Sa Re Ga Ma Pa With The Beautiful Vidya And The Funny Sajid
Ajay

This night the show kicked off with Aditya Narayan lip-syncing to "Hey Baby" – the title track of the upcoming movie Hey Baby. I know for a fact that it is a remake of a Malayalam movie Thoovalsparsham – a highly emotional movie with the right amount of comedy to it. Well, Aditay lip-synced it poorly and the contestants performed poorly and that is that . Then the guest judges were introduced - the extremely sweet Vidya Balan and the really funny and likable Sajid Khan. The opening banter by the guests was funny. With that, the show began. The theme for this show was the contestants' favorite singers.
Hit Squad
To my delight this time the show kicked off with the Hit squad. This is my personal favorite gharana. And man, how well they performed…..
First up Junaid – his favorite singer is Sonu Nigam. He sang the very popular number "Yeh Dil" from the movie Pardes. There was a funny moment after this performance when Vidya said that Junaid's energy was good but that a technical evaluation will be done by Sajid. Sajid asked Junaid what was the 3rd line of the song. Junaid found out, with some difficulty, that Sajid said he was brilliant, thus making it clear to everyone that he is not competent to technically evaluate any sort of music. He also said that he will buy Junaid's CD when it released and then said that he will say the same to every contestant. Man, he is a likable guy.
Ismail darbar – 9/10
Himesh - 9/10
Bappida - 9/10
My take is that he sung the song brilliantly with great attitude and energy. There were some minor flaws but that’s easily forgivable . My score – 8/10
Second on stage was Harpreet – his favorite singer is Kunal Ganjawala. His song selection was the very famous and most repeated song in a long time, "Bheege Hont Tere" from Murder. Vidya gave him a "very good" while Sajid said “better than original”. Harpreet confessed that he was terrified of Sajid and was making sure that he wouldn’t be able to catch anything wrong with his performance, to which Sajid said that he caught his Zip. Yeow. Before you get me wrong, he was mentioning about an extra zip. I think Sajid Khan is way more cool than Farah Khan as a judge.
Ismail Darbar – 8/10
Himesh – 9/10
Bappida -8/10
The problem with selecting Kunal's songs is that Kunal has a very unique voice. I felt that Harpreet couldn’t pull it off correctly. Sajid's comment was a bit lenient. I also thought that he messed up at some places which his mentors pointed out though they liked the mood he created. My score – 7/10
Third, and one of my personal favorites, was Raja. His favorite singer (as I knew it would be) – Sukhwinder Singh. His song selection was "Rut Aagayire" from the movie 1947 Earth. Vidya thought that he sang with sincerity. Sajid also gave a very good and then went onto some time-wasting tactics about Raja closing his mouth.
Ismail -10/10
Himesh -10/10
Bappida -10/10
I have no take on this guy. His energy, attitude, singing…..everything was flawless. My Score – 10/10. Then there was a brief banter between Raja and Ismail. The stand-out moment was when Raja said that he wants to sing till his last breath. There was so much sincerity that I believe him. Does that make me naïve? If so, then so be it. I still believe him.
ROCK GHARANA
First up for Himesh's gharana was Mussarat. His favorite singer – Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan (Figures). Song selection – "Sanwre" from the movie Bandit queen. Vidya thought that he sung the song easily which was fantastic. Sajid gave a "very good".
Ismail Darbar – 10/10
Bappida -10/10
Hit it -10/10
Himesh went up to the stage to congratulate Mussarat. Ismail Darbar asked him to repeat the song which he did. Shekhar confessed that he participated in SRGMP 97. All his co-contestants were dangerous (I hope he meant that they were a threat and outstanding artists and Mussarat reminds him of them. Then he came onstage and performed the same song. His voice was shaking in the high pitches but it was a good performance, all in all.
My take is that Mussarat has got a very powerful voice and his diction is superb, but he still needs to improve in his lower notes. My score - 9/10
Next up Joy. His favorite singer – S.P.Balasubramaniam. Song selection – "Aaja Meri Jaan" from the movie Aaja Meri Jaan. His version was so good that Sajid offered him a song n his next film. I did not understand whether that was a joke or not. Vidya gave a "good".
Hit it -8/10
Bappida -8/10
Ismail -9/10
Ismail said that he is giving one point for Assam and Himesh again wasted time and said Vote for Assam. I am getting really irritated with this. If these mentors start behaving like this and a good contestant gets eliminated, then these people will not have a right to say that the public should vote with their brains. They themselves started this crappy thing, for heavens sake.
My view was that Joy sucked. His main problem is that his diction is not clear and he couldn’t connect with the mood of the song completely. Joy's accent made it difficult to understand what he was singing at times. I give him 6/10.
Last for Rock was another of my personal favorite Aneek. His favorite singer – Sonu Nigam. Song selection – "Is Pyaar Ko" from the movie Mujhe Kuch Kehna Hain. Sajid said that he felt that Sonu was singing on stage, Vidya said that he reminded her of sonu singing and his face reminded her of Chintu from Bobby. (I am guessing that she meant Rishi Kapoor. Correct me if I am wrong).
Hit it -10/10
Bappi -10/10
Ismail -10/10
Vishal Shekhar heaped compliments on him saying that he is ready for playback singing, he is versatile and that he is a kick-ass singer.
My take is going to get me killed I am sure. But still I liked Emon's (II3) version of this song better. Both these guys were flawless but Emon made the song his by introducing a little extra which Aneek failed to do. Otherwise, they were at par with each other. I give him 9/10. I deducted one point for his song selection. Sorry.
Then there was a small announcement from Aditya saying that the person with the most female fan following is none other than our own Shekharji. A fan named Megan seems to have made thousands of Webpages for him. He thanked Megan and all his fans. He seems to be such a humble, nice guy. Anyway, back to business.
YALGAAR
First up for Isail Darbaar's gharaana was Amaanat Ali. His favorite singer - Ali Anand. Song selection – "Kuch Mere Dil Ne Kaha" from the movie Tere Mere Sapne. In response, Sajid gave a funny shaayri. Vidya was of the opinion that it was effortless, smooth singing. Amaanat also recited a sweet poem for Vidya.
Hit it -10/10
Bappida-10/10
Himmesh-10/10
My view is that it was a brilliant performance from Amaanat. His connection with the song and the audience has improved a lot. His voice is priceless. My score – 9/10
Next up, the pocket size dynamite Poonam. Song selection – "Taarein Hain Baarati" from Viraasat. Aditya commented that she sung the song so well that he feels she is going to marry. Then there was a clip showing Poonam visiting her sick mother. Then out of nowhere she told a tragic story of how she went without food for three days. Vidya said that she sang well and not to worry. She is going to pray for her and her mom. Sajid said that he had tears in his eyes when he heard this story. Himesh said some nice things (first time I heard him saying other things than how great he, his acting and composition is) and he actually sounded sincere.
Himesh -10/10
Hit it -10/10
Bappida -10/10
My take is that she sung the song well. She delivered pretty good singing with a nice feel. I am totally against her stating this story of hers. She deserves votes, but she should get the votes solely by her performance. Mind you, her performance was good. It is not fair to the other contestants for some people to actually come on stage with such stories. My score – 9/10
JOSH
The last Gharaana to perform – Bappida's Josh gharana. And the first one to perform for this gharana was Abhijeet kosambi. His favorite singer – Hariharan. Song selection –"Chanda Re" from the movie Sapnay. Sajid thought that his singing was fantastic. Vidya thought that he sang beautifully.
Himesh -9/10
Hit it -9/10
Ismail -10/10
Abhijeet took a big risk by trying a Hariharan classic. Me thinks that he didn’t pull it off well enough. Hariharan has the most melodious voice that I have ever heard. Abhijeet did try a lot but I felt it wasn’t good enough. My score – 7/10
Second on stage, the Barbie doll with the most opportunities under her kitty, Sumedha. Her favorite singer – Asha Bhonsle. Song selection – "Aao Husur" from the movie Kismat. Vidya thought that she sang it beautifully with great Ada. Sajid added that she was really beautiful (and I agree with that) and that she sang the song more with her eyes.
Himesh - 10/10
Hit it - 9/10
Ismail - 10/10
I thought she did a good job, and I think that she is the best looking of the lot.
My score – 9/10
Last but not the least – Mauli Dave. Favorite singer – Sunidhi Chauhan. Song selection – "Mast" from the movie Mast. Vidya said that she loved Sunidhi and that she thought no one could sing the song as good as Sunidhi but Mauli did that exactly proving her wrong. Sajid had one word - Mast.
Hit it - 10/10
Ismail - 10/10
Himmesh 10/10
Ismail and Himmesh gave the points after a lot of unwanted drama. I loved Mauli's low notes this time. Her whisper had a husky shade to it. Her higher notes were good too. At some points, my ears felt that she was screaming. Overall, it was a great performance but I felt that she could have done better at some points. My score – 9/10.
One major thing I found funny was Ismail Darbar's face during some of the singing. He had an open-mouthed expression. I think he is shocked that people can sing so well :-). Another thing is that I am getting really irritated with Adityas “Yudhviram”. Talk about overdoing a line. SRGMP seems to be going big on the shades or sunglasses.
My Bottom three would be:
Abhijeet
Joy
Harpreet
Its getting really difficult to choose bottom threes in this show now. I think it was an excellent episode, though not as good as the Salman Khan episode.
Thanks Ajay. Great job. I agree with your bottom three. Every one of these singers have improved so much from their introduction in May.
By Mid June, I wrote most of them off (compared to C2005). But I was wrong. They improved tremendously. Now I feel this bunch is on average better than C2005 singers. Personally for me Hemachandra and Nihira were the best of the lot. But that is my bias :).

LOL
I think u meant Bala coz u quoted him
I'm glad that these contestants are really really good. Compare them to the II3 contestants and you can see the effect that the mentoring has on them. The editing on the show is terrible, but the singing is superb!
I am used to it. Some people do call me Bella until I correct them or Bela.
The US edition is really edited out. I didnt see some of the comments on the show and have to read reviews on india-forums to get the feel of the show.
You are right Bella. Singing is superb on this show. I watch SRGMP for singing and II3 for the fun. II3 seem to be having more fun (except Anu decided to stamp it out), but SRGMP is catching up on that factor.
Most of the remaining SRGMP singers are ready for playback singing, while II3 contestants would need more work before cutting an album or quit their day time jobs.
Congratulations on your articles - you are a natural. Wish we were subscribing to this channel but unfortunately we don't and therefore I have not been able to participate.
thanks for your recap. i agree with your bottom three prediction. i am thinking of same and i think this time joy will go. let's see what happens.
i am really tired of ismile and himesh's coments. are they kissing up to each other. they don't act same as last time. i think himesh sounds humble because of his movie or something.
now it is getting hard to pick bottom three. they are all so good. lots of people do not like mauli. i think she has very unique voice like sunidhi and usha utthap. we don't have very many singers who can sing item songs. mauli may not win but she sure will be until top 4.

Keep it up .....
Someone did ask for the links but i am so sorry i didnt get enuf time to search for it. Will try and get it...Sorry
Ajay, as others have already indicated, you are doing a solid job at capturing the SRGMP reviews. Few points worth mentioning though:
1. The sunglasses donned by Adiya are irritating--last episode Aditya pointed out he has conjenctivities (probably totally mispelled that), which is an eye infection that is highly contagious and is quite disgusting to look at. I would know as one of my roomies had it once, and let's just say I stayed in the library way too often.
2. Sumedha is outstanding---in my opinion, only in terms of her appearance. She resembles Diya Mirza a bit, however her singing never really impressed me. In comparison, Poonam is a much better and refined singer. Sumedha should try her luck in acting. Barbie Doll is a good nickname for her, though the "plastic" connotations won't get her very far:(
3. Aneek with "Is Pyar ko" repeat--I actually agree with you on this one. I too somehow connected more with Emon's version. Sacrilege! hehehhe, well not really. Emon is probably the most talented singer in the II3 lot and Aneek has disappointed me in some of his previous performances.
4. Assam ko vote do--Seriously, someone should sue Himesh and Ismail Darbar from digging up skeletons from the closet! What is wrong with these two?? Their comments should be censored on the show for the unwanted regionalism and factionalism it generates among viewers.
5. Yudhviram--The whole Mahabharat take is getting old. They should just go with a break! Aditya also needs to sound less happy when informing contestants that they have been eliminated and will be sorely missed! Somehow, seems like he is always smiling while kicking them out!
6. Sajid as a permanent judge for II3--how many would like to see Sajid take up his sis's position as the next II3 judge. I think he would give the audiences a good show with his hilarious spin on things, and Anu Malik would have something to cry about for a change:)

I was not talking abt her singing abilities cause i feel she still hasnt shown her range and has been taking songs in her comfort range. Maybe she can go higher, maybe not. No proof eitherways. I was just taking point of her voice and thats an outstanding sweet voice she has. She has the ability to capture the audience with her voice. Though poonam is a better singer i like Sumedhas voice better.
The yudhviram is really really boring now....Real real boring....Thats the main problem with SRGMP...Though the quality of singers is better, the direction and script sucks.....I think someone has already raised the point abt this....And i supported it i think...Aditya is defenitely not a good host.....I think that he is way too young for this....
I would vote for sajid as a Judge....No doubt he would be better than Farah khan and maybe better than udit narayan...He is not making any impact as a judge....
nice reviews dude but lemme ask you one thing Raja's Rut aa gay got 10 and mussarat's saware 9 by you , are u really smart with good music background or its just u. for me if raja gets 10 mussarat is on 100 dude . Raja dont even stand close to dat magic singer Mussarat
Don't mind me, I'm just a guest.
