Pop group Hanson are using their tour of the United States to help African nations in their fight against poverty and AIDS. Hanson are on tour supporting their latest album, "The Walk." The group recently added dates to their tour taking the trek up through early November.
The boys are using a variety of methods to benefit Africa. First of all the proceeds from the download-only single "Great Divide," released last year, have been going to benefit HIVSA to provide AIDS relief in Africa. Now in each city on the tour, the band are sponsoring a one mile walk designed to bring attention to AIDS and poverty in Africa. Additionally TOMS shoes will donate a pair of shoes for every pair sold either on their website or on the tour.
"We want to inspire others to look for simple, tangible and fun ways to make a difference," Taylor Hanson said in a statement. "It is easy to be halted by the great hurdles of poverty and AIDS, but making an impact can begin as simply as giving someone a pair of shoes or buying a song."
Hanson has released their last two albums on their own independent label. They've managed to achieve decent success with this method, proving you don't need a big label behind you to do your artistic thing.
Good for them, trying to use their fame for good things rather than silly feuds or other nonsense.
