans, they do a great job! Oh yeah, you looked very pretty tonight! By the way, I don’t think you have anything nasal in your voice, so don’t fret!
My Verdict – 7.5/10!
_
Sixth Contestant was Prashant Tamang
His Idol – Akshay Kumar
The song he rendered – “Adaa”
Dear Respectable Prashant,
I am risking shaking a hornet’s nest, but I hope you will understand! Here’s the deal, I know you have the strongest and possibly the most passionate fan base, but I agree with Udit, you need to grow! You have an unusual voice, and usually you sing well, I do have apprehension about the nasal quality of your voice, but singing with a minor nasal twang is hardly a crime these days, Himmesh made millions singing through his nose and even the new song of Abhijeet Sawant is from Reshammiya School of music! And I know when Abhijeet fans will read this, they will pounce on me, but before they do that I think that they should first listen to his new song and then tell me if I am wrong! Anyway, my point is Prashant, the way you sing – maybe it’s the song selection, you make all your performances sound the same! It is getting way too monotonous and I think you need to choose songs that would highlight different facets of your voice! Take a lesson from Ankita! If your fan base wants you to be the next idol, you should respect their wishes and become a fantastic singer! Ok, I agree with Shabanaji that the show must go on, and hence I really was not too happy that you gave an excuse. Although I know you were asked! Sometimes, it is best to admit that you messed up and move on… Well, I don’t need to tell you that I did not like your performance, but I can’t fathom the reason why Annu has been so hard on you since last two galas! I don’t think you will feature in Bottom Four, but if you do and if you get eliminated, your fans are going to cry BLOODY MURDER!
My Verdict – 4/10!
_
Seventh Contestant was Ankita Mishra
Her Idol – Urmila Matondkar
The song she rendered – “Chamma Chamma”
Dearest Awesome Ankita,
My God! Ankita, I am so glad that the judges chose you, because you have proved that you can only get better! I agree that sometimes your singing takes a backseat thanks to the performance, but tonight you did an awesome job! I can see why Udit thought you started rough, but I think he failed to realize that you edited the beginning of the song and started with the last line of the intro, before moving in for the kill! I don’t think anyone performs like you on the stage. You ooze confidence and you know how to please the crowd! By the way, great choice of song, even the firangs would know this song, thanks to Moulin Rouge! I can’t wait to see what you do next! Keep it up!
My Rating – 9/10!
_
Eighth Contestant was Meiyang Chang
His Idol – Saif Ali Khan
The song he rendered – “Woh Ladki Hai Kahan”
Dear Cute Chang,
I finally figured it out, you don’t look anything like Hiro of Heroes, but you are as cute as he is! You looked quite dapper in that tux and what a great boost that you are Shabanaji’s favourite! I will admit I love all the songs from “Dil Chahta Hai”, but I sincerely think you messed up by choosing this song and the reason is this is a duet! You managed to edit the song well, but then you had to repeat the lyrics! It was surprising choice, because you could have chosen songs of Amitabh Bachchan, Salman Khan, etc if you couldn’t find a good Saif solo! Anyway, you sang well, but you could have done much better! And what was with the rose? I mean what’s up between Deepali and you? I mean first y’all do that God awful cough drops skit (I so feel your pain) alone in the car and then you give her a rose? What’s going on? Ok, I am not the kind of person who thinks red roses are only meant for the beloved, but I think the Indian majority is! Aww! And you looked so crushed when you got the critique! Don’t worry, I think many like you, you’ll be safe! Oh and one more thing, LOVE CAN WAIT!
My Verdict – 8/10!
_
Ninth Contestant was Deepali
Her Idol – Madhuri Dixit
The song she rendered – “Mera Piya Ghar Aaya”
Dearest Dynamite Deepali,
Deepali, I could care less if your eyebrows created a third eye on your forehead after tonight’s performance! You blew my mind and rendered me speechless! My God! You were so good that I almost felt that I was part of a historic moment! I think in Indian Idol history, this would be the golden performance, which people would talk about in the future! You actually managed to teach Ankita how to do it right! Your voice was mellifluous and your diction as well as enunciation were perfect! I loved your expressions, I loved the fact you tried to infuse the essence of Madhuri in your performance! I am so happy that all the judges loved your performance, because I sincerely thought that Annu would pee on the parade and make me want to strangle him! I take back all the things I said about your brows; you deserve better things than that! I am so freaking proud of you! Keep up the great work! Oh by the way, I loved the way Shabanaji pulled your leg about Chang!
My Verdict – 10/10!
_
Tenth Contestant was Emon Chatterjee
His Idol – Shahrukh Khan
The song he rendered – “Khaike Paan Banaraswala”
Dearest Demoralized Emon,
Sigh! I have to say a few things to you! First, let me just tell you what I did not like about your performance; I thought that you were singing with a lisp, at least that’s what it sounded like. Also, because you were singing the way you were singing, I think you managed to gather loads of saliva in your mouth, which caused that break in singing! I am actually glad that the saliva did not enter the wind pipe or else you would have choked and coughed uncontrollably! That cleared, I will say this, even on a bad day, you are far superior than most boys in the competition, to an extent most gals as well! I did not think you strayed from singing in tune, nor did you mess up singing in tempo. I just cannot believe how rude Annu was! You are not over-confident and I think Annu has a vendetta against you! I mean seriously, what the @#%^ does he think will happen if he keeps bringing this up every freaking week? Last week, he said that he was surprised that you were in Bottom Three and pray ask him, who sent you there, but him? The SOB loves to build people up to tear them down! Please don’t explain, nor take this too seriously! The other judges fought for you and I think that says a lot and when Mini asked him what you did wrong, he could only answer you sang out of tune – which is a blatant lie! If you land in Bottom Four, you’ll know who to thank and if you get eliminated, I swear I will lose all my faith in voting people, who have made sensible choices of elimination so far! Please don’t lose the light in your eyes! I must admit though, Puja’s reaction to your criticism was interesting to note!
My Verdict – 8/10!
===
I have to say that Shabanaji set Annu right, by saying, “Don’t demoralize Emon, if you think he is capable and can do better by doing something different, motivate him!” and guess what Annu replied? “Emon is demoralising me, by singing so badly!”
I am usually a lover, not a fighter, but seriously I wouldn’t mind smashing Annu’s face!
Anyway, back to the show…
===
Eleventh Contestant was Amit Paul
His Idol – Aamir Khan
The song he rendered – “Nasha Yeh Pyaar Ka Nasha Hai”
Dear Derby Champ Amit,
What do you know; the comeback kids are really fantastic! Amit, I am so glad that the junta chose you as the Wildcard and I am gladder that the dark horse just might be the Derby Champion who wins the crown! I will admit, I am not a fan of the song you chose, but man, you can sing medical dictionary and make it sound awesome! However, don’t let all the praises go to your head, because the very person who praised you to the seventh sky has the cruel ability to crush you with his words, you know who I am talking about! If you continue singing this well, the crown is yours, unless of course the unconventional looks come in the way! Unfortunately, after last year I am very aware of how the voters think, last year I read somewhere that people voted for Sandeep, because Karunya was not fair or good looking! I am not kidding! And I thought Karunya looked nice! Getting once more during competition is a great deal, but did you notice the fact that Annu rained on your parade by singing along, even though he didn’t know the words! Doesn’t it prove that according to Annu Malek, Indian Idol is all about him? Anyway, Great Job!
My Verdict – 10/10!
_
Shabanaji told the 11 Finalists that in competition, one must have winning spirit and must fight for the win. One must be like an Olympian, whose goal is always the gold and not silver!
Ok I am not going to rant, because it’s useless! All I know is someone should get Annu Malek, Abhijeet from Voice of India, Himmesh Reshammiya and perhaps Ismail Darbar from SRGMP and make a Reality Show called Titanic Egos! The aim would be which ego sinks first! Any takers?
My pick for Bottom Four –
Parleen, Prashant, Abhishek and Smita!
Who might land in Bottom Four?
Smita, Emon, Charu and Puja (I will dance with joy if this is incorrect)
Should go home – Parleen!
Will go home – Maybe Smita!
Results and more drama by Annu Malek and Abhishek Kumar tomorrow!
Till then…
Ciao!

My My Sprout. You make me proud. This was a fantastic, heartfelt and honest recap and feedback. What's up with Anu Malek. He is loosing it. He is so demeaning/demoralizing to some contestents that I have started liking Alisha!
Sprout, it seems you have a crystal ball-[Results and more drama by Annu Malek and Abhishek Kumar tomorrow!] (or perhaps you know what is coming tomorrow). Performances/judges comments notwithstanding, it looks like Parleen/Prashant will be back.
Last word: Amit's performance was the best (I must confess I have a bias here), however he really sang this song with a lot of maturity. Deepali was fantastic. I was surprised by her performance, singing everyone knows she does well.
Finally, Sprout, it was great receiving this recap so quickly. Keep up the good work.

I seriously cannot believe all that crap Anu threw at Emon! OVERCONFIDENT---how many times do I need to repeat myself, he looks more dejected than Anu Malik without his fake hair! Hello, the boy looked like he was about to cry and please throw me some paisa, allah ke naam pe, bhagwan ke naam pe.
Good lord, Anu is a sadistic clown, who needs to be caged in some asylum before he demoralizes the contestants further
Nough ranting. Ankita is my hot favorite and I am glad ANu has not gotten to her yet!

Excellent recap Sprout.... Loved it...
A few days back we all were missing this jerk right..... If he continues with what he is doing for the last two weeks, I am going to break my TV.... Whatever he said about Emon, it did not make any sense to me.... I don't know what he is listening... Puja is in big big trouble, for standing up for Emon.
Regarding your question about whose ego is going to drwon first, they all are going to drown at the same time.

Nice recap, Sprout Ji.
I hated when Anu Malik was throwing punches against Emon. Not because Emon sang well. It is only because I cannot take this judge comments any more.
With all due respect, I disagree with you on your verdict of 8/10 for Emon. As a layman, I did not like his singing at all. No one can justify this song other than Kishore Kumar. Not even Udit Narayan. Emon made a very bad choice.

Thank You Sprout for a very nice recap and that too in time...I really think that Shabanaji purposefully came to this episode for setting that idiot Annu Malek right by saying what she said. With his "inhuman" voice Annu is daring to sing , that itself proves that he's a nerd. And one more thing that I've noticed about him is that he expects Alisha to do or say only the things that he wants her to do or say..At the present time one cannot expect that from even your most devoted and loyal wife or spouse if better. Alisha can say what she thinks,no? Why should he question that? He even tries to do that with Udit Narayan also. He wants to have the final word apparently!!!

Personally, I detest the fact that Anu Malik has to interrupt Udit Narayan every single time or make mockery of what he has to say. As a viewer, I'm totally disgusted with the way he treats Udit. It's greatness on Udit's part to ignore Anu.
Sprout, I have to respectfully disagree with your assessment and score for Mr. Chang. He was pretty much off-tune and off-key throughout the song.
Sprout, you sure do have a keen eye about the judges unwelcoming of Mrs. Shabana Azmi since neither of them stood up and Mr. Malik didn't put his hands together for her as well. Personally, very disappointing to see those judges not acknowledge and honour her in an appropriate way for what she has done in her social work and for India.

Have you people noticed one thing? When Mr. Annu Shameless Malik sees a beutifully dressed girl, he is not concerned about whether she can really sing or not, but can't help from starting to sing praises for her... Next time Emon should try wearing girls clothes...

Up until last night I have not connected with the contestants (not sure if it's age and they all and they all seem so young) had not touched me. But yesterday Deepali (has always been a favourite of mine) just hit all the spots - she was amazing and then Amit did the same. I would love to hear Amit and Deepali as a duet (sorry Chang).
Emon made a bad choice he is capable of so much more. Parleen has to go he does nothing for me.

Overall good recap, even though Meeow keeps emphasizing that he/she is not 'exactly indian,' not sure what that means.
Emon was very good; Sprout not sure how much you had gone through the vodka bottle to say Chang was an 8/10. He is definitely bottom of the barrell tomorrow.
Shabana Ji was excellent, Alisha was her usually kooky sweet stuff--someone get rid of Anu Malik. Udit Ji needs to yell back at that Anu when he calls him Beta...
Parleen is not going anywhere, the fact he looks so good means he will be back - and as usual the right audience block found him their fav contestant...those are the major voting blocks. Of course it helps to look hot :)
You rock Parleen....Spout is a text book case off knocking what he cannot be hehe....

I knew it! I knew some Parleen fan will say that I am criticising Parleen, because I am jealous of his looks! Such Predictable Response! The great irony is you don’t even know what I look like, but that hardly matters to me, because you just proved something to me, I have managed to irk you so much by criticizing Parleen that you cannot help but insult me every chance you get, because you don’t have any other counter to prove me wrong! It shows how mature you really are! But I would advice you to stop doing that, because if Curlio comes across your posts, she just might do something unpredictable, we don’t really appreciate thinly veiled insults! It was funny the first time, but don’t over-do it!
And if Hotness is the only factor one has to consider while voting, the show should be called India’s Next Model, not Indian Idol!

Although I love Emon, I do agree somewhat that his choice of song was not right (a very difficult selection based on Kishore Kumar's rendition). He should really concentrate on his song selection, diction, & perfomance (singing is always great). He has a lot of potential and seems sweet. Overconfident???? where was Mr. Anu Malik coming from? Perhaps from Mars!

My favorite is Emmon but over the last two weeks I feel he has been singing "articificial" as Udit stated in Gala 2. Another mistake is the songs that he is choosing. He should not have picked that song this week, its not his style and vocal type. He completetly sang it too quickly and in too high a register and his voice cracks at this level. His voice is a 99% match for Sonu Nigam and he should stick to slower Sonu tracks and he will have much better success. The public seems to like him and I hope they overlook these bad performances. But he needs to buckle down and pick better slower and more melodic songs. Look how good Amit did with a slower melodic song.
Also I tend to disagree with your assessment of Charo's performance. I though she was one of the worst. She was completely out of tune (as Alisha stated) in the lower notes. Listen to it again and you will agree. She does not have a voice that matches Sunidi Chauhan's powerful voice and so she too made a mistake in picking that song. She too should pick slower and more melodic songs, like she did in the earlier rounds. But at this point she seems like the weakest in the women, but I think her cute looks will get her futher.

Spout Ji, when you provide feedback and comments on the shows you are doing it because they are in the public domain. This blog here is your show and in the public domain, so you have to now put yourself in that sphere and enjoy our compliments (which are always there) and chappals which will also be there...
And I do think your Chang with his 8/10 is going to be leaving soon - and Parleen will be there :)
Don't flip out just chill - martinis are always better after shaken and stirred, sit back put away the vodka and enjoy the mix you have create hehe its all in good fun! You don't want to do a monologue like Leno or Letterman, you want the spicy give and take of the Daily Show. Meeoooow.

I agree with most of the comments. I found Parleen, Smita, Prashant and Chang to be the weakest. I wasn't too impressed with Ankita, Charu or Puja. Emon definitely wasn't in his element and his song choice was terrible. I mean, of all the SRK songs he could have picked, why choose this one???I HATE Annu Malik for breaking down that kid's spirit. I hope the janta sets him right. Frankly, I have no idea how Udit and Alisha let him talk them down the way he does. Seems to me his frustrations in some other department are getting to him!!!In any case, there is no doubt that Amit and Deepali rocked last night. my pick for bottom three are Smita, Parleen and Prashant. Either Smita or Parleen should go home.
I like the other format better. After all, knowing the contestant's reactions to the judges comments is like a teaser when you don't get to know the actual comments. Sprout please go back to your original format, it was so much more fun to read.

I love the fact that you post your reviews so quickly. I love reading them. I have always thought Amit and Deepali were underrated. Great to see that they are finally getting their due. Emon and Abhishek and Parleen have started looking anxious and underconfident. I don't know what Anu Malik means about Emon being overconfident. I thin Ankita is overconfident - she definately can't match up tp Deepali in talent. Of course one has to give her credit for trying so hard. She seems to really want the title and that sure counts for some points. Chang is charming and sweet and chooses cute songs but ultimately won't be able to match up to the likes of Amit.

Guest said:Spout Ji, when you provide feedback and comments on the shows you are doing it because they are in the public domain. This blog here is your show and in the public domain, so you have to now put yourself in that sphere and enjoy our compliments (which are always there) and chappals which will also be there...
And I do think your Chang with his 8/10 is going to be leaving soon - and Parleen will be there
Don't flip out just chill - martinis are always better after shaken and stirred, sit back put away the vodka and enjoy the mix you have create hehe its all in good fun! You don't want to do a monologue like Leno or Letterman, you want the spicy give and take of the Daily Show. Meeoooow.
Actually, I don’t have a problem with anyone disagreeing with my views, because everyone has a right to an opinion! However, I have to draw a line somewhere, agreed I am in public domain, but this forum is meant for discussing the show and not my personal life! I mean you say I am a gay dude, because I mentioned that Parleen is good looking bloke – how is my sexuality related to the show? How is it relevant? Then you say the writing is trash, ok, I don’t mind that, but again how is that related to the show?
Sorry, I don’t think that being given the rights to feedback and comments entitles anyone to get personal even if it is in jest, when the truth is one does not even know me! If the comments came from someone like Ajay, Deepa, Shona, Uttam, etc who know me, I wouldn’t even bat an eyelid! Read Uttam’s banter in the past, compared to her, your comments are mild!
See, I don’t have any problem with you liking Parleen, you are entitled to have your favourites for whatever reasons, but please bear in mind that I am entitled to criticize him as well! Also, I don’t have anything to say about the fact that you think Chang will leave and Parleen will stay, because that’s your thinking and who am I to challenge that? But yes, if you get personal and attack me without knowing anything – I won’t take it – if that makes me egotistical, so be it! Guest said:I like the other format better. After all, knowing the contestant's reactions to the judges comments is like a teaser when you don't get to know the actual comments. Sprout please go back to your original format, it was so much more fun to read.
The problem is Seema, that using that format is time consuming and most here want instant recaps! I will do one thing; I will go back to last week’s format and present a gist of judges’ comments! Everything depends on what y’all want, so whatever y’all wish will be granted! Thanks for being honest!

Sprout, what makes your recap better than the instant recap on India forums etc is that it has soul to it. I know you will probably get supporting arguments for the instant version as well and it is hard to please all, but I feel reading your recap with all the spice and analysis to it is worth the wait. For instance, I already know the elimination from the India forums website, but that does not stop me from eagerly awaiting your synopsis of the show.
Keep up the writing, and ignore those who call it trashy and take personal stabs at you for telling it like it is.

Seema I agree this was just a transcribe job like you see on Hindi DVDs, it just writes down the dialog in broken firangi thats being spoken on screen. I liked that recap from deepa/depali more masala and less shrill on the personal front! Bring her back please.

I guess everyone now realizes Deepali & Amit have got what it takes, Ankita is a colorful performer (sometimes, literally too), Pooja is a terrific & confident singer in spite of the child-like quality in her voice. As for the others,
Agree wholeheartedly that Emon has a fantastic voice , but I've always felt he sang his songs fast, I recall Alisha noticing it during "Piya re, piya re", Javed Akhtar mentioned this during "Mitwa" and I felt it during "Chand taaron". Well, what's the tearing hurry?
Chang is just average, as someone mentioned, the cuteness and the curiosity factor might take him to top-5 when the singing might get exposed.
Charu looks angelic, so will proceed further in spite of average singing (bring back that "beedi" fervor pls)
Prashant will proceed for some more time due to audience goodwill, he's a wonderful singer and seems to be a good person, but once head to head with the the folks in my first para and Emon, he could get exposed
Abhishek will kind of squeeze in until he can't get any further (while Don was decent, "bachna e haseenon" and "dus bahane" were both undewhelming and needed huge shots of adrenalin
Parleen will go since he chooses songs of identical genre all nice for a karaoke performance and gives him a chance to hit some high notes, but are devoid of depth or nuances, which gives the classical twang to songs that audience so loves
Smitha is out, unfortunately and quite possibly due to the Kolkata explosion in the top-12, but the city & the state has every right to be proud with Smitha, Jolly, Emon, Chang, Prashant coming from her and Puja from the state (nope, I'm not a Kolkotan, but from deep down South). Jolly also had a great and possibly the most adult voice, but song selection ruined her (I shared the same bafflement of the co-contestants when she did that Albeli thing). In case of Smitha, makeover or not, there's a little too much pathos about her.

No please, I prefere Sprouts recaps (nothing personal agains any other reviewers).
Most importantly, the selling point of this blog as all of you must have noticed is the quick recap. There are hardly any comments/interests if the blogs lag 2 episodes behing. It is extremely important to get recaps as quickly as possible for this blog to maintain its sealabilty/credibility.

Hi Sprout,
I appreciate your comments and eagerly wait for the recap every week... its like watching the whole show once again with the same interest..
This is the first time i m giving my comments here... I agree with all your comments and i see Parleen and Prashant to be out of this race very soon....
Its sad to see people getting personal on this..
My favourites are : Deepali, Amit and Chang..
Thanks..

I think my comments have been misinterpreted here. I merely pointed out that I liked the other format better. I think Whether it is Deepa, Sprout, or Uttam, the thing to remember is that these people spend their valuable time and energy to write some really good reviews and comments that are food for a lot of great discussions. Just keep writing guys! I don't care what format you use!
