Well well, for starters this week's Roobaroo episode is following Parleen "Superstar" Gill's shocking elimination last week. So, Mini Mathur spent the majority of the first half asking contestants for their reactions to Parleen's departure. Quite odd that poor Smita Adhikari never got such a teary-eyed farewell. It almost seemed that no one really cared that she got kicked out! Ouchies
First, there was a brief video recaping last week's melodramatic exit, with Parleen noting that it was quite odd that he was kicked out after finally delivering a consistant performance--point noted--followed by "rona dhona" by all the participants (with Parleen's cousin backstage) and finally Parleen (Punjab da puttar) getting blessings from Javed Akhtar.
Mini then went on to ask contestants what they thought of Parleen's exit. Here are some of their reactions:
Emon Chatterjee (Parleen's room partner and "chotta bhai"): Can't really believe he is gone, he was so close to us and the only "performer" in the group, except for Ankita. (Methinks that last note on Ankita was more a "jaan bachao" tactic, hehe, but oh well)
Ankita Mishra: He was my best friend. It will be really hard getting over him. My remaining best friends are Chang and Abhishek. (hehehe, I guess Anki baby and the gals don't really click that well....suspected as much)
Puja Chatterjee: Indian Idol is only a game, we will be friends for life. (Good for you Puja!)
Next up, the contestants were seen performing live in Ahmedabad. Snippets of their performance were shown on screen. Emon was seen in the last clip wearing a gujrati outfit and reading lyrics from the palm of his hand! Dude, did anyone feel like he was preparing for an exam??
Mini went on to ask if it was hard performing on stage. Ankita said she was looking forward to it after Mini branded her the principal of the School of Confidence. Emon noted that people kept talking to him in Gujrati after his song--umm, did people not see him clearly trying to read the lyrics while performing???
The next segment was on the latent talents of the contestants.
************************************
So, how many knew that Meiyang Chang was a good sketch artist? ME ME ME! They revealed as much in previous episodes. Chang proved his talent on stage by drawing a impromptu sketch of Mini looking like Liz Hurley from Bewitched. Me thinks, the sketch was pretty darn good.
Puja can dance. Not that, she displayed any extraordinary dance moves in her clip, but she can definitely move, I guess.
Deepali is naughty. This one was funny. Deepali went around asking random people in the streets who is their favorite Idol, many times prompting them to say her name...cute, really. One dude apparently said his favorite was Deepali, not knowing that Deepali was standing in front of him--how embarassing. Hullo there! How many of you think he actually reads II3 reviews instead of watching the show?..hehehe.
Abhishek Kumar is a good cook! At least he can cook an omlette Well, it would take more than that to impress me, but not a bad start :P
Prashant Tamang is kick *football player. If he wasn't on Idol, he would have loved to represent the Indian footbal team. Good luck on that bro
Finally, Amit Paul can make an awesome cup of chai! Anu Malik, your prayers have been answered--Ek garam chaye ki pyaali ho, koi usko pilaney waala ho...lols.
Then, to end off the Roobaroo segment, the contestants played Antakshari. The Antakshari segment was not much to write home about, but the finale was quite suprising as one chick (Anu) from the audience actually came up and gave Emon a pappi (what she called Jadu ki jhappi), much to his chagrin! hehehheh. He noted that he might have to tell his mom that the Roobaroo show got cancelled To add to the embarassment quotient, poor Emon had to sing Sonu Nigam's "Bijuria"with Anu's name after each line, prompting a lot of laughs. Well, so much for that.
That was the end of the Roobaro Special this week. I would like to give a big holler to the girl with the guts to go up on stage and actually do that! Now, to unleash a fresh wave of kissing fans--amen!
Thanks DeepaIf people like this post, I hope to continue covering the Roobaroo Specials and perhaps upcoming II3 episodes. Of course, I will need inputs from you and Sprout, if I decide to write a review on the II3 performances.
Even though I missed this Roobaroo episode, the recap on this site made me feel like I was there.
I feel a bit sorry for Ankita. She is a quite different from the rest (in her singing style and performance) and they don't really seem to care about her (or feel threatened). Deepali sounds over confident and from previous episodes, I think that she is bit of flirt. Puja is stuck-up because of her so called classical training but she seems to be a nice girl.

Are you kidding...Keep covering the robaro rima...I loved it...ywas funny though you missed the Chang making the cartoon of mini....He seems to be great.....
@guest
Deepali has been this way all throughout sir....I didnt think she was over confident and no i have not seen her flirt till date......Cmmon guys let the gal of 17 year have some fun......These kids are so young that they jell together automatically without keeping in mind our societys view point....That dont make them flirts for heavens sake.....
Hey guys, just wished to add one thing I forgot to include in my post: the Roobaroo special came with a lady psychiatrist to help the contestants deal with the performance/elimination anxiety. The best part was her name--Dr. Hingorani!! Anyone remember this character from Kya Kool Hain Hum.
Well, I just couldn't stop smirking whenever her name was announced. That makes me a goof, and of course she has a beautiful last name=)
It seems this Dr. Hingorani was also the psychiatrist brought in for the contestants on Big Boss, and those people really had issues!! So, anyway, she provided the usual advice of "gossip is part of being a celebrity," and "tell yourself to stay calm and never forget your goal."
Somehow, I didn't feel Hingoraniji's two cents worth of pep talk helped the contestants that much (unless they are having private session with her) apart from assuring the viewers that the II3 producers really care for the contestants sanity--which is always good to know!
