The guys of Metallica are afraid their new album won't sell enough, so they decided to use a gimmick to sell more albums. Like Michael Jackson, Aerosmith, and several others before them, Metallica is putting out multicolored albums.
The band's eighth studio album - already rumoured to be a return to Metallica's heavier roots - will come packaged with an orange sleeve as standard (see picture) plus limited edition blue, brown or lemon coloured covers when it's released in June.
Personally, I think it's a rather lame thing to do. I'm sure some will argue that it's cool for the fans to collect all 4, but then you're paying $40-$80 (depending on CD price) for all of them. Why not just put out a larger CD with extra music? Or perhaps include a T-Shirt, DVD, calendar, or some other nice piece of merchandise?
Maybe if you had done some research before opening your mouth you would have realized they are including a bonus DVD with the album (and at not extra charge.)

I didn't know what was included with the CD, and I'm sure Tammy didn't either. She just went by the News Article, and I did as well.
Also, we weren't saying they had to include the things I had listed, just suggested maybe they should. It is good that they are including a Bonus DVD. Many Groups/Bands are doing that. I just purchased Shakira's Special Edition CD (Laundry Service: Washed and Dried) and that came with 3 extra tracks, which were remixes, and a Bonus DVD. This entire thing was the same price as the original CD too.

Lets try and keep it nice I respect everyone's views, opinions, and music pref. You may not like them, however other people might I don't like Avril, however I don't have a problem if other people do. You didn't do anything wrong, just thought your post was a little cruel (I'm not a Metallica fan either :P)
You mean this DVD? I know all about it. It's further proof that they don't have enough faith in their material. The bonus DVD should have been enough of an "extra". The different colors gimmick is to get people to buy 4 albums instead of one, so they can pump up sales. That's a sure sign that they don't believe their material alone will sell the album.

It's the music inside that counts. While I'm not too hot about Metallica's new direction musically, I'll wait until I hear it before I pass judgement.
If anything, the whole symphony debacle is where they truly "jumped the shark". Every band has done it. It's nothing original or creative. And it's usually the first sign that a band is running out of ideas or succumbing to cheesy 80s/90s cock rock cliches.
