Hello, and welcome to this week's Roobaroo with our very special "Main Deewana" desi Michael Jackson--GANESH HEGDE--who I will refer to as Mr. Gyani (as in Mr. Knowledgeable), for reasons that will become apparent soon enough.
The show started with Mini recaping how terribly bummed and emotional the contestants became with Abhi baby's (The Don's) departure last week. Puja (as shown in the video clip) literally cried him a river. In fact, Ms. Chatterjee was so distraught that she needed none other than Anu"I am as mean as Simon Cowell..arrr" Malik to come and console her. Awwww, poor Puja, she and Aby baby must have been tight. Mini noted how even "Super Cop" Prashant Tamang couldn't help but get teary-eyed. Come now, cops can be sensitive too, Ms. Mini-me..hehe, just kidding.
Then Mini asked the contestants if it was high time now that they stopped with all the emotional outbursts and focused only on their performance. In response, Chang noted that if the contestants focused only on the "sur, taal, and lai" (tune, rhythem, and tempo respectively) of their songs, then the "sur, taal, and lai" of their friendship would disappear---Waah Waah Mr. Chang, well said! Here is a true blue Indian at heart, ladies and gentleman!
Mini had to agree, and to cheer up the contestants she got them a suprise gift, a huge box and all. And guess what popped out of that box---main hoon kaun, main hoon kaun, main hoon, main hoon....ABHISHEK!Yeaaa, the contestants looked happy.
Prashant--YOU MY MAN **********************
Abhishek joined Mini in the hot seat for a brief tete-a-tete. When asked which contestant deserved to win the Idol crown and who Abhishek would miss the most if eliminated, our desi Don replied Prashant both times! A suprised Prashant couldn't help but comment that this was the first time anyone found him worthy to win the title! Come now, "bhola bhala" Prashant, you can't be serious. Where do you think all those votes come from...FOR YOU, WITH LOVE?
Enter Gyani O *****************
Moving on, Mini had another suprise planned. It was none other than choreographer/music director/performer/singer---GANESH (Perfect 10) HEGDE--my main man, Gyani O. Well, Gyani came on stage all smiles and danced his way to the hot seat beside Mini.
Emon at this point couldn't help but exclaim that he absolutely loved Ganesh in his white outfit ("Main Deewana") with the letter G on his shirt!
Okay, okay, I am not going to make any comment. It's a personal preference..... (after exercising immense self-control)....NO COMMENTS!
Mehbooba ****************
We are shown a short video clip of Ganesh Hegde's song (I believe he directed it) "Mehbooba" from Ramu ki Sholay. Ganesh noted that it was "mindblowing"--glad you found a fan in yourself Gyani. Any case, we see Urmila gyrating to the remixed (revamped) dance number, while Amitabh (whose name is "Babban" in the film) interjects with random laughs and comments. Okay, can't wait to see this disaster (oops, blockbuster) hit the theaters.
Soooo, Moving on..
Puja and Anky: It's the time to disco! *************************************
Ganesh instigated a dance showdown between "Ms. Performer Supreme" Anky baby and the "Closet Dancing Queen" Puja Chatterjee. After a series of performances from both girls, Gyani waited for the break to decide on a winner.
And Gyani thought the better all rounded performer was....hold your breath...was PUJA CHATTERJEE! Wooooah, that came as a suprise. No offense, to Puja-devi (Sridevi's diehard fan), but her dance moves were a tad bit stiff, in my humble opinion. But in all fairness to Gyani, he did say Puja has an edge over Anki in terms of her voice--been there, heard that.
Puja got another jab at dancing her heart out (now no longer a closet dancer), upon Gyani's request. Gyani of course couldn't help himself and just had to join Puja with his impromptu rap performance!
Okay, I seriously didn't get a word he was saying (probably made it all up anyways), but must say he entertained the crowds and the performers.

Then Mini opened the floor to a Q&A between Gyani and the contestants. Here is a brief transcript (in my words) of the precious advice he imparted to the remaining seven:
Deepali: I have shortness of breath when I perform. Help me Gyani...
Gyani: Exercise! You gotsa work out girl. (okay, so he didn't exactly say that, but something along those lines)
Anky: I sometimes go crazy when I see the crowds..totally OUT OF CONTROL...help please, it's ruining my singing.
Gyani: Don't sit and sing during practice, dance and sing! Terrific advice, Gyani! Now, didn't I tell you he was good
Chang: Me and Amit are tremendous dancers, you know the Mithun Chackrabortees ("I am a disco dancer") of the troupe. We are so good, that we are afraid to put the others to shame--i.e., we need help with our moves!
Gyani: No probs. Chang beta, come here. Welcome to Imaginary Dancing, Step 1. Try to fix a light bulb with your right hand! Good, now try to fix another one below with your left hand. For the final step, put your left/right foot forward and try to extinguish the cigarette bud....VOILA
A happy Chang dances as the crowds cheer on!
Moonwalking the Hegde Way! *********************************
The episode ends with Ganesh dancing to "Main Deewana" joined by the contestants and later the live audience. Ganesh performs a different step with each contestant, and then of course entertains us again with his signature moonwalk!
Man, seriously, one would think that this particular infamous Jackson move would be be obsolete by now--that and the pelvic thrust. It's been after all only twenty or so years! Oh well, at least he rocks it!

So, the curtain falls on another Roobaroo special. As the Vontrap kids would say--So long, farewell, auf Wiedersehen, goodbye.

hehe..thanks guest-you are too kind. In fact, I don't want to fill Deepa's or Sprout's boots. Dude, they are my idols! I am only a chota-mota baccha compared to them...heheheh. That's why I cover Roobaroo, for the baccha parties like moi
I liked this review, I think Rima shows a lot of promise! She adds good color to the show - if we want to see the show we can just rewind the tivo. Lots of background detail like Urmila and the fact that movie is a disaster waiting to be released hehe....and the Sridevi comment did not get it, but am sure there are other people who will appreciate the cattiness...
I give Rima 8.5/10 for this review....next time make it longer!!
I wasn't too thrilled to see the 'mini contest' between Puja and Ankita.
Everybody knows Ankita can perform. We didn't need to see that Puja couldn't dance.
Although, Ganesh said that the better all round performer is Puja...for the lay man on the streets who is musically challenged, Ankita might have looked better in the short performance. That and any sympathy that people might
have for Ankita might help her.
Hope this will not affect Puja's chances.

Yeah, sure hope not! That dancing showdown was really unnecessary. I always suffer from a cringe reaction whenever contestants are put on the spot like that! But all said and done, I am sure people realize Roobaroo is just for kicks and the actual Gala performance should make more of an impacts on voting patterns

Thanks guest! hehhe..yes, how could I forget . Well, leaving that bit was prolly a tad bit intentional on my part. Amit no doubt did a swell job, but I tried to capture the most important moments in the show. But yes, definitely thanks for it pointing it out for the benefit it all

hehhe...true that! By the way, did anyone catch what exactly Babban (as in Amitabh) was saying? Amitabh is too old to be playing Gabbar Singh. He needs rest at his age, instead of playing a weird looking gunda who lusts after Urmila, and cackles randomly like an Disney witch!
I feel so sorry for him and the way the industry keeps abusing him--remember that horrendous outfit he concocted in Jhoom Barabar, I mean what was he supposed to be, a joker??

That JBJ costume will go down as one of the worst costumes in Bollywood! I'm sorry but how do you agree to wear something like that? Bachhan is rather abusing himself. As if the creepy romance wasn't enough in Nishabd, he does encore in Cheeni Kum!

Though enough on Sholay, back to II3! Today was the Galas, and I am seriously worried about tomorrow
Deepali, one of the top contenders for II3 went home today, but man did she go!! What a dignified exit, reminded me of Meenal from last year. I hope this gal goes places because she truly deserves it.
Untouchability of Prashant, Chang, and Amit is rather worrisome. They (especially Prashant) can just read the lyrics and junta will still keep voting for them blindly. It's a shame that Emon has to face that annoying music week after week while that trio is sitting there comfortably.
Either Prashant or Amit will definitely win this show. Better if it is Amit at least the judges will be placated.
I say this for I suspect that Prashant and Amit are getting votes from the same public. Both contestants represent the Far-Eastern states (Prashant is from Darjeeling and Amit is from Shillong, Meghalaya--a state close to Assam).
Chang might be there as the Final 3. But Emon is pretty much a goner by Gala 9 or 10, or perhaps even next week!
I am still in denial! I think this show has become a joke!!!!
Watching the clip on Ankita and what she said about Deepali's comments I knew it had to be Deepali. :(
From the beginning of the gala rounds I was somehow sure that Deepali would make it to top 3. :(
