After some wonderful performances by the contestants, the time for eliminations arrived. Aptly, the theme for tonight was sad songs. And it started off with a sad performance by the host Aditya Narayan singinging (or rather syncing to) to the song Dil toh na keh saka. I really would be happy if Aditya would just start off the show, or at least actually perform and sing. Anyways, with that, the show began.
Aditya said that this week they have received 15 Lakh + votes. That¡¦s a low number, but that seems to be the standard number. Week after week, both SRGMP and II have been receiving the same number of votes¡K.Coincidence????? Who knows and who cares ƒº
First up on stage were the hit men from Vishal and Shekhar's Hit-it squad.
The first person up for results was none other than the ever-sweet, humble-but-brilliant Raja. As expected, he got off safe. Next was Junaid, the sweet and eatable (per some gals) singer. He also was declared safe. Last from the Hit it squad was Harpreet. Unfortunately for him, he became the first thrishanku of the day. Also, Aditya very happily informed Junaid that he has the number one spot in International voting and in the same happy mood informed Raja that he lost on the number one spot in the overall competition.
So, onto the performances. Raja gave his version of Aawarapan from the movie "Jism". This is one of my favorite songs. The main essence of the song is pain. Raja tried hard, but he couldn¡¦t live up to the song. Vishal commented on the fact that, though his performance was not that brilliant, he applauds the fact that Raja is trying to be a complete singer. I agree with him on that count.
Next, Junaid tried Beete Lamhein from the movie "The Train". I thought that he did pretty well. I also felt that his voice was great for the song. His mentors gave the opinion that the feel of the song was great but not the sur. He was advised to work hard on that.
Next up for results, the small and happy family of Ismail Darbar's Yalgaar gharana, Poonam and Amaanat. Poonam was declared safe for the fourth time in a row. I believe that, after last week's heartbreaking story, it will be pretty hard to stop her. Amaanat was in the thrishanku for the first time.
Poonams choice was Hamesha tumko chaaha from the movie "Devdas". I don¡¦t know why, but I don¡¦t like the song and thought that Poonam's performance was average. No doubt the song choice played on my mind. I also thought hat she missed the beat a couple of times. Ismail dedicated this performance to all the mothers out there who have sacrificed everything for their children. He also felt that Poonam's version was better than Kavita Krishnamoorthy's, to which I frankly did not agree. Though who wants to know about my opinion¡K. ƒº
The next family to come on stage was Himesh Reshamiyya's Rock gharana. Without much preamble, all three Joy,Mussarat and Anek were declared safe, for which Himesh thanked the public.
Mussarat gave Tanhaeiyaan from his mentor¡¦s film "Aap ka suroor" . This was good, but nothing to write home about. I feel that at higher scales, no one can touch Mussarat. The problems with his lower notes still remain the same - I haven't seen any improvement on that count. Himesh went on about how this song can be sung only by him and how he asked Mussarat not to sing this one. He felt that Mussarat handled the song pretty well.
Joy performed Jiye to jiye kaise from the movie "Saajan". Quite frankly, it was a dry performance. He did not impress me on any counts.
Anek gave Yeh dil to mila hai from the movie "Dil ne jise apna kahan". After impressing people like heck for the first couple of weeks, Aneek has been on a lean period and by this performance he still remains on one. He was frankly disappointing. He did receive a comment that he was better than Sonu from his mentors, though.
Last but not least, Bappida's Josh gharana comprising of Mauli, Sumedha and Abhijit. Mauli and Sumedha were declared safe while Abhijit became the third thrishanku. Mauli was informed that she has taken the spot of the most votes this week.
Mauli sang Laakad from the movie Omkaara. She started off really well and I thought that she would do well. But alas little did I know that it was a mirage. If one heard her voice alone, one would get the impression that it was an item number. Her screaming continues at some higher scales. She didn¡¦t connect with the song anywhere except at the start. I like her but I really hope that she leaves the show soon. And I really cannot understand why she is being praised so high.
Sumedha gave Chittiye from the movie Heena. Well I thought that she was rushing through the entire song. It was an average performance at the best. Another thing I have noted is that she looks good only with the right touch of make up, which, alas, was not the case today. ļ Here I go digressing again. Well Sumedha had a father and a cousin in the crowd. I was really torn between laughing my guts out or being shocked when the cousin said Aditya was the best. Jeez.
Finally the thrishankus were called on stage and Aditya asked them to give a mind blowing performance.
Amaanat sang Jhoka hawan ka from the movie Dil de chuke sanam. I have one word for this performance. Brilliant.
Harpreet gave Abt ere bin from the movie Aashiqui. He was good throughout the song but I felt that he finished it off superbly.
Abhijeet sang the beautiful Nahin saamne tu from the movie Taal. I felt that it was one good roller coaster ride. He started off exceptionally well, Then fell flat and finished off brilliantly. I have said this once and I say this again. To beat hariharan in his songs is next to impossible.
There was a sweet moment next. A green signal was shown and all three were asked who should this signal be for? Harpreet first said Amaanat, then Abhijeet said Amaanat. Finally Amaanat said it should be for the other two. Aw how sweet. And it was heartening to see Amaanat smile throughout this affair. The green light was indeed for Amaanat and then Harpreet was safe which left Abhijeet to be eliminated. I thought that he left gracefully. He called SRGMP a gurukul and not a competition because he learnt stuff here that would have taken him atleast ten years otherwise.
The end was a sort of anti ¡V climax when Abhijeets brother said that the reason for Abhijits exit was cause of the late introduction like what Ismail Darbar had said. Then we had Ismail arguing on the point that he was right. What the hell??? That was exactly what the guy said. And Ismail got angry at that¡KAnyways¡KTo the guys observations I respectfully disagree. Cause Abhijit was not doing great. Also if that was the case, then why has Aneek not featured in the Bottom four till date?
A couple of observations.
I would like to point out here that though Harpreet is a good singer, he has been in the thrishank for some time now while Joy has evaded that again and again. I feel that though Harpreet is not the title material, he is much much better than Joy.
And Amaanat should not be anywhere near bottom three. That¡¦s outrageous.
I am trying to figure something out. Junaid is the number one international vote getter. Mauli is the number one overall? That would mean Mauli is getting far more votes locally than what she gets international. Considering all things that¡¦s surprising, isn¡¦t it? Or is it just me whos surprised?
On the whole this show was pretty boring. The quality of singing was no where near the usual stuff. I think SRGMP should follow II format. Give the contestants the day off after the results.
Till the next review where contestants will sing choice of songs by their best friends thereby celebrating Freindship day (I think that this will be rigged.. The choices will be made and then passed on to the friends I feel.) CIAO

Good coverage Ajay! I am almost trying to keep my comments on this forum to a minimum...hehe, especially since I accidentally get quoted quite a bit, for the most perplexing reasons! But, thought you did a great job with the review. I find it interesting how this weeks' elimination on SRGMP and Indian Idol, both had Abhi-in their names--guess, Abhi could get you abhi abhi(as in immediately) eliminated
Joy in my opinion is the weakest link of SRGMP. I feel the judges feel likewise, so they keep (especially Ismail Darbar) bringing up Assam while judging him..who knows?

And i really think that there is no need for you to vut down on ur comments, as long as its related to the topic and not to any individual here rima....We are one big family here and we love our family very much.....Feel free to blast the contestants but not the editors....:-)
And weak or not Ismail darbar really shouldnt respond like that......All over the forums there is discussion about regional voting and this is what he does....God forbid....

i agree with Ajay, Rima.
Please do continue posting your comments on this website, I quite enjoy reading your views around the show, the contestants and the judges and ur perspective is often entertaining.
That is not to say the editors r bad. This website would be pretty dead without them :)
Rima, I read your article on the webboard, and i thought it was brilliant! keep it up.
Ok, back to the show...
well its more a comparison on the II contestants and the SRGMP ones. I feel that SRGMP has much better talent, but II is way more vibey.
Its also interesting to see that on both shows, we have contestants singing the same song.
Raja and Emon with Teri Deewani - i felt that Emon was better, more feel and more passion compared to Raja
Raja and Chang with Rut Aa Gaye Re - Raja was better compared to Chang
Ok, thats my 2c worth.... ciao for now

gr8 work ajay...
i dont think choices were made.. as most of the contestants didnt get easy song from their frds... again i hope that public will vote becoz of singing not becoz of the sad stories of contestants... now v already have 2 sad stories one told by poonam n other by raja... though i believe that poonam is much better than raja...
raja's voice wont suit any hero...

hehhe..point noted And of course, I too find the Assam references quite out of line, then again that's what Himesh and Ismail enjoy doing most on this show--making unwanted, uncalled for comments! I must compliment them on their consistency.
Imagine a show with only Ismail, Himesh, and Anu Malik (infamous on Indian Idol)-now that's an [K]ekta Kapoor dream come ktrue!
